Hey all, I was just wondering if you could share your favorite YouTube long hair style gurus, thanks in advance. :D

There are a ton of really good ones out there, you could spend hours watching them all.
My favourite is probably torrinpaige - she explains things well (she taught me to do 4 strand braids :)). Here's the link to her channel http://www.youtube.com/user/torrinpaige
And diesushibitch has some really good videos too. http://www.youtube.com/user/DieSushiBitch

I am very fond of Loepsie's (http://www.youtube.com/user/loepsie?blend=2&ob=4) YouTube channel. She has some very cute style ideas and she does a good job of explaining what she is doing which makes learning new hairstyle very easy for me.

You can also check out Cute Girls Hairstyles (http://www.youtube.com/user/CuteGirlsHairstyles?blend=2&ob=1) on YT. :) All of the styles that I have seen are really easy to do.

Similar to the Cute Girls Hairstyles is http://www.youtube.com/user/hair4myprincess - but on both of those I'd be careful... a lot of the styles seem very damaging.

I think all the rest of mine are covered, and I see some new ones! I guess I know how I'll be spending the rest of my weekend!

And I can't stress enough how wonderful TorrinPaige's videos are. She's the first place I ever just sat down and watched every vid posted... I still do that occasionally, just to see.

Excellent thread btw!

THANK YOU for this thread! It's so hard to find long hair YouTube videos that cater to the LHC audience, if you know what I mean. :)

I don't have any that weren't mentioned, but I also love Torrin Paige. Her videos are easy to follow and she has such a great personality. Beware of her videos if you're prone to hair jealousy, though. ;)

My hair is shorter, so a lot of longhair styles are still impossible.

I like Vintageous (http://www.youtube.com/user/oakoscar100?feature=watch) and A Vintage Vanity (http://www.youtube.com/user/KoontzFan2?feature=watch).

They both show lots of cute, retro hairstyles that work with SL to BSL layered hair. Sometimes they use heat--I don't--, but often it's just pincurl sets. They're doable and wearable on your own head, even if they don't come out perfect.

She has amazingly thick hair, and although most of her video's are in German, (some are in English) you can follow along easily just by viewing what she's doing. amazingly talented.

Torrins good friend Siobhan has some crazy mad skills when it comes to hair and hair totorials.

I also started this whole thing through Coffee&Makeup! I miss her videos, she has such a great attitude about things.

I know waht you mean about Isabella Demarko. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure in person she's a perfectly lovely girl, but I think some of the comments are getting under her skin and you can feel her frustration about the comments/problems with her hair. Hopefully she'll be able to go back to ignoring them, I really like the approach of looking at things scientifically.

My favorite hair youtuber is Silvousplaits. She hasn't updated in forever and it's 99% braids, but she does a wonderful job explaining how to braid hair in an understandable way, and she actually does it on her own head. She has absolutely gorgeous hair too.

Agreed. She's annoyed by the comments and says she knows all of the information they're telling her and yet doesn't stick to it. She says she babies her hair, does everything right, knows it's not straight and accepts it, but then in the same breath says she's straightening her hair, washing fairly frequently. Generally disregarding what is known and proven to be true about hair. Her theory about soy is definitely interesting but I think part of the issue is that she puts so much stock into everything.

Actually, I did some digging, and the part which she got the science behind soy was from a site that sells products for hair, not made from soy. Then I started digging some more researches about hair loss/growth with soy protein and found only that soy has positive effects on hair and overall health.
These youtubers and their "researchers" should be taken with a grain of salt :)

I have a few favorites from YT that have already been mentioned, but i thought I'd link them:

I really enjoy the historical hair tutorials and braids from Silvousplaits. It's really cool to see how people actually wore their hair throughout history. https://www.youtube.com/user/silvousplaits

If you want good natural haircare advice, then OrganicallyAnna is great. She also does seasonal growth challenges that you can follow along with if it's your thing. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmIhoqOnptBsjQGS3vCPYbA

Holistichabits has beautiful thick hair and a pretty aesthetic to go along with hair tutorials and advice, I like to watch her videos to relax because they're so calming. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCX7hbrZOkAQX7ugsX-5M0rQ

