Ok am full of q's today, it's been quite awhile since I was last on..maybe 6months. So...I've been noticing alot of articles recently in mags that say you should be using sunscreen for your hair??? :eye: is this just for colored hair? am confused. I did notice my hair was a bit drier than usual at the end of this summer, unsure if that's b/c it was largely braided or in a ballerina knot. If you do have uncolored hair & are using sunscreen for your hair, are you using the same sunscreen you use on your body? and how much? thanks again...

Last year I bought spray-on sunscreen that was designed for hair (and scalp and tops of the ears). It was a Walgreen's generic brand. It worked for me.

I just do heavy oiling or even aloe works - or you can wear a pretty scarf or hat :)

I use it on my naturally colored hair to prevent the sun from lightening it. I want it as dark as possible. My spray on conditioner has a bit of SPF protection. I also never leave the house without 55 sunblock, so between dark hair & a deathly pallor, I look rather gothic. ;)

I avoid sun in general (other than my morning jog), but if I'm going to be out in sun longer than 15 minutes, I wear a hat or scarf. And SUNSCREEN on every single exposed part of my body.

These should help you; they seem most relevant. I never use sunscreen on my hair and it doesn't fade too badly. Not enough to bother me.

Maybe the ballerina knot causes friction, I avoid the buns that cause me hair damage (my hair is fine).

George Michael, the Czar of Long Hair, always recommended wearing a WHITE scarf on your hair when you were in the sun.

Wouldn't oil fry your hair worse if its in the sun? - like back in the olden days when people covered themselves in oil to tan
TBH I don't think sunscreen will do much for me in the hot hot hot aussie summer. Besides I'm inside most days of the week.. and only get 10 days holidays over chrissy with which to tan up and enjoy the sun...

Oh and why do other countries have 50+ sunscreen and we only go up to 30+ here in aus.. isn't that silly since its hotter here?

Normal sunscreen can actually do a lot of damage to your hair, it is not the same as a product meant for hair. Make sure to use something made specifically for hair or skin and hair. I use a spray in sunscreen protectant for my hair during the summer, it helps keep my color from fading and my hair does not get as dry from the sun exposure.
