What interesting compliments or comments do you got by strangers about your hair, cause you have long hair?

so i start:
1. next to a construction a worker whistled after me, cause he thinked i am a girl because i have long hair, and he have only seen me from back, i heard as an other worker said "you idiot, it was a man" :D.

2. More times(i say four or more times) happend when child ask parent about me, the little children think men have short hair, women have long, so i heard many times from a child asking his/her parent about i am a woman?

3. One woman at a store always ask me to sell my hair to her for extension, i always must sad her about it, cause i will never cut it :).

4. Some months ago at a bus stop two girl started to ask me about my hair, how much time was to grow it, how long i would grow it etc.

5. On way to workplace a gypsy woman had said to his son "look what long hair that boy have", and the boy confirmed it "yes it is really long".

I once had someone come up to me on the sidewalk outside my work and ask me if I was interested in selling my hair. He was very polite and left after I told him I wasn't interested, so it wasn't creepy. I took it as a great compliment!

The only comment I ever got from a stranger was similar. I was at a voting place and a small child asked her mother if I was a boy because my hair was so short at the time. Her mother told her to hush and told her I was a girl. :D Other than that, no strangers have commented on my long hair at all.

My hair isn't super long or anything (although some people think it's pretty long) but it's very thick. So a lot of people look at me with big eyes and ask if it's all my hair and how long it takes for me to do my hair. Or they'll ask me when I'm going to cut it.

I don't get strange compliments, just lovely ones, telling me that my hair is lovely/beautiful/there is so much of it.
I do get people asking me if it is all my own though which is strange, but understandle seeing the increasing of extensions theses days!

I wear my hair in a bun everyday at work (I'm an art teacher) and I took it down for the first time to take our faculty pictures. It was at waist... and several of my coworkers commented on how LONG and beautiful my hair was.. as they had no idea... and asked me to wear it down more often.

The first time my students saw it down they were also thrown aback.. "OMG! You have long hair!" I told them that I was stunned by their powers of observation and quickly reinvented my usual bun into place. LOL

I like how they all enjoyed seeing my little "secret"

People often asked "Is that all your own hair?" and I'd smile and say "Yes!"

When I was wearing a crown lace braid someone asked "Does your hair go all the way down to the floor?" I replied: "How I wish!"

I'd also get the usual questions: how long, do you have headaches with all that hair? Have you ever cut it? How did you get that shine?

The nicest comment I ever received was at the George Michael salon in NYC when my stylist said I was very handy with my hair..and would I consider applying for a job with them. I was very flattered but had to turn them down.

Every single time I wear my hair down, people around the office ask 'Did you cut your hair'?
Makes no sense to me :) My hair is already short, and I rarely wear it down, so people aren't seeing it every day. If anything it should look a little longer maybe? But whatever, I just say Yes, I did, and move on...

The best compliments I got:

1. A few years ago a gypsy woman who had extremely thick classic length braid told me my hair was nice. :)

2. Last summer I went shopping with my mom and the shopkeeper was a middle-aged woman. She wore a huge braided bun. I was thinking about how long her hair was when she came to me and asked what I used on my hair because it was so shiny. :D

3. In September I escorted my aunt to the hairdresser. While she was dying her hair I was sitting in a chair watching. The hairdresser suddenly came to me and stared at my hair. She was shocked and made a lot of compliments. :D

You should take it as a compliment!!!.. as an extension wearer myself I have to confess I see people with beautiful hair and think to myself "I would love to have their hair for my extensions".. (and not everyone with long hair qualifies for this.. long hair does not always mean beautiful hair) :)

Little old ladies in particular seem enthralled with my hair... younger folks seem to be brainwashed in the "flat-iron it straight" mode, but older ladies seem fascinated with the curls, remembering how they used to sleep in curlers every night to try to achieve what God gave me naturally.

1. All the old people who come into my work and compliment my braid, and once or twice tell me to never cut it :)
2 The single time I went to the hairdresser to get my hair done for the 6th year formal, I was hiding my hair down the back of my shirt, and when the stylist pulled it out, she spent the first 5 minutes just staring at it trying to work out how she could put it up. All the way through, she would stop and get confused because she couldn't work properly with so much. :D

I had very short hair when it was still mostly uncommon for girls so I used to get asked all the time why I would do that to myself. I would also get lots of insulting comments from my peers about my sexuality, but that's another story. I did used to get lots of little old ladies coming up to me and saying I looked like a flapper. :D Those were fun.

well this certainly wasn't a compliment, but it comes under comments: when I was 12 I had my hair shaved (long story) and twice in one day I was mistaken for being a boy... and I was wearing a bright pink jumper with a floral neckline :S
The first was at the zoo in the room where they kept the butterflies. I was standing there, hands in my pockets, and this woman pointed at the butterfly flying near me and said to her baby 'look at that butterfly near that boy'. latter I was sewing while waiting for my mum in the car, and a group of kids coming from school were walking past and one guy said something about me and the other was like "that's a girl u idiot" lol. Back then I wanted to die of mortification that boys had mistaken me for a guy, now I think it's hilarious! Especially that now when people haven't seen me in a while but they knew me when my hair was short/shaved always comment on how long my hair is getting :) That's the real perk of growing my hair long: people contrast it to when it was short. Makes me feel much better about my length now :)

Strangers mostly comment on the color and/or ask how long it is when it's down. Then they want to tell me all about their hair care routine.

I did have a friend once who made me promise that if I ever cut my hair I was to give it to her for her weave.

Older women often tell me they used to have long hair like mine when they were younger, and they always have a fond look on their faces.

I had a rather rude comment way back when when I used to henna asking "is it red all over". I didn't answer, because of course, the answer was no!

I've worked at my current job for 3 months now, and so far I only had my hair down once at work. There is one woman who always comments on my bun styles, and she is also the only person to make a comment the one day I wore it down! She is always very complimentary. She asks me often if my styles take a long time, or if I've had someone do my hair for me that day. As if! The only person I see in the morning before work is my boyfriend, and he can't even make an English braid! Ha ha. People assume that LHC-type hairdos are complicated to make, when most are very easy and quick.

My male co-worker often comments on my hairsticks - "You have sharp things coming out of your head again." LOL!

Really, I never would of have noticed I liked getting compliments untill I read this here. This topic only made me question if I ever did, and for as far as I can remember I did get one last week! Usually I wear my hair in a japanese knot. Most people call me "The Ninja" or "Sumo". I don't mind, but last weak I was wearing my hair loose. I got a new job for about 2 months, and till last week I had my hair in a knot, so at work they had never seen the full length of my hair, and a lady walked up to me last week saying that I had awesome hair and that she would love it if I had my hair loose more often. I guesst that's a great compliment right? haha.

Last hair comment I received was at work a few months ago when it was loose and wavy - someone called it "wild hair" and made booming noises. Thus began my "wear hair up every day at work" experiment. It was all in good fun but I'd much rather they comment on my work, not my hair.

Weirdest comment was two women at a shop, talking together about me - pretending I wouldn't be able to hear them, or what ?? Anyway, the one told "oh but it MUST be extensions !" in a quite condescending, nasty tone. although I usually do not reply to anything not precisely directed at me, this time I had to, and since at the moment I was quite bitter on my hair's not so good condition, all I thought of saying was something like " well I'd hope some extensions would have less split ends and be in better condition, hah !". That was stupid of me, but it closed her mouth down anyway.

Usually mmy hair is wet when I get to school (I'm pretty lazy but thats just me) An one day my friend said "would you please stop that!" and I asked what she was talking about and she said "Letting your hair air dry it makes me so angry because I spend hours making mine do what yours does on its own!" She is a very close friend and I nkow she didn't mean that in a mean way so it made me smile!

This is a fun thread! My surprise comment was, "Is that hair all yours"(question mark) But the best was I went to pick up my bike after a tune up. The owner was acting a little weird and finally he blurted out, "Will you make me a promise~Please don't ever cut your hair!" "It is incredible and so unusual in this day and age". He was cute. Several weeks later he called me for a date. Very flattering. No, I said I wasn't ready to date, in case you wondered.

Over the years I'm received occasional comments such as: "Is that all yours?",
"How long is your hair", "Does it take a long time to put your hair up?".

I haven't heard a nasty or rude comment yet but I'm sure there are a few people out there who don't like my hair :).

A friend once said, 'Hair always looks so boring when it's just... there. Hair never has any 'wow' to it without any style. It looks like you don't care about your appearance.'

I was shocked! Surely long beautiful hair shows that you really DO care about your appearance?Hair like that, that is truly beautiful, as you all know takes a lot of dedication. To me, hair that looks like everyone elses is 'boring'. Everyone seems to have a fringe/bangs, with millions of layers, bleached, dyed hair, and usually no longer than APL.. *sigh*

I sometimes get comments on how dark my hair is, which is odd - I don't think that just the fact that my hair is dark is so unusual. I do get comments on the length (positive usually) when I let it down after dance, mostly because I almost always have it in a bun for class, so some people are surprised to see how long it is.

I work in a convenience store, and I get a lot of customers complimenting the color. (I henna my hair.) I had one guy ask me how I got it this color and I told him that I use henna and he asked me to write it down, because his wife always wanted this color.

"whisper whisper nudge whisper gesture whisper"

I get this from time to time, usually on the bus, as people try to nerve themselves to say something, usually when I am messing with my hair, if I am preening it, and finish with quickly putting it into a bun, that is the prompt for either the "wow!" or the approach or comment. It is kind of cute...kids tend to be more forthright though.

Heh...noticing people catching themselves staring.

I wear my hair up, so the most common question is the "how long IS your hair?" routine. I suspect that some of my acquaintances may wonder why I don't cut my hair, but they are too polite or afraid (o: to ask.

One girl, said she used to have long hair (after the "most common question"), but she said she likes to "fix" it. I assume that means we don't do anything to our hair? I just let it pass! (o:

I would have to agree with you Avvoltoio, I also like it when someone else plays with my hair :)

Huh, the only time I can recall someone asking to touch my hair was from a guy in a psychiatric facility. Usually people just go ahead and touch it if they want to, and then they try to be all sly about it.

I usually also get the "how long have you been growing your hair" questions, to which I always answer, "I don't remember, sometime around birth."

I was with my DH visiting friends who have a little toddler. We were playing with the child, and my DH was stroking my hair. The boy asked "can I do it too?" I thought he meant something to do with the game we were playing, and I said yes, so the boy started stroking my hair. It was so incrediblly sweet, especially that he asked permission!

Answers: we wash it with water. Like everyone else.

Yes, we can brush and braid our own hair. Who knew?

The really silly one I get asked: No, I don't spend a fortune on shampoo. I have long hair, not a big scalp. Shampoo is for the scalp. No matter how long my hair grows it will not affect how much I use. Now, try asking about conditioner. That's a different matter!

What a sweet thread :)

Hmm I got a few comments at my old job. I worked as a cashier in a hardware store in a...not exactly bad neighborhood but let's say, hardworking part of town. So not a place with a lot of femininity.

One man would come in several times a week, always in a hurry, but as he rushed past me to get into the store he would always say to me "Nice braid!" without stopping, whenever I was wearing an English braid.

Every once in a while I would wear a French braid to work and on one occasion the head cashier (a woman nearing retirement age) asked me, "You don't do your braids yourself...do you?" Not in an insulting way but more she was impressed. She said, "It's so straight and even! I used to do French braids for my nieces when they were young but even then they would come out crooked, I couldn't imagine doing it in back of my own head!" I was pretty pleased with myself that day!

I only started on LHC a year ago and even though I've had long hair pretty much all my life, at that time I had never learned how to put my hair up, I couldn't even do an English braid that well! So within a few months I had mastered nice even English braids, and learned to do my own French braids and other styles so I was really proud that someone noticed. :)

And a different day not too long after that a customer said to me "Did you do that yourself? I've tried but it always comes out with the braid sitting on top." So I explained to her briefly about how it makes a difference whether you cross the strands over or under and I think in the end she said it was all too complicated for her but she thought it was really neat that I could do it.

Odd though I haven't really gotten any hair comments at my new job yet although when I was wearing my new hairstick last week with a dangle (not something you see around here!) I got a lot of comments on that :)

One time I was sitting in a hotel restaurant in Morocco with my hair hanging over the back of my chair, and a man who worked there came up behind me, gently grabbed most of my hair with both hands, and lifted it up and started kissing it while complimenting me in Arabic. In retrospect I suppose it was flattering, but at the time I was so confused that I couldn't think of anything to say but thanks.

I always get people making comments about how I must spend a fortune on shampoo, and I love how horrified they all look when I tell them I use Suave.

I've also had people ask if my hair is real, and that I could use it to strangle someone, which was a bit creepy.

I get the nicest comments from the old ladies, too, as several people have mentioned. I work in care, and a few of my regulars are really fascinated by my updos - "do you do your hair yourself?" and suchlike - I never have my hair "down" at work. On the rare occasion I wear a braid, I really get some attention!

I've just remembered an elderly Irish nun I used to care for. She was a temperamental and fussy little thing, and I used to intentionally wear my hair in a braid when I went to see her because she loved it so much that it distracted her and put her in a lovely mood. One of her many bizarre compliments included that having such long hair should make me strong and healthy! (My hair was barely waistlength at the time, and I assure you it didn't!)

Years ago, when I was getting my second ever salon cut (my mother always cut my hair, up until I was about 11-12), the stylist told me "Never dye your hair, you've got a great colour." It made me blush at the time :)

About 2 or 3 weeks ago, a (male) stranger approached me and asked how long my hair was (it was in a cinnamon bun). He said that he doesn't usually see buns with more than one coil. This made me smile - I don't usually get to discuss hair with men!

I was at a friend's art studio for an afternoon of dance lessons, talking, hooping, eating, etc. Unusually, I wore my hair down. When it came time for the dance lesson, I whipped it up into an infinity bun.

As I was getting it into place, the instructor kind-of narrated "Blue_nant puts up her mile-long hair!"

Such a nice thread. :) A few days ago I was cashiering, (I don't do it as much different position at work) and one of my regulars came in. He is an American Indian and he said "There is my braid girl!" His braids are amazing. I was so happy he thought my braid was nice.
The stock boys are obsessed with my using 2 hair sticks. One is just wrong because you always get 2 chopsticks. :D They crack me up. One of them insists I never cut my hair.

LOL, that does sound pretty interesting. Did she seem embarrassed after she said it? Sometimes, I admit, I will say things that just pop into my head before my self-censoring can kick in.:o

If that was the case, she was probably kicking herself on the way home. Saying, "Oh my God! I can't believe that fell out of my mouth, I am such a goob. Darkmartin probably thinks I am a stalker now."

Or...
Or........
Maybe, she DOES want to use your hair as a blanket.;)

Last week when I dropped into the supermarket for some milk, I realised as I was approaching the front doors that I'd forgotten the green bags and asked hubby if he would mind going back to the car to get them. When he found me again, he said a lady pulled him up as he turned back to the car and told him that his "wife and daughter's hair looks so lovely with all the ribbons and things in it". Mine was just braided and wrapped into a cinna bun with a head band, my daughters was braided with ribbons weaved into it. It made my day and I think hubby was pretty chuffed as well.

This wasn't by a stranger, but it was still odd - my husband said my hair "doesn't look so stressed out," and looks "more like hair now." I guess my new care for it is showing.

When I dyed my hair rainbow in 2009, the rumors went flying that "a rainbow-haired girl was in JDHS. Who is she?" Anyway, after one of my classes, one person passed me, looked at me and said, "Skittles: wear the rainbow!" I just broke out laughing and told some friends in sixth period. They joined in the laughing with me, but now I never hear the end of it.

i find men with long hair to be attractive, so even though those compliments were amusing. i think i can tell if someone is a man or woman whether they have long hair or not. its called being observant and really looking ( and i dont mean staring, just mean like attempt to have a conversation with the person or say hello) , not just glancing and guessing

Actually no she didnt. She seemed fairly comfortable being flirtatious to tell you the truth. :D
She didnt strike me as the kind of girl that would regret having said what she did. So I asked her if she was cold....she said yes. I then commenced to pour the hot chocolate I was drinking over her head. lol.....

When I was younger people used to always ask me if my hair was dyed or a weave. I have natural red hair. Guess it just has that bottled look, but at least they said the color was pretty. Best hair compliment ever: I tossed my hair over a bus seat one day and my friend told be is was a cascade of beautiful red curls. :) Still makes me smile even though it's been years.

"It looks like you're wearing a shawl" to

many years ago while visiting Yosemite, someone behind me at an open air church service whispered "Cousin ITT!!!". I smiled to myself because to my way o thinkin', Cousin Itt had a gorgeous head of thick, beautiful hair!

When someone meets me for the first time, the first thing they say is always about my hair! Sometimes it's nice having people talking about your hair, but many times, when they ask you the typical "Aren't you ever going to cut it?'", it's a bit of a pain in the neck, actually...:(

I love the "how do you wash your hair!?" question XD I usually answer "well, I generally use shampooo... followed by conditioner... oh, and there's some rinsing involved here and there... ... how do you wash yours?" Acting like I have no idea what they mean haha

My favorite comment (I've already mentioned it on LHC before) was when I was in a craft store buying fake flowers & leaves, and wearing a flowy dress and I feel a little *tug tug* on my hair, which was down & in braid waves. I turned to look and see a little girl in a shopping cart staring up at me and she asks "are you a farie?" Her mother was mortified that he'd pulled my hair and whisked her away apologising profusely and reprimanding her. I wish she'd given me a chance to respond, I would've leaned in and whispered "close... I'm a mermaid!" But they were gone too quickly :/ I imagine I must've looked funny standing there with my mouth open hugging a bundle of artificial flowers! Haha

Well the guy who sort of complimented my hair last night wasn't actually a total stranger. I was having a bar night with my friend and her friends (who I met for the firs time, but who weren't strangers after that :) ) and at some point I was sitting in this one guys lap. I wore my hair half up half down and the guy asked if he could play with my hair... First time someone has asked :D
Because I'm not so into him I replied that I didn't let anybody actually play my hair (which isn't quite true, but still) :)

Today I went to the (local chain second hand store) with friends in hopes of a "two-dollar Thursday" score, but I saw myself in the window on the way in and was a bit nervous about being a disheveled longhair in public. I had been too tired today to detangle my hair and bun it and last night's braid was slowly falling out from the top, and was so feathered it splayed outward by at least eight inches on my shoulder and looked awfully tangly, so I just took the braid down. As I was doing so, one of the cashiers complimented green Holy Clothing dress, which made me feel a little better about things. I gave it a cursory finger comb and proceeded to try to avoid every hanger in the store.

First while looking at skirts on lady came up to me and said, "Oh my gosh, look at that hair! It's just like my sister's, well one sister, the other has hair all over out to here! *miming with hands and making coiling motions with her fingers* but not long. Oh, your dress is nice, there was one like it over here! You look like a hippy so I bet you'd like it." (It was two sizes too small, and only vaguely anything like my dress, but a sweet thought.)

Later I was crossing the store with my friend and turned to comment on something to Snuggles, who I thought was following right behind us. A teenaged or early twenty-something woman stops dead in her tracks behind (now in front of) me and turns red. "Sorry-- just... your hair is so long! It was mesmerizing me and I got distracted. It's really cool!"

We ended up not catching anything on the two dollar color tag, but one friend got an incredibly gorgeous, new with original $150 pricetag, evening gown that fits like a glove for a tenth of the original cost. :D

It was a good day to be out.

Last comment on this thread has been a while, but I had a funny interaction with an almost stranger. I went to see my derm the other day for a skin screening. For the scalp examination I had to take down my hair, so I did a bun drop and the doctor genuinely celebrated my hair: "Wow, incredible, so much hair!" And while she combed through the hair to check my scalp she said: "Your hair is so thick. I can't see a thing. I hardly ever see hair this thick. Have you ever thought about being a hair model? You should try that!" I had to laugh and told her not with my fairytale ends lol.

I get more comments on the colour, I have some purple highlights but my hair used to be entirely purple, I also get compliments on my waves. If someone says they like my hair I don't usually ask why specifically. A few young guys have asked me if I'm a fan of a football team who wear purple - I'm not. The biggest compliment was when I was waiting with my son to get his phone fixed at a shopping centre, a hairdresser from the store opposite came over and said "I love your hair, we've all been looking at it"

V-90....Unfortunately, you're not the only one. Especially as a guy who isn't a teenager any more, plus my folks were pretty conservative....the first time I grew it out she would regularly comment(even though I lived 100 miles away) that she thought I was limiting myself, etc.... Also, the STBX (soon to be ex) wasn't a fan of anything but a regular man's cut. well...waited til mom wasn't able to tell me (she also passed away last November) and the wife couldn't say anything about it that I cared....I started again in Feb 2020.

Now you are among peers and friends that treasure you for wanting what those around you find....uhhh....un-charming. It's what you want or need for yourself that matters. Not suggesting this, but use their attitudes as a motivator for your own wishes and to keep strong doing what you want. There are a lot of people out there that find long hair awesome? anyone else out there want to back me up on that????lol

Yes, totally! I get stared at a lot for it, even though it isn't long by LHC standards, but long for my local community standards. I once walked my dog with my hair out in the wind and I swear some guy followed me around and used his dog as an excuse to come over and say hello. Long hair is quite eye-catching and appreciated. People who are negative toward it are bitter or jealous imo.
I think most people don't give a damn about someone's hair. They either think it looks good or they don't and if they don't like it they're not going to comment on it because it's not their business anyway. They might uncounciously know that complimenting someone for it can make their day better though so if they like it they're more likely to make comments on it than if they hate it. People who hate on it are often not the kind of people I'd make friends with anyway because it can be a major red flag that these are some nasty people.

I actually received more comments on my hair when it was shoulder-length; with a number of strangers having come up to me to say that I look like Oscar Wilde, and I have been mistaken for a music conductor more times than I can remember.

At the longer lengths, the comments are generally negative, stuff like "Get a haircut you ******* hippy!" and the like, but the more usual homophobic comments can crack me up and make my day when I feel like responding to them: in response to things like "Are you a *** or something?" It is quite amusing to try to put on the most pleasant/sexy voice I can muster, respond with "Why yes, I am", look them up and down with a slight smile forming at the corners of my mouth, and then wink at them. I have never seen loud obnoxious men stop talking, turn pale, and run away so fast, ha ha ha ha.

Kids can be cute; some have thought I was wearing a wig, and another told me that my hair makes me look like a vampire.

Today at work, just before heading home, my bun started to unwind, so a colleague warned me I was about to loose my hairpin when I passed her to go insode to get my stuff. I said thanks and took the fork out, because I was about to braid my hair anyway. On the stairs, I heard another colleague exclaim "Wow, her hair got so long! Wow!" It sounded like a genuine, heartfelt shout of surprise/disbelief, not just a neutral observation  All of my colleagues see me with a braid pretty often, but hardly ever with my hair fully down.