Coffee&makeup is always a good standby since she has such a sweet personality and makes good content. She hasn't posted in over a year, but her old videos are totally worth watching. https://www.youtube.com/user/makeupandcoffee/featured

I can't beleive no one's mentioned this one, but Steph Arizona has tons of great natural haircare DIYs. She also doesn't post anymore though. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMii3NQGbl0-IHgVY1cNwyg

Lastly, Jackie Wyers is one of those more mainstream youtubers who does really cool videos copying the makeup and hair looks from characters and people in pop culture. Some of the styles definitely look like they could be damaging to hair though (heat tools and backcombing/teasing are prevalent), so try them at your own risk! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCF8jAZoTZBReXwoj8vu9HWA

Demarko makes me so sad. I want to help her but I'd just be contributing to the crazy spam she receives daily. It seems to me that most of her problems before she got the keratin straightening were caused by heat and mechanical damaged that she was getting at a higher rate than her microtrims could keep up with. Maybe I'm wrong but I don't recall her ever saying she did protective styles other than to sleep and around the house when she put her hair in a scarf but held it with just bobby pins. This could have all been avoided if she just didn't wear her hair down whenever she went out at such long lengths. Every time I wear mine down in a windy day I notice new breakage :( can't imagine how bad it would be if I had previous heavy damage and kept wearing it down every time I walk out the door. Plus she mentioned she likes going out and I know from friends who studied in England how crazy the night life can get around there

Bri-Chan
September 20th, 2020, 08:37 AM
Lucy I don't think wearing hair down could be the cause of her situation. A lot of people wear their hair down and grow it without troubles, I see it everyday where I live. And I think that at this point all her damage is gone.

I think the results speak for themselves. If I had started my journey with the damage she had I'd go hard on the protective styles and I think many would advise me to here.

As for her current struggle with frizz I think she wants to have the cake and eat it too. My hair has just as much frizz when it's under the type of weather. But she wants to look like she has heat styled and used silicons without doing neither when clearly her texture tends to poof like mine. At least in her last video she said she'd give silicons a try.

Edit: I don't know why you mentioned "damage is gone" since I said before the keratin treatment. I do agree that it's looking way better now

I think her problem is that she's just never satisfied with her hair. From what I can see she has gorgeous hair but in her eyes something is wrong with it when it's not perfect. Yes, previously her hair was a mess but nowadays I think it looks fine and she just doesn't see it.

Also, Sarah Ingle (https://www.youtube.com/c/SarahIngleOfficial/videos), who's been making videos about the actual science of hair, based off the book Chemical and Physical Behavior of Human Hair, 5th edition, by Clarence R. Robbins. (For example: "dry hair" is not a thing! Damaged or under-conditioned hair is a thing, but it doesn't correlate to there being less water in your hair.)

I strongly dislike Sarah Ingle. I feel like she has a nasty attitude and she mocks people for using DIYs without considering that it's the best option for people with allergies to common ingredients.

Then again I like holistichabits and plenty of people dislike her so what do I know?

The Pretty Shepard is much more in keeping with what's popular among the people on this forum, whereas Sarah Ingles has a more mainstream approach to hair than most of us do. She's very different than me, so it's not surprising that I don't particularly like her demeanor either. But as far as I'm aware, she's the only person doing this kind of science-based hair information, which I find super interesting. I don't have to be personally fond of someone to respect or appreciate their work.

I can understand that. Have you checked out the Science-y Hair Blog (http://science-yhairblog.blogspot.com/)? If you like the idea of someone taking a scientific approach that blog has a wealth of information.

You should try naturallyantonia! She tests PH levels of different hair products and also relates it to climate conditions in some of her videos. I really like her.

I'm glad someone else feels this way. I was worried I was being a party pooper.. There is just something off about how she presents herself. It seems disingenuous.

Ironically, I find Naturally Antonia personally grating, for reasons I struggle to quite put my finger. I wouldn't accuse her of being objectively arrogant or pompous, but she gets on my nerves that way.

I had no idea this channel even existed. I'm a bit on the fence about it.

