Well, I was day dreaming last night about all the amazing things I could do (and buy) for my hair once it is a bit longer and I thought to myself let me see just how far away I am from using hair sticks.........

Well, who would have thought! I didn't even think it was long enough to get into a French pleat, let alone be held with a disposable chopstick!!

I can't wear it out yet, but it did stay up all evening and with some head shaking to test it out.

Here are some pictures, so you other shorties out there can be inspired to give it a go

My length for reference:

And the french pleat with chopstick :D

What is a french pleat? Is it the same as a french twist?

Ohh, yes I think so!!

I've always called it a pleat but the technique is the same :)

I think that's what it is. I think the OP is British....you know those Brits with their plaits and pleats *wink*

Ooh, pleat! I read 'plait' and was all confused staring at the pictures and trying to see where the plaiting was. Didn't figure it out until I read the rest of the comments. *g* It looks lovely, Hotrox!

It looks good; I think you could wear it out of the house.

I bet when you stretch your hair it would be way past shoulder, so it's a little misleading title. =( I don't think wavy shoulder lenght can do that.

Why don't you stretch your hair to measure? I've seen people with neck lenght hair that stretched was about bsl (she was 4a I think). Just saying...would be more acurate.

You could have a curly goal and a stretched goal.

I have to agree with spidermom, it does look very nice. Your hair will so thank you for learning stick-stuff and not having snaggy clips and sharp things in it.

I can get my straight thick hair up in a peacock twist, almost a French twist on SL hair that is dry and thus not wanting to go up and hold it with a single stick. My hair is late to go to anything due to the amount.

ETA:

Hotrox, looks great! Thanks for reminding me to try it, super comfy and woohoo another style.

I can do a french twist on hair that is between APL and Shoulder length, and my hair is very straight and thick. I can only do 2 twists though, one when I put it up, and another to put it in a generic twist/fold it in. It also requires quite a few pins.

Is your hair about APL stretched?

It might be long enough for a cinnabun, if not now probably soon. Curly hair can be misleading.

Thanks for all the lovely comments :D

When I pull the front section (not including chin length layers) it just passes my collar bone. Is that Shoulder length??

I just had a growth spurt I think (thank you monistat) and I think it has gotten longer than I thought it was

I'm just too excited :p

The other way to do a french twist with a hairstick (or a fork) is to stick the stick (or fork) right down the enter of the twist... and it all but disappears. So if you want the stick to show, use one with a large and/or colorful and/or very noticeable topper. Or use a bright fork that contrasts against your hair color.
