Have you expirienced anything like that? From "Wow I wish mine was like that" to envious glances and evil comments

Definitely... a friend's daughter has beautiful long, natural hair that I admire! Of course, long in terms for me is just above waist :P I would love to have hair that long if I can remain patient enough :)

I have a friend who is growing out her hair as well. We have talked hair sometimes but not a whole lot. But I noticed her hair grows incredibly fast. We are talked 2 inches a month AT LEAST. In high school and college she had mid back to waist length. I meant to ask her the last time I saw her if she was planning to go back to that length but I didn't get a chance.

And of course I envy all the beautiful LHC hair. :D

I have been somewhat envious of my neighbor across the street.
She has had a waist-length braid for years, and my hair is stuck at mid-back for years.

I am glad to at last grow it past shoulder length, a previous sticking point on my hair, but i was certain it would grow longer than this!

Personally I envy the hair of my irish dance instructor - it's dyed in sophisticated red, past midback, totally sleek, straight and glossy without any ironing or such. But what I envy the most - she wears it *always* down and it's *never* tangeled or damaged. Even when she's dancing the fastest, the most jump-requiering choreography:agape:

Oh yes, I envy people with healthier hair- no splits. My eyesight is bad and I cant really see the splits so its really hard to tackle them

No evil comments, but I definitely envy the gorgeous hair I see in some signatures here! None of my friends have hair past their bra straps, but I do adore it nonetheless b/c it's often sleek and shiny (ironed, but still....).

All the time! Especially long/silky/wavy hair, but then I get people wishing that they had my hair as well, so that's flattering! :P

I too get hair envy all the time. I see so many folks with beautiful long thick hair, or hair that doesn't tangle (Eirinn's dance teacher) and I get hair envy.

In my town there was a very beautiful woman who always wore her black and very thick hair in a single braid. It was almost to her knees! While being braided!! The thickness was all the way to the ends and it was wide as a wrist! I suppose unbraided it was halfway past the knees. When I first saw her I felt a little envious, but then I realized that she is very nice, so the envy transformed into admiration and I was joyfull everytime I see her. But I don't know her personally, so I'm not biased.
But the last month when I saw her, her braid was only at mid-back length. I was kind of sad.

@Schnee: :spitting:There is absolutely no need for you to have hair envy at anyone IMO! You have amazing hair! (and I'm not envious!):)

Thank you. :) But you know, it's only human to always wish for something else than what we actually have. The truth is, if I had long curly red hair, I would probably be wishing for stick straight black hair... ;)

Yes, I think it's natural to have hair envy (more or less admiration). My friend's girlfriend has the thickest hair I've ever seen, probably 2b/M/C/iii (iiii even!) and I have some serious hair TYPE envy, but she doesn't take very good care of it, and just rips through it with a brush and puts it in a ponytail or messy bun all of the time. Other than thickness (I'd love some wave or curl, but probably wouldn't know how to handle it), I really do like my hair and have come to terms with it.

As they say, the grass is always greener. No matter how many people think my hair is great, I'll always see another who has hair better (or worse at times) than mine.

Oh yes, I mostly suffer from thickness envy. Sometimes curl envy, but I have also been known for the occasional redhead envy.

There are countless people with wonderful envyable hair here on the boards. In RL there are two women I really envy for their hair, one being a neighbour with perfect 3b curls at waist length, the other a girl from university with thick wavy hair at TB. Just gorgeous. But evil comments? No. Just silently sighing and dreaming of something unattainable ;).

I'm definately hair-envious of one of my best friends. I think I've talked about her before, she has iii waist-length almost black hair.
Some mornings I come over early and we go out for the day, and most of the time that means me ringing the doorbell wakes her up and I sit through her morning ritual (lay in bed whining about how I always insist on coming so early, even if she asked me to come at that time , talk to her while she brushes her teeth, etc.)

I sit there while she rips a brush through her hair and think "WTH... this is not fair. I'm the one that does CO, SMTs, experiments with honey, buys wide-tooth combs, oils, and shea butter. I'm the one that gets hair as dry as hay if I wash it any more than 1-2 times a week. I'm the one that leaves my hair up all the time to prevent damage even though I know sometimes It would look nicer down. She's the one that washes her hair every morning. She's the one that leaves it down every day, even when she's at soccer practice. She's the one that can cut her hair to shoulder length, and have it grow back to waist within a year (and has. I'm guessing her hair grows 2 inches a month on average.) She's the one that doesn't do any of that and has the shiniest, healthiest hair of anyone I know."

