View Full Version : How did you stop obsessing over you hair colour?

I'm just wondering if any of you have gone from always colouring your hair and trying to get it just right/getting bored with it/having colour disasters... to growing out your natural colour and eventually loving it?
I REALLY need to stop obsessing over my hair colour and colouring it. I have tried to grow out highlights a few times but always get sick of my natural colour and get them done again/do them myself, leading to more damage, too-light or brassy hair that I try to tone down, then too-dark hair which I try to get out, which leads to more damage.. and the cycle starts again!
I just used a toner to darken my brassy hair and left it in too long and now it's too dark :( So I washed with a clarifying shampoo and am sitting with conditioner on my hair now. Will have to see if the colour is ok when I wash it out. I hope so.
I am so sick of how damaged my hair is and if I knew that I could look ok with short hair and feel ok about having short hair for years, I would just cut it all off and start again. But infortunately for me that is just not an option. I know that I would get extremely depressed and look and feel hideous with short hair. (I know, been there done that!)
I have spent years growing my hair this long and short hair would be a lot worse for me than dealing with the horribly coloured and damaged long hair I have now.
Sometimes I really wish I wasn't so obsessed with my hair, or hair colour. Somehow I think my hair obsession is not going to go away but I hope that I can sucessfully stop colouring my hair and embrace my natural colour (medium/dark ashy blonde).
I am considering covering my hair with a demi or semi colour close to my natural colour but i'm even too scared of doing that because whenever Ive done that in the past its turned out horrible and too dark, even when done professionally. I got lowlights done professionally once and they messed that up badly I ended up with grey hair. Maybe I just need to find a decent colorist who knows what they are doing?
How did you get over your colour obsession? Any tips?

Well first off...you are in good company for hair obsessions (our own hair, that is). Second, I think what helped me was to seek out people here with my hair type and natural color and really appreciate how it looks long (TB+) in its natural state, and to try to stay away from hankering after bright blonde TB+ hair, natural or bleached. This is not my reality any more.
Another thing that is currently stopping me from focusing on my neck-level demarcation line (= UGLY!), is my newfound freedom from length obsession! That is, I can focus on the health of my hemline and not worry about losing length, since I'm essentially biding my time until the demarcation line grows out.
But it is often a long journey to get to natural-haircolor self-acceptance, especially in a society where stripey highlights are everywhere (not that there's anything wrong with that, just not for me), and the TV ads tell us our hair color is bland and humdrum. Good grief.
On the other hand, there is the whole 'ombre hair' craze now that might just help us out!
I really hope nobody uses the term 'dirty blonde' in this thread!

You're right, I will try to find inspiration from long hair in my natural colour and texture. Light blonde is just not realistic for me either, if I want my hair to be in good condition.
I like the 'ombre hair' thing thats going on. I think it looks pretty nice and intersting. I think it looks really pretty when theres only a few inches of bleached hair left at the ends.
I just need to get past the roots being 4 inches long (Its when they are this long that i always cave in and highlight again).. I think when they get longer than this, it starts to look not too bad and it blends in better and doesnt look so obvious?
I'm looking forward to my new journey to virgin hair :)

I'm no long hair inspiration, but I've changed my hair a lot, I don't want it natural (not now, anyway). I chose a middle color, not too light, not too dark. I use a level 7.2 dye over my natural 6.11. :p Blue shampoos help a lot too, if starts getting brassy. Since it's not too light, I haven't noticed damage.

I couldn't stop dyeing my hair funky colors from age 13 to just a year ago. I've kept it blonde and dark brown for a while now. I love it. Now I just need to grow it out. :)

I haven't been able to stop :) I haven't semi dyed it in about 5 months but right now I'm looking into indigo or hendigo. I just don't like my natural hair , it's red(ish) but not red enough to stand on its own and look nice without some help.

Usually if I dye or bleach my hair, I am sick of it's normal color; however, that also means I am so sick of natural-colors. So I am very VERY obsessive about coloring my hair with Manic Panic. It's hard because I'm just strange with the want to keep it rainbow (too expensive, though). And one of my hall mates also has the same issue--she hates her brown hair and used to dye it the deep red she likes. What she did, and I'm thinking off, is buying a wig that's the color and style she wants. Hers is more expensive because it is made of real hair, but I think for a rainbow one there's no way to make a long, realistic, rainbow wig unless I shave my hair and put it in a wig.

