Well, it's very close so I guess you could say that, but I think my, hmm, bc, starts a bit lower than on an average person x)

Plus I usually like to be a little bit past a milestone before I feel comfortable about it, because on a wavier day the ends flip up.

But okay I guess this is around bcl yeah

I feel ya on the calling a milestone once you're past it a bit. That way the days your hair feels short can't make you question if you're really at a milestone or not

I’ve just realized this week my hair is officially waist length. Just another year or two and I’ll be at my goal of hip. I’ve had long hair for a while and only last year set a goal for myself.

Congratz! You'll be at hip before you know it

Honesly Ylva in the years I've been here I've been amazed at the transformation of your bleached hair to your natural hair - so much fuller, more textured, and something special indeed! I love it.

--

Here's my contribution of the day - a "ok fine we're now back at BCL for the ....3rd? time in as many years" photo, now with finally the hem I wanted!

That's so nice to hear! Thank you, baanoo! And your own hemline has indeed improved so much over the years. Altogether, your hair is looking very full and healthy, and I love your colour so much.

Ylva I'm always amazed by the thickness of your 'new' hair.
I was in a similar situation for the length, in the end I deceided to postpone every decision and let it grow till it doesnt upset me.

It really does look like a completely different head of hair!

A wise decision to not do anything in that situation. I've also not done anything about my hair yet; there's no hurry to make any decision after all.

Great hair and great hair length Ylva! I am kind of figuring, like you said, that is a practical length, and I hope to find out with my hair in another year or two. Definitely rich and thick too.

Thank you so much for your kind words, Brandt! This, between hip and BCL, is my favourite length of all that I've experienced, I think. Still, from time to time, I find myself missing longer hair!

I look forward to seeing your hair past hip, too.

You answered your own question in this post :D if you like it and don't have much desire to grow then you have your answer right there

I think I did, yeah. :D The problem is that I still miss longer hair from time to time and keep wondering what my virgin hair would look like at classic, for example.

I agree! Sounds like you've found a length that is comfortable to you!

I did already enjoy this length 10+ years ago, and it seems to be my ideal length for most of my life!

I just cut back from classic to waist. The ends were getting sparse and I never wanted to wear it down. It waves nicely when it’s shorter, too. I think I just enjoy my hair the most when it is waist length.

Baanoo and sarana, your hair is looking beautiful and gives me a little lhcitis that maybe I want to start growing mine past HL :couch:

————
I measured last week at 31 1/4” so juuust past HL and feeling good! I may trim mine before I attend a wedding in June, or grow until my planned August trim and cut back to HL then. Maybe I’ll get the BCL by then? Maybe it will drive me crazy and I’ll trim randomly this summer. However, Summer is great for extra length as it gives more options for updo’s :o

I always enjoy the color of your hair

Thanks. I debate about adding more golden to it, but so many people seem to like this color, so I can't decide. I do use an app to lighten it slightly so it shows better in these progress pix.

How's your growth doing? Last I knew you'd cut it short again.

This method results in even, straight hemline. Like Organically Anna does in this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_t1CnSZnRk) (the cutting starts around 2:20), except I used one more elastic to contain my hair and thus avoided a bit of "freestyling" that I feel she did there.

Thanks for the info and video link. :) Gonna watch that in a few minutes.

Thank you so much! :blossom: I'm sorry it took me so long to reply back!
I used to use olive oil (both straight and a creme); my hair loves olive oil. I stopped doing it because it is so difficult to not let any of the oil touch my scalp or scalp hair, especially for a long time (it takes at least 12 hours for my low-porosity hair to absorb it). I can't let any type of oil touch my skin or I will immediately get a terrible fungal (malassezia) infection--even if I wash the oil off!

Sorry to hear about that allergy. And I often don't reply quickly either, as I try not to hair-obsess, and LHC is like an obsession trigger!

Looking lovely! So good to see you. It's grown a lot since last a length photo popped up - your color is absolutely divine.
[....]
Here's my contribution of the day - a "ok fine we're now back at BCL for the ....3rd? time in as many years" photo, now with finally the hem I wanted!

Thanks. Lots of people say they like the color, so maybe I'll keep it....

I love your hair in that pic! That's the length I want, and very close to the hemline I want. Love the color too.

Ah, my favorite thread. WL-TBL is the most aesthetically pleasing range to me and you all have such beautiful hair :crush: Can’t wait to join you this summer!

