I tried to find a study or survey about how common long hair (shoulderlength or longer) on men is in different countries but havenīt found one so far.
Anyone have any clue?
Is it common where you live?

I'm just making a guess all based on stereotypes, so I'm thinking it must be Finland. Oh perhaps India as well due to Sikhs :)

Most men here in the USA have short hair. *Sigh.* I think men with longer hair look more handsome, but that's probably just me. :D My DBF prefers his hair longer, so it's a win-win situation. I really hate how long hair on men is so frowned upon here. :(

And California. ;)
I don't see a whole lot of them around here, the average is probably collar length, long, but not long, and definitely not LHC long.

Sweden also produces incredible Melodic Metal and Heavy Metal music. Coincidence? I think not.
(Sonata Arctica, I believe, are from Sweden, aren't they?)

I actually live in Sweden and I don´t think it´s very common here. Only a very small parts of the the metalfans here have long hair. I noticed that it´s more common in Finland and Greece to have long hair though.
What about South America? Countries like Peru and Bolivia for instance? I have never been there but I assume that it´s common with long haired men there, anyone been there?

All of my male friends except one got long hair.
I guess it depends alot by the type of people you befriend. Most of my male friends are also roleplayers and/or programmers... Groups which seems to have long hair by default. ;)
If you want to find men with long hair by country, I'd suggest finding cultures which somehow promotes long hair in men.

Same here, haven't seen that many here. Actually been trying to see if I can spot any long haired(chin length doesn't count) guys whenever I'm outside. Haven't had any luck so far. Can definately count them on my two hands. And if I can recall, only saw 2 guys yesterday (better than nothing :p).

I asked a few guys around here why they donīt have long hair even though they are huge metalfans. All of them answered that they get fewer hot girls if they have long hair, 2 of them used to have long hair but they cut their hair off since it scared away many girls.
It seems to be common that Swedish girls, that arenīt into metal, walk away if a long haired man starts to talk to them in a club.:(

Aww I see. That's sucks that they feel that they need to cut their hair just to have it easier when approaching girls. :(
I'd love to see more guys with long hair, but at least now I know why I don't see that many. *sigh*

Malmö ;)
I suppose people are far more open in the US and UK than what they are in Sweden.
From my experience when I was in USA and in the UK, people were definitely not afraid to approach me/talk to me, while here in Sweden people in general try to avoid such instances as much as possible LOL.

I used to live in Skåne actually and has been in Malmö many times, these days I live in Gothenburg.
Funny thing I noticed is that most guys that have really long hair in Gothenburg also have beard. wonder why?
Is this an international trend?

Ive lived in England, Germany and Sweden and my boyfriends Italian so from that experience the most common is Sweden and then Germany. Comparatively England has much less and Italy alot less. But its very much in tally with heavy metal.

Its because Sweden, especially Göteborg is big on heavy metal and long hair is a style trait.

Men here in Spain tend to go for the short hair look. Lots of them even use hair clippers for that really, really short look, especially during our long, hot summers.
I think the weather has a lot to do with all this.

In NYC it's relatively common, outside the city, not as much.
In Russia a man with long hair would be close to impossible to find before, now a bit more common in major cities but still unusual. Certain hairstyles used to be required for school and work. Plus the hat layering in the winter is easier with a half a centimeter all over cut that is pretty standard there.

India. Nobody (female) had a pixie in my whole college I think until I got one. And I probably have the shortest hair of all my (female) friends at APL.
ETA I know a few males with longer hair than mine too. All the Sikhs I know obviously have way longer hair than I do and always have.

I've also noticed the beards with long hair thing. I think it's more common in cities, and not so much in rural or especially suburban areas. India might have a lot with the Sikhs, but I dunno how major a part of the population they are. Canada(Qubec/Montreal) seemed to have a fair number when I visited as a child!

I've never been to South America, but I've noticed that Argentinian men seem to be quite long-haired, usually. Not LHC long, but shoulder length or so.

It'd have to be the country with the largest number of Sikhs, wouldn't it? Sikh gentlemen aren't allowed to cut their hair.

That would be India, but long hair on men is unusual in India. Only the sikhs (and they are not many) and a few metalfans have got long hair.
I am so surprised that people think that itīs common with men with long hair in Sweden, I donīt think itīs very common here. I guess it depends on what country you compare with ;)

Yeah, I think it seems to be fairly common in the UK. Many of my male friends have long hair (though I am another metal fan so that probably has something to do with it!) but equally I see a fair number of long haired men that don't seem to be obvious metal fans on an average day in the town centre.

Here in Finland many men have long hair, even young ones. Reason must be the image of heavy metal music and how all people who listen that have long hair. Of course it's not only reason for men with long hair in here, but it's biggest reason I think.

I think it would be Jamaica, most of the men there are Rastafarian, they are not allowed to shed a hair, so they keep their hair in dreads. I am not sure of the religion in the middle east that says the same thing, but I have seen older men from the middle east with floor length dreads.

I would vote for India, because Sikh men keep their hair long, but wrapped up in a bun.

As Amoretti & Rameau rightly pointed out regarding Italy and Spain, long hair is in fact quite rare in the Mediterranean countries due to the heat & social culture (I come from Malta - long hair is experimented by teenagers there, but is usually hastily cut off before adulthood). Now I live in Wales (UK) and next to back home it is a lot more common to find long haired guys, though I'm assuming Scandinavia in general has a higher percentage of guys with long hair.

I can't say that I see it very often where I live in North Carolina (U.S.). I see every so often but most men have either short, shaved, or bald hair. When I do see it usually nothing past shoulder length.
