As all of you Seattle/WA state LHCers well know winter weather has arrived at last! :) I was pleasently suprised that this cold, snowy weather has actually made my hair softer. It has fewer tangles than normal and so much shine. I have no idea why but I'm not complaining! I was wondering how/if winter weather has affected eveyone else's hair?

I live in Virginia, on the Coast and although its not even barely cold yet the static is making my hair insane! I think I might need a humidifidier soon! lol

We've been lucky here in NYC actually. Its been very warm this fall, in fact for weeks we have had days that were in the 50s and 60s even so we haven't seen any snow yet. My hair hasn't suffered at all, I'm crossing my finger that we get a mild winter this year!!

Grrrrrr.
The Windy City... is rather windy.
My hair is not having it at all.

Seattle/Wasington weather seems a lot like Irish weather: cooler, damper and overcast!
It's getting cold here, worse on windy days.
My hair seems to be much less dry in winter so I guess it likes the damp and cold. In summer it's sooo dry, and summers aren't even that hot here.

The snow has started piling up here in north east England, I'm going to have icicles hanging off my head :D

@irishlady: My hair is the same- it seems to love the damp and cold. Maybe it is because my ethnic heritage is mostly from cold climantes like Sweden, Russia and northern Japan.

It got up to 81 degrees here, but a cold front's coming in. My hair reacts to winter as it always has - static driving me crazy! :brains:

Now that summer is over, my hair isn't going nuts and transforming into a fuzzball, which is nice. I did have to stop using my AO Honeysuckle Rose conditioner, though, because there is so much moisture in the air (I live in southern Oregon).

I am so happy not to have to deal with humidity and my hair poofing, I won't complain about the static.:)

Here in Ontario, the winters are cold and dry, and my hair forms these really nice loose waves. I love them. In the summer, it's just too frizzy. I lvoe what the winter does for my hair! I just love winter in general! It's my favorite season, followed closely by autumn.

70 degrees and sunny here in Arizona... the weather is gorgeous but it's so dry it makes my hair fall flat. We probably won't get rain for months, so it's time to break out the humidifer again!

My hair has been really staticky the last couple of weeks since it's gotten colder. My skin is drying out, but I haven't noticed my hair being especially dry.

My scalp gets greasier faster and my lenghts are drier. Think I'll be keeping it up and ignoring it for the most part until March or so.

I actually don't notice much difference in my hair except for a week or so in fall when it looks a lot more dry than usual. Then I know it's time to break out the Aubrey Organics White Camellia conditioner - oiliest conditioner on the planet. :) then all is well again.
My nape is somewhat tangly from rubbing against wool scarves and wool coat. I guess my next scarf purchase will be something smoother.

Well, here in Saskatchewan Cananda, it's been about -20C lately and the warmest for the last week or 2 has been -10C (sorry idk what that is in F).
My hair hates and loves winters here. Sometimes it's cool and dry, sometimes cool and moist, sometimes really cold and dry and sometimes really cold and moist. On the bad days, easy, bun it, cover it, forget it. =D My hair and I have this... understanding now for when it's winter :eyebrows: though, it is shinier and smoother :crush:
Happy hair! :cheese:

I haven't noticed a big difference in my hair except that it is less frizzy this time of year. The biggest adjustment is that I have gotten into the habit of wearing it up and I have never been through a winter with hair up before. Brrrrrrr. And it isn't even really cold yet. And what to do about a hat? I need a calorimetry, or something. Maybe one of those beret thingys.

I love winter! I wouldn't mind living in -20C 9 months of the year, followed by spring and a comfy 15-20C and then right back to -20C. :crush:
My hair likes winter almost as much as I do. My hair really settles down, I get less frizz, more defined waves and it just behaves better overall.

It's snowing here now :( I haven't noticed much change in my hair yet, except for one -- it's not getting greasy as fast and it's easier for me to stretch washes. So yay :)

This past while it's been -30 and then this week it has been -2 or so. I've been a total greaseball. I Co and a day later I'm greasy :@ I'm not sure if it's winter or if my hair hates the new house water.

It just recently got cold out so my hair isn't showing any changes yet. It frizzes out if I go outside, but that happens anyway even in summer.

Winter is finally here along with dry hair, more tangles, and itchy scalp. On the bright side, at least I don't have to wash my scalp so often!

It is dry dry DRY here and my hair is usually a mess of static-crazed tangled hairs. Not this winter !! I finally found what works for me. After I get out of the shower I detangle my hair, spritz with a potion of 1/4th coney conditioner (Garneir Fructis Lengthen & Strengthen) and 3/4th water mixed in my mister bottle. Then I apply jojoba oil to my damp hair. I split my hair in half and use about ten drops on each side. I rub it in my palms and then slide them over my hair and through my ends. Unbelievable !!!!!! I tried this before with coconut oil and it didn't work. I had a greasy mess. For some reason the jojoba oil is what works for me. No static, no tangles, super soft and shiny. LOVE IT !!!!!!!

Snow + Cold + Dry indoor climate and radiators = Epic dryness. Oils and leave-ins makes my hair greasy, heavy conditioners doesn’t help much. And it’s prom this night :( At least the snow is beautiful!