Well, summer's kinda here now. ! And I totally agree about the length range. I call it "contouring" when the hair accents body curves but doesn't obscure them. I made a whole Hair Inspo folder on my comp just for perfect-length contouring examples, and a few of you are in it. That length is totally where I want to end up.

I feel ya on the calling a milestone once you're past it a bit. That way the days your hair feels short can't make you question if you're really at a milestone or not

Same here. How does one react when someone posts a barely-there-when-stretched milestone call? I just leave it be.

This, between hip and BCL, is my favourite length of all that I've experienced, I think.

Your hair is wonderful and I think the length is pretty much perfect. Definitely contouring. :)

That's nice and full. Love it, and there should be higher-res pix. :)

I haven't messed with protein treatments, and my hair has come so far that I'm afraid the masking will suddenly stop working. Hair does get old, ya know.... Any advice, or a thread I should look up?

I started a thread about Curlsmith products, as I bought two items of the strengthening (purple) line to try. After first time using the Bond curl treatment, my hair does indeed seem a bit stronger and more "substantial" and shinier! I also used the orange line's moisture replenishing spray next day, as my wave pattern seemed straighter.

I have coconut oil and EVOO, and I will have to do an oil treatment too!

Most of my breakage and splits is at the sides, I guess due to getting more friction and being more susceptible to getting caught in stuff etc. I bought silk pillowcases and will try to be more careful with my hair. It's very hot now, so I will probably keep it up a lot to get it out of my neck!

Hi everyone! Here is my 2-month update:

I trimmed 0.5 inches/1.27 cm from my longest layer and bangs/fringe on April 23rd, so there isn't much progress to show. I'm still having a lot of breakage on the 3 longest layers, but at this point I'm resigned to it.

I marked what I consider "truly" hip-length on my photo. My longest layer reaches the top of my hip bone, but that isn't good enough for me! :wannabe:

Six months ago I was projecting being at TBL at the beginning of this summer, but that won't be happening unfortunately. I'm still just barely BCL after calling it months ago. I think my hair is just extremely slow-growing. I called Hip in March 2023, so my hair has only grown about four inches in a year. I've always known my hair wasn't the fastest, but comparing results year to year has really put it into perspective.

Yeah, same here. My hair grows only like 4 inches a year. I'm also barely BCL, and all my previous projections have been wishful thinking. As of now, I don't expect to reach TBL until at least 1 year from now

Back here after a trim. I cut off 6-7 cm. I'll proobably be at tbl again at the end of summer, but my plan now is to wait till the end of the year for another trim.

Für immer
June 30th, 2024, 10:51 AM
Have trimmed/cut off around 5 cm in total since I dropped out of the no trim challenge.
So now I'm back to 83 cm, which is why I changed my current length status to HL.
I will wait until my hair is at least 85 cm long before I change my status back to BCL.
This is no hardship for me as I'm one of those lucky ones that have fairly fastgrowing hair.

Well would you look at that, my hair must have had a serious growth spurt or something because the very ends are now reaching TBL pulled straight! I think I need to give it a month or at least a couple of weeks before I call it, but that was a very nice surprise to find while I was oiling :D

It is still about an inch away from touching the floor while I sit, and I've seen some folks equate TBL to SDL or "sit-down length," so I guess my tailbone ends a bit higher. I'll take that as a headstart in exchange for my otherwise slow-growing hair ;)

Hey everyone, long time no post. Hope y'all are doing well :)
I wanted to post an updated length shot to this forum since it has been over a year! I also just trimmed an inch off in June so the ends look a lot nicer. Considering trimming another half inch to inch, but I also promised myself I wouldn't trim again until Christmas time. My goal is classic which is another year and a half away with the trimming schedule I've been keeping up with. Recently I've had to start learning new hairstyles because of damage from wearing the same nautilis bun to work everyday (oops) but it has been fun wearing more braid styles and half ups! Although my hair grows slowly I'm happy with the progress I've made. That is my cat Pepper looking at me in the photo :kitten:

In the shower yesterday my hair was at solid TBL completely soaked. However, I decided to plop and scrunch my waves (I don't usually put in the effort to define them) and when they dried they were between HL and BCL. Definitely threw me for a loop! Still waiting for the moment it feels right to call TBL.

