For example, some people wear hats, beanies, scarves, bandannas, different kinds of wraps, and so on. doesn't that make it harder for your scalp to breathe? can it thin your hair out? i have a cute hat but i rarely wear it. I'm just wondering because its winter and i want to protect my hair from the harsh cold. :)

What I read somewhere is that the constant rubbing on your hair from the hat can affect it. They said it’s like the hairs on our legs that are always covered with our shorts, the hairs that are always covered are shorter then the hair that aren’t always covered from the constant rubbing. I always were hats when out side which is every day to prevent my scalp from getting burnt but I take it off when in side.

I love hats and wear them for a variety of reasons. I see no evidence whatsoever that they do any harm. I think the full blast of sun or cold weather would be worse.

I love hats and as long as they keep me from freezing to death thats all what matters! My hair actually goes through a growth spurt in winter, I often wonder if this is because my heads nice and warm!

They say silk lined hats are better for your hair because the hair can just glide along and the silk prevents frizz. Same reason I and others use a silk pillowcase or slumber cap. There are some really cute silk-lined hats here ;) (http://www.hatsome.com/) http://www.hatsome.com/.

cool, thanks you guys, i think i will just wear the hat or cover my hair when I'm outside. which isn't too often in the winter. so i think I'll be alright.

When I wear scarves, my hair gets very tangled. I make sure to braid first and try to pin down the more errant wisps, but it is one reason I don't cover my hair more often. Anything slick enough to not muss my hair would slide right off.

Never saw a negative effect besides helmet hair. :p

I usually wrap a scarf around my head when my hair's damp so it dries frizz-free and less curly.

My hair is generally in MUCH better condition if I keep it covered most of the time.