I love winter granted it's snowy and sunny :) but my hair suffers a lot from central heating. My skin as well. I've got humidifier and it helps a bit but yet no miracle :(
PS Gosh as per your posts it seems like snow is everywhere but not in Moscow! Not fair.

Hair feeling quite smooth and sleek and has a nice softness. Been squashed with hats/hoods lately, out to cold from warm, oiled yesterday, had a wash with SLS free and condition with cone conditioner this morning. Bit of shine thanks to coconut oil on the ends. Actually alot better than couple weeks ago. :)

Static and incredibly dry. I'm actually dampening it at night, slathering on some leave-in coney conditioner, and then braiding it or bunning it. So far it hasn't done much but make it smell like raspberries...however, my entire BODY is saying "wait, what is this then?" when it comes to how incredibly low the humidity level is here.

It sheds/thins a bit more. It becomes less frizzy, smoother and more dry. I love winter for that! I wish I lived in AZ instead of FL. My hair quite enjoys and behaves nicely in dry air.

The cold weather really takes the body out of my hair. I even quit doing olive oil treatments for a while because everything was making it flat, wispy and thin. But I did a cassia treatment two weeks ago and it has really helped, I even have started to do oil treatments again, although a lot more sparingly. I have decided I am going to try do a cassia treatment once a month during the cold weather season.

Something weird and wonderful happened yesterday - I brushed my hair (yeah, I know, it’s a bad detangling habit) and my hair was wonderful - shiny perfect curls/waves, and thick. Yay. Maybe my hair likes winter sometimes after all :D

My hair used to be more healthy in summer but this year it reacts very well to the cold weather, I don't know why... I mean, it is much more beautiful now than it was in summer. I wonder if "summer hair" can suddenly become "winter hair" ?

I live in the Seattle area too (but right now I go to school in Bellingham). The cold and the wind dry out my hair, as well as blasting the heaters inside the house. My hair gets caught in the zippers of my coats. I hate it. :(

Winter seems to be better on my hair. I wear more hats so my hair is protected from the weather and I also mess with it less since my hands are gloved most of the time. :D

I love winter because I can go an extra couple of days without washing. On the flip side, I struggle with styles I can wear under my hats.

The only change I have notice is some static...well I had tons until I noticed the wonders of Aloe Vera gel on damp hair. Work wonders. :)

Well, we're in a cold snap now... so I'm finding I'm wearing pins more instead of hairsticks, because they fit under hats better.

I am in SE OH and it's not so much the cold air outside but the dry air inside. I make sure to deep condition more often and wear a bun. I am using more olive oil as well.

Dry inside air is also getting to my little hairs. Trying to oil it up with EVOO in hopes of some hydration/less static. But, it isn't really working yet...

My hair usually gets dry and static-y in the winter, but now that I have LHC-style hair habits, it will hopefully behave itself. So far, no problems. :)

I am in South West England and although we still don't have snow, it is very cold. My hair has been noticeably more dry and frizzy since the cold snap arrived. I heard once that central heating plays havoc with the moisture levels in your skin and hair and that the solution is to place a bowl of water in each room. Unfortunately my cottage is already too damp, so I won't be trying that one out! I do think that central heating does make the effects of the winter weather worse though. Last year I braved the cold in the house for longer without heating and my hair was not nearly as dry. This year my skin is peeling terribly too. :(

I get static in my hair for sure. That's about it for my hair though.
What really starts to get unhappy is my scalp. I don't know if I just get really used to the extreme humidity here in the summer or what. (which my skin/scalp loooves) :crush:. But by winter, as soon as the air gets dry and the cold wind kicks in, my scalp (and skin) starts getting terribly dry, especially on the top where its exposed most get the part in my hair.
I'm also suspicious about my use of extremely hot water when it gets cold too--the shower head beats down right on top of my head, so that skin gets the brunt of the heat. So I've tried to lay off that. :o
I've tried Honey/Lemon/Tea tree scalp massages about twice in the last month to make the skin get better. It has really moistened my hair and scalp. So far so good. :)
ETA: I'm prone to an oily scalp, even in winter. I never condition my scalp because of this. I'm a bit reluctant to try any sort of oils on my scalp... but maybe I should try an SMT with a bit of oil sometime... or condition my scalp every blue moon in the winter. Maybe that's what it needs, hm.

The weather usally will produce 1 of 2 noticable results onto my hair, frizzy or frizz-free. Winter is when my hair is quite frizz-free. Also I don't have to wash or moisturize as much during the cooler months.

I get so frustrated with my hair in winter - at least those periods when it is really cold. If I don't have my hair in an updo, I am guaranteed to look like a mad scientist within minutes - hair flying everywhere, getting into whatever I am doing, and generally getting tangled. :(
And I am likely to get a shock whenever I touch anything made of metal. It is not only my hair that builds up a static charge! :justy:
So I never wear my hair down - or even in a half-up - in such conditions!

Here in Oregon we are just wet, wet, wet. Makes my hair curl and get poofy. I have to find ways to avoid getting my hair wet or it just gets bigger and bigger every time it begins to dry out. On the plus side, it sure is soft!

I grew up about an hour and a half north of Seattle and winter usually just made my hair grow faster and not quite so willing to be dried out. Since moving another hour and a half north where it's a fair amount drier in the winter my ends get crispy if I don't add a little oil to them while my hair's wet.
