View Full Version : Looking for Gentle-Scented Conditioners...

Hello, everyone! ^ ^

So I've been learning a lot so far on this forum about
what products to use for my hair, and I've gotten
already a couple of suggestions towards CO-washing!

That's great, and all... and I've already tried it, and
my scalp and hair respond wonderfully...
but I have to be very careful about the scents I'm
using.

I tried using Vive Pro Hydra Gloss conditioner tonight because
I wanted to see how my hair would react to 'cones.
I would keep using this conditioner if the smell wasn't
so strong that it gives me a headache! It's way too
strong for my sensitive nose. I can't use it, so I'm gonna
have to get rid of it. </3

So here's my question: What are some good priced
conditioners out there that are very lightly scented
and are easy to get a hold of? I have a Wal-Mart,
Walgreens, and Fred Meyer close by if that helps to
narrow the search down.

I'm using Suave Rosemary Mint conditioner right now,
and I think that's what I'm going to stick to.
I would do a CWC-wash to start out before making changes,
but interesting enough... I only have conditioner. lol
The Suave conditioner is a good smell, and I can handle it
just fine. It's just that my hair does get frizzy and dry
easily. I can use oil, but perhaps there is another conditioner
out there, Candie-friendly (that's me!), that can give my
hair more moisture and is easy on the nostrils.

Thanks!

Hello!

I certainly sympathize with you regarding scents in hair products! My nose is extremely sensitive too and most of the shampoos/conditioners, make me want to retch.

However, after reading the reviews section about the various conditioners available, I decided to see what the Tresemme NATURALS Silicone Free Nourishing Moisture Conditioner smelled like.

I liked it -- very light and not too overpowering. I bought a bottle but haven't used it yet as I still have a bit of my george michael conditioner to use up.

You might like to go to the "reviews" section and check out various reports on shampoos and other conditioners to see what others are recommending.

Good luck!

Ah, yeah, thanks. I'll do that. :D
And I haven't used Tresemme in a long time,
but I'm willing to give it a go in the future.
For now, I like my Suave Conditioner;
I just wanted to have a list of other ones
for when I have to by a new bottle, you know?
Thanks again. ♥

My hair is much finer than you, but I also am sensitive to smell. Giovanni Triple Tea Tree Conditioner has a fresh, minty, green smell that doesn't stay in your hair. It's very lovely, and I hate perfumes.

Yeah. Giovanni does have good scents. I keep forgetting
about that brand, but you're right. I'll definitely keep
that one in mind. I really like minty, green smells.
I'm not into perfume, heavy floral, or even melon/berry scents.
They will literally make me nauseous; and it's not that they
smell bad to me. It's just that they're too strong.

Some conditioners that come to mind are V05's Tea Therapy Conditioners.

The lightest scented one to my nose is the Calming Chamomile:

2nd would be the Vanilla Mint: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Vo5-Tea-Therapy-Vanilla-Mint-Tea-Conditioner-15-fl-oz/12166274

For a "green" scent, I think Biolage Conditioning Balm smells pretty "green" in a light, grassy sort of way: http://www.walgreens.com/store/c/matrix-biolage-hydratherapie-conditioning-balm/ID=prod923672-product It's a little more expensive, but many on here like it so it may work for you too. The scent doesn't seem to linger much in my own hair. Not sure how it is on others? And the link I gave was to the larger tub. You can usually find the smaller tube at drugstores as well as Walgreens & Walmart for 1/2 that price.

Hope that helps. :flower:

Editing to add: If the Vo5 conditioners are too light for you and you need more moisture, you could always use them in an SMT: http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=128&highlight=snowy by adding honey & aloe vera gel(and/or oil if your hair likes it).

I second virgo75 on the almost non scent of biolage balm.
It is very lightly scented and almost none when hair dries.

I believe Fekkai makes a budget version of Brilliant Glossing (IIRC, the budget version is just called "Fekkai Glossing" and they have it at Target, someone told me?), which has got the most light, airy fragrance I have ever smelled in a hair product. It's divine, very fresh and verdant, but in a non-headachy way. And little piggies have very sensitive noses! (^(oo)^)

Yay! Thanks, everyone! ^ ^
I appreciate all the suggestions.
And I've been curious about SMT;
I'm sure to try it in the near future. -nods-

Another recommendation for the Biolage.

I have scent sensitivity as well. The best ones I have used so far are house brands, and no-name type brands. I buy one from my grocery store that is honey scented. I see you are in the states, so you won't have the same options as me. But I would recommend trying the cheap store brands.
