View Full Version : Holiday Hair?

Hi guys,
I'm wondering what you all do with your hair for the holidays and whether you do something special, with heat, hair cuts, updos, treaments, or what. Usually there are lots of pictures taken for the holidays, so IMO it's nerve wracking to figure out what to do with hair, especially when you're in some kind of in-between phase of growing out layers/dye etc. Any examples? Pictures?

I heat styled it with a curling iron(in my hair album and profile pic) for my DBF's job Christmas party. DBF really like it and wants me to curl it again on the 25th, but it's damaging..

Hair tinsel seems to be popular right now and quite festive for the holidays ^__^

This past week i have been doing braid updo's with ribbons and it looks very cool. i got this very cool red bumpy fabric ribbon at the fabric store....braid it into my 2 heidi braids and bring them up on top of my head. When i reach my 25th post i will post a pic. it looks so cute!

I wore my hair in a french herringbone braid with the end tucked under for my company holiday party, and in a chignon for DH's company party. I ended up having to give a herringbone braid demonstration on the hair of one of the ladies I work with because all the girls from my office just *had* to know how in the world I had accomplished this! :p For Christmas (going to church and family parties) I'll curl my hair with soft rollers the night before, I wear my hair up most days so it seems more special to curl it and wear it down. (DH doesn't even bat an eyelash anymore when I come to bed with a head full of curlers) ;)

I went to my Department's Holiday Party a couple weeks ago, and did my hair up following this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E6jEHuyKAzg&feature=related) minus the curling iron (don't own one) and hair band. Just 1.5h, 100 bobby pins and hairspray for the flyaways . And got complimented a lot, with many people being shocked that I managed it on myself. The following day was my lab's Christmas party, and since taking that style down at 4am resulted in beautiful pincurls, I just slid on a headband to hide the not really well curled front bit and headed out.

For my family stuff coming up, I'll probably just leave my hair down, or lace braid across the front if I'm feeling fancy.

I bought a gorgeous austrian crystal and pearl headband. I plan to do a small braid like hair band and use the hairband over that so I don't get any headaches, though it's pretty comfy. :)

Beautiful, bouncy curls with a pretty headband or ribbons/bows.

I've had good results with sock curls so I just use that method overnight the night before any event.

French braids can look nice too if you can get them in neatly. Unfortunately I'm growing out some stubborn layers (shortest just hits my chin/ears) and it kind of ruins any sort of braiding I want to do for the moment.

For work xmas party I did a french twist. For the xmas party where I volunteer I'll be wearing a pin curl bun (thank you Rapunzel's resource). Then tomorrow I'll do some sort of half-up to show off my curls (birthday dinner). Xmas day I'll probably do a ribbon braided chinese bun.

For the past couple of years I've been wearing it taped with jingle bells and a big bow so it looks like a wreath when I go out shopping. I get a lot of compliments...the most recent from a very polite teenaged boy (I was kind of shocked as most 14 year old boys don't really pay attention to that kind of thing, so I'm assuming that his mama raised him right...lol) and rather like hearing the bells when I shake my head. But I'm a dork like that. For parties I soft set it because I think it's fancy enough and that's when it looks it's best. Anywhoodle, pictures:

Beautiful style Torrin :thud: - I love the red and green together on your hair colour and I also like bells!

This is what I did last year - I haven't had time to think about this year.

It is just a rope braid made with a shiny green sash and my hair. My hair is fine so this helped me add a bit of thickness to make the style bolder.

I am just going to use some styling gel to try to get nice curls! I usually don't like to use too many products on my hair.

Oh, and I might make some flower bobby pins to add to that!

Milui Elenath, now I want a shiny green sash! That's gorgeous. Isn't it amazing what a little bit of fabric or ribbon can do? I twist and braid and pin and do all of this elaborate crap with my hair, but add a pretty ribbon to a regular old English braid and people oooh and awe like I invented sliced bread or something. LOL. Of course, I just did the same thing over your shiny green sash, so there ya have it. :) Perhaps it best to keep it simple and add some color then, eh?

For my work party I sported some pin curls, which looked really volume-y and retro on short hair (also very different from the whole APL-bleached-straightened look people my age generally have). For Christmas at my boyfriend's I'll actually flat-iron my hair as I haven't done it in a while and really just want to blend in with the crowd - no fancy dos, but a red bow for the holiday spirit. For Christmas at my parent's I haven't decided yet but I'll try to find a way of naturally styling my hair as it dries and keep it that way.

Hmm, you've just given me an idea. I saw a long, red, sparkly scarf on sale for $5 the other day... should I get it for my hair?

I found this strand of fake winter leaves at Jo-Anns. My idea is since my hair is really short, I'm going to braid--maybe French way--with the strand. I might move it into a bun, but my hair may not be long enough.

Piggy will be sporting some hair tinsel, as Juneii mentioned (^(oo)^)

I haven't decided what colour I want to wear . . . the red seems most holidayish, but the purple/blue stands out more . . . :ponder:

Love the festive updos :D

For Christmas eve there will just be me & my parents and my little brother (and the dog!) soo I don't really feel the pressure to look amazing. ;) I will probably wear loose, or a half-up, I think. Maybe I'll try to achieve some loose pin curls as well, just to practice...

New year's eve we're hosting a party (yay!) and I don't know what to do then. I'm thinking of combing all my hair backwards for a tighter look, and do a big fat high sock bun! Or maybe I'll do a French twist, but I'm not sure yet.

Hi there!

Like you said, in the holidays people takes a lot of photos so I always want to look good and surprise my friends. Usually I make a French braid, so when I have holidays and I go out somewhere I let my hair down, but there are some situations when I can't do it, so I wear my hair like this:

I wanted to do something fancy with my hair for my work's party this past Saturday, but by the time I got dressed and put my make-up on I wasn't in the mood to fuss with it (and was starting to get behind schedule). I ended up spraying it with some coney heat protectant, blowdried it straight, and put it up in a high, sleek ponytail. It looked great with the retro dress I wore.

Okay,

Here are the styles I had during Christmas. I curled my hair by braiding it wet and letting it dry that way for 24 hours.

Then I also experimented at putting it up in a simple style:

I haven't ever taken holiday hair into consideration before now and I didn't do anything at all this year. I am going out Thursday night of this week, so maybe I'll try to figure something out before then. Thanks for the ideas, guys!

Pretty hair Ivy! :)
I flat ironed mine (gasp) for the holiday. It's 'tradition' lol. And part of the new "I don't care" attitude I've adopted.

Here's what I did: I twisted a section in the back up into a french twist, then looped and pinned my curls all around it. It took only a couple of minutes. It really showed off my silvers too!
