I came across this yesterday in which Sofia Vergara admits that she is actually blonde, along with some pics of her with her natural color!

Personal Quotes

I'm a natural blonde. But when I started acting, I would go to auditions and they didn't know where to put me because I was voluptuous and had the accent - but I had blonde hair. It was ignorance: They thought every Latin person looks like Salma Hayek.
Here is a pic of her at the latest Emmys, with dark hair:

http://www.imdb.com/media/rm836075776/nm0005527

And here is her with her natural blonde hair:

http://www.imdb.com/media/rm2399311872/nm0005527

Isn't that surprising? The dark hair looks so natural and beautiful, I was really surprised to see that she is really blonde!

I had heard her say in an interview that she actually had blonde hair, but I had never looked up any pictures. I think she looks good both ways, actually! She's so right though; not every Latin person looks like Salma Hayek (or her, for that matter :)).

So was Elvis and so is Katy Perry.
I love everyone's dark locks - they look very natural with the blonde, but the dark hair makes them look otherwordly.

I read about this a couple of months ago & was sorta surprised, but I've seen Spaniards with white-blonde hair so its very common for spanish people to be blonde

And Dita von Teese.

I wonder if more people suit dark hair when they are blonde than the other way around?

Elvis looks really weird with blonde hair though! It doesn't look like him!

You know, seeing all these has made me feel so much better about defying the constant stream of questions I get about why I dye my hair dark and am not happy just to be my natural blonde - I feel 'me' with dark hair, and I love the Dita/Katy dark hair and pale skin look - thanks for posting these pics and links :D

Do you mean "Spanish" as in European? Whenever I hear the term, "Spanish people" I think of "South American Hispanics". I think that's probably because I have more contact with Hispanics than I do Spaniards.

She's Colombian and I think dark hair would the average. Of course there will always be other hair colors especially in south America where there is a big cultural mix. Even light brunets can have their hair bleached by the sun, and I would consider that a "natural blond."

I remember in Jamaica there were a few girls with pale brown hair that would be kissed blond or red by the sun. I know I can't be in the sun day after day unless I want people asking what I dyed my hair with. :p I do think it can be a bit ignorant to assume a person from wherever must look a certain way. There's no one "Latina look".

Lucille Ball (of I Love Lucy) was not originally a red head. She was a brunette, who bleached i blonde to try to get more acting jobs, but she realized she blended in with every other blonde actress. She decided to dye her hair red in an effort to stand out.

I believe Angelina Jolie and Megan Fox are also natural blondes. Dark or black hair makes certain people look more exotic and I can attest to that! ;)

It looks like the shade of brunette her hair is dyed is very flattering with her natural coloring and thus looks very flattering on her. She's beautiful either way. :D

ETA: I'm not implying that people should dye their hair according to their natrual coloring and any deviations from such are not flattering. I'm just saying that the darker color blends with her coloring really well. I've seen so many people who do not follow the "rule" to follow their natural coloring who look simply striking. I hope that made sense...

I think she looks pretty great with both colors! I find it kind of hard to believe and fascinating that latinas have blonde hair, but everything is possible, right? She has beautiful hair, and the blonde color was gorgeous!

The reason these people :Elvis,Katy Perry,Angelina Jolie,Megan Fox,Leighton Meester etc (all natural blondes) dyed their blonde hair black or brown is because these colors work better with fair skin-the skin tone blondes are generally born with.Blonde makes them washed out because the blonde clashes with the fair skin tone.

But in Sofia's case, the tan skin and blonde hair+voluptous figure made her look like a.. ahem..ahem.. porn star.Yes,a sexy movies star,so she had to change it.

Altough,Angelina Jolie must've said that she is blonde just so that she can say something.I read the interview in which she stated she is a natural blonde. She said her mother didn't like the color of her locks,so her mother dyed her (Angelina's) hair since she was 4.It is kind of hard to believe.

Spaniards are mostly blond haired and blue eyed. I think you may be confusing Latina with Mexican, which is primarily dark eyes and hair.

Edit: I take it back. It's definitely not "most" as I had originally thought. But I don't think it's all that unusual either.

I wouldn't necessarily say that one's natural hair color "clashes" with their skin tone, as one's natural coloring tends to be quite harmonious. It's kind of hard to me to explain, but after doing some reading on people's natural coloring, I have noticed that their natural undertones don't really "clash." There may be exceptions to this, of course. I think a more appropriate description would be "softer" because both skin and hair are light in color as opposed to saying that they look "washed out." I think "washed out" has a very distinctive look to it because it can make you look drained or tired.

I think the Pretty Your World (http://www.prettyyourworld.com/) Web site shows a lot of great examples of natural coloring/undertones/etc and I feel that it can explain these much better than I can.

I am not saying that you are wrong or anything and I don't want to start an argument. I just want to help clarify things. :) And again, I am also not implying that people need/should follow the "rules" that the above Web site states nor that people should be placed into categories or whatnot. I just find all the ways in which everyone is different very fascinating.

There were a lot of German settlers in central and south America during the WWII era, so it is very common to find people with latin accents and white skin with blonde hair and blue eyes. They're everywhere. It is a little confusing to the brain, but it's not at all uncommon. It's funny, models tend to gradually lighten their hair even if they are latin, but actresses are having a darker hair trend. They do what they do. It doesn't really make any difference to me, as long as they are cool people. I think most of them are crazy, so I try not to know about their lives.

I think the German "settlers" ;) played a part in some areas, but the European influence is a lot older. South America was colonized mainly by the Spanish. That's obviously the unfortunate reason most of South America speaks Spanish instead of their traditional languages.

She was in a lot of stuff, movies and TV, when she was younger. She was blonde and curvier... I like the dark better... But I'm also a blonde who dyed dark!

