Before and After LHC

If there is a thread already like this, please point me to it. If not, I would like to see some shots of people's hair quality before they joined the site and a more recent shot. Not really aimed at length here just overall condition of the hair.

I was only thinking about it because I joined beginning of this year sometime (I didn't post a lot, but was lurking.) And even though I have been bad since (I actually had a really good streak and my hair condition improved so immensely that I decided to dye it AND put a relaxer in it :brickwall )

Now I am REALLY off the stuff! I have noticed an improvement in the condition of my hair since babying it once again. Wasn't really sure if I could recover from the relaxer damage and I'm still dealing with it, it's a bout 4-5 inches of hair that I can tell a difference with. Anyway here are my "before" and "after" pictures. It's a 6 month difference.

Oh, I think I can give a good example here about how taking good care of your hair can improve quality over time ;)

(I think this was november 2005. I was "soft"-bleaching to get the red out of my hair. I was already light-haired, but I hated the red undertones. Waves here are braidwaves)

Thank you for all the compliments. :o I'm not really sure I have any secrets - I just started doing what I read other curlies were doing. Using a lot more conditioner than I used to, oiled daily, kept it in buns or braids, and did some S&D. No actual trims, since I'm very lazy and wasn't sure I could get Feye's self-trim method right. xD (And salons always wanted to give me layers, layers, and more layers. Did we mention we think you need layers? :rolleyes:) So I'm guessing it was just letting my hair do what it wanted that got me so far.

Definitely a change! Though 3 years is a very long time for such little length improvement. But I had to grow out my sharp V length hemline as well, so that definitely cost me a lot of length...

Bad lighting, yeah, but there was dryness, frizz and damage from washing and blowdrying every day. The day after that picture was taken I chopped it to shoulder length. Almost two years and quite a few trims later, about six months after discovering LHC:

i completely feel ya on the multiple chemical processes & making your hair dry & just gross. that's what i did. when i was younger i used to dye it blonde one month, then black, then light brown...it was insane! so i completely feel your pain. mine was thin & just dry overall as well but i had no idea.

basically here are pics of my hair when i was in high school. it wasn't bad [i just didnt want to spam with pics], but then at times it was horrible. i do remember i could do a lot more to it back then though & be forgiven. I can't anymore. I also used to straighten my bangs....wet -let the stabbing commence- HORRIBLE! i was so dumb :confused:

^ you can tell it was getting dry & thin. the ends = frazzled

then it was blonde, & it was still really dry, lackluster.

now a few years later. this was last summer, almost 2 years ago. this is what destroyed my hair & why i joined. i had long hair, i think medium-light brown, which i had heavily highlighted. it was fine, still in good shape. then, like a moron, i went home & a few days later highlighted it MORE because i was so impatient. dumb dumb dumb! it turned out orange, yellow, all of these horrible colors, so i had to go back to the salon & get it fixed. the lady, still my stylist today, was so sweet & thought that it was her fault for not going light enough, so she hardly charged me at all. of course it was my fault which i told her a million times, but i really respect how she goes above & beyond for me & all of the deep condition treatments she still gives me to this day :) anyway, here is that pic:

you can tell how thin it was, even though i had it texturized, & how the baby hairs are sticking up everywhere. the only reason it doesn't look beyond repair is because this was the day she styled it & did everything. had it not been for that it would look a hot mess.

this was a few months later, after i started to do the tips i read on here. oiling, letting it air dry, try not to straighten as often [which is my uber bad habit], CO washing, everything.

then another year later, had it just lowlighted a bit, trying to match a bit of my natural color, & recently i've had highlights:

my hair is overall getting sooo much better. yes it's still poofy, but i'm still growing out damage & dryness. the texture is overall so much better & softer, & even if its slightly poofy it is nothing like it used to be. sometimes it dries really flat :) growth has been a bit of an issue, & i had to trim it back almost to what i started with [in the 2nd to last pic], because of dryness, but i tell people i'd rather have it be short & healthy than a little longer & horrible looking. so i'm just hoping it'll start growing more soon ;)

sorry if its kind of pic heavy & i always try to make them smaller, but then when i post they get bigger xD go figure. but anyway, yea, that's my hair journey :)

Here's my hair on the day I joined last December... it's hard to see in the picture for some reason but I had some blonde highlights in there somewhere.

Here it is a year later ... longer, wavier, highlights covered up with henna & indigo and then I stopped coloring.

Here's right before I joined LHC in March 2010, after removing black hair dye with color removers. This was the last time I have used chemicals on my hair. These pictures were taken on my trip to Florida, after the trip my hair lightened so much!
