There's no reason you shouldn't be able to start threads. That's something available to all users, regardless of other permissions. When you're on one of the boards viewing the list of threads, there's a button that says "New" to the upper left of the list of threads. Can you find it?

I had a question but wasn't sure where to post it. I hope this is ok. I thought I had seen somewhere that it is against LHC rules to discuss or create threads about politics. I was looking for community rules on such things but can't find it now. Anyway, there is a lot of political debating going on on the "Friendship Board." I just wanted to get some clarification as to whether this is allowed. I might be confusing LHC rules with the rules of another forum.
Thanks!

They're not against LHC rules, but political discussions are subject to the same rules about speaking respectfully as everything else is here. Historically, political threads tend to go badly and sometimes have to be closed.

I have a question about the sticky on the forum home page about User permissions (by Finoriel). It takes up a lot of room on the screen, and it will not stay folded. How long is it going to stay up for? Would it be possible to at least set it up so it will stay folded, like the User CP (which is also available on the home page)?

Expanding on physicschick's question, I'm assuming you mean the one on the index page (http://www.longhaircommunity.com/index.php)? I'll assume it is for this post, and reply with that in mind. If it's not, please let us know. :D
On that page it's not exactly just a sticky, but rather set as a forum announcement. While it's set to be up there, its default state is to be opened instead of minimized, which is why it ends up opened again if you minimize it, navigate away, and then come back.
More often than not certain announcements are kept up for quite a while, like the post count one you see now, due to its ongoing ability to be useful. That is especially true with new members who may not be aware of the permissions levels upon joining, so it will be front and center where they can easily see and be helped by it. :)
Same here. I have never figured that one out.
You can also bookmark this handy dandy little page (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/misc.php?do=showsmilies), so that you'll always have your own source of codes without needing to memorize them. :D

Okay, so I guess the answer is that it will not stay minimized even if I've read it 30 times. Got it :)

Why can't I see all images posted to threads? There is someone who posted progress pictures on The "Mane" Board and I simply cannot see them. I've tried two browsers, my settings allow it, I don't have any ad blocker on, and I'm pretty computer-literate. What am I doing wrong? :blushing:

Some images are hosted in people's albums on LHC. This thread (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=68520) explains when you'll be able to see albums. You should already see images that are hosted at external sites like Photobucket.

OK, I've got a question.
In the left-most column of the forum when you're viewing the list of threads, for active threads, there's a little bubble. It's generally gray, blue, red, or yellow, and it gets a little dot in the center if you have posted in that thread.
What do the colors indicate?
ETA: Nevermind. Theres a key at the bottom to make me feel dumb. Which of course, I noticed immediately after asking.
Still, what differentiates the heat of a thread?

Definitely not a set answer, but I'd assume traffic volume. High traffic on a hot thread, a normal thread maybe one new post.

To autosubscribe to threads you post in, go User CP > Settings and Options > Edit Options (here: http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/profile.php?do=editoptions).
To subscribe to an individual thread, click 'thread tools' at the top of any page on a thread, and then 'subscribe to thread'.

She's exactly right. :D If you're not sure exactly which post will end up being the last one you will quote, you can use the http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/images/buttons/multiquote_off.gif button to select the posts you wish to quote, and when you're ready to compose your post you can hit the http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/images/buttons/reply.gif button on the thread.

That is due to the current problems with the photo uploading process, seen in this thread in Site Support:
http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=92232
That should clarify why you are having difficulties, but unfortunately it won't serve as a solution in the short term.
We're awaiting a fix and likely new allocated storage space by those with access.

Under "My Activity," there are tabs for "All," yourself, and "Friends." It defaults to "All," so I think you're seeing activity from everyone on your friend list, and the most recent happens to be from Growing Glory. If you click the tab for yourself, you'll just see your own activity.

Until then here is an archive of the Articles section from 2011, which should have quite a substantial amount of the content that's been missing:

Not even sure what site notifications are?
Site notifications show up when you have a PM or visitor message, and appear on the upper right corner of the page. There is a "Welcome, [your name]" message, and "Notifications" should be to the right of it. If there is no number next to "Notifications" then you don't have any new ones, but if you see a number you can click on it and it will itemize what needs viewing. An example might be along the lines of "1 Visitor Message" along with "1 Private Message". :)

If you want an album, you're going to have to reload pictures into a new one. Doesn't appear likely that the old albums will return.

So what about the email notifications?
Stay tuned for something in that vein. :)
Until then here is an archive of the Articles section from 2011, which should have quite a substantial amount of the content that's been missing:
http://web.archive.org/web/20111221084724/http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/vbjournal.php?do=main

Sabrinaclrke, it doesn't look like your thread was shut down. Still open as far as I can tell.

This thread?: http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=128056
It is still open for business :) If you had posted it in the Mane Forum, it likely was just moved for you. This helps make sure our hair toy fiends see it and keeps things more organized.

