I'm wondering how others do this. What do you cover you head with so you don't get oil all over you pillow? I usually use a shower cap, but I'm wondering if there's a better option.

I made a double sided silk/thick flannel sleep cap that gets washed frequently. I never get oil stains with the amount of oil that I use.

I don't cover my head with anything. All the same, I really don't heavily oil my scalp. It's primarily the length, which is always kept in a braid while I sleep. My pillow's not any bit the worse for wear, either. :D In my defense my hair loves the coconut oil I use on it, and if I just oil normally (not heavily) it absorbs it happily. Even if it's what I consider a heavy oiling, my braid stays happy and my pillow seems to stay safe.

I just use a regular sleep cap, but I don't oil super heavily, just enough to make my hair greasy and limp. I haven't had any problems with leaking through the cap.

I'm a silk-user as well, so I don't cover my head with anything. Those silk pillow cases doesn't tend to get stained. :)

I heavy oil the same way Gumball does it. Just put coconut oil on my length/ends, braid it and off to Bedfordshire! ;)

I drape a towel over the pillow case.....on the upside though, the few times that I didn't, the oil came out easily when the pillowcase was washed.....

I use a cotton scarf/cloth to tie my head with. I also wash my pillow covers frequently.

Silk scarf. I wash it frequently as well as my pillow, and I don't really oil too heavily, just enough to have it soaking but not dripping. :)

I don't cover my hair. I don't use my good pillowcases. Oil comes out if you launder in hot water with a good detergent and let them soak a while before starting the wash cycle.

Only do it the night before I change the sheets!

If I'm doing a light oil, I don't really worry about it. If I'm doing a heavy oil on the ends, I put my hair in a braid, put the oil in a zip-top baggie, put my ends in the baggie, and then wrap a hair elastic tight-tight-tight around the baggie which is around my hair. Never have I had a problem with it coming off.

I'm a silk pillowcase user too, it's not something that's ever been an issue really. I oil my hair so it's soaked/stringy but nowhere near dripping (for pre-wash, anyway, for light oilings I don't worry about it).

I keep the oil away from scalp (which is oily enough all on its own) and make a braid coming from the top of my head. Getting an oily pillowcase has never been much of a problem.

I've noticed that, too. I mean maybe it's the material, or maybe it's just luck. The only marring on my satin pillowcases are from the cat's claws when I haven't trimmed them and she wants to knead.

I don't think it's luck. I've been oiling every night before washday recently, with no stains whatsoever. :) So I guess it's the material.

You never fail to crack me up, Gumball. :rollin:
If I heavily oil overnight, it's only the length from the chin down that get oiled. I wear my hair in a scrunchie bun on the top of my head, with the ends tucked under, so the oil really doesn't soak into the pillowcase at all.
Also, I use a satin pillowcase that just doesn't seem to pick up oil stains, as some others have mentioned.

I just put a towel over my pillowcase to absorb any excess oil. Works like a charm. :) I put a new towel every couple of days. I also use it because I use self tanning lotion over night, and it stains stuff, so the towel prevents the pillowcase from being stained.

Yea i just tend to use a shower cap. it makes me wake up with headaches sometimes, but its the best way. i heavy heavy oil, so this works for me. i also have a silk pillow case but i use the shower cap since if i sleep without it, then i fear my thin hair will get some of that excess oil when i sleep the next day & get oily :\

I oil my ends once a week and keep my hair in a braid. I don't cover my head or silk pillows with anything. I don't use too much oil, just enough to coat and absorb well.

I don't put anything, i do very heavy oilings and braid my hair. I always use satin pillowcases which i wash the next day without any problem.

Just a thought - it could be the type of oil you are using. I use Monoi or coconut oil every night on my ends after braiding. I use a small amount but coconut oil absorbs very quickly as well and I have not had any problems with the oil getting on my pillowcase or sheets. If you are using a heavy oil, such as olive oil that does not absorb as well or quickly then you may need to protect your pillowcase.

I use coconut oil and then bun. I usually put it on a couple of hours before I go to sleep and I haven't had any problems with staining.
