Celtic knot question

Okay, I give up ... how are they done?

Did a Google search and found this site. I found Cinnamon's great site earlier and love her photos! Watched the German lady's video that was posted here, but still couldn't figure it out. And she certainly did make it look easy! I just couldn't see exactly what she was doing.

Being Irish, I'm quite familiar with Celtic knotwork, and may already be doing Celtic knots just by then usual way I twist and weave my hair around when doing a bun. I would like to know if there is an "official" way of doing it. (Geez, you'd think I'd know how by now, wouldn't you? :confused:)

Glad I found this forum. Great ideas and hairdo pictures of members, and you seem like a very friendly and polite group of people.

I believe the double-looped knot (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/vbjournal.php?do=article&articleid=32) is also called the Celtic knot.
(Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, because it confused me a bit in the beginning too ... :o )

Basically you tie your hair in a knot close to the scalp but don't pull the loop all the way through and wrap remaining length around the outside. Another thread (http://archive.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=29322&highlight=knot) discussing it. My best piece of advice for it is only use 2 or 3 fingers to wrap your length around, not a whole hand or wrist because then the loop is too loose and it will be difficult to secure.

I love Kupferzopfs site! Very good instructions indeed. I tried the celtic knot, but I'm afraid my hair is still too short.

Mine is also too short for a Celtic Knot! How long is enough? Does anybody know? I'm feeling quite the "shortie" now... on the top of being home sick, in a bad hair day, I discover my hair is too short for the beautiful celtic knot! :(

Sibilum, it's not only your length, but it may well be your thickness that prevents you from making the celtic knot. I could do it with my thin hair at 30".

Sibilum, I have a nape circumference of only about 3 inches, and I could just barely do a three-looped Celtic knot at 27 inches.

I think Celtic knots are my favorite (I'm still really new to the whole updo/bun thing, but this one stands out to me as very beautiful) Now, I just have to wait for my hair to be long enough!! It may take awhile... :(

My hair seems to be just the right length for the double-looped Celtic knot. But I find it works better to put the hair stick in from left to right--that is, first put it through the just-pulled-through loop first. Because after I let go, the whole bun seems to rotate slightly to the right (my right) so if I put the hair stick in from right to left, after it rotates the decorative end of the stick is pointed down. If I do it the other way, even though the decorative end is pointing down as I put the stick in, it straightens out to a horizontal position after I let go. It seems to be a very secure, comfortable bun, and I'm happy to have learned it.