And I don't find it strange at all... I see a lot of Hispanics who "look white"... I'm really pale and my DBF is Mexican and his one aunt looks like she is part of MY family! The family always teases and saw we're related!

Yup,you're right! My mistake.It doesn't ''clash''.

In general, people with fair skin dye their hair black/brown etc,so they can get a lot more contrast. That's what I meant.Especially these people being ''Hollywood-ians'' , they require to have a more contrasting look,a more remarkable look. They need to have a perfect picture beautiful look.

For example,it is quite popular now to dye your hair black,if you have fair skin and blue eyes (eg.Katy Perry).

Thanks for correcting me!:)

Oh, I just found this thread! I have two real life examples.

First, my Sister-in-law is half-Mexican. Usually, that would mean that she would naturally have very dark features. She is a natural blonde with green eyes.

Secondly, I went to school with a girl whose mother honestly bottle bleached her daughter's hair from the time she was 7. So, I absolutely believe that Angelina Jolie's mom could've, would've done the same, but in reverse.

I'm pretty sure she's the model for the Garnier Nutrisse hair color for light brown.

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Garnier-Fructis-Permanent-60-Light-Natural-Brown-Acorn-Hair-Color/10533217

She may have been blonde when she was younger and then it turned darker (as in that light brown/dark blonde color) as she got older. Personally I think that's likely the case with any Hollywood star who says they're naturally blonde but dye their hair either much lighter or darker. But that color is apparently too drab for being a celebrity so they have to dye it to one extreme or the other. Cheers to Taylor Swift who I think is wearing her hair natural even though it has turned to a darker blonde.

I grew up in Miami and saw the gamut of unlikely color combinations. Lots of natural blondes with blue eyes. Dark hair and dark eyes. I even had a friend who was redhaired and green eyes and pale and freckled and she was 100% Cuban. Her brother had darker skin, dark hair and dark eyes. That was pretty typical of Miami, which is largely Cuban with people from other islands thrown in. Not too many 2nd or 3 generation USA-folks there. Most people were directly from another country or were first generation.

I think Sofia Vergara looks striking with her dark hair but she looks more Colombian to me with her natural hair. Or at the very least more "natural". I can see Blond-Sofia in Colombia more than Dark-Sofia. But that might be the red-carpet look. Everyone is beautiful but in a more glamorous/otherworldy way.

I know many blondes with black eyebrows it happens! Yep me. When I was young people accused my mother of dyeing my hair white because of this. I had white hair and dark eyebrows. They have paled as I became older. I did go through a period when I dyed my hair dark just to change the way I appeared. A boyfriend didn't like the attention, I received being blonde. I dyed it dark, It amazed me the different treatment I received when doing this. In my photo albums I have pictures of both colors. I like being both colors but I could write a book on the way humans react on just hair colors alone ..lol

My mother has brown hair and blue eyes (like her father) and I have brown hair and brown eyes (like my father). I'm guessing the girl is 1/2 white and prob has a blonde haired green eyed parent so that is prob where they came from....

In all this discussion, did anyone notice that Sofia Vergara's hair is quite impressive in its own right?

Wow.
Also, on the topic of latinos having germanic ancestry, that mostly applies to Argentina, Uruguay and Chile, who implemented huge ad campaigns to get Germans to populate their "winderness" (inhabited only by those pesky indigenous). They're mostly blonde(ish) in those countries, yet perfectly "latino". Of course blondes exist in other countries as well, due to the extremely racist hierarchy of the colonies (indigenous = bad, european = good, etc) which led to inbreeding among the light-skinned (lighter haired) european ruling class and voilà! blonde latinos!

The "blonde" picture doesn't look very blonde to me either, it looks pretty dark at the roots and like it was highlighted. But I could be wrong. I do believe Angelina Jolie and some of the others have naturally dark blonde/light to medium brown hair.

I know there are unusual color combinations and some people look great in many colors. I have dyed my hair dark for a long time, because I love the exotic look. I have to dye my brows too though because they are pale and I look fake if I don't- But when I dye them too EVERYBODY thinks I am naturally very dark. My skin has yellow undertones and I tan to a golden bronze color. My eyes are pale aqua color but that looks pretty neat too.

I love the dark hair on me but I don't want the chemicals, or the hassle of two step hendigo, and the constant up-keep of roots AND brows!!

I totally get why some blondes want to dye their hair darker. Just as so many dark haired people bleach lighter, hehe :D

Just wanted to add that Winona Ryder is also naturally dirty blond/light brown and has dyed her hair dark for years! Like the other celebrities in this thread, she has beautiful porcelain skin and it made her look quite dramatic.

As for ethnic colorings, I will just say this. I know a full blooded East Asian (parents from Korea) girl with naturally light brown hair that is about the color of chestnut. Generalizations are just generalizations, not rules.

Sofia Vegara is Columbian..so I'm not suprised she's naturally blonde. A large portion of Columbians are mixed with European ancestry as are many Latinos..especially Spaniards. You can't always really go by hair color and skin tone to identify someone's ethnic or racial origin. I think people (especially in the USA) get caught up in that.. thinking belonging to a certain ethnic group means you MUST or SHOULD look like A. When that's not always the case. And considering being "Latino" is belonging to an "ethnic group/category" rather than a race.. so skin tones, eye color, and hair color can run the gambit rather easily.

interesting... isn't zooey deschanel also a natural blonde? and I think most of us know Christina Hendricks dyes her hair red. I think it's surprising since I never see pics of these people mentioned in this thread with roots... they get caught without makeup on but never without their roots dyed?

anyway makes me feel better for coloring over my blonde/light brown hair, for some reason it feels weird to me going darker or not blonder.

I think a lot of people claim to be naturally blonde just because they were blonder as a child.