That's fair, everyone has things that bother them most. I just really like DIY and her video of testing the PH levels. I think they're interesting. I think it was you that mentioned Pretty Shepperd, thank you!! I checked her out last night and she's pretty interesting. I love the Hungarian folklore video

She stopped? I thought the channel was still up? I'm still subbed, that much I know. :) That's so sad, though! :( Isn't she on the forum as well. I thought so! :)

She left her channel up but has decided not to make more videos. I think she said it in a comment on one of the more recent videos, but I can’t remember.

@lapushka She does/did! I'm not sure if she still does, but it is how I first found LHC.

Oh that's nice! :) I would love if she did a small update. But if she feels better not doing more videos, then that's that. :)

Same. I wrote her here on PhC and she replied. But I don’t know how much she visits the forum these days. I guess since she is literally famous in hair circles she is more of a lurker now than active :( It’s a shame tho, I found her too late, she already stopped making videos. I rewatch her old ones... There is literally no replacement for that girl. So honest and down to earth... Every other I checked I was massively disappointed :( if they have naturally or organically in their name I just skip.

I really like coffeeandmakeup since my hair is similar to hers. Her approach to growing hair and caring for it was right up my alley. I wonder what her hair is like now! However she has to do what makes her happy!

Aw yeah, I also loved coffeeandmakeup's channel. She had a lot of cool tips/info and her hair looked like silk :). As for other hair-related channels, I really like Jackie Wyers on youtube. She recreates looks from film, tv, or different time periods. They're really fun to watch and she has nice hair, despite heat styling. Edit: (I guess her hair isn't very long in longhaircommunity standards though lol). I also found this channel called NicLoves Xo and she has GORGEOUS hair, at about the length that my hair currently is. Her channel isn't entirely focused on hair though. And lastly, OrganicallyAnna, has chill vibes.

That's a fair thought. I've tried watching naturallyantonia and organicallyanna, but they aren't as fun as Brit. It stinks that she is a lurker, but I really hope she is happy.

No one resonates with me quite like coffeeandmakeup did! I remember watching her videos when I first had my hair cut and thinking "'lt'll take YEARS to get hair that long, I'll never get there." Lo and behold my hair isn't quite that long (yet lol) but it is long now.

Ooh yes! Her videos are so informative and interesting. I first found her channel through an ancient Roman style and I remember thinking woah so that's how they made those complex styles. Women would sometimes sew their braids up with twine/thread.

Anyone know Scarlettohair (Molly as her real name) on tiktok? She's a natural redhead with insanely thick mane. I got a tiktok account solely for her and she recently started a YouTube channel. She's pretty reasonable with her hair tips (that her hair is genetically nice and thick) and simple haircare routine. She tests heat and heatless styling method and I follow her for that. It's very rare to see heat tools used on super long hair. (I think her hair pass classic now)

And sorry for double posting, but since I'm new I can't edit my post yet.

If anyone interested in 'mainstream' hair youtuber, I also like Alex Gaboury: https://youtube.com/c/AlexGaboury for her healthy looking bleach blonde hair.

And Mei Yan: https://youtube.com/c/MeiYan for bleached colorful pastel hair (thick Asian hair too) and cutesy Japanese-style/anime inspired look.

We don't seem to have a dedicated hair video tutorial thread, but I think this is the best place in lieu of starting a new thread which I would do, but I have no idea if I'm just being dumb and there is in fact a ubiquitous and long standing video tutorial thread which I cannot find. Perhaps I'll post it in my personally length relevant thread to see if anyone else around my length is interested or can recreate this lol. SO! I bring you these tiktoks that I am DESPERATE to see recreated and thinking about trying myself. I was thinking of getting a blow out for my birthday in October, but if this gives similar results (and is cheap lol!) then I think it would be perfect, just a bit of hair spray to keep it all in place. I could count on one hand the number of times my hair has been heat styled including any kind of blow drying on many less fingers than I have on one hand since I shaved it almost FIVE years ago now, that's crazy to say! So I'm honestly just not that keen on trying them out anymore, I feel like I have turned into a grumpy old hair curmudgeon and I don't like to experiment as much anymore. So!

Bernadette Banner posted this within the last week - Victorian hair care. She concocts some potions for dye, curling solution and a sort of hair spray. It is all interesting! But she also shows how very long her hair is and you see a short snippet of her trimming her hair.

And this video makes clear exactly how much I like this barber. He explains how important long hair is for someone with his trim:
