I have tried the Nautilus bun a few times and I just can't get the hang of it, I know other people my length can do this hairstyle but I give up because it is making me frustated to do it even after watching videos :(, I will wait till my hair is longer and then maybe I can do it better.

So anyone have any suggestions for a very simple bun, that is easy to do and good for APL-BSL hair?

All I can do is the sock bun. :D I have short hair!

The lazy wrap is very easy i could do that one when my hair was APL .Are you using sticks?

I've been doing the wrapped hairstick bun since shoulder. I think FrannyG has the official tutorial around here.

I do a Pencil Bun (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0k3dD4qX34) ... each and every day. It's my favorite and it's quick and simple. That said, be prepared to practice, practice, practice whatever bun you try. It can take quite a few attempts (for me, that's upwards of 50 tries) for the fingers to "learn" it and get it right.

How about this one (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/vbjournal.php?do=article&articleid=138)?

I see you have iii hair - that might be the problem. There are quite a few threads around with updo suggestions for those with thick/"shorter" hair :)

I'd second pixna suggestion of the pencil bun which is also one of my favourites.:D I noticed that your hair is a iii and you may find that a lot of buns will be harder for you to do until you get some more length, at least that is what I found to be the case.

Ah, you've got iii hair... That might be tough at APL-BSLish. You might not have much luck with buns before you're past BSL.

Eadwine's 10sec quick bun (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W0YIyUGn2pI) might work with your hair. It's similar to the nautilus, but a little less wrapping.

Otherwise, there are sock buns. You'll definitely be able to do sock buns.

Thanks for everyone for the links and suggestions I am glad that I have hair atleast long enough to do a bun:). I feel though, whatever hairstyle I do it turns out messy, all I can do is a ponytail, can't even do a plait properly, which is ridiculous!:o. They all sound so interesting but I will need to repeat one hairstyle many times, to get it right. I will see which one works out best for me. I don't have much hair accessories but I do have the basics, which should be enough. I am a slow learner when it comes to styling my own hair.

No wonder the nautilus won't work for you if you've got such thick hair ;) My hair's around three inches longer than yours and I just have ii, and I can't get it to work either :p More length is what I need.

I second the recommendation for the pencil bun. It's nice and easy and I do it often. The only problem is that I find it pretty easy to make it too tight, but then you just have to redo it until it's comfy. :D

I have BSL hair that's pretty thick. I can do the sock bun, the lazy bun, and a french twist. I'm waiting for a couple more inches to try the nautilus and the hypno buns. I REALLY can't wait til I can do the figure 8 :) I was so excited when I could FINALLY get the lazy bun right, I think it's my go-to updo. It definitely takes practice and patience, but you can do it! :)

The easiest bun in the world for all lengths is the scrunchie bun. Just twist your hair until it coils, then coil it more and wrap the ends under the base and then secure with a scrunchie. Heres a photo of my hair in a scrunchie bun at just past apl and that was a henna gloss!

I'm roughly at the same length as you, though I have ii hair rather than iii. My hair is also very slick, so sticks aren't working so well right now. What I have done so far that works: sock buns, a bun with the Scunci Hair Accessory Magic Bun (http://www.amazon.com/Scunci-Hair-Accessory-Magic-quickly/dp/B003901MSW/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1289408982&sr=8-3) (which I found at Claire's), buns with bun cages (more sturdy for me than just hair sticks), and I have a Goody (or maybe Scunci) claw clip from Walmart that is very large & rounded that holds my hair quite securely without any pins. I also found that putting a little aloe in the length to be bunned helps tremendously with keeping it in place & preventing those darn little pieces that stick out.