Why don't you buy a real hair light blonde wig then dye it yourself with manic panic?
I miss my days of rainbow hair. I loved all the purple and pink manic panic colours. Would like to do it again but wouldn't be allowed with my job :(

Sucess story here:
I put blonde highlights in my hair all through the end of highschool. Then I dyed it a very dark brown (a permanent color), just before I finished Year 12.
Since then, I've just let it grow out. Yes, it did have a demarcation line. And no, brown over blonde didnt fade to a 'natural' colour (too orange for my taste!). But you can see in my albums just how it turned out.
Three years after my last dye job, virgin hair is probably almost down to my shoulders. I haven't seen a demarcation in over a year - even though I know its there, I can't find it.
The best thing for me to get over having roots was to just wear my hair up. After a while, all the dyed hair is in the updo and you can't see it anymore. The whole out of mind, out of sight thing. I'm really glad I decided to let it grow out - my natural color is not brown, but not blonde. Looks great in the sun though!
Good luck! Even with my bleached then dyed ends, I've been able to grow to classic. I haven't had to trim in the last 10 months either, and haven't had velcro ends.
I hope you decide to grow out the color. Its definately worth it! :)

I just eventually got bored of changing my hair colour, I couldn't be bothered to do it anymore and I didn't have any colour ideas I wanted to do so I just left it alone. My natural hair colour got to 5inches long, there wasn't too much difference between my natural and the dye, the dye was a warmer brown whilst my natural is ashy but then I decided I wanted a Rainbow Fringe and dyed it.
Once your natural colour gets to a certain length you just lose the desire to dye it again because it's been so long since you last dyed it that it would be just a waste to cover say 6inch natural growth than to quickly get rid of 2inches natural colour.

Just stop it!! i had the same cycle going on for years! And my hair looked like ****, think about the damage your gonna cause to your hair before coloring it.And how healthy it will be if you are not doing it!I was walkinga round with damaged thin frizzy unmanagable hair for such a long time,i got used to it.Wether my hair was a bit normal again, i decided i could color it again.
I'm lucky i didnt got bald, i used to bleach my hair, then decided to go black, color it 6 times in 2 months black and then decided to go back to blond, the bleach didnt work so well,so i bleached it 7 times in 3 weeks.I did kept the blond for 7 months, after getting back to brown but omg what was i thinking?
And if you really cant let it go, put yourself on a limitation like twice a year.At least you can enjoy healthier hair that way.
Good luck

No real advice here, but I kept my hair in a pixie for years and dyed it black. I really loved the jet black color, but after a while, I was tired of feeling like my hair was short and stupid. I grew it out, and by that point, I didn't even remember my natural color, so I got a surprise change, there! :p
I agree with putting a limit on how many times a year your color. My dyed hair always looked really nice right after, but it was always dull by the time I needed a touch up. If you grow your virgin hair out, it will be so much nicer and softer, and you won't need to use special conditioners just to make it look normal.
Have you looked into natural ways of lightening your hair? I don't know how well they would work on damaged hair, but a lot of people here have had success with honey lightening and lemon rinses. Try the henna and herbal hair care board for ideas. In the mean time, you should probably baby your hair as much as possible. Have you tried the much recommended SMT (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=128) (Snowy's Moisture Treatment)?
Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

My experience is that if you want to dye your hair succesfully, the person choosing the dye (be it yourself or a professional) must understand your natural colours (skin & eyes) either consiously or unconsiously, and then choose a dye that matches. Otherwise the result will look wrong or a little off.
I have light brown hair that's closer to orange brown than grey. You might describe it as tawny. At times I've felt that the colour is not bold enough or bright enough and indeed it isn't if I set artificially coloured hair as the standard. What helped me accept my natural hair colour was understanding my colours through (12 season) colour analysis. This might sound like I was trying to sell something here so I must add I did it at home by reading a lot and test draping with clothes, towels, tablecloths and whatever I could find. The only thing I paid for was a swatch book I ordred online afterwards.
What I learned in the process is that my clothing choises will affect on how my hair looks like. It can make the natural colour to look beautiful or grey and lifeless. I also learned that as a Soft Autumn I happen to fall into a colour category that is really difficult to make look good by dyeing hair. If the colour is too dark or light or cold or warm or bright, it will look artificial or wrong. My only real options are gentle highlighting with a soft, warmish shade or dying my hair close to its natural colour.
Accepting your natural hair colour might mean that you need to change your beauty standards a bit or re-evaluate the way you want to look like. I love rainbow hair too, but on other people; I know I could never pull of that style. Understanding your colours means you also begin to understand what you are not.
If you want to stick with your natural colour it helps to remember that it will always look good on you: it'll never clash with your skin tone or make your eyes look lifeless. If your hair is healthy the colour will look better no matter what it is. Good luck with your growing. :flowers:

I use henna not because I obsess with my hair colour, but because I obsess with its condition. Henna makes my hair stronger and thicker, so all good.

I used to obsess over my color.....always looking for the perfect shade of deep red. However, after a REALLY BAD experience with L'Oreal dye, I ended up having to cut from hip length to just below BSL. That cured me.
I had to think about it. Would I rather have long hair in my natural darkish brown color, or MUCH shorter red hair? Not even a choice, IMO. I have done multiple full-head hennas, and I know the color will gradually go darker and darker, until it is much closer to my natural color but with a hint of red. The full head apps are necessary though, for my hair to reach optimal condition and blend the new dark roots (and grays) in with the varying colors of the rest of my hair. So, like Jojo, I am much more obsessed with condition than color.

Man, I hear you. I used to color my hair every weeks- not necessarily to change the color, but I actually liked the process of coloring. I still do, but I just color my mom's hair instead.
I was at the point where I had bleached my henna to the lightest it would go. I kept trying to do blonde colors (I'm naturally dark) but it was looking really muddy and fake. One day I had the urge to go dark like Kim Kardashian, bought the box, and didn't look back. I colored once more since then as the original dye faded (I bought temp dye) but my hair is so porous it has kept the color since. I haven't dyed for 3 months now and my roots are growing in nicely.
Some people can color and grow their hair long with minimal or no damage. I can't, or at least, not the way they do. If I color once, I color a thousand times, so it's easier to stop coloring altogether- I sound like an addict, but it's true!
Just remember, you're not alone. :flower:

I need to get over it too! It's not that I HATE my natural colour, it's just a little blah to me. I much prefer a deeper richer colour! I would LOVE to keep dying my hair but I have two little problems. First, I'm allergic to conventional hair dye. My scalp, ears, anywhere near the dye breaks out in itchy, sore, weeping sores! I even lost my hair once! So I can only use natural dyes like henna. That brings me to my second problem. I want to have long white hair someday, which wont happen if I keep using henna (that dramatic a line would drive my nuts and I'd chop it all off for sure!) so since it (henna) stopped helping my itchy scalp anyway, I stopped using it several months ago. I wish I could colour it with temporary dyes so when my hair is white enough I can just let it fade out, but alas, see first problem . If only manic panic made a rich dark brown

Haha! I always thought my own colour was a flat, mousy brown no one would want to be caught dead in. But with a year's virgin growth, I can see that my own colour is a lovely, rich medium brown, that is just perfect for me. ;)
Now, I have a new hair colour obsession!!! getting my previously dyed length to match the growing-in colour. Semi-perm and perm dye wash out of previously dyed blonde hair, I found. At least mine did. Lots of experiments with henna and indigo have given me something reasonably close, and I couldn't be more ecstatic! Why I waited until I started going silver to enjoy my own colour, I'll never know. :brickwall:

I have been meaning to try the SMT and will do that soon. I have been oiling my hair heavily a lot and using the best conditioners I can find. Have used lemon and camomile to lighten it slightly in the past so will deifnately try honey if the time comes that my roots annoy me.

Thanks for the great advice. I remember my mum getting this done when I was a kid, she had a color shade book that she used to help pick out clothes and make up. She was a spring. I want to find out what I am now!:) Great to know its possible to do it by yourself.

In high school, I used to bleach my hair but I hated how quick the darker roots appeared, so I stopped and let my own color grow out. It's light enough that I've been able to play around with temporary colors from time to time and then let them fade out - much easier to deal with. There are a lot of colors that I admire, but I enjoy them on other heads without the need to have them on my own head.
Here's an idea for blurring the line of demarcation as your own color grows out. Put a long, thin scarf over your head (like a head-band) and braid the ends into your own hair.

