So, I hear all this good stuff about keratin treatments that can be done at the salon.. but they're like, $300 D:. So then, I go to my WalMart, and lo and behold, CHI makes a Keratin spray that you leave in your hair. It's light and doesn't seem to cake or anything like some oily sprays.
The label reads 'leave-in strengthening treatment'. Has anyone used this and found that your hair is stronger? As a result, have you experience less breakage and, overall, healthier hair? For once, I didn't spend my OWN money on this product, so if it doesn't work.. well.. eh, oh well :) hehe.
ETA: CHI is spelt with one i. Heh. Didn't know that.

I was looking at that in my local drugstore. If I recall correctly, it's basically a mixture of 'cones and proteins (that happen to be derived from keratin). No word on whether the proteins are a size that the hair shaft can absorb or not. As I understand it the $300 keratin treatment involves keratin, plus heat and chemicals to fuse the keratin to your hair.

I stay away from proteins mostly. Though if you are going to be using the Chi itself it's probably better to have some sort of spray protectant in your hair. If someone likes proteins and cones, this might be very good for them tho. I love cones myself but protein makes my hair crunchy and crappy :)

My sister-in-law uses this and swears by it. She said this really helped her hair, she said she has less breakage now and her hair feels lot thicker and healthier, and her stylist noticed, too.
Considering that glowing review, I went out and tried it, but I didn't notice any sort of difference really other than velcro ends, as my hair doesn't need protein. If your hair craves protein, it might be worth a shot. :)

I'm not sure but I saw that at Wal-Mart too... was very tempted to get it but was a bit pricey for me to just take a chance.
Let me know if you get good results so i can go spend my money on it!!! :D

I have the CHI Keratin Mist.
My hair isn't really damaged or anything so I didn't notice much benefit.
It did make my hair a bit fluffy and fly away.
It might work better for people with damaged or at least chemically processed hair?

I don't know about the Chi, but I have a big bottle of Ion Keratin Treatment. It differs in that you put it on in the shower (after shampoo) and leave it on for 10 min, then rinse out.
I've used it about 3 times so far, and really like it. (I washed todaay and didn't use it, though, and kinda wish I had.) I wasn't sure whether my hair liked protein or not, but it appears to, which is good since I have such a big bottle! It leaves my hair really, really silky and soft, and it *feels* stronger and healthier. I got my bottle at Sally's for about $10 and would definitely repurchase.

I've only been using it for a few days so far, and I'm unsure of how my hair feels about protein.. but it doesn't feel really crunchy or angry, or too much different at all yet. It is dyed and the ends are damaged, but they don't feel particularly worse or better.. although, they seem to have more body. So that's a plus :p.

YES, I use this all the time now. It came recommended by a long hair expert. I use it on dry hair only. It will be great in the coming winter months. I use it on the last 12-18" only.
I would not recommend the Keratin treatment done in salons!

Just a warning, did you buy it at the wal-mart salon or in the regular aisle where they sell hair stuff? If you see professional products on the shelves of places like Wal-mart, K-Mart, Walgreens, CVS, Rite Aid, etc. they aren't the real deal. Chi, Paul Mitchell, Redken, Matrix Biolage and other brands like that are only distributed to professional salons and supply stores like Ulta. What you have may be a black market product or has been tampered with or watered down in some way. I know Paul Mitchell has a number on their site to report their products being sold where they shouldn't. Professional line products do not distribute to stores like those.
The Chi Keratin treatment is basically a pure protein spray. if your hair craves protein, then great! If not you may want to skip it. I much prefer the Chi silk infusion, it's a coney serum but does protect your hair and soften and smooth it to prevent any tangles.

I think that's just a scare tactic used by salon brands...All that is required to purchase salon brands is a cosmetologist's license. Obviously chain stores have found ways around that, they buy in bulk from warehouses or purchase unsold overstock. TJ Maxx gets all kinds of salon brands from Macy's and such. I would have no problem buying a salon brand from CVS or Walmart.

Hmm, I'm confused about this. Target has an entire aisle now dedicated to professional products that is constantly stocked in every Target I've been to at least for the last year or so. This can't all be fake or black market, can it?? I've noticed a section for professional products in multiple CVSs, too, and this includes Paul Mitchell as well as Tigi, Chi, Bumble & Bumble, etc. And the pricey independent drug store in the building where I used to work definitely sold professional and high-end products, including Deva and T3 blow dryers and Creative seamless combs and all manner of fancy styling product. I don't understand - I can't imagine that this stuff shouldn't all be there.

Yep, right off the aisle :p. I think it's the real deal, of course I'm no profession so I can't tell, but you'd think as big of a store as WalMart is, if it was cheating people out of it or selling it 'illegally' they'd be caught red handed by now.

No, I honestly don't think people are sitting in some factory somewhere, watering down professional salon shampoos and conditioners :)
It's an old scare tactic back from the 80's when people really had no access to salon shampoos outside of a salon.
