Hi all

Any ideas where I can buy a satin pillowcase in the UK for my wife? Her hair is currently 24" long so I thought it might help with tangles!

Thanks
Matthew

Good topic. I would like to know where I can find one in the USA, affordable.

Do these really help?

With what in particular?

Breakage? Shine? Tangles?

I've heard so much about it but I'm not sure what it's for! =)

What I have heard is that they are slippery so that your hair slips around on them and therefore tangles less.

In the US, I got mine at Sally Beauty for $7.99. They have a website and they might ship to other countries...

In my opinion, it does help! My hair doesn't feel tangled or messy when I wake up. I would assume it helps prevent breakage too.

The only drawback (if it counts as one) is that it's COLD compared to cotton! It is getting cold where I live and in the middle of the night, when I switch positions, the satin pillowcase is not comforting and warm. I can live with that though if it's going to be good to my hair! :)

My satin sleep cap has made a HUGE difference in the texture and coarse-ness of my hair. I don't know if they would have the same effect on every type of hair, but I have thin, semi-coarse hair that was prone to frizz and cuticle disruption and my sleepcap saved me :)

Aww what a thoughtful gift!

For my money I would go for silk satin rather than a manmade satin fibre, which some people find really sweaty (myself included). They aren't cheap, but they WOULD make an incredibly luxurious gift!

I've never seen any in the shops but there seem to be plenty online - I haven't been able to afford it yet myself but here are some of my bookmarks. For some reason there is a heavy bias toward white in the market! - two specialist shops at

or

http://www.silksleep.com/silk-pillowcases.htm (with an option of pale blue or chocolate in addition to the standard white)

Also Ebay seems to have a variety with different colours and largely cheaper than the other options; here is my search (I've tried to exclude cushion covers but some sneaked in)

Good luck!

Gnomentum, thanks for the info and links. I have made some of mine, and bought some. From major dept stores, like Dillards mostly.

I have been sleeping on satin since I was 17 I think, 16 maybe. I keep trying to remember. It just seems like forever now, LOL. I began to use it for my skin. It helps with wrinkling. Or so I believe it does. And now I hope it is helping my hair, too.

Another option would be to see if you can find any silk satin or charmeuse fabric and have someone you know sew up a couple of them (they can use a regular one for the dimensions).

I will never go back to cotton! I do use silk though, rather than polyester or acetate. It is cool in summer and warms very quickly in winter.

Well said! Many think satin is a material, when in fact it is the weave. Both silk and polyester (avoid polyester--it doesn't breathe) can be satin.

This is what I was going to say! Although I didn't know they had other colours available. The pillowcases are really love, silk satin :)

I made mine out of a satin skirt I bought in a second hand shop.
If you can't be bothered making one then eBay usually have them for sale.

I think they're new; they didn't have they last time I was looking. I can't decide whether to invest in one though: it seems expensive, but I don't like polyester. Have you got one? The colours are quite nice, I think.

I bought a pillow case called smooth as silk at bed bath and beyond It was in the "as seen on tv " aisle. It's 100% charmeuse silk on one side , and i believe cotton on the other so it was under $20.00 (US). I even bought them for my son's ( one of which has long hair that tangles and mats soooo easily ) I may get some all charmeuse silk in the future but these work really well.

I bought mine from the seller feelingpampered on eBay. Wasn't too expensive, and they ship internationally. It's silk satin, which I would recommend over the synthetic satin.

Until you find a pillowcase you like, it also works to tie a satin/silk scarf over your pillow.

I threw one together out of some satin fabric left over from sewing - my hair does seem to be way less frizzy and tangled, but YES, it's COLD!! I'm kinda missing my soft, fuzzy flanel pillowcase now that winter is here! Oh, the things I do for my hair ..... :D

I have heard that satin pillowcases help with wrinkle prevention

I couldn't find any satin pillowcases, so I just sewed a square silk scarf up two sides. Ta-da, pillowcase. Works great if you have a scarf handy and know how to sew, otherwise not so helpful.