Thank you Fethenwen, Estrid and Kelp! I relate to a lot of you on this thread, my hair only grows 4-4.5 inches a year. And because my hair is fine it damages easily and I need to cut at least 1" off each year leaving only 3" of growth potential a year. But that's ok! I've learned to stop obsessing so much about growth and focus on overall healthy of my hair. And the thickness is travelling down as a result :) Fellow slow growers unite!

WitchoftheWood, lovely hair and lovely cat! Maybe he's jealous of your long hair, looking admirably.

Lately I've realized that I, too, probably have some damage from wearing the same nautilus bun every day, as my hair is super fine and fragile. I guess there's no truly protective style for wearing all the time and you just have to switch it up regularly. (Except maybe a silk cap or something)

Kelp, congrats! I'm excited for you. :)

In hairy news chez baanoo, I'm creeping along towards TBL at a casual rate and since I completely missed the summer solstice length photo am going to try and get one between now and the equinox. I did a little s+d last week for the first time since my big cut last October and probably could stand to do another round. I've been using the four reasons apricot (https://www.fourreasons.us/products/color-mask-apricot) color hair mask about once a month and am happy with the results, though I'm tempted to buy the next step up in intensity and try the copper... :ponder:

In truth, I've been really uninspired to give time to my hair so it's been basic styles all year and I think this urge for a change is partially a desire to feel fresh for a new season!

I just measured my hair on a whim, I haven't done that in a long time because I find it imprecise because of my super fairytailed ends.

It was about 99cm from hairline (34in). SSS the germans would call it.
86cm from my part. (That's the actual length of the longest hair strands.)

I had some stats from 1 year ago, and was pleased to notice that my hair had measurably grown over 10cm (4in). So even though it's slow-ish, it's growing. By new year 2026 I could be at classic! Wild. But I must not get ahead of myself, I'll just let it be and see how it grows.

Gorgeous hemline, pisinoe! I think the v-cut suits your length and density really well :D

pisinoe I love your hemline and hair colour! :D

Super beautiful i really love your shine!

Thank you guys so much ! I've been feeling bad about my hemline as I have been really craving a straight, thick one for the 19405th time again, but this gives me motivation to hold onto my hair longer until I get to my goal length

So, I tried a new shampoo e leave in and they both made my hair very shiny. On the downside, my scalp is getting greasy way faster.
In a few weeks I'll be a TBL again. The angle is kinda weird, but I'm actually very surprise by the fullness of the ends and overall by the healthy hair I've aquired. In my mind I still am the one with very damaged bleached hair. My heart has not understood that my hair is healthy now.
The nex time I'll trim I'll remove all the bleach, but I don't think I'll trim anytime soon. I was thinking maybe next spring. I don't know which length I would like to have. And since it's so healthy I don't know how much I actuallyy need to trim.

It's really remarkable how much your hair has changed over the last few years, Bri. So healthy, pretty - I think you could definitely get away with putting off a trim til spring.

Haven't posted my hair in a while ! Here is an update, almost or back to the previous length before I cut it in April!

Honestly, you're the queen of shine herself!
(I also love you with a V-shaped hem)

Hi everyone,

I havent been on this forum for ages and i had just done a little trim on my ends as they were a bit damaged from the sun. Then i remembered this forum. And i looked at my last picture and realized i have been stuck at the length i am at for AGES!!! I want it to change, so here is to change and finally reaching TBL!

Happy growing for all fellow growers!
Welcome back! Those are the cutest braid waves! Happy growing and cheers to a new chapter for a new season. :)

It always feel so good to have a little data to back up a suspicion. You've got nearly a meter of hair now and that's got to be exciting in of itself!

Hi team, sorry to be double posting - but I took a seasonal photo today and am starting to feel a little better about the ~waves hands around~ whole situation over here. I've been super stressed and not taking the best care of my hair over the summer and was starting to feel like I must be in a complete stall.

https://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=50149&d=1726586025

compared to late May:
https://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=49926&d=1715862656

The vertical distance between the yoke on the back of my jeans and the top left corner of the pocket is right about 2", so, while not breathtaking speed by any measure, is still some progress.

This might have been the first time I have blown out my hair since I took the last photo! (in which I am wearing the same outfit, ha).

I had hoped that by winter solstice I would be back at TBL but that was definitely aspirational unless I have a bit of a jump!

