Final shot for this year - bun waves and clarified with ACV rinse, head tilted forward a bit, but it is BCL!!:cheese:
We could be hair sisters! Congrats on BCL! :)

Here is a shot taken on December 30th, on Gran Canaria. Hair is newly washed, detangled and almost dry. It looks darker than usual in this picture, but I suspect that has to do with the lighting.
My hair has passed hip length, and is creeping oh-so-slowly up on tailbone length. I expect to arrive there in early summer, depending on how much I have to trim :pray: - my Christmas Holiday in the sun has garnered me a crop of split ends :( (which fortunately are not visible in the picture.)

First hair picture of the year, I'm starting to think I am ready to move on from this thread to the tailbone to classic one. What do you all think? I've always seen TB as the very tip, and I think I am mostly there? (Although it is a bit hard to see, what with pants and all. XD)

It's true, this length group is a long one. I reached waist last January, and I'm still a good inch away from TB. :silly:
On the bright side, the longer we're in this group, the longer we don't have to worry about accidentally sitting on our hair! (small comfort, yes, but it is something)

I am past waist by around 2 + inches. I am hoping to get close to TB by end of 2011 - it is 5-6 inches away. No trimming and measure minimum 3 months apart.Daily updos as usual and more buns as braids leave vulnerable ends. New vitanmin and exercis regimes.

What length is TB on all you? On me I think 39.5 ish would be TB with true TB being 42 (bottom of the TB or coccyx) and then clasic is about 44. I am 5'9 and 3/4 !!!

I'm 5'10" - Waist 33", TB 40", Classic 47".
I'm at least a year from TB at the moment, at 34", but with trims and my intermittent growth rate, I think I'm going to be here closer to two years.

Being short has it's advantages. Iam 5'4" or 165 cm. I measured from the top/back/crown of my head (not from the hairline)
Waist = 61 cm/ 24"
Hip = 68 cm/ 27"
Tailbone = 76 cm/ 30"
Classic = 82 cm/ 32"

When I first joined with 'LHC TB'/BCL being my ultimate goal, I measured that it would be at around 36". I think that true tailbone, the end of the bone, is probably more like 38", but I'm not sure I'm growing as far as that. I am only 5'3" though and waist on me was only about 29", maybe a smide longer but not even 30".

Oookay - now I am sitting here with henna mud on my hair, doing my roots. This weekend has been a real "pamper your hair" weekend - I have been doing treatments, and my hair felt soft and happy even before I put henna on it. :D But I suppose it needed it - I had a Christmas holiday in the sun, and my hair had to put up with frequent dips in salty or chlorinated water. But I did what I could - kept my hair in protective dos (it was an excellent reason for practicing Dutch braiding ;)) and did frequent oilings.
I did get a lot of split ends nonetheless, so I did a little trim earlier today - took off about 1 cm - which is something I had not intended to do for another month or two. But my hair needed it. Better a trim than having a head full of split ends!:p

Finally someone who has measurements closer to mine! I was starting to think I might be measuring wrong. There seem to be a lot of folks on here who have short TB measurements. BCL is like 34-35" for me so TB is longer than that (and I'm 5'4").

I actually am 5'5" or 165 cm. I am not used to feet and inches yet.
Below measurements when I start measuring at hairline:
Waist = 76 cm/ 29.9"
Hip = 83 cm/ 32.7"
Tailbone = 91 cm/ 35.8"
Classic = 97 cm/ 38.2"
Which way is the standard way of measuring at LHC? Is from the hairline or from the crown of your head?
For me it would be starting from the crown, because it the most standardized way. It eliminates headsize. Ofcourse the body height is also an uncertainty.

most of LHC starts at the hairline, and most measurements you see will be starting from the hairline. I believe the reasoning is that you will more easily be able to find the same starting point every time. :)

January 3rd, 2011, 01:23 PM
I always have the same starting point too. I have my height marked on the wall and measure the lenght of my hair and put a new pencil line at that new lenght and put the date next to it.
When I measure the lenght on the wall it is actually the same as measuring from the crown/top of the head. So I prefer this way, but I will add the size of my head.
And what about thinning or disappearing hairline? Wouldn't that be a problem with this measurement from the hairline?

Wow. My torso really is long for my height! (Five foot 8 here and also waist 35 and TB 40.) I mean, I knew that already given how much I have to lengthen basically any sewing pattern for my top half, but sometimes it's brought home to me. :p

I was just wondering if you are going for waist as high waist - the true waist we use here.
My high waist is about 31-32 inches - what I think of as waist is about 34-35 inches (what we call hip on here). In my head hip is what we call BCL on here - on me about 39-40. AND tailbone to me would be true tailboine - ie coccyx length so about 42 inches on me.

I don't really understand where tailbone is meant to be beacuse somepeople on here think that BCL = Tailbone. I think tailbone is true tailbone/coccyx which is about 2 inches shy of classic - so that is probably too low.

I'm measuring the waist where I'd measure it if I were measuring for clothes, at the narrowest point - the point where if you bend to the side, you get the crease. My waist and hips are pretty defined in relation to each other (go go pear shapes! :p), so I hadn't really thought that maybe I was measuring a different bit to everyone else. OTOH, "hip" coveres a whole load of measurements. I started calling mine "hip" when it covered the "gap" where my waist goes in and hit nearly the widest point of my hips, which is just below navel level on me. BCL is a few inches below that on me, and TB a couple more inches. I think I have a short coccyx perhaps, because the start of BCL is only an inch and a half or two inches above TB for me.
Hmm, maybe I should get my camera working, take a full length picture with measurements and see what people think. Body proportions are interesting (to me, anyway :p)
ETA: I think my bonus torso length is above the waist, based on the fact that I have to lengthen patterns to make them reach my waist, rather than having loads of length in the hip, as trousers fit fine. So I may just be comparatively low-waisted and gaining inches that way.

Yep- I'm about 2 inches past BCL...but after considering it, I don't really think it's TBL yet. I think I'll wait until it's as long unstretched as it is stretched right now, and then I'll be confident that I'm in TBL territory ;)

I have some fairly extreme body hatred, so I don't like posting pics . . . but everyone here is so kind, I think I feel OK about it. And I want opinions. I think hip-ish; my pants are well below my natural waist.
You can see fairly clearly where I my old layers end, around BSL. I'm not sure how they convinced me that layers are a good idea. My hair is generally a solid ii, but not from BSL down . . .
So, hip-ish? Waist-ish? I could pull out the waves for comparison but I don't care to.

My current plan is to grow to classic, annoying old layers be damned, and then trim trim trim at classic to even it all up.
For a while I thought I wanted to trim first, to let the layers catch up (I'm very un-fond of the wispiness), but then I thought about how long that would take and how much I wanted to be at classic and how nobody besides my husband ever sees my hair down anyway . . . so I'm just going for it.
Should I assume since everyone else here is also growing, they have a similar strategy . . . or did others cultivate the hemline first, then grow?

My hemline is fairly crazy because of curls/waves and general unevenness. I'm trying to reach TB (maybe even classic) then I'll deal with thickening up my hemline. So yeah, sounds like we both have the same strategy. :)

I 'd go for a little past hip - I love you hair it's so pretty. I also don't see any reason for any body hatred!I hate my body. In makes me miserable and so does my face. I don't really like my hair either since I cut it - I keep trying to con my self into the idea I do like it and then I realise it's still disappointly short.
However on a positive note - I tried the coconut oil shampoo thing - and it is quite impressive. I need to manipulate the technique to get the ends more oiled somehow but my hair was vastly softer

You seem to have more patience than me :) I keep going backwards and forwards between trimming more often and letting it grow. I just can't decide what would be best. I think my compromise this year will be dusting! The tiniest amount ever each month to see if it will increase thickness without taking away growth.