When I was younger... must have been in college... my mom and I were at a store and for some reason she had gone to get the car and I was waiting with the cart for her to come with the car to pick me up (maybe we bought something too large to lug out to the parking lot?). A guy approached me and said my hair was pretty, etc. Asked if he could heft my braid. Then said he does hair photography and I should contact him if I was ever interested in having him take pictures of my hair.

At the time I just thought it was a bit amusing. In the years since, I've realized how creepy it was (especially since when I was younger, I looked really young. I had people thinking I was under 18 into my late 20s. So in my early 20s, I probably looked like I was in high school or younger. Ick :disgust: ). I've always wished that at the time, rather than thinking it was just a weird-but-harmless interaction, that I'd acted cold or told him off and certainly not allowed him to touch my hair*. *cringe* :shudder: :run:

*At least he didn't do anything really creepy like stroke it or anything; he just picked it up for a moment. And he didn't have a super-creepy vibe, so maybe that's why it didn't weird me out at the time. But still. In hindsight... yeah, that's weird.

I sat in front of a former hairdresser during a seminar the other day. My hair was in an, admittedly very shredded, english braid. It was braided almost to the end, so the last part was pretty tapered. So she mimicked scissors with her fingers, caught my braid in between, made a snipping sound and said: "This is where you have to cut it off." It was part of some banter that went back and forth, so I didn't take it too hard, but I was reminded again why I avoid professional hairdressers lol. They would probably cut my hair back to waist if I'd give them free reign.

Pfffft that sounds about right, it's like a mental block -I've had a hairdresser say "oh it's so long and healthy" and then seconds later "to get rid of alllll the dead ends you'll need to chop off ~enough to bring me back to bsl~". It's like they never deal with hair any longer than that so it's just so far out of their comfort zone that they must chop :p

I've had two people in the last week tell me that they really liked my hair. One asked me how long it took to grow and said it looked so healthy from roots to tips (that made my day) - this was after a workout mind you with serious braid shred. The second said they were impressed by my hair when they first saw me take it down, which feels very validating, it's long enough to be impressive by normie standards :p

Eek! I'm glad it didn't bother you, I might have said something I shouldn't in that situation :p

I chuckle every time someone says "dead ends". I know it's a figure of speech and most of them know that all hair is dead, but to literally chop off all the "dead" pieces... you'd have to buzz, technically ;)

I've never gotten compliments on my long hair by strangers, but I have noticed I get waaay more attention if I'm out and about with my hair down instead of up in a bun.

The other day I was at the grocery store of my village, paying for some food at the counter, whith my knee length hair in a braid.
There was a bunch of teenage girls in the street, who were busy taking pictures of the shop from afar, and the cashier asked me if I knew what they were up to.
I threw a glance through the window and saw several of them taking pictures with their smartphones, and I first thought there was a problem outside. But the next customer behind me said they were trying to take pictures of my hair, lol.

Not really a compliment per se, but I'll take it as such !

I get compliments on my hair often when it is up in my Edwardian Pouf, in the grocery store, on the street in meetings. Once I asked what they liked and they said everything. I usually have it in a fork or stick.

My boyfriend and I were chased out of best buy once by an old lady who wanted to tell us we have beautiful hair. lol
Otherwise we're mostly left alone. I get a good amount of compliments on my color (henna'd over brown) My boyfriend gets "great hair bro!" has also gotten the "....are you a boy or a girl?" from kids before their parents get so embarrassed and apologize but he thinks it's funny for the most part.

Not a comment on my current hair, really, but I was talking to a friend today who is bored with wearing her ~APL hair the same way every day and was asking about some of the different updos I wear on a regular basis. I mentioned that I learned a lot of them when I had long hair in high school, and she asked how long it was back then. When I said it was a little past hip, she was like "whoa!"

It's so interesting how different LHC long is vs. normal people long where I live! :p

A lady in the store said that my bun (nautilus with stick) gave her witchy vibes, in a good way. I don’t know but I liked that comment maybe because I aspire a mystical look.

"You're gay, right ?"

It was when my lengths were pink, and as you know, LGBTQ people often dye their hair hahaha. And I'm, in fact, queer, so it was really funny !