Glad to hear you say so. For the last several months, my days have been so long and tiring that I am pretty sure I was averaging a weekly combing if that - I know for a fact there were several wash rounds without detangling before or after, yikes.

Things are settling down some now, at least mentally, so I've been getting back into some proper caretaking.

Hey gang. I'm trying to be patient. I've got one month left until I've gone a full year without trimming, just a little bit of S&D (most of which is not right at the ends). Thing is, I've only gained 3.5 inches. Really hoping for a big spurt to make it to 4 by mid-October when I had my last cut a year ago, so I can feel like I'm in the "normal" range of growing speed.

I did have a rough year with a lot of work stress and was also sick for most of the summer due to mold in the home, which has just been taken care of. This was my first year measuring, so I'm hoping that it's just slow from my rough year and that next year will be better. <3

I am once again joining this chat. I had hip length back in 2021 but then Spring of 2022 cut back to SL. I am now just past WL with a long term goal of classic, but I think having some milestone celebrations along the way will help me out.
I have figured it up and if my growth keeps on track and I baby my ends so I don't lose much length I can hit my 'classic' goal a little bit before the time I turn 40 in a few years. This has now become my goal. "Classic by 40". It will hopefully keep the long term goal in my mind and maybe dissuade me from impulse cuts that have haunted my previous growth attempts. So far I have never made it past hip.

So as of now, 9/24 I am sitting at 29inches

I’ve been there! Rough years are rough all over. I also - and maybe you’re more skilled than I am! - generally have a hard time measuring accurately and instead just take quarterly photos to estimate change. A number doesn’t mean anything really; “normal” is just the most common and often a little overrated. Keeping my fingers crossed for you and hoping you can let go of stress about your hair! Xx

Back to BCL! I just got 1.5 inches (3.8cm) taken off.

It was so necessary. I thought my hair was growing extremely slowly (I'm talking three inches this year) until I got bangs. Having to trim the bangs out of my eyes constantly made me realize that the peroxide damage to my ends was worse than I thought and that it was breaking faster than it was growing. I was masking my split ends with oils and conditioners but clarifying really brought them all out.

This has been my biggest trim since my growth journey started but I'm proud of myself for not obsessing over it or my goals. 1.5 inches seemed like a lot with how slowly my hair was growing, but I think this is going to open up the opportunity for more progress now that I'm not fighting that breakage. Yay!

Baanoo, thanks for your encouragement and advice. You may well be right about difficulty with accurate measuring being an issue here, because either I previously mismeasured, or I had a mega inch spurt in the last month. Though I did start eating "normal food" for the first time in years after a highly restrictive diet after solving food sensitivity issues, AND I had the first bone under the skull pushed back into place that had been apparently out of whack for years. The human body is a mystery, so who knows.

Here is my 1yr progress picture. I lined it up the best I could and wore the same dress. Although I had a lot of breakage while trying to do the medieval combing method (on hair damaged by too much sun) when I couldn't shower due to the mold issue, so the ends have thinned, as most of that breakage is back-center on the top layer, mostly around neck level or so. Some may also be from twisting into buns and pinning? I'm going to just do braids for a while to avoid any more higher up breakage over the next year since it's clearly fragile.

Despite these setbacks, I've gone from 28 inches to 32.5 doing just S&D thoroughly in the spring and again last week for fall.

The photos still have some wave, but when pulled taut, it's maybe an inch or two from BCL. But the ends of my hair are less than a pinky width thick, so it's not like a ton of my hair is that long yet.

Overall, I really can't complain.https://d.img.vision/pictures111/20241015_154702.jpg

Für immer & Bat, thank you both very much! It looks that nice for about five minutes after I've smoothed it down, and then its wurliness starts to reawaken, and the haphazard sections of broken pieces start to reach out into the air, in every direction they can, with their fuzzy little fingers of frizzy-floof. :bounce: I'll eventually find a conditioner that works with my wurliness again! Until then, it goes back in the braid, hahahaha.

Nice growth, Für immer! :)

I have a hairdresser appointment on Friday! It might see the last of my bleach damage on the floor. Definitely will, if I decide to cut back up to hip again. I don't have any particular goal with my hair right now other than maintain it at a place where it feels the most me, and is relatively practical, and that hasn't been much longer than hip since the summer of 2023. I will also cut my face-framing bits back in, I really like those!