Last evening I decided I needed some help figuring out how much more length I need to get to BCL, so I put my hand behind my back, flat across at that length and asked one of my kids how much longer my hair needed to get to be "this" long. He pulled down the few inches of take-up my waves give me and said "Feel that? It's your hair!" Pulled straight it was just long enough to brush my hand. I was so thrilled, and told him thank you, and how happy I was to be BCL. I'm sure some of you will understand the confused expression he got trying to figure out what I'd just said, so I told him "butt crack length!" He was speechless, but amused. The things we do to our kids. :D
So I've met another mile-stone. The amount of take-up I've got it still looks hip length, and by the time it looks BCL it will probably be TB.

My hair is there too! I agree it is so cool, but I hate that I have to stretch my hair to see it (or it needs to be wet).

pepperedmoth: Yes definitely hip! If you stretch out the waves it seems like it might even be colse to BCL. And very pretty I might add :)
I'm still here in this thread... 6cm still until TB. I trim when I can't stand the thinness of my ends anymore, but it definitely sets my progress back. (I was only 3cm from TB not so long ago)
It's always such a debate with me! I know once I reach TB I will be happy maintaining so long as I don't go shorter, but until I get there every bit lost feels like it's just really setting me back. I thought I would have reached TB 2 years ago but I hit major stalling between waist and TB and kept feeling the need to trim my thin ends. Anyone else in the same boat?
I have the same hair as you! My ends are very thin and fairy tailed and I hated mine until I just saw how beautiful yours look! It does not matter how thin they are, look how beautiful they fall! thanks for posting this pic in your signature. I am def not going to cut mine after seeing yours. :)

I'd love to make it to TB. I am new ( this is my second time posting on here- even though I have been reading the boards for a while), but I just figured out that BSL means bra strap line. Anyway, I am waist right now. Just hennaed my hair today. I found an Indian salon that will apply for you (no mess in the bathroom)... but it was a little too red so I followed up with Hana indigo and now I am raven locked for the first time in years. This is actually my first successful indigo dye-- each other time i didn't have a high enough quality indigo. I have attached a photo.
OMG -- by the way -- posting about my hair actually feels so indulgent. I'm so used to quietly accepting compliments as to not offend people and say--- yeah my hair is gorgeous! So this is quite therapeutic.
Anyway, I was using Aveda Scalp Benefits shampoo and conditioner to wash and condition, and every so often using an alma/henna/ground ginger mix to give it a little more body. My hair is fine and straight so a little volume helps. Occasionally I use eggwhite/avocado mix to condition too. It depends on how much time I have.
Any suggestions on taking my hair from waist to tb? http://lh6.ggpht.com/_jVnLxlPbG5s/TTe47bIp5DI/AAAAAAAAACA/SNgB00UcXr4/s512/ravenhaired.JPG

Just popping in to say I made it! My hair is now solidly at BCL when wet. I did a happy dance in the shower when I felt it. So it took about 3.5 months, but that was with two little trims, maybe 1/4 to 1/2 inch each time. Wahoo!! :cheese:

Of course, I haven't been regularly measuring for a while so I might not even know whether it helps :p I'm also trying to grow my nails out so hopefully it will help with that :)

It looks curlier in this picture I took the other day, but also almost the same length (or maybe even shorter) than the one I took prior (in my album). I might reach TB uncurled soon, but I'm going to be waiting forever to reach TB curled (sigh). Anyone want to lament with me?:p

My hair is at hip, I think (and it feels like it's been here forever because of the curl :rolleyes:), and my braid reaches waist down my back and just past bsl if I pull it over my shoulder to the front.

Ooh, I'm not lamenting anything except jealousy for not having those gorgeous curls!! I can get a similar look with rag curlers, but they only last a day or two at best. And I permed and used hot rollers for years trying to have that same curl. Personally, I think any discouragement on reaching the length you want is *way* overshadowed by what it already looks like and what it is going to be when you get to goal!!!!:thudpile:

Ah gee thanks guys :) My hair is not always that curly, I had it up after washing (plopping) and this was a day after taking it down. It is definitely always wavy just not always as tightly wurled. Seriously, you are all way too nice. You all have very beautiful hair. I shouldn't complain but the curl seriously is annoying some times. There is nothing you can do with it except let it be its crazy self. And on top of that ---it is a brat. It prefers to surf above your goal instead of diving in!