Yeah, it sucks having to compete with that. But I'd never let my envy go as far as making mean comments or encouraging her to do things that I know would be bad for her hair so I would feel superior. I hate people like that.

Hmm, of course. I envy most my friends hair, that is above waist, extremely thick and red. And my other friend that has waist lenght blond hair. I usually anvy people that have red hair, thought here in Colombia that does not happen to often. On, and browising LHC can bring occasional fils of envy, most recent Ninika, that posted a bit above. That is exactly hair I dream of.

What's the point of envy? There is enough information on LHC for all of us to figure out how to make our hair look great.

Do you really wish you had hair like someone else's hair? Or do you want to make your hair the best it can be?

Envy...no. Admiration...yes.

I think that the more years one has long hair, the more one just has to appreciate what one has. It is all about creating beauty with what one is given, not worrying about what one does not have. I think contentment has to be learned.

i have been trying to get past BSL for years. Of course I didn't have a clue what to do to get that until I joined here in january. Now I have about 2 -3 inches to go and it will reach the bottom of my bra strap (just the longest pieces) So whenever i see really long beautiful hair (especially dark straight and sleek) i really wish it were mine. My daughter has beautiful straight shiny blonde hair. It is past her bra. (sigh) mostly i admire the hair and sometimes i want to touch it.

A lot of my coworkers are always saying "it's so nice and long!" I don't think any of them wished their hair was long, though.. it seems to me that they can't help but be fascinated because they don't know anyone else with long hair, plus they don't understand why I'd want it that long in the first place. I tried explaining one time that really, it's much easier at my butt than mid back, stays out of the way, but I got weird looks so I gave up :-P

My hair is very tangle-prone, and will do so even if I've been sitting still. At least it's long enough now that I can have the car window down and not look like I've gone through a tornado when I get out.

All the time...that is the great and worst part about this site...you sit and wish your hair was like someone elses.

But then if you are admiring someone elses hair length it helps you push forward with yours.

My best friend has fast growing thick beautiful waist length dark hair. Tis gorgeous! I always beg her to wear it down when we go out. I wish my hair was as thick/fast growing as hers.
And.... pretty much everyone on here.

Also, though they are fictional, all of the Disney princesses have fantastic hair. Sadly I am not animated....

I assure you it looks better in the photo than in real life, and I wish my hair really WOULD look like that myself. I had to enhance the contrast in this pic and as a result, the hair color became this lovely bright shade of red. Ah, the wonders of Photo Shop!

It is actually much darker and hardly red anymore now that the first henna has faded. And those are just sock curls, quite easy to make so no need for envy there, either, just in case ;).

No hair envy but hair admiration here. I wish I had someone around whose hair I could admire IRL. Nobody I know has hair I like and I really enjoy the sight of beautiful long hair. That's why I love to spend time here admiring and finding inspiraton in others manes :)

I have 2 best friends that there hair grows super fast and they really dont take care of it, that’s as far as my envy goes. I wish mine would grow just as fast as there’s.

As for the women on LHC everyone here has beautiful hair it’s much more of admiring then envy. :D

Well I'm a bit surprised cause while posting this thread I was thinking of expiriencing envy rather from someone:redgrin::bluebiggr:grnbiggri But every thread lives it's own live;)

Do you mean 'are other people envious of our hair?'

Yes, I get a little of that from other people. I have a unique hair color, for one thing, so a lot of people act envious of my hair color (it's not blonde, it's not brown, it's not red, it's sort of . . . iced tea or honey colored with a few lighter streaks).

I get comments on the length whenever I wear it down, but it's hard to tell if that's "envy" or "amazement." I think that the people who envy me most are the people who think that bad hair just appeared on their own heads through no fault of their own, and that I have soft, tangle-free hair because the gods like me better:rolleyes:. My friends who are more savvy about hair admire mine but don't envy it, because they realize they could have nice long hair if they wanted it.

I have friends who demand that I never cut my hair. They may have shorter hair themselves, and they prefer to have short hair, but they like for *me* to have long hair. I suppose my hair allows them to live vicariously.

