View Full Version : What's the longest that you've ever gone without a haircut?

So, I had my last haircut on May 21, of this year. I've had short hair for a while now, and after the haircut, my hair was probably about 3 inches long. Anyway, I've decided I'm growing my hair long, forever. I've had enough with short hair. It's been almost 6 months now since I've cut my hair (and, happily, my hair is about 6 inches long now... still short but better, it's to my mouth at the front and equally long all over). My hair is still is very good condition, I have no splits at all! I know it's advised to cut your hair every 6-8 weeks or so, but that's obviously not at all true. What's the longest you've ever been without a haircut? How was the condition of your hair? I'm thinking of waiting until May 2011 (1 full year), before I go in, and have my hair cut more one-length. Thanks!
Oooh, and Happy Hallowe'en!

I haven't cut my hair in a year and 4 months but I do plan on getting a trim in a few months just to even up the bottom.

I just realized, I didn't even answer my own question :p
The longest I've ever been without a haircut is 10 months.
Hopefully I'll lengthen that time. I want to go a long time without cutting my hair. I don't know why. The idea just seems nice, haha!

I decided to do a no trim challenge, with S&D's, for one year. It "worked" to gain length but since my hair was heavily layered and the ends were damaged I found myself hating the ends more and more.

Now I am currently trimming whenever necessary and to remove damaged ends. I will evaluate the effects of a trimming every 6 months in May next year. :) It seems clear the healthier your hair is the longer you can go without trimming, unless you prefer an even hemline.

It'll be two years on November 10th. I haven't done anything with my hair -- it has just been growing. My ends aren't dry at all and I've yet to find a split end but… you never know. :] I hope I don't jinx myself bragging. LOL!

I think the longest I've gone was about 2 years... maybe 2 1/2. I don't really remember, it was more of a laziness thing than a not wanting to thing. And the ends were really damaged after that, but it was also pre-LHC so I didn't know how to take care of it.

I think how long you "can" go between trims has a lot to do with your individual hair. My hair splits like crazy, so I usually try to trim a little bit every 3 months or so. And by "Trim" I mean maybe 1/4" dusting, which I do myself, I'm not going to pay a stylist to cut 1/4" off my ends. If I go too much longer than that, I end up having to cut off more damage. I know that there are people on here that haven't cut their hair in years and still have nice blunt ends. There are also people here who don't trim and have the most beautiful fairy tale ends. They don't work for me (my hair is fine and blonde, it just looks like my hair is faded into stringy nothing) but there are several members here who they are absolutely STUNNING on.

So, basically, let your hair tell you when the trim is needed. Don't go by anyone else's schedule. I say 3 months for mine, but really I mean "when the splits get so bad I can't S&D them anymore"

Probably nine months is the longest I've gone. Right now I'm at two months, and I'm planning on stretching that as long as I can, but as soon as my ends start to feel unpleasant, they're getting chopped. Sorry if that's like...blasphemy here....

There are already "no trimming" and "benign neglect" threads, which you might find useful.

Whether no cutting, no trimming works for you depends on your hair and how you feel about a degree of untidiness, whether you can tolerate the number of split ends you get and so on.

To answer your orginal question, 16 years, 4 months, 6 days. I have concentrated on trying to eliminate split ends through good care, and as my hair is wavy and always looks untidy when loose, unevenness doesn't really matter.

Good luck with your quest!

I haven't had an actual hair cut since August 2007, having been doing microtrims every three or four months for the last year or so to keep the ends clean of splits. Seems to be working so far.

Trims? I went about 2-3 years without one.
Cut? Last cut was 8 years ago, from tailbone to waist.
Cut in a salon? Never had one.

When I was 13, I cut my hair into a very short pixie hair style and loved it....for the first few weeks only. I started to resent short hair so much that I didn't cut my hair for the next 2 or more years! My hair was past BSL by age 15. It grew like crazy and was very thick, I don't think it was damaged from not cutting, in fact I loved it a lot..

The last time a had a haircut was May 2010. I haven't cut since. I went frome almost BSL to sholderlength. Now I would like to grow it back again but now in a healthy way.
I don't have any splitends at the moment.

The longest (that I can remember) was two years ago, I went 7 months without having a "real" hair trim other than S&D and trying it by myslef. BIG MISTAKE: my hair was full of split ends and I gradually would have to cut off 2 inches at a time.

I went three years without a cut or trim. Taking me from maybe shoulder length to hip length. I think that took me from age 13 to 16. I wore it down all the time but never heat styled. I didn't have that many splits but quite a lot of velcro ends. I just got bored one day and chopped to arm pit length. Worst decision I ever made!

Over three years now. Still think it is too short.

To answer your original question, 16 years, 4 months, 6 days.
My last haircut was in the late 80s, my last significant trim was in the early 90s(?) Been at terminal for years now...S&D only.

When i was between 16 and 17 years old, left my hair alone for a year and several months. then after that had my mum cut it to shoulder and pretty much have kept it shoulder to APL. My last trim was sept '10 planning on no trim until march '11 that'll be six months growth and my year anniversary at The LHC.

My last cut was in May 2010 to get rid of some layering which I still have going on but I'm not going to cut or trim for awhile... maybe a few years, I dunno yet! :D Time will tell!

I haven't had a trim since August. My ends are ridiculously damaged, but I've been doing a S&D every time I've had a chance. I do need to go in for an actual trim though, to straighten the ends.

I used to go for a trim every 4 months back when I was growing out my hair 2 years ago. My last cut was Over two weeks ago and the only parts of my hair that feel dry are the ends where my peekaboos were. I'm so temped to have them cut but I want to wait. The ends aren't split...just thirsty.

Can't remember exactly, but it was spring. So most likely in March or April. I had a color appt in July, but we did not cut. It still looked healthy and we were out of time. Now I think I need a trim, but have to wait til I can afford her prices. LOL
