So I have decided to start documenting my hair experiments with my camera... and not just photos - VIDEO!!
(this could be bad! :p)
So here are two links for a video I just made like 2 minutes ago.. I've just used my normal digital camera, and it is balancing on top of a hairspray bottle! (don't worry its DBF's brothers hairspray not mine!)
Don't mind the blurryness and I have no idea what that noise is??

Has anyone ever done this before?? How did it turn out?

I believe it's this method from the articles: http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/vbjournal.php?do=article&articleid=82

It looks rather cool by itself though :P I only have experience with rag curls.. which always turn out crooked when I do it.

You will have to post a picture of the results... I've never tried that method but would love to see how it turns out.

Yes Mirsha I did take the idea from that article which was linked to me.. however I wasn't reading through it as I did it and I think I did it wrong because it looks NOTHING like hers!!! Video's in a minute :D

I just went to Lincraft (australian fabric store) and bought the minimum of 20cm of fabric which cost me like $1.50 and made plenty of strips...

Ok I just took a look at that thread where I got the idea from... I did it completely wrong.. Oh well - its all about experimenting!

I have done this :) It worked pretty well - the waves stayed in all day! I did my sections a little larger than yours, because I wanted waves (wasn't convinced my hair could hold curl :p). There are pictures in my album, if you're interested. Can't wait to see how it turns out!

I've been wanting to try this. Have you done pin curls? I love them- no heat, and they keep it soft and shiny. When I've tried rag curls, they frizz to no end.

I've tried pin curls but I think I have too much hair for it to work?? (you mean like how Marilyn Monroe used to curl her hair??) But I love curling my hair with a paper bag.. works perfectly every time.. Might do a tutorial on that when I get time to.. (always looks best 2 days afterwards..)

I thought that, but I didn't like to say anything. :o

I think you just found an alternative way to crimp hair too :cheese:

I wasn't able to watch your vids with sound so I subscribed to your channel to remind me to watch the whole thing when I can.

Thanks for posting this! I tried it as well and ended up with similar "crimpie" results. However, I assumed my layered just past APL hair was too short for this method. Can anybody advise me? also, due to my slick straight hair, if I don't rubber band it to the fabric, (as in, just banding the two ends of the fabric as in the picture on the link) my hair just slips undone. ho hum, I don't know where I am going wrong. looks beautiful when done correctly, though!

I tried the actual method twice, once with 4 sections, which came out super super curly. I liked it though. I have a post of the curly curly looking hair around here somewhere..

Tried it again last week with only two sections. I used clean socks instead of rags (dont have rags atm), mom walked in and laughed and said I looked like pippi longstocking. Heh. anyway, it turned out more like the pictures in the article with only two sections.

I personally think the crimped version looks quite nice myself.

ETA: My thread with its pics: http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=38935

and after watching your videos, I found that using only two of them like I did the second time (i'll do it again with pics some day) was much more comfortable, but thats because I'm a side sleeper. It was like sleeping with two english braids,I just put them behind me and it was perfectly comfortable.

ETA ETA: Thicker sections of cloth would probably help give the waves more definition, the cloth sections in the article are huuuge compared to the ones I used the first time and the ones you used.

Hehe.. well I know how we'll all do our hair the next time we go to an 80's party!!

Socks! What a great idea!
The crimped one is too hard to style for my liking - unless I was going to a dress up 1980's party or something...

ahh I see! I would probably do 3 so as not to get the part down the back which my hair will hold on to all day! (never sits nice) But they look really good and I'll have to give it a go! Thank-you!