I know exactly how you feel. I hated my natural color. For some reason, I always felt the need to change it. Last year, I dyed my hair four times and bleached it once during the course of two weeks. I made the mistake of using a dye that turned my roots one color and the ends another. That was a horrifying experience. My hair was healthy. After that, it was quite damaged. From that experience, I realized that I should just stick to my natural color. I taught myself to appreciate the color of my hair. If I ever choose to dye again, I will definitely go for henna. For me, it is a matter of choosing the satisfaction of long hair over the instant gratification of a different color.

Oh my.. must have been bad. What happened?
I had been using Hydrience, which is now only sold at 2 or 3 retailers online, and it was gentle enough for my BABY fine hair (and I used pre-oiling to also combat damage). However, last fall, I was DESPERATELY in need of a dye job, and my online retailers were sold out. So, I bought L'oreal instead. I left it on for a minimal time, and the shade that was supposed to be intense dark red turned out almost black.
Then, the breakage started (even pre-dye oiling, which I had been doing for a couple of years) did not help. No amount of microtrims, deep conditioners, protein packs, or oiling helped. I switched to a more gentle dye, doing a permanent dye only every 4-5 months, and demi/semi colors in between. I had it trimmed back to just above waist.....that helped some, and then I made the decision to henna, which is one of the best things I have ever done for my hair. Once I did that, I could tell the difference between the top part and the bottom 3+ inches.....which was the last bit of the part that had the L'oreal dye.....so, I had it cut off. And, even though it is much shorter, it will grow back! And, I will never chemically dye again, unless it is a semi permanent color that washes out.....

Have your tried temporary colors?
I have tried a few but usually don't like them because they turn out too golden even if i use a neutral tone (doesnt go with my skin tone). unfortunately cassia wouldn't go with my skintone either. One of the temporary toners I have been using when left on too long made my hair very golden looking and thats a neutral mid blonde one.. I was trying to darken my hair a shade. Kind of worked but not too happy about the tones of it.
I have 2 temporary toners that look great though, one is violet/blue and the other is champagne. The only thing is they dont darken the hair, just change the tone. I need to find one that is a bit darker but still combats the brassies without turning my hair greyish.. Im thinking of trying the goldwell soft color temp colour mousse. they have lots of shades maybe one would be just what im looking for.

A little over 3 years ago I made the decision to stop coloring my hair. My Dad had just passed away and I was in a funk. However, looking at my roots (more salt than pepper), I knew I couldn't just stop dyeing as the demarcation line would look ridiculous in a professional office. So I went to a salon and got the thinnest possible "highlights" in platinum blonde throughout my head with a little more concentrated in the front.
The growing in process was not so bad - after about a year (my hair was short at the time) it was pretty much all natural.
One of my determining factors was that my sister has grown her hair out and it is beautiful. I figured we're related by DNA and have similar coloring so I will look as good as she does. NOT!!! I loved not having to go through the process of "doing my roots" every 4 weeks. I didn't like the lack of body nor the fact that my hair was not salt & pepper and nice like my sister's! LOL But I just kept it.
One day, one of my best friends called me to tell me that she'd found some photos of me with dark hair and how much younger I looked (in her opinion - and if your best girlfriend can't come right out and say what she thinks, then who can??? LOL) and maybe because I am with people all day long (I'm a Reator) that maybe I should think about going back to my "natural color." I protested and she desisted. :)
Then, about 18 months in, while hanging with a bunch of girlfriends and sipping some wine :beercheer: (they need to make an emoticon w/wine glasses) one of them looked at me from across the room and did a double take - then she said "Girrrrrllll, you HAVE GOT to do something about that hair! I'm gonna be at your house with a box of dye tomorrow morning!" I still laugh when I think about it. I asked if I looked "too old" to hang out with them - I easily have 6 to 10 years on some of them.
Well, a few friends and I went shopping for hair dye 2 days later and we had a community hair dyeing session at her house and now I am back to my "sultry dark brown" hair.
I have to admit that it does make look at least ten years younger. My sister continues to look great.

Ack, I had that same problem! I don't like my hair color that is growing out now that I've stopped coloring - but it's shiny and healthy, so I deal. I recommend keeping your hair in a french braid or crown braid. I find the braiding of the new hair and colored hair makes your hair look pretty as it's growing out.