As for my own feelings of envy, well, that's a given! I envy people with thicker hair, and some days I envy curly girls and other days I envy straight haired girls. I sometimes envy the smooth, glossy heads of hennaed red hair here at LHC . . . But I love my own natural color too much to give it up. :)

I look at it this way. There are a ton of different kinds of hair you can have and all are equally attractive when properly taken care of. However, as a single person, we only have one type of hair that we're born with and we can manipulate our hair to a certain degree without damage, but it's not going to be the real thing. And some days, we just get bored of our own hair because it's with us 24/7 and when we see someone with very different hair that looks really good, we temporarily (or sometimes permanently) would like to try it for ourselves.

So I see a lot of hair that I like, but ultimately, I am quite happy with my own. It was given to me when I was born... for free! So I really can't complain.

Thank you. :) But you know, it's only human to always wish for something else than what we actually have. The truth is, if I had long curly red hair, I would probably be wishing for stick straight black hair... ;)

that's really the truth. . . I envy people with black straight hair! I've thought about coloring it but don't have the courage, plus my hair hates to be colored! what I mean by that is in two days the black will fade and in a week it will just look like my hair but darker.
That and I envy girls with really red hair, my red seems to be fading. . .:(

Even when I'm ultra-happy with my hair (which I'm getting better about lately!), I sometimes have major envy for women with very long and very thick hair. I just know that my hair can't really get all that much thicker, or at least not much less fine (genes), and so I have to handle it so much more gently.

I admire the hair of one of my closest friends. I'm not fond of the color or how thin her hair is, but rather her determination to keep it healthy and long (it's to her rearend). She does a great job of it.

As for people envying mine? Only when it was short did I get loads of good comments because it was lush with natural, springy curls while growing out. Now that it's longer...eh...it's not so cute. I really am in the ugly stage right now so I keep it up all the time.

Her hair is just passed waist, insanely thick, and a beautiful henna-ed red.

And it's absolutely healthy even though she sprays, straightens, ties it up WAY too tightly and brushes it like a maniac. :(

my boyfriend has dark gold, 2c/3a ringlets, fine but THICK hair at about APL. He never conditions, RIPS a brush through it, and it grows like a weed. OK, if you really look you see the damage from him wearing a ponytail every day, but at arm's length he has the hair of a gorgeous heathen prince.

I have a new acquaintance, another hair nerd, whose glossy, dark dark brown, 1b hair is thick all the way down, with an even, blunt hemline at BSL. When you pick up her hair and let it fall, it has WEIGHT to it - it even makes a NOISE. It is so glossy and smooth. When she puts it up, she can use a single hair toy and it stays, all day. I am envious of that, too.

As the owner of getting-thick, still-layered, mostly fine hair, I envy thickness the most. When hair is both long AND thick, I despair a little that my hair has no chance to ever look like that.

Nevermore
June 7th, 2008, 10:03 PM
I don't really envy other people's hair. I admire it and admire the person for growing it and taking good care of it, but I don't wish I had their hair. I really do love mine and while I'd like to be longer, that'll happen in time. My natural color isn't what I wanted as a kid, but I love it quite a bit now.

As for others envying my hair? It happens weirdly often, before I wore my hair up all the time, people used to walk up and PET me. I had a waitress do it once, while saying, "you have such pretty hair!!!!", it was creepy.

I'm usually the subject of hair envy. I get the "I wish my hair looked like yours!", the "Is your hair real?", the "Tell me what products you use!" comments whenever my hair is down.

I also get the nasty looks from girls in my neighborhood who relax their hair to death, which is not fun.

I never envied anyones hair, just admired..I have not met a lot of people with really long hair ( besides my mother), but I remember at my godmothers wedding , one of her old friends that was part of the wedding had the most gorgeous long hair I had ever seen IRL! It was a almost white blond, wavy, thick hair that was at her butt..do not know what length that is called :) But it was just beautiful..I remember thinking "wow, I can never have hair like that!" And I remember thinking how long it probably took her to grow it and since it was so beautiful, how super she took care of it..it was true admiration. I also remember when I worked at a VA hospital in Florida there was an elderly lady that had the most beautiful white hair in a bun..I always complimented her. I always try to compliment anyone I see with long hair because it is just not very ordinary ( sort of like we understand each other ), and it takes time and effort to get it that way. And I admire so many of the members on this board..what beautiful hair you all have!!