Am contemplating whether I should do a no trim challenge for all of 2025, just because I'm curious about how much my hair actually grow without the trims.
Would still do the occasional S&D.

Bangs are very nice, although bit of a pain to maintain. Basically the only reason I "hate" having them right now is because they require more frequent washes. And I'm a Sloth, with a capital S, so yeah...

I'm very happy with the results of my appointment! I got some more face-framing layers cut in (almost to the point of having curtain bangs, perhaps, with the shortest ones still reaching my usual bun on top of my head), some 5 cm removed from the ends, my entire hair dusted, and my hemline shaped back into a U-ish form.

The jury is still out there, but I've not spotted any clearly bleached section in my hair anymore. It blended into the photobleached hair anyway. I will try take a picture soon!

I wouldn't have minded if she took a bit more off of the ends, taking me back up to solid hip. I am still between hip and BCL, I think.

Sounds like you had a good experience then. Happy for you. :bounce:
Wish I could trust hairdressers enough to trim my ends, but alas...

Well, next time evrything will be definitely gone. I was relief to read your face-framing layers still reach your usual bun, it's been almost an year since I cut some curtain bangs and I'm not at that point yet.

Thank you! :) Yes, it's always nice visiting this hairdresser! She's super affordable and we always have nice talks. Except that she badmouthed drummers this time around and I'm one

I am fortunate to have found hairdressers that respect my wishes. :) But I do have my fair share of awful experiences with them also... Not really with cutting too much, though.

Yep, definitely. But I think I will still consider this the end of my growing-out-bleach journey - unless I find some obvious chunk of bleach in there still.

I guess you wear the buns at the back of your head? That would indeed take a lot longer. My shortest fringe bits reach just below my cheekbones and they just about reach the bun I always put my hair in.

I do. I find high buns make my roots look oily faster for some odd reason.

That's good. :)

Yeah, one had chopped my hair rather unevenly six years ago. Was crying as soon as I came home. After that, I was like "never again!" :disgust:

Ah, I see. I find the opposite since the roots are more lifted in the top-of-the-head position. But it doesn't matter so much to me since I wash my hair so often!

I'm not sure if she was, but I'd imagine so, because we've talked about my music in the past and she knows well the group I'm in. Her comment was regarding the brother of her recently deceased ex. Apparently, the brother was always jealous of her ex because he wanted to be a musician but couldn't (unlike the ex who was a bassist), "not even a drummer". She herself doesn't even play anything so  But anyway, if you make a non-drummer play a percussion instrument, in my experience, it doesn't tend to sound very good either, and not everyone has an inclination to rhythm in the first place. I've heard many people who, even with a lot of work put into it, wouldn't be very good drummers!

I did invite her to our gig on Thursday since it's rare we play in that city, but now I don't know if it would be anything enjoyable for her since she also said she cannot stand "campfire guitarists" anymore after hearing someone play Beethoven on the guitar. Well, our guy isn't a virtuoso by any means so I guess it'll be just suffering for her  Oh well!

If she was, then that is very strange in my opinion.
So, just because this one person was jealous and such, it somehow is drummers fault? What logic...

Wish I could play the drums, I've always loved the sound.
dmittedly, have never really tried it, and I imagine it would cost a fortune (lessons wouldn't be cheap either).
Indeed. Haven't really gotten to start with my violin yet, but it sounds like cats scratching on blackboards.

Well, if I had been in Finland, I'd have loved to go. :agree:

Beethoven on guitar? What was wrong with that? Classical music is always open for interpretation, isn't it? :p

Yeah, that's no good! :( No wonder you're very hesitant about them.

Yup. So if ever I were to go to one, it would only be after recommendation from someone whose judgment I trust. ;)
A friend who was doing the "frisörslinjen" in high school(?) got the honor of evening it up. And since she was still learning (and needed more experience in cutting shorter hairstyles), I got the haircut (Rizzo from Grease) for a cheaper price too.
So we both got something out of it in the end.

Yeeep, apparently all drummers are the least skilled of all musicians and only play drums because they can't play anything else

It always sounds awful in the beginning when you are just getting started with something! But the fun thing about starting a new instrument is that progress comes really quickly at first! You are like a whole new player almost every week.

Ah yes, the Beethoven guitarist was so good, according to her, that because of that, she can no longer stand anyone worse, was what I meant. :D So she seems to have set her standards for enjoying live music very high! Which is a kind of a pity, because live music is always the complete experience, not just virtuosistic skill at an instrument...