I'm a healthy hair freak, and i love to give advice and take advice about having healthy hair and things that would help hair. because i did everything else right except for the colouring, so i decided to follow my own advice and no longer colour my hair. its been looking healthier, fuller and i feel so much better. which is a good improvement for two months with out it, and i plan to keep going with this no colouring promise that i made to myself two months ago. :)

I didn't stop obsessing over my hair colour, but I did stop obsessing over dyeing it. Now I am obsessed with making my natural silver and white hair sparkle and glow as much as possible, instead. :)
In my case, I enjoy being silver and white at a relatively young age. To me it looks like tinsel and ice, and I love that look. So maybe it's just about perspective. If you can think of an interesting thing in nature that is the same colour, maybe that would help you to enjoy your natural shade?

By the way, just dyeing hair doesn't mean one is obsessed over hair color. I've been obsessed and now I barely care, I just dye my hair. It's just 10 minutes to apply, not a big deal. And not everyone who dyes have damaged ugly hair. I'm happy with my choice.

That's true. I figured it must have been obsession for me if I was willing to put up with as much hassle as it was to get red-dyed hair when my hair is naturally almost totally pigment-free. It was also an expensive and damaging process, at least for me, so it did feel like I was breaking free from an endless cycle when I eventually stopped.

I have ridiculously colored hair that doesnt show up in pictures. It's like brown and orange and blonde. It's all somehow within the same color family so it blends into a weird fox-like (you know, orange with brown tips, etc) color in some places. I am so over it.
Lately I have been trying to make my hair as shiny shiny shiny as possible. Shiny hair beats everything! I literally go into my bathroom and wiggle my hair around and think exceedingly vain thoughts about how shiny my hair is, forgetting to inspect the bizarre coloring.

Oh, I wasn't adressing anyone in particular. I think once one is happy with the color (natural or not), it's not obssessing anymore, it's really just a feeling. For me it's just another hair/beauty thing I do, just like oiling.
One can also obsess over the condition of the hair, like doing deep treatments everyday, I've done that. :p

I'm still obsessed. With my skin tone the only color that looks nice is red. I have naturally almost-black hair. I've tried accepting it, but I think I look much nicer as a redhead, and I now chemically dye to an auburn-ish color.

I haven't read every single post so I'm mostly replying to the original post to say that YOU ARE MY TWIN!!!!!!!!!!!! :p
I feel EXACTLY the same and have (what sounds like) the EXACT same hair color and exact hair color problems.
I *think* I have come to the conclusion that I will be dyeing my hair indefinitely because it makes me SO much happier in the end. I grew my roots out to about5 " and hated them. i tried. It took a long time to grow 5" and I tried and tried but I hate my natural hair color.
Most recently I got a demi-permanent to see if i wanted to color again. i thought it would be safe (i.e., wash out ) It was not and it doesn't seem to be washing out of my formerly virgin roots...just the processed ends.
Really, the only difference in color is that the dye I used is neutral, not ashy. And nobody else notices but it makes me happy. I may stick with this color indefinitely...I really really like it.
Sorry for such a long reply but I had to say this ;)

What colour is it exactly? Like what level? Im always so scared of demis and semis turning out too dark. Im wondering if I should use a level 9 to get a not too light not too dark blonde.. that is if i decide to go down that route. Im also tempted to just use toner and leave it alone otherwise.

I haven't read every single post so I'm mostly replying to the original post to say that YOU ARE MY TWIN!!!!!!!!!!!! :p
I feel EXACTLY the same and have (what sounds like) the EXACT same hair color and exact hair color problems.
;)
I looked at your album and your hair colour does look really similar to mine. The pics with what looks like the demi color in look great its a really lovely colour and suits you.

I am another haircolour success story, and there is only one reason why: coconut oil.
I have found my favourite shade of blonde, Medium Blonde 8. Over 2 years ago, I started coating my hair and scalp with coconut oil before colouring and before the root touch-ups that I've been doing since.
I have far less breakage, I have no split ends, and I have no intention of ever stopping the dyeing. I am below BSL now.
The coconut oil helps to prevent peroxide damage and protein loss. From my experience, this has been true. My nape circumference went from 2.25 inches to 3 inches now that the hair that's been coloured after using coconut oil has grown past the nape. And that's after I cut thick bangs!
I know I would never be happy with my now-white and dull dark blonde natural hair, and I'm not even going to try to grow it out.
For more info on how and why coconut oil help prevent colour damage, see this thread (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=10495&highlight=peroxide+damage).