I do get your frustration, and, yes, you are allowed to complain about it...we all have something about our hair that frustrates us or we wish were different LOL
And my dd has probably 2c/3a hair, and I get to comb it out all the time, so I do feel that pain! I appreciate how well it has to be taken care of (braided at night, combed regularly, oiled, etc.) to not be broken and damaged! Beautiful, but a lot more high-maintenance than my own hair.

I am still right at BCL, after a quarter-inch trim January 1 to even up a bit. I have been wearing it up a lot, but have also noticed it is dryer and more tangle-prone than usual these days, probably stress and not drinking enough water, so I'm going to do a SMT today and see if I can head the inevitable damage off at the pass (inevitable because I'm impatient and usually running late on work mornings, and don't take the time I ought to in de-tangling, resulting in some breakage). This is definitely a habit I need to change!!

My hair is trundling along slowly but surely - like the tortoise. I think I am likely to hit TBL in May, but if I need to do a trim it is likely to take a bit longer. I let my measuring tape lie mostly undisturbed among my sewing things anyway - or if I use it, it is not my hair that I measure. ;)

WHY does this period take soooo long?? Hahaha
I feel like I have been at waist forever, I stopped measuring my hair because the waves vary so much, so one day may be measured a couple of inches shorter than the day before, or vice versa.
My goal length is 36 inches, which I like because it's a good round number, 3 feet, and I would like to stay there to thicken up my hemline. Right now I am still hovering at about 31 inches...grr

I was rereading an old thread, and I came across one of my posts, from July, where I was talking about being at waist. And now, it's January, and I am STILL exactly at waist -- a combination of trimming and stalling. That has just made me really frustrated :( I basically have made no progress in several months.

Your hair grows an inch a month??? Jan to July, would be an "average" of 3.5 inches. (Assuming average growth rate is approx. 1/2 inch per month) I think I'm pretty average, and if you're pulling 1"+ per month I am super jealous:p

My hair appears to have shrunk on some days. Like today - I took it out of a tight braid and so the waves were very bouncy and I was just at waist. Its hard to tell when you look in the mirror as if you look sideways the longest bits are extra long and the furtherst away bits very short... (I hope you understand that).
I pulled my hair today and I think the short bits are hip when straight . I think the long bits are hip when wavey. I coudl be making that up beacuse I can't really see. I am guessing. Only 6 weeks unitl I will allow myself to photo and measure.

Hey everyone! I'm nowhere near waist yet, but I thought I'd take a look at this thread to see if you have any tidbits of knowledge for me. When my hair got past waist before, the length started getting really thin from waist on. I don't know if it was just because I was needing a maintenance trim or due to too much friction in that area. I hope I can figure it out this time around because I would love to get my hair even longer this time.

Just thought I'd check in and say that I am ridiculously close to hip length, which excites me greatly. I suspect that I'm less than an inch away and only two or so inches away from BCL/TBL (they're the same length for me). I've measured the lengths, but I do not trust their accuracy because once my hair actually gets there, I wind up getting a smaller number.
When I did my first self-trim back in August 2010, my hair was halfway to hip length and I wound up cutting off the thin ends to waist length (26" on me). Since I started doing monthly microtrims, I was a bit concerned that I wouldn't gain that much length, but it turns out my hair has been doing pretty well because it is ~29" with trims of .25-75" a month. I'm skipping January, though, since my December trim was delayed by two weeks and my next trim will be on February 18th.
I am so happy that my layers are disappearing little by little and it feels great to observe my hemline thickening up. :cheese: My longest layers are somewhere between APL and BSL, so hopefully it won't take too long to get rid of them completely.
Now I'm starting to wonder if there is a slight possibility that I will get BCL/TBL length hair for my birthday in May... Hmmm....

...And I'm just in this club! Next stop - TB! :joy:
Freckles, don't be sad or angry with your hair. Enjoy it! Tomorrow will be better. Besides, I'm sure that all those trimming made your hair looking great, and that's excellent start on the journey from waist to TB!
thanks for your kind words. I have more hair irritations today, but yeah, I like it a little more than when I made that post! :)
congratulations on joining the thread :)

I was at tailbone-length before a cut a week ago...now I'm growing back out. It's the first time I'll be consciously growing my hair out, so I wonder how long it'll take...