Well, Rizzo is a fun and cute hairstyle for sure! :) So sounds like that at least was a positive experience overall.

I just have to chime in and say that personally, I think that drums are one of the most complicated instruments to play, because you're doing totally different things with four limbs sometimes, and you really have to rewire your brain to effectively do so many different things at once, and still keep the rhythm going strong for everyone. It's like trying to "pat your head and rub your tummy" but also doing something else with each foot, hahaha! I don't know how anyone could think it's simple, to be honest! I briefly had the opportunity to take about a month's worth of beginner "lessons" in 2020 with my now husband, and wow, hahaha, it's a challenge! Very fun, though, and I would practice again if the opportunity presents itself. Our apartment now is too small for a set, but it was very fun. Drummers always get a little extra respect from me! So, I tip my hat to you! Hahaha!

Also, Ylva, congrats on the end of the bleach damage phase! I'm sure that's a very satisfying milestone. I've got a lot of "sunbleached" damage that I just started growing out a year ago, so it'll be around a while still. I did no-trim for the whole last year, except for some heavy S&D once in the spring and once in September. But, I've had so much breakage this year that the ends are starting to thin quite a bit, to where you can see through a lot of it now. So, I think that once I finish my no trim 2024 challenge at the end of this year, I'll start doing a half-inch trim every 3 months, to start thickening the hemline back up slightly, while still growing. I think that'll prevent me from getting stressed enough about my hemline to do a dreaded impulse cut, which I'm prone to when I'm not happy with my hair.

Für immer, 13cm is impressive for that timeframe! I hope I can get that much in the next year!

Lucy McLucyface, firstly, what an awesome name! Secondly, your hair looks so pretty! I love how the V cut looks with all that wonderful fluffy fullness!

Finally my hair feels long enough again, and I have gotten the urge to get to tailbone once more. Let's do this now. I've been here too long, and never got to it. Time to break the milestone! I will try to go a year without cutting my hair, so have at least until April. Hopefully six months will be enough time!

What’s the extent and how did the sun damage happen for you? I seek out sun to get natural highlights for my hair, air dry in the sun and spend several hours a day outdoors with my hair uncovered in the summer months…. So curious what your experience is/how your hair has changed. I also live in northeast USA so the sun exposure is much less harsh than other parts of the world.

Don't worry, you will get to TBL sooner than you think! I know that being at the same length for a long time can be very frustrating. Because, I've been at WL for a whole year now, and now I am wanting to see another milestone! Again, don't worry. We got this!

So curious what your experience is/how your hair has changed. I also live in northeast USA so the sun exposure is much less harsh than other parts of the world.

It's from exactly the same process of trying to get natural lightening that you are describing, but I do have pretty fine and delicate hair to begin with, so it may not be as extreme for others with stronger or thicker hair. I spent probably two years sitting with my hair in midday sun during my lunch break the whole warm part of the year, as well as an occasional hour or two on weekends. It's not super obvious in my recent photos, but I'll have to share some where the lighting makes the color difference between the sun-bleaching and the new growth more obvious. I've had a slow growing year, so there are only about four inches of new growth since last October. The top/back portion of my hair got noticeably lighter, and just far more prone to breakage, especially from brushing, which I unfortunately had to do a lot of when I had a mold issue in my bathroom and resorted to excessive brushing while doing the medieval combing method, which heavily relies on brushing out a homemade dry shampoo and brushing it out once or twice a day, and using a very fine comb as well. I had trouble doing that gingerly enough to not cause a lot of damage, unfortunately. I don't think that much damage would have happened if I hadn't had so much mechanical damage this summer. And along with that I do have hard water, which seems to be problematic for me. I've been trying to be better about changing the sediment filter under the house regularly, and have started doing apple-cider-vinegar-water-rinses which make my hair feel way smoother.

