Last night my friend was over. She got a little scissorhappy and I happily cut her hair for her. I let her cut my bangs. Then I let her do this:

Tell me it isn't as bad as I think it is. I'm freaking out. I don't know what I was thinking. Keep in mind this pic was taken after sleeping on it all night.

I just wanted a few tiny blonde streaks on the sides where I could pull my hair up. I wanted to grow my natural color out. They're thicker than I thought and they show through on the top layer- something I did NOT want. I didn't want my top layer touched. But the way I part my hair makes me have one right on top. I'm just sort of really mad with myself.

I could cry.

Tell me it will be okay? :(

I have a WEDDING in October omg. WHY DID I DO THIS.

I think it's pretty!

If you really don't like it maybe get another box of colour in between the blonde and your colour, and darken them slightly?

You can go over the streaks with semi-permanent color to tone them down and thin them out.

I think it looks striking and cute. It's a way of getting some fun color without having to commit to a huge change.

If you really hate it, like if you think it's a look that doesn't work on you, you could just take those bits and dye them brown?

But if I were you I'd keep it as is!

To me it is okay ! I guess the color will slightly fade the following days. You can also cover it with a mix of cassia and indigo, but I am not a indigo specialist.

Don't worry :)

Take a picture after you comb it out and maybe that will lessen the shock of it sweetie. Take a few deep breaths. I don't know what advice to give you, other than that cliche that hair will grow back, but I am not sure how comforting that statement is for you.

I at first thought she cut out the huge chunks, but when I read it was not combed I relaxed. Give it a comb, take another picture, see if it looks a little better, and at least you got rid of split ends, right? :) :grouphug:

I can just imagine- I too have been in the grips of a hair altering fever before :brains:

I like them! You will be able to style your hair to make them more subtle. Like Demetrue said, when you are completely sick of them it is possible to tone down blond with a semi-permanent.

Give it a bit of time :blossom:

As others said before me: I don't think it looks bad and if you comb it through properly I'm sure it will be less noticable :flower:

I recently got highlights that turned out lighter and more visible than I wanted so I just went over them with a very gentle semi-permanent color. Now they are like barely visible natural looking highlights. If you don't like them, color over them. I was so much happier with my hair after I did.

It doesn't look bad at all. I like the lighter colors. I bet it'd make some pretty patterns in a braid or bun.

I like it :) I think it looks good!

Its not bad at all, I was thinking you had cut when I seen the thread, just give yourself a nice DT and enjoy your highlites

I hope your hair stands up to highlights better than mine did. If so, it should make for beautiful braids.

Breathe - if you really want to change it, it's nothing a careful colouring session won't fix, and because they're streaks rather than all over, the damage will be minimal. Your hair is still beautiful. :grouphug:

First, take a deep breath. And another.

Second, comb or brush your hair out. Right now everything is all post-sleep clumping together, which is making everything stand out more.

Third, if you still don't like how it looks after combing, then agreed with what others are saying here about going over the highlights with a semi-permanent dye.

Although I do like them. Really cute!

I agree with those who suggested colouring over the streaks. If you feel very unhappy with them (I like them, and agree with spidermom that they would look great in a braid) maybe you should get some colour that matches your natural colour and dye over them slightly, just to blend them a little more. Whatever you decide to do, your hair looks lovely to me and I wouldn't stress over it too much! :)

I think those are nice streaks.

I made the mistake of getting some streaks to hide the fact that the Clairol was fading out weird. I wound up with skunk head...BIG chunks of bleached hair in weird places. I also burned my scalp.

I actually really like it! As others said, you could always dye over it with a semi permanent color. Forgive my weirdness, but it reminds me of Reese's Peanut butter cups :D Yum!

I like it. Gives it extra bounce and dimension.

I really couldn't tell it wasn't intentional. I like the placement of the highlights, and your color came out good. I don't notice the top layer having an issue. I think it could easily be dyed back to your natural if you needed it to be. If you dont like it, it might look cute if you had light brown highlights with brown hair (I've always wanted that).

Oh my, I think it's CUTE! I'd love something like that! I've been thinking about doing something like that for ages. But if you don't like it I'd find a washes out after 20 washes thing color and try to tone them down a bit :)

Personally I like it- especially since you have curly hair and it's neat to see a few ringlets lighter than the rest.:) I'd suggest waiting a few days before doing anything and seeing how you feel after you've had a chance to live with it and style it and get a feel for how they'll look every day and not with bed head. ;) If you have a wedding hair style picked out try it to see if you'd be happy with the lighter bits. And if all else fails I bet a demi color or something along those lines would tone them down.