I'm at the same position. I was almost TB, but I've decided to cut 2 or 3 inches to get rid of damage, so I'm at waist again. I'm glad I've had a courage to start fresh from waist length. I'd like my TB length to be as much firm and healthy as it can, once when it comes. :)

Welcome, SandraRebekka! I started here at LHC just barely hitting waist, too. That was a year and a half ago, and I'm very close to leaving this thread now, but wanted to wish you well and happy growing!
Thank you for your words of welcome. It is nice to know that it took you a year and a half just to have somebody elses experience with this community in mind. I have no idea where the journey will take me, there is so much advice out here. I am slowly working my way through reading and categorizing and have started my first experiment. Have fun in the next part of your journey.

I'm maintaining-ish doing small 5mm trims whenever it seems to need it trying to thicken the hemline. Measured in at 37 inches last night after my 5th, yes, 5, small dustings in January. Still getting a bit of length, as it was 36 7/8 at the beginning of the month. I sure hope that the thin ends that want to snag on things grow out soon. I know part of the reason the hem is thin is due to lots of S&D, but it clearly needs it.

My ends are hideous today - I over clasrified with BS before oil shampoo. I have made a horrible mess of my hair and have had a lot of breaks.... Hoever I am going to re-do them tonight with a 3;1 oil shampoo which shoudl sort them out. I have done a small dusting too. So much for no trims in 2011 and I have to say I looked at my hair this morning and it looks barely waist. I think I might need a 6 week break from the bored and stop looking at my hair!

Since we're nearly the same hair type and fairly similar water quality (I'm in Norfolk), I have to ask; is that 3:1, oil:shampoo or shampoo: oil? I've been using 1:1 but I was thinking of upping the oil.

i'm finally admitting myself to this thread! I've been around waist length for about a year, trimming, trimming trimming, and I'm now about an inch from hip (stretched)
i've got about six-nine inches of damage in the ends from old highlights, so the plan is to grow to hip and then trim back to just beyond waist so that the ends are soft and thick in time for my wedding in May :-D
I was hoping to be hip length as it would suit the dress better, but i'm not sure that stringy splitty ends will be a good look for me.
Onwards and downwards!

Question about products for you ladies. Now that I am at the length I am, and have decided to keep on growing -- not just maintaining -- do you have any advice for a "cone" addict? I love my cones-- and well I am actually debating getting off them. Also has anyone used the new TRESemme all natural line? Which shampoo/conditioner do you like best? How often do you wash your hair when you exercise? What type of leave ins do you think are best? How do you sleep in your hair? Just a braid or do you use a scarf? Anyone sleep in soft rollers? What do you do when your length becomes too long for the turbie twist for after shower? Does anyone have any recommendations?

I have just tried 3 oil to 1 shampoo. It certainly feels better on my ends. I don't think I would go that far further up my hair as that would make it too oily. The ends feel great on that 3:1 mixture. I will report back when I have tried it a few more times.

Only advice I have from my own disasterous trial-and-error on giving up cones is: give it some time to work, and give it some time between trying new stuff to see what works. Otherwise if after a few months you are left with a rat's nest...it's really ok to keep using cones ;).
I'm not actually trying for tailbone yet, just hip. I am about 1" past waist and I guess about a year away from him with small dustings/trims.

I never missed cones after I stopped using them. My hair was pretty much loving the change. :) Right now I use a shampoo and conditioner from Avalon Organics I think.
Only wash my hair once a week, even if I exercise. Hope I don't smell too bad. XD When I sleep I have it in a high bun. I sleep on my side so it's never in the way. And even at 38 inches it's not too long for a turbie twist, I just need to fold up the ends into the towel before I make the turban. :)

Since i quit the supplements for 6 weeks i barely have any growth, maybe 0.8inch since NYE and that is a lot less than the 1 inch a month or more im used too.
I just bought 1 item of my supplements again but i need 2 more but financials are tight this month so guess i (and my hair) have to wait..
Hopefully the last inch i need to be at hip will grow out soon :D

I need to take a nice picture like you guys have, but I've basically been holding somewhere between hip and waist for a couple of years now. The ends have some bleach damage (I went insane and thought I could die my heavy, dark hair blonde in a single step) and I'm gradually trimming them away.
My goal is classic, so I'm spending a lot more time paying attention to how I care for my hair, now. Other than that, the only real difference for me is that anything past waist length is a point at which I feel more comfortable wearing it up for everyday.

