I have always been a blonde, (highlighted) and I love love love being a blonde but just recently been toying with the idea of doing a chocolate brown or even darker. I think the dark colors just shine like no other, not that the blonds are not beautiful too, and pre LHC never even thought of going dark.... but just wanted to see some photos of people that have successfully transformed their blonde locks to brunette and love it as much or even more.

I have only been highlighting my very very top layer

Well, this was me as a blonde last year:

http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/picture.php?pictureid=89395&albumid=2400&dl=1291074139&thumb=1

And this is me, dyed darker again at the beginning of this month:

I know that the resolution on my blonde pic is not as good, as I was using a cell phone vs. my digital camera for my darker hair color, but i have to say, my hair looks much shinier and healthier when it is darker. Plus, brunette fits my face better. Blonde just washes me out!

Oh I soooo love the color of your hair. matter of fact I saw your album and even commented on the color a few days ago... I think this is a huge difference and it's soooooo beautiful... it's tough because I have been a blonde my whole life and the few years I went light brown I hated it.. but really dark that would be fun. hummmmmmm

Thank you so much for the compliments. :inlove:

I totally understand what you mean about light brown vs. blonde. My hair naturally falls into a dark blonde/light brown category, and I just think it is drab when I stay with my natural color. But when I got a little darker, I feel much better about it.

It is a big change, so definitely think hard about it. It's easier to go light to dark but a bit harder to go back.

ETA: BTW, I think your blonde hair already looks much healthier and prettier than mine did. I really think the stylist did a bad job of making sure she didn't damage my hair when I got those highlights.

If you look at my photo album you can see a picture of me with brown hair that was succesfully done in one day (from blonde to brown)... In the past 5 years I have been brunette twice and blonde in between and now back to blonde.. you just need to find a good hairdresser but trust me, it is harder and a lengthier process going from brown to blonde again...

If you want to go dark, use a semi permanent that will wash out eventually if you're not sure about it first. It's easy to go dark but getting dark hair back to blonde again is a very tricky process.

I don't have "after" photos, but about 20 years ago I had a platinum blonde crop for a summer. When I'd had enough of having my roots done every payday, I went to the Vidal Sassoon Academy to have it dyed back brown again for a fiver, by advanced students under supervision.

I remember they had to do a 2-step process, covering the blonde with tomato red first before dyeing it the final brown colour.

I was blonde my entire adult life until I discovered henndigo.

I loved being blonde but my hair was breaking off! You can see blonde and brown pics in my album, we're talking very light blonde and very dark brown. :)

I like the dark brown but I still miss being blonde sometimes.

Actually I also didn't like lighter/medium browns on me, but the dark colour is better. (My avatar makes my hair look much lighter - I blame flash)

I am naturally blonde and for a while had some highlights mixed in there too (not so many that it was damaging, but I also kept it short and straight) I am the one with the short hair:

and here my hair now. I think this helped that I had it red in between going from these colours. It acted as a sort of filler.

I'm doing this on Friday. DH really loves my hair dark, so after highlighting and lightening base colour, I'm going back to my natural very dark brown in a couple of days. I can't wait! I haven't seen my hair properly shiny in ages.

Thank you all!!!! I will go through the albums again... think I have gone through most of them at one point in time (I stalk the albums) :)

Hey we both went through the bleach breakage.. I remember that thread.. Bleach is bad!!! but not saying you can't have blonde hair without breakage, just need a good hairdresser like you said. (I have to say I like you as a blonde it looks great on you!)

I have totally thought of doing that, only thing is I'm afraid of the color staining my blonde hair, but again if I really did decide to go dark I would do that first to see if it's something I really like or just sounds beautiful in theory. (as all my hair cut, color and styles are) :)

Your hair looks beautiful! guess it's just something you have to jump in and do.

I think no matter what we have blonde, brown, long, short we sometimes just want it different. (is this a girl thing?) :) also just went through your albums and you look fantastic dark!!! I think the blonde washes you out and the dark brings out your features more... (just my opinion) :)

I will think very very hard and long about this... I know I hated medium to light brown on me with no highlights, just didn't feel like "me" and guess for me anyways it has no real "punch" and yes it's huge to go from dark to light , and my very fine hair could not handle it, so just getting some ideas...

I went from white blonde to dark brown. I loved it but because my natural hair is so light my roots made me look like i was going grey! There is a picture in my album of me brunette :D

I have been going back and forth from blonde to brown for years :)

ps. I'm a natural blonde ;)

Here I am as a blonde

And here are som shades of brown I've tried. I find the darker shades work well with my pale skin and blue eyes, but I;m at a light brown right now.

This one is current

If you are unsure its best to maybe do a temp lighter brown dye? Thats what my hair is right now, so it will fade over the months back to your original shade.

Hello, :waving:

I am blonde naturally....

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u63/evie_066/blonde04.jpg

then went to reddish brown

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u63/evie_066/2007_0916YvetteMalverns0086.jpg

Which I'd still like to go back to someday

And now have dark, dark hair!

http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u63/evie_066/croppedimage2.jpg

which I love too - I have pale skin and blue eyes, and so like dark hair on me too :D

My album has photos of the bottle blonde, and then the hendigo brown. Commercial brown dye over the blonde wrecked my hair. Only the hendigo allowed me to save it.

I was platinum bottle blond before I joined this site. All of these pics and in my album are different shades of Henna.

There is a thread called 'dye your hair online'. It is a great way to see which hair colour will suit you. I photoshopped my hair colour to both auburn and black on Taaz. I have light brown hair and the black didn't suit me at all.

Now I am toying with the idea of using a sem-permanent hair colour to change it to auburn. A year ago I was against this althogether! Photoshop is so neat and this week was the first time I have every photoshopped myself. I even put lipstick on in my photoshopped photos!
