I've seen Henna used as body art like this:http://img207.imageshack.us/img207/4565/hennapaintedhands729642.jpg (http://img207.imageshack.us/i/hennapaintedhands729642.jpg/)

And I was wondering if it the same as the Henna used for hair colouring?

Also, will Henna (for hair) stain your scalp like it does other parts of the skin (as above)?

I'm asking all this because I have a long scar from skull surgery years ago and it's visible through my hair. I was wondering if the henna could be used to stain that part to camouflage the scar? Just wondering if anyone has some info to share. Thanks!

Henna does stain the scalp but only briefly. It wears off quite quickly at least for me. It is the same henna recommended for hair. I'm no expert on henna and definitely not henna body art (beautiful as it is :) )but I believe that other things are added to the henna for body art sometimes to give variation in colour and to increase stain. I am not sure if they may be too strong for use on the head. Hoepfully a henna guru or two will be along shortly.

Maybe a little bit, but you'll never get a very strong stain. Hands and feet are the best places for henna stains.

Wikipedia says (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mehndi) it's because the skin on your hands and feet has the most keratin, which is what henna binds to.

I have henna'ed my hair for about 18 mos now, and honestly have never noticed it staining my scalp. I agree w/ Milui Elenath... I think they terp the henna (add EO's) among other things to get a stronger stain for the skin......

Yeah I didn't think it stained or else everyone who hennae'd would have a very dark scalp! Thanks marikamt (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/member.php?u=23880)

It does stain mine, but sloughs off in a day or two. I'm not sure about the scar. I haven't had a problem (I have two scars on my hand from falling off a bike or moped, and they haven't turned red for all the times I've hennaed my nails).
