Alright, my hair is schizo. How do you type schizo hair? I labeled myself as a 2b/2c not having dealt with my natural texture in years, and now I'm not so sure. What do you think here?

Here are some pics:

Hair is about 90 percent dry here. I gently shook out and scrunched my hair when I got out of the shower, but didn't comb.

Then, I fingercombed. Suddenly my hair finished drying rapidly. I was surprised to still see elongated spirals. But from the front, it's merely wavy.

Then, I brushed (gently). Now it's nearly straight (albeit really poofy) except for the last couple inches!

Then I rewet my head and put my hair in a wrap (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=60917) for the night. Because I have too much to worry about on top of dealing with schizo hair. :p

So what do I call this? Thanks for your expert opinions! :)

My hair is like yours; when it's still slightly damp or freshly washed and uncombed it's pretty spirally (I have heard these called "first day curls"). It straightens out if I comb/brush it, and always looks like that by the second day regardless. I think I listed myself as a 2a, even though it qualifies as 2b on day one.

I think 2b/c is about right for you.

I think you're about 3a. Those are definitely curls.

I also think 3a.

Definitely a 3, too many spirals for anything else. Doesn't look odd or strange to me at all, it's very pretty!

Another vote for 3a. :)

I'd say 2c, even though I can't see a single spiral on any of the pictures.

Those are curls, so I'd say 3a. If the slight scrunching made it curlier than normal, you might be a 2c.

Your curls look a lot like mine, I would say 3a. But here is a handy hair typing tool for curlies:

Definitely in the 3 range. I'd give it a 3a.

It's so beautiful, too! I don't think it's poofy at all -- it looks really nice, both in pictures 2 and 3. :flower:

Thank you all very much for your input and kind words!:flower:

jesis, I've actually seen that link before and found it more confusing than anything else. For example, it describes 2c as "thick and coarse" - my hair is babyfine and easily straightened (like how that link describes 2a and 3a). I'm not as curly as some of the celebrity samples, but according to that link I can't be a blend of 2c and 3a.

I like it much better how we type the hair here - the texture designation being purely by appearance and the other characteristics described by the other qualifiers. In that case, I'm thinking I am probably a 2c-3a. That's kind of exciting, actually!:cheese:

skaempfer, what you talk about is exactly why I wasn't sure what to call my hair. Granted, this is the first time I've really seen my natural texture dry in about 10 years, and I only left it that way for a couple hours. Lord only knows what would have happened if I had slept that way!shudder: That's why I've been straightening it forever. Put in product for straight hair, go to bed with straight hair, wake up with straight hair. Ignore hair until next wash four days later.

With my hair curly, it was more like "Put in product for curly hair. Enjoy curls for a day. Sleep on curls. Wake up with stringhead. Spritz hair to revive curls. Become stringhead in a matter of hours. Spritz curls. Stringhead... ad nauseam. The only solution for me was to wash every day, and I've never liked doing that... I'm too lazy. :p

Thanks very much for your help!:)