Had a birthday party this Saturday where, because they suddenly played some hard rock and an aunt of mine encouraged it, I let my hair loose for some headbanging. When I was done she suddenly says I have really pretty hair, especially the color. The reason I thought it was interesting was because she used to give me sh*t for even wanting to grow it long because she thought it would look unkempt.

This isn't really an "interesting" compliment, but it sure made my day! I was dropping off some donations at a thrift store, and one of the workers said to me, "Wow, that's some gorgeous hair you have!" It made my day so bright and cheerful! It's the little things. ;-)

For the first time in my life someone asked me this question. "Is that your natural curl in your hair?" And I said, "Yes it is." I'm 46 years old. The first time!!! Thanks LHC!!

I was talking to someone last week at work that I've only met a few times. My hair is always in a bun at work but this time my hair fork slid out and as i crouched to retrieve it my hair tumbled down. I got a jaw drop and she exclaimed, " I had no idea your hair was so long! It's beautiful!" She made my whole day.

I was at the dentist a few days a ago and the dental hygienist (is that the correct word in English?) almost wispered "Beautiful braid", when she saw my braid.

Once in the gas station a dude walked up and said "I'm not trying to make you feel uncomfortable but you have the best hair in the city!" So, not the state then? LMBO It was nice; it made my day.

I had short hair for a long time, and now it mostly stays in a bun because it's easier that way. Every once in a while, I let it down in front of people who knew me with short hair and they exclaim some version of, "holy expletive your hair has gotten so long!" The funny part is my hair doesn't even feel long, since I spend too much time looking wistfully at CL+ lengths...

Not from a stranger, but I was a houseguest with a family I don't know very well this past Friday evening. Everybody was getting ready for bed; I had taken a shower and was sitting in the living room rebraiding my hair while chatting with the wife. The husband walked through the living room on his way to his bedroom, saying very quickly as he went "Good night, [wife's name], good night, Shelomit, love the hair!"

Finally got the "Are you donating it?" question that we all dread... Not because my hair was down and worthy of commenting but my coworker had randomly told someone that I had "super long hair" and they wanted to know how long it was and why it was so long. I just smiled and said "Not yet."

A woman in my class who sits behind me also told me my bun was beautiful and that she loves my hair piece (it was a flexi with a butterfly) so that was really nice! I don't think anyone's ever noticed my hair toys before, that I can remember.

Same thing here! I rarely get comments about my hairtoys, but I was recently wearing my butterfly flexi and my sister practically shouted at me how beautiful it was. I wonder if it's the same one :p

At the nail salon today, the nail tech was really impressed with my Nessa bun. She asked if I did it myself and I told her yes. I said I was getting my nails done for a wedding and she asked if it was my own, again referencing my hair. I guess it looked fancy somehow! Now I'm contemplating why I'm bothering to do a carefully braided style if my 10 second Nessa bun is passable for a wedding

Once a bus driver told me my hair was longer than me and asked me how long it was in cm. He assumed it was more or less 1m (it was around my knees).
Some people are curious about the lenght like in cm, I don't know what they need that information for.
I weighed my hair once a guy was insisting the hair must weight a lot...
(I was late so I jumped with my hair down with the idea that I would braid on board)

I went fishing really early yesterday morning, then caught breakfast at the local greasy spoon. Everybody else there at that hour was a man in his seventies or better ( ; The fellow sitting next to me remarked that it must take a lot of effort to take care of my hair. (I had it down in two braids, sticking out from my headscarf.) I told him that no, I mostly get away with just ignoring it, wash it every once in a while and detangle it every once in a while. Nice interaction, and I got to eat an English muffin, which I love but never think to make or buy for myself ( ;

I've been told a few times already that if I let my hair grow any longer, I'm going to look like a Jesus worshipper or like I'm in a cult. We'll see. I did indeed get confused for a "church sister" when I had hip length hair and was wearing a long skirt before. lol