Hmmm, lemme give it a try! Is it the same thread that I linked or a different one?
ETA: Oooh, wait I see what you mean. It let me post since I am a mod, but then I saw the closed button you mentioned, but it doesn't show closed in the title. I blame gremlins and shall work on banishing them!

Yep! Go to their profile, and it will be on the left hand side as an option.

Or if you know their username, you can manually manage your list here:
http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/profile.php?do=ignorelist
It's under your UserCP, which you can find by clicking Settings (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/usercp.php) up the upper right corner of the screen. :)

Yes but it's crappy. I have two I've blocked the people you block don't get a warning they are blocked. All you get a block deal when they post a reply. Everything else is the same.

How do I answer to polls?
Just tick the box next to the answer you want and click submit. You can't do that? If you can't, might have to do with your permissions. Read the permissions sticky in the "new" subforum.

How do I drag photos if I'm using my phone?
I uploaded some pics to add to my album but I can't drag them down to successfully add them. I'm using Android jelly bean. Though I uploaded some pics in my album through my laptop but I would like to use my phone.

Um... this is a dumb question, and I may be remembering things incorrectly, but I recall reading something about special boards/threads that aren't open to everyone and have really quality discussions? How many posts/days do you need to access them? Thanks!

It's apparently above 25 posts. I read this earliei lol. You might already know this though because you probably have access to them now.

Fortunately you can have quality discussions everywhere, regardless of the board. It's all in the topic. :disco:

Was wondering if you girls could change a feature in everyone's signature: I find it a bit confusing to read the length of hair in inches. So how about changing it to the well known milestones instead, as a default?
So when someone fills their profile they could only choose milestones instead of inches.
Do you think it's a good idea?

Did the site just get a new layout? Yesterday I was in the main forum and I clicked on a discussion, but when the page loaded, the layout was different and it's remained that way. It's not very easy to use and some features seem to be missing. It's harder to access specific things so I'm a little disappointed and I'm kind of hoping it's just a temporary things or some kind of glitch.

I’m not a moderator but this is how I see it - I think it comes down to preference, some people prefer to log inches or centimetres, and others prefer milestones, or a mixture. We’re all different heights and proportions. For example one person might measure waist length as 28” and it could be 33” for another. It helps with motivation, comparison and understanding if you can choose your own way to record your progress.

Measuring in inches is the only thing that keeps me sane! :rolling: Because I'm so tall, my hair seems so short. It would be most useful if people had their hair measurements in in/cm and then their height as well.
It's also crazy to see people with similar heights having totally different lengths at hip/waist etc. since all bodies are shaped differently.

When I upload a photo to an album, it keeps rotating? How can I prevent this from happening? I have tried rotating the photo itself and re uploading, but the problem persists.
Not sure if this is a new feature or not, but I searched the forums and couldn't find any similar inquiry and not sure where to ask.

I find that making the photo smaller stops that from happening. I don’t know what the magic proportions are but if the photo is small enough, it won’t rotate.

I’m glad this thread popped up because I wanted to add to my post (from 2 years ago, but only a couple of posts above this!) I couldn’t remember which thread it was in.
Some people have grown beyond floor length, so measuring in body milestones would be impossible :)

Thank you, unfortunately I made it much smaller and it still rotates. How do I notify a moderator?
Also, where does the thread "pop up" for you? I had to go back and try and find my post to see your reply :thud:

From what I understand, people navigate the site in different ways. I think the easiest way to view new posts is to click the "new posts" link under the forum tab in the banner.
Also, if you like you can also use the "thread tools" option located at the top of each thread to subscribe to any thread. After subscribing to threads you can view updates to them in by clicking the "subscribed threads" option in your profile.

How can I switch back from "desktop view" to "mobile view" when I view this forum on my phone? I set it to desktop view by accident and now I can't switch it back.

Usually this is in the configuration of the browser. You switch between the mobile version of the site or the full version.

meepster, there's a dropdown menu at the bottom left of the page. It says "LHC 4.2" and when you select it, you should be able to change it back to "LHC 4.2 Mobile". Conversely, to get the desktop style on your phone, tap "Full Site" at the bottom of the page.

My question is:
How do I reply to an individual post?
I don't know how.
Also, how to I put part of someone else's post into mine in order to adress or answer their post.
Thank you

At the bottom right of the post, you can click "Reply With Quote." That will put a quote of their post in the reply box for you.

Hi I feel like this is a dumb question... but is it only considered a "post" when I start a thread? Comments don't count? And, why does it say that I have 0 posts even though I did start one to introduce myself? I dunno how to get to 25 posts!

Hi all,
I wanted to add some new pictures but for some obscure reason I just get "upload failed" with no context. Is there a bug or am I doing something wrong?