I think I was a little obsessed. I would change my hair color every month and now that i'm dye free, I still check for new dyes in the supermarket, and I even watch youtube vids of people coloring their hair sometimes. It's weird, I know :p
I stopped mainly because I was sick of roots, fading and not being able to spend too long in the sun and swim without being worried about my red hair fading (was almost always a shade of red).
I didn't really like my natural color in the beginning. But now that is has highlights and is longer (shoulder) it's so pretty.
If your hair color is anything like mine, I would say, give it some time to grow, then see how you like it. The first couple months mine looked sooo mousy. So dont just give up :)

I stopped when I realised my hair was breaking off all over.... Plus it got so light from repeated bleaching that I just decided to go dark...
I've been dye free for 3 months now- which is the longest I've been without changing my colour, but I'm just curious to know what my natural colour is.... Plus that and when I got to get a trim my stylist tells me how healthy my new growth is :o that's motivation itself to just leave my hair be.

I was very obsessed with coloring my hair and my hair took a TOLL from what I have done to it. I haven't dyed my hair in 6 months or so and if I do dye it again it will be henna only. Right now it's been growing out but I haven't been able to notice a difference between the dyed portion and the virgin, so maybe I like my natural color?
I haven't seen the natural color in a long time so who knows! I always dyed again because my hair was fading and becoming brassy.

I'm currently growing out lowlights. I have about 4 inches, but as my hair is naturally 2 levels away from the black I always colored it, I think I'm the only one who notices the color difference. My gray serves as the shining beacon of truth, however, that shows just how far I am away from my goal of mid thigh length virgin hair. I think it looks strange with my lowlights growing out that my gray is only about to my shoulders in some places & about 4 inches long in others.. my friends tell me that I just look like I'm getting gray hair, not like I'm trying to grow out what I messed up. I basically just heep it back and try to forget I have hair, brush it while I'm watching tv and don't look at it too much... it's gotten me 4"... maybe it can get me 41more haha

I'm asian and grew up with a whole lot of other asian kids with hair almost exactly like mine, some wavier, some thinner, some thicker but always black or dark, dark brown. Everyone wanted blonde hair or at least light brown hair.
Then, I moved to an area where there are hardly any asian people and blonde hair is a dime a dozen. I remember one lady commented on how lovely my black hair was. I have a new appreciation for my hair color now.

Oh my gosh, its like you were describing my EXACT hair process....
I'll grow my hair freshly out and I'll get bored VERY quickly, decide to bleach it, uhhh oh becomes tangled, unshiney, broken... decide to dye it black, fades to a reddish brown, dye it again, cut it short, grow it out again and then do a similar stupid thing the second my hair grows back out! :( You'd think I would learn, but I never do!!!!!

For some of us, we think about what our natural color used to be...and we don't like our "new" natural color
Yes, I'm talking about gray hair.
I'm just not into having long gray hair for myself at this point in my life. I've seen some absolutely beautiful long gray hair. But I'm not ready yet.
Some day, I'd love to have the type of gray hair that looks almost white!

When I was younger, I wanted my medium brown hair to be either a dark brown/black or a very dark auburn. I'd go back and forth - never really content. Then I went blonde for 3 months before trying to dye it back to my natural color -- unfortunately, I used an Ash color, which applied to blonde hair, came out a very ugly olive green/brown. They called me "The Chameleon" at work.
My scalp was so dry from dying so often that if I raised my eyebrows, I could feel my entire scalp move in one piece!!!
I eventually had my color "fixed" at a salon -- and then went thru the highlighting phase to help blend the color with my natural shade. This was costing about $150 every 6 weeks. After a year and a half, of that, I dyed my hair as close to my natural color as possible --- then, only touched up greys every 3 months.
At that point the health of my hair had improved somewhat and I became obsessed with health and shine!!! haha
I found henna and LHC and never used commercial dye since.
Oddly enough, the natural color of my hair darkened as I got older. So with the henna and hennaed greys, I ended up with brown/black color with firey red highlights AND health and shine!
I love it!