I'm still at BCL with my longest layer, but I am experiencing more breakage. I think it is due to stress, and also the play I am in requires me to put-it-up, take-it-down on the fly, which hasn't helped. I have also been experiencing more knots than usual. Anyone else having this problem? My next micro-trim for the year is April/May. I'm still hoping for a good, solid tailbone by December...!

LadyMydnytMoon (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/member.php?u=28883), it is the very bottom of the spine. On me it is a few inches past BCL, a bit above a chair seat when I'm sitting down.

Question about layers,
Hi ladies , so many beautiful heads of hair. I have been growing my hair out and it was in layers. Not because of a hair cut . I would like to know if eventually the top crown layer will meet the longer underbottom layer. My crown has hairs verying from below mid back to waist and my lower under layer is between hip and tail bone. My hair line creeps along and is just at mid back length.
It seems I look at all the photo's and all of the ladies hair have a top crown meeting very close or even to the under layer. Is this because most of you cut to have layers catch up or have cut at some point a blunt cut.
I quess I just want to know if there is hope that my hair will even out naturally or if a cut will be the only answer. I feel funny claiming tailbone because half of it is still at waist .

I measured today and I am back to 84cm (33.1 in) which is where I was at the end of November 2010 before my large trim in early December 2010. This is 2cm (about 1/2 in) above hip on me.
These measurements are stretched - when left just as it falls, my hair appears to be waist.
I am hoping to hit TB (92cm - 36in) by the end September 2011 or at latest by December 2011.

TBL is the bottom of your tailbone. Slide your finger down your spine til there is no more spine LOL thats TBL. For the average person, I'd say it's about 2 inches past the top of your BC.

I measured yesterday, My longest ends are at 32 inches, which for me is BCL when wet. In the past 10 months since I joined I have averaged 1/2 inch a month. It finally is feeling long and I am beginnig to be able to do some more of the updo's I have found here.

It's funny--waist/hip is when I think of my hair as "finally getting long" too. I've had it a bit longer, and trimmed back to BSL more than once, but the spot between waist and hip is where I start feeling like a real longhair again.

Since yesterday... I´m looking backwards in my mirror... I´ve reached tailbone!!! Yeah!!! :cheese:
It was a very long journey... from pixie to now tailbone... but now all is ok! :happydance:
Congrats Rhea. I am not full any thing right now. Went through a huge shedding time and I have layers. Hoping for full hip if my sloooow poky canopy makes it this year. Then full tailbone next. Hopefully on to Classic and mid thigh.
Your hair looks great!!

TBL is the bottom of your tailbone. Slide your finger down your spine til there is no more spine LOL thats TBL. For the average person, I'd say it's about 2 inches past the top of your BC.
Thats the best clarification yet. Thanks.

My hair recoils about 6 to 7 inches. It will be a long time before I feel it is long. My longest length is about one inch from tailbone an the next longest is hip with the really curly springy length just passing waist. The canopy being the slowest and the shortest. :(
I just don't feel like it is long yet. Maybe when my shortest gets to hip or near tailbone I will call hip.

Well, here's a mini milestone... officially, I am at BCL. Or, you know, the longest bit of hair I have just barely reaches there.
That's most of the way to tailbone, right?

Ravenwaves 88 and Avital88 nice photos! Congrats Hala & luckyduck and to everyone else on their accomplishments here (however small). I said I would post a pic, but I haven't had a chance to shoot a good one so that will have to wait. :)

It's official, I made it to tailbone! I have to stretch out the curl to see it, but it's there. A few more inches and I'll be there unstretched. I'll try and get a picture up soon.

