Hi,

I know it's normal to shed some more after scritching and or massaging.

But I've noticed that some people have fallen hair with the bulb at the base, why is that? Also, some people seem to have sebum balls or caked sebum --- do these contribute to the bulbs at the base and are they a reason in themselves for increased shedding?

I've noticed others have shed hairs without any balls no matter how aggressive the scritching/massaging was -- any ideas?

The bulb at the base is the root of the hair. That means the hair has come out from the root, a truly shed hair whose time had simply come, and a new hair will soon start growing in in its place.

Hair without the bulb at the base is hair that has broken off somewhere along the length and not a true shed hair. Somewhere on your head, the rest of that hair is still there, still attached, but shorter because part of it has broken off.