I don't think it looks bad from the picture. Remember curly hair hides a lot of sins. If you straightend your hair regularly and the foils were more noticeable, it may be a problem only then.

Usually I hate highlights because the look really damaged on people. It seems like highlight damage more than dye. But yours still look shiny and I think it actually looks really nice! If you are going to have highlight let them show.

Honestly, I think it's pretty! If you feel that there are a few strands in your part that stands out too much, why don't you try changing your part and see if you like the way it looks?

I feel that the highlights make your hair look less 'flat' and one-dimensional right? Looks like it added some body and brought out the curls nicely.

In any case, if you do decide to color over it, how about implementing the 2-week rule? Give yourself some time to get used to the new look and then decide if coloring over it is really what you want before you do anything major again.

Well, the blonde streaks do look a little harsh with your hair color but I have seen MUCH worse. You could go over them with a darker shade of blonde (or light brown) to make it look more natural. I don't think anyone would say it looks horrible though.

I honestly like it. Shows off the ringlets, and as those ringlets regroup with each wash the streaks should break up a bit. Don't be too rash it will take a few days to for color to settle too.

My honest opinion : I think some of the highlights are too thick and they are quite bright. If they were just a tad bit more subtle I think they would look great. I would tone them or use a semi color. Not back to your natural color, I would stay a few shades lighter. I think the biggest issue is how chunky some of them are. It's an easy fix and thank goodness it was not a bad cut ! That was my first fear......
Good luck ! Let us know what you decide to do :)

It doesn't look bad at all, to be objective. But if you don't like it and feel bad with it you may use a non-permanent hair dye just before the wedding. One of the ones that are possible to wash out in one or two washes. The streaks will be invisible and you won't damage your hair.

LouLaLa

Its not that bad. But if im 100% honest id put a semi perm dye or gloss over it prior to the wedding (yours or a friends?). Id do that because hilights are soo a product of this time that I woudnt want to look back at the photo when im older and "chunky hilights" are no longer the rage. I think its better to look classic in such shots. Thats just me though some people like contrast so its just personal preference really.

Anyway its ok, that was my two cents, its perfectly wearable but if it were me id out a gloss on or a one wash colour pack for the wedding.

Good luck :) I love your curls theyre really cool!

Honestly I would go get them fixed. They look very chunky and not uniformly placed plus too bright for your color. A demi color close to your natural will be able to cover them without too much damage.

I had to read the post twice and then look back at the picture to figure out what you were upset about. (You have pretty hair and curls.)

I get being upset over something being done to your hair. Been there done that and all. It seems that a lot of people on the board have some good ideas on things you can do to change it. But, in the mean time remember that sometimes it seems a lot bigger to us then to other people because it is OUR hair :-) (((hugs)))

aw I think its fun! Plus, you dyed it light, which is good because if you want it gone for the wedding you can easily dye over it!

September 6th, 2010, 09:20 AM
Oh, I've done this in the past. I actually went to hair colorist and she patiently picked out all the highlights and dyed them to my match my brown. Because my hair is so dark the color never really lifted from where it was bleached though they became a bit lighter, like natural highlights.

I like it, it's very Hermione Granger. If you don't like it, henna over it and have some nice highlights. Prsonally though, I think it looks just fine. Don't panic.

Sorry I just got back. But thanks... you guys do make me feel a lot better about it. I'll give it a week or two- I must admit that I do like how they look in braids. The streaks look cool. The first time we did it, the steak was so small you couldn't even see it. But yes these are rather thick.

I found a nice ashy brown color I liked, it was pretty light, maybe I'll try using it if I decided to fix them.

Is there any rule that says I can't do an SMT after highlights?

FrannyG
September 6th, 2010, 04:04 PM
I'm happy that the previous comments helped you to relax a bit. :blossom:

I know from my past days with highlights that they always looked very bright when they were first done, but they often oxidized and looked much more neutral after a few days or a week.

See what happens before you do anything else with them. You've already said that you've invoked the 2 week rule, so I'm sure that by then, you'll know whether the streaks have toned down or not.

In all honesty, while they are bold, I like them. :)

Oh, and yes, you can most certainly SMT over those highlights. I would recommend that you do so.

That sort of highlight looks good on some people - I think it looks cute from the shots you showed. Since you're not happy with it I would tone down the highlights with another color though, and it should look much better, and perhaps even better than before (dimension and all that. ) :)

If you were still using henna it would look very cool to henna over it all. You would get that bright red so many people are after:)
If you don't like them and don't want to use henna again, pick out the highlights and dye them.