Along with that, the most sun exposed area in the top/back of my head is also the curliest part of my hair, since childhood, making it doubly delicate. It's a little bit frustrating because the longest part of my hair, the layer at the bottom that is naturally less curly and also the least sun exposed, is the healthiest part, and the places that need actual trimming are WAY up high, including big sections at the back of my head that are as high up as my neck and higher, in uneven patterns. So, trimming my hemline actually will be trimming the healthiest part while waiting years for the upper "self-created layers" to grow out. I ought to take a picture of those "layers" one of these days to show all the breakage and how obnoxious it is, hahaha. And I also have actual layers that I'd cut in two years ago when I was regularly doing the curly girl method, to try and get a certain look. Those are more visible and look normal. Overall, it looks okay enough when it's all smoothed down, just thinner at the ends than I'd like, and less manageable overall. I'm determined to slowly have it grow out healthier and have a more blunt hemline, and thicker, like it was a year ago. Enough that I'm willing to let it grow slower for that sake, but I do still want to at least keep heading for tailbone, and then maybe I'll maintain there a while before trying for classic, which is my long term goal. We'll see!

Hi, I have no business lurking around these upper echelons of LHC but I thought I'd win in some advice from the pros. I'm BSL high porosity 2C-ish hair with often brittle ends. My whole life Ive tried growing it long, longest its ever been was waist. But that was before LHC.. So, I know it can grow, but I need to copy some of the routines from you guys if you're willing to share!

I usually use CG-friendly shampoos and conditioners but wanted to know if I should start clarifying. My question is, how often do you clarify, and is it all of your hair or just the scalp? Do you oil your hair? Scalp or just ends? How often, and which oil? I only finger comb and wear a bonnet at night. I used to always get a trim but if I do that, itll never grow longer than shoulders. Do you guys trim? Is there any other secret action i am unaware/ignorant of of that could help my hair grow long and healthy?

Sorry for barging in and demanding so much! Hoping to one day add to your ranks :D

Thank you in advance :))

I do think that musicians themselves do not have this "drummers are the least gifted musicians" mindset at all! Instead, they know that a good drummer is something to really appreciate.

Thank you so much! After some evaluation, I do think that all of my bleach is now as good as gone. Sun-bleaching does do a number on the hair as well - you can really tell when you compare that kind of hair with one that's much less touched by the sun. But the effect on the colour is so nice and multi-dimensional!

I am perhaps not the ideal person to answer your question since I am not actively trying to get my hair longer at the moment and instead, I am maintaining between hip and BCL. But I have had my hair close to knee-length in the past, so there's that at least. :)

I think everyone (broadly, there's always one exception here and there) should clarify from time to time! For someone, it's once a week, and for another, it's once a year, but I do think everyone (again...) will face that need at some point. Have a go at it and see how it makes your hair feel!

Hi Evangely! Paulownia is correct, as is Ylva - most hair benefits from clarifying. The TBL+ thread is a good one. :) In general, I don't like the CG-friendly s+c because I am team sulfate/team silicone. I trim about once a year.

Believe it or not, I finally made it to the waist-tbl party! My ends are slowly starting to thin and the major shed I had in August didn’t help, but luckily it’s still looking pretty good overall.
These pants show how close my waist and hips are, so I’m hoping for HL this spring… the question is whether to stick to my 6 month trim schedule or extend it until I get to hip (and probably trim in April instead of January)

I haven’t coloured anything for two whole years (this month is my anniversary)! The henna has faded a lot over time and my ashy brown somehow has a bit of red in it too as it turns out  so it’s been a very smooth transition, not gonna lie. Hello lovelies! I doubt anyone remembers me, as I wasn't active for very long before falling off the face of the planet, but I wanted to pop in to say that I'm back!

I took a long break from LHC while I was pregnant. Now that my little one is here, I'm feeling energetic enough to pay more attention to hair care again.

I cut in some long bangs and some long layers this summer, and I have no regrets!. Currently my longest layer is at BCL. The plan is to grow out the shortest layer (excluding the bangs) to TBL, then cut the whole thing back to TBL and maintain until I'm satisfied enough with my hair's health to keep growing! End goal is elven/metal, whatever length that is.

So fun to see the progress everyone has made while I was gone!

Welcome back and congratulations!

Sounds like a great game plan

Sounds like a great game plan

Thanks! We'll see if I stick with it or choose some other approach later on.

In an unexpected turn of events, I went and checked my length and turns out my longest layer is currently TBL?? The shortest layer is HL, and my braid tassel is BCL!

I'm going to wait to call it until the shortest layer catches up, then I'll cut everything back to TBL and continue onwards! Hoping to post a length shot soon :) It's surreal that even some of my hair is only one milestone away from the goal length I've had for so long
