Okay, ladies and gentlemen, I feel we need this now. Well, I am not sure about gentlemen though but ladies most certainly do need this thread. TV show Gossip Girl may not be the best show on tv (ahem) but it features a high class character named Lily van der Woodsen whose hairstyles (especially recently) are worth LHC members' admiration.
Check some here:

two (http://www.tvfanatic.com/gallery/dancing-to-robyn/)

four (http://www.imdb.com/media/rm1392738560/tt0397442)
five (http://www.tvfanatic.com/gallery/lily-van-der-woodsen-with-rufus-humphrey/)
I am particularly interested in number 2. Any ideas how to make it?

I'm going to guess that the easiest way is to have a whole department of professional hair stylists. :)

I love the hair styles they do on this show. Sex and the City 2, the movie also had some beautiful updo's! But I dont know how to do them lol.

Those pictures make me want to have a live in hair stylist do my hair up every day!

Can't stand the show, so I'm glad you spotted them haha :D Agree with CarpeDM... I need a live in stylist too! I have no clue how to do it either :(

Maybe her hair is curled and then wrapped in sections around a flat rectangular shaped rat.

her styles look to be heavily coated in product. As far as I could tell they're mostly messy buns and rolls, it seems like the stylist pulled the hair back into a pony tail and curled the ends and either bun them or pinned them up. The picture in #3 looks to be a variation of the rolled braid (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=30903). I remember learning how to do the roll from the same Kluz Braiding and Styles book when I was younger.

I am currently re-watching season 1... I think its in hmm episode 5 or 6 - the one where Lily takes Rufus to Eleanor's party to make Bart Bass jealous and they kiss.. she has a lovely braided bun with two braids along the side of her head. LOVED IT!

So I tried to imitate hairstyle #2 (http://www.tvfanatic.com/gallery/dancing-to-robyn/) and it doesn't look too good..... I think Frizzinator's theory about wrapping parts of her hair around someting is right. Though I have no clue what to use as a base....

I prefer the styles worn by Serena and Blair. Actually it never occurred to me to be interested in Lily's styles.

The up-dos looked too messy for my taste (for formal wear), when I sport a casual look I do enjoy messy up-dos. I think "our own" LHC'ers make the best up-dos! :)

Mariika! I think your updo looks great! How did you do it?

The #2 updo photo looks like a rectangular shaped updo pinned to the back of her head.

The rats I've owned were made of a single piece of foam rubber in a round shape. The foam form was wrapped in plastic mesh that was sturdy enough to survive repeated placement and removal of bobby pins.

There have been a number of threads here on LHC discussing how rats were made historically. One would save one's own shed hairs and wrap them in a hair net. But I think it would be possible to make a rat with foam rubber and a hair net, without the burden of saving shed hair.

hana212: I'm fairly sure that particular one was a wig or partial wig. KR doesn't have that much hair, and it looks very stiff.

Season 1 had a number of great episodes. Fell off a cliff since, though.

This looks awesome!! I love how well your texture works with this updo. I'd also like to hear a little more about how you did this.

Your updo looks great! Definitely Lily-esque.

Gossip Girl is a true guilty please for me. I love it a little too much. I still want hair like Serena's even though I know Blake Lively has extensions and a squad of personal stylists.

OMG!! This made me think that I have something like that that I can use!!! My bobby pins base, the one they came attached to!! Thank you!

Okay, for Frizzinator and you, and if anyone else will get interested: I divided my hair in four parts - in two equal parts, left and right, at first, and then I divided a smaller part close to the temples. I rolled each of the two central parts so that the beginning of the rope was close to my neck, not up my nape (because later I tried that and it looked so ugly). Then I pinned those rolled now rope-like parts - each to its respective side (right or left) in a form of a small circle. Then I rolled two remaining marginal parts near my temples and pinned them above the two previous parts.

I'm pretty sure she did have some added hair in that updo but I have to disagree that her hair is stiff - on the other hand, it looks very fair to me.

Same here :) But yeah, Blake has hair that looks gorgeous only when it's styled carefully. Some episodes ago (I believe in season premiere) she had TERRIBLE hair, I was shocked! Her stylists must have hated her that day XD

Mariika, if you intend to put some kind of base inside the mesh, and if you are wondering how you will keep this base inside the mesh, I'd like to suggest that maybe you could stitch the mesh together around the edges.

Thanks, I think this is a very good idea (as my base is way too long anyways))).