Looks like I have a few inches to go to BCL (stretched, wet), but the bottom layers are WAY longer than the top ones. Starting to look weird - I may have to have the layers cut back in.

I measured yesterday; I'm at 36". :D That's a couple of inches past waist on me. My hair's beginning to brush hip when wet, but it'll be a while before it's there dry.

Me too. :) It's a really lovely feeling.

Wow everyone's hair is growing so fast. Mine grows at a pitiful 0,5 inches in a good month. I think more in the summer. In thwe winter it might be less than 0.5 inches.
I never know if I shoudl measure wet or dry, stretched or unstretched. I have been doing dry and nearly fully stretched and I get 35, fully stretched I get 36+.

Wow, we must all be very busy growing out our hair, this thread was on page seveni this morning! lol
I have a new snap for you - I've made it past BCL FINALLY, and am slowly inching my way towards proper tailbone. I'm due for a microtrim in April. I thought I would NEVER budge from BLC! lol Here's the new length:

I reached waist about a month ago, and I'm heading on to tailbone. My final goal is classic, or possibly terminal, but I'm going for each step at a time. Now that its at waist I'm beginning to feel like I actually have long hair, and I love it so I'm going to keep going. I have about 5 1/2 inches to go till I reach BCL. I have made quite a few changes to my hair care routine in the last couple of months, and I'm seeing a huge difference in the health of my hair. Here's to reaching tailbone not too far in the future.

Gahh, to trim or not to trim! Am definitely at solid TB these days, but my ends are quite thin. Thing is, they're thin for about five inches from the bottom - I've got quite a taper going on atm, my whole braid at the bottom is the thickness of a single strand of it at the top! :( So I'm not sure how much good trimming would do if I don't want to lose a ton of length. Maybe I'll just have to wait for the thickness to grow down.

I understand the dilema, Locksmith, I've got thin ends, too. I'm between BCL and TB now, but I've been doing 5 mm trims on a random, but frequent basis for months now. Anywhere from once a week to once a month, depending on how I'm feeling and how my hair is acting. Did one today, in fact.
I'm still gaining length, slowly, and my hemline is slowly thickening up. When I joined I had just trimmed from nearly BCL to a bit above waist, due to thin ends. The thinning started about BSL. The changes in routine, care and protection that I've learned here are definitely making a difference. I've got new growth that is not breaking off, so the thinning now starts a few inches above my waist. I don't know if I'll ever have a really full, thick, hemline like some members here have, but from the progress so far it will at least be better.

Locksmith and Spindance - I'm so comforted to hear others are having the thin ends dilemma right now. I'm about an inch and a half away from proper TBL (currently at BCL) but those ends are definitely thin. I'm going to micro-trim in April and again in July, and then again in October, and hope this helps a bit. I did no trims at all last year, so this year I'm doing seasonal trims - maybe coinciding with moon phases? Has anyone heard of that?

Have heard of that, but only here at LHC. At which part of the moon phase do you plan on trimming?
I have the thinning ends dilemma aswell. Since I´m sure a self trim would end in disaster, I do need to find a salon again. I´m so tired of looking for one I can trust. :(

I seemed to stall around waist. I think it is because there is so far to go between waist and TBL, it just SEEMS like it is not growing because there are no real markers to judge by. I would measure and always seemed to gain my 1/2 a month. You will be at hip before you know it I bet!
ETA: Also, I also seem to stall at goals because: I am just brushing hip. Ok, I am at hip. Ok, I am a solid hip. Ok, I am getting to the bottom of hip. But they are all still "hip". Same thing has happened at TBL. I still consider myself TBL but I hit it in December.
Hair really does grow slow. SIGH.

hand is at my waist, hair has some bun waves going on, wish it always looked that way. Please ignore everything else about the bad self-portrait. This really was the best I could do. All the other attempts were pictures of my ear.

Im tempted to start Daktarin again too, Im seemingly very stalled at waist at the moment. Really want some growth so I can have blunt ends to grow to TBL :)
