Hello,
I visited this forum for a while but this is my first post.

I need advise on how to do a hairstyle, as shown on the pictues below (on the second picture the one to the right). I really like this hairstyle! I spend much time trying to figure out how to do it but I can’t get a satisfying result. I also tried to imitate it with a french twist but it just doesn’t look right, besides the french twist is only on one side of the head.

I think my hair type is 1b/F/ii. My hair is not quite to the elbows but longer than shoulder length.

I’ll be grateful for your advise.

Hi! The black and white photo looks like it might be a french twist style.

I think there might be instructions in the articles section. Good luck!

Welcome to the LHC! :flower:

I think it's a French twist, very loose on top - perhaps with fingerwaves (or the model's natural wave pattern).

Hello and welcome to LHC :flower:

What an elegant style! I agree that it looks like a French twist. If that didn't work for you, maybe you could try a flipped cinnamon bun :) They look like French twists, but with a bun on top.

It does look like a French twist, with the front of the hair styled separately. You might take a look at these (http://beautyisathingofthepast.blogspot.com/2009/02/french-twist.html) 1964 instructions for a vintage look. Or these (http://beautyisathingofthepast.blogspot.com/2009/02/classic-french-roll.html), or these (http://beautyisathingofthepast.blogspot.com/2009/02/classic-french-roll.html). Welcome to LHC!

Thank you for all the answers. Now I know that this hairstyle is a french twist. I just did this up do, however, I didn't do the twist itself. I left out about 1/3 of the hair on one side and gathered the remaining hair into a flat bun. I then covered the bun with the hair that has been left out and secured it with hair pins on the opposite side of the head. I think it turned out well.

Also, I searched on the internet about the history of the french twist and I didn’t find much info. According to the links that Roseate gave, and the photos on my first post, the french twist existed in the 1960’s and before. However, I haven’t really found any other vintage photos of this hairstyle. I’d be happy to see some vintage photos with this up do or read about its history, if anyone has a link to it.
