View Full Version : Greetings! Can TLHC help me find a wedding style?

Why hello there! Let me start by saying how much I love this forum- it has been a great help to me, and I wouldn't trade it for the world. :D I hope one day I'll be able to contribute. This is such an informative place!

If it's not too much to ask, I could use some help... I'm getting hitched in a month or so, and I'm at a loss for what to do with my hair.

State of the Mane address: it's in bad shape. :( The type is 2a I think? Currently somewhere around 6" past the top of my shoulders but in bad need of a trim. Frizzy from the ears down. It gets greasy at the back of the crown about six hours after washing, but the lower half looks parched until halfway through day 2 post-wash (coconut oil is helping some with this, but MAN the grease is bad up top!). I keep it in a bun mostly- for the last two years I've put it in a ponytail, twisted the tail bit, and wrapped that around the base to secure with pins. Slowly branching out to better buns. Here is my only photo that even remotely shows the hair condition (sorry, it's a grad pic and not of the back!):

It's a bit shorter now, and the lighter/color damaged/layered ends have been chopped off.

So. Now that that's out of the way... for my wedding I may or may not be able to get someone to do my hair. The only style I know how to do is the bun I wear every day, and I feel like I should be changing it up a bit! Wearing a blusher veil and the dress has a nifty keyhole back thing going on, so I'm hoping to manage an updo, but something with a little more volume than I normally have. But how? :( And what? I'm so lost!

Please LHC, you are my only hope. Anything you can suggest would be so very appreciated!

I suppose it depends on what kind of dress you have and what kind of veil you have....

Mind telling me about them? sleeveless? strapless altogether? long sleeves?

Is the veil supposed to cover the hair, be worn on the top of your head? Is it one of the ones that you just wear a low bun and put it near the nape of the neck? Is is one of the 2 parters that covers your face?

Hi and welcome to LHC! :flower: We're happy to have you here!

You might want to check out Torrin Paige's (http://www.youtube.com/user/torrinpaige?blend=2&ob=1) YouTube channel. She has quite a few fancy updos that would be suitable for a wedding.

Here are some links to the vids:

Rita's Updo (http://www.youtube.com/user/torrinpaige?blend=2&ob=1#p/u/44/-jbCEzFPKEs) (It's a prom hairstyle, but generally prom hairstyles can work for weddings, too.)

If you don't want anything super-fancy, Torrin has a lot of other easier and simpler styles.

You could also go check out Rapunzel's Resource (http://rapunzelsresource.wordpress.com/). The webmistress, Elizabeth, has a lot of super-gorgeous hairstyles.

I hope that was helpful. :) I hope you find a style that you like and I hope your wedding goes well. ^^

Hi, welcome to LHC!
I would personally search wedding updos on google so that you can get ideas for the kind of look you want. If you need help and tips for the styling, make sure you practice (or your stylist gets practice) and ask questions if you're having issues. Remember, pictures are really useful for us to use as reference so that we can help you more effectively!

Some style instruction pages, though these are mostly basic everyday styles:

If you want a big bun that will be elegant, sophisticated and really easy to do yourself, try Loepsie's sock bun. I think it's your best bet for your length as it gives the illusion of more hair than one actually has AND it looks awesome really shiny...so if your hair doesn't feel like being cooperative in the feeling a bit greasy department...it won't matter in the least. She figured out how to make it so it's neat as a pin and you have no hair left over to wrap around. Your link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I13J7ArHTkM My two biggest bits of advice are to find a sock that closely resembles your hair color and to practice it a few times until you get it down pat. It'll stay and look fabulous so you won't have to worry about your hair on your big day. Also? You won't have to put any money out for someone else to do it for you. Just my two bits. :)

Oh, and I like it up high on the crown of the head...that way it's just a pretty from the front. ;)
