That's not too bad! Congrats on having an idea of when you'll hit it. :)
Sometimes it's helpful to try and calculate. It makes the waiting game seem less long.

I just tried to measure my hair. I got 34 inches to the very tippy tips, pulled straight. Measuring the thinner ends that have grown without trimming for two years is difficult.. but if I don't measure to the tips, I will not get a consistent measurement. Anyway, I can visually see it has grown too, compared to my body and clothing. When I wear high waisted skirts or dresses belted at the natural waist, my hair definitely looks waist length already.

I also measured to the tippy tips, and I even cut my hair more recently. I measure three times and do an average, old slightly obsessive habit from primary school... All three times ended up being about the same anyways.

How tall are you? I'm 176 cm/5 ft 9 (I think), and I believe I measured 31 inches last time. That's hip on me, apparently. Maybe I have a short torso? Idk..

Joliebaby
May 29th, 2023, 06:27 AM
I'm 168 cm. I don't have a particularly long or short torso, just average I think.
I think 34 inches, when I pull on it, is probably closer to top of my hip bones, but due to my waves it now looks waist length, the ends hand around my belt line.. I don't have proper length shots from the back so it's hard to tell exactly. I could ask DD to take a pic sometime..

No, sorry! Strike that! It was 84.5 cm, and that converts to 33.3 inches. Makes more sense ;) I think you're officially at hip, or if not very close!

I have been growing and got to 34 inches just past hip... every now and then I consider cutting it as it was getting heavy and I sometimes felt burdened to wash and dry hair. I would do the two week rule and make it and thank myself for not falling for temptation to cut. Anyway i ended up cutting my hair in a semi state of tiredness and felt immediate relief followed by instant regret.

Its now waist length with heavy layers from below jawline down. I must admit it looks great considering i did it at home but I miss my big coily buns...

I havent measured but I would think its around 30 in my longest layers and like 10 at the front.

Thank you for the kind response. It does feel much lighter. and as though my hair is much much shorter but when I look in the mirror it still looks pretty long from behind. Its a really odd sensation. I think I only felt like it was genuinely long in the last month now it feels really short again. Not sure how i will feel in 6 months.

There isn't much experimentation. The volume of hair is completely different. At least I can do a half decent messy bun again!;)

The technique i used was here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ykkLUsJPdtk&t=1s

Except i cut from the middle of my chest up to my chin:hmm:

Hope you feel good about your cut after some time! It's good to change things up once in a while, and it doesn't sound like you did a lot of "damage". Luckily, hair grows back :grouphug:

Very nice! You're almost there, probably. Mine was 84,5 cm last month, and I'm at hip with a tall body. Can't wait to measure again in a week! (Why did I choose the 8th for monthly measurements? Such an odd date..)

I used a similar technique for years, and have watched that video before when trying to decide how to trim. I am growing out the layers now, but think I may keep the layers around the front. Mine also start around chin around my face, but I have grown out the layers in back to about APL or more.

Your hair is a bit thicker than mine from your stats, but a cut like this always does wonders for my waves and volume when wearing down.

I´ve chosen 9th, so I´m in your club :D Well, it was a wash day, pretty much the only day my hair is stick-straight (not affected by braids or buns) and I wanted to get the measurement asap, so here I am, measuring on 9th... I expect at the next measurement I will have passed 80 cm, and I will call that hip then...

I am calling hip :happydance: First milestone since joining LHC.
(I uploaded today´s picture into my album "Hair today" in my profile, if anyone would like to take a peek, please don´t judge my *lack of* thickness, my genes are what they are.)
I´ve been at hip at least once, maybe twice in my life (never measured it before), but not longer, so from now on I´m entering uncharted territory, but I do look forward to it. This length finally feels long-long to me. I´m not trimming in the foreseeable future, maybe I will just a tiny bit when I reach some other milestone, like classic. I don´t have long to go to BCL, maybe 5 cm or so - I did not measure very accurately.

I believe I have two more inches before I call hip.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I thought TBL was when you sit and the hair touches the floor. The tailbone would be touching the floor, so that's how I figure others measure.

I haven´t really given it a thought yet, probably (surely) there is an explanation somewhere on this site, but I did not look it up, because I sort of just can feel with my fingers where the spine ends and for me, it happens to be exactly in the middle between top of BCL and where the bum meets the thigh (so classic). But it is an interesting way of measuring by sitting on the floor, I will try that when the time comes (hopefully sometime around Christmas).

I'm currently between WL and HL- I'll have to grab my actual measurements and post a pic soonish.
I've been so terribly bad about getting length shots this grow-around.

I cut from TBL to SL in May 2021 after a car accident left me feeling kinda messed up, and have left it mostly untouched ever since save for my trims to get rid of splits.
Delirious me actually did a decent job cutting, but once it started to grow out, I realized I'd cut one side an entire inch shorter than the other. Oops lol.

Almin, TBL isn’t super clear from an outside perspective, you kind of have to… feel for it yourself. It’s usually around where the top of the butt crack is, and you will probably be able to feel where the bone at the bottom of your spine is. For me, it’s kind of between hip and BCL, like an inch or two above BCL. It’s pretty subjective, so I think wherever it feels right for you to call it, is just fine. Or even just skip that milestone if it’s too confusing :)

I took 2 length shots this month, after a trim and before I wasn’t sure if I was going to trim. I thought I took 1/2” off, but the length looks the same, just a deeper U maybe.

I took a step further from the camera to get a better look at the next milestone.

I wonder how much further to calling HL? I feel close, since it is at my elbows. For eference, I am about 1 1/2” passed WL, but it shrinks up depending on the waviness. I’m thinking maybe just 1” or 1 1/2” to HL! Any opinions?

Congrats on your new milestone! Thank you for the hair update! So, you have reached your long-term goal! I remember when I first joined here at LHC back in 2010 I had set my long-term goal length at HL but as I've learned to how to take better care of my hair I have exteneded it to terminal length in which I don't know where that is. Your hair is always sooooooooooooo beuatiful, shiny, and healthy looking! :) Keep up the good work!

Thank you for the kind words everyone! Ylva I'd say we are hair twins! Seeing how long your hair has gotten gives me hop that I can reach classic length one day. I'm American but both sides of my family are Finnish so I take a lot of inspiration and hair care tips from the Finnish ladies on this website. Unsure if I'll do a trim now so I can join the 6 month no trim challenge or if I'll wait to trim until I'm well past TBL. Happy growing everyone!

Yes, I thought to remember you writing in the past that you had close Finnish heritage! I wouldn’t worry about reaching classic in your case, you don’t look to be anywhere near your terminal length.

That comment, about not looking near terminal length, sent me down the rabbit hole of terminal length threads. And when I came across MoonRabbit´s comment here https://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=130732&page=2 I just couldn´t resist and I did the calculation (the linear graph) for myself. I found out that with every 10 cm of length I loose a 1 cm from the ponytail circumference. Based on that taper measurements, I have about 20 cm to grow before I reach 0. Another 20 cm on me is around classic, so I am assuming (of course I know it´s hardly a precise or a very realistic method) that classic length will be terminal on me (with more i than ii thickness it might be true). I don´t plan on trimming at at till summer next year, when I should be reaching that length, so I guess I will see in a year...

I’ve read about this here when I first joined, but never did any of the calculations. I have too many layers to graph ponytail circumference, but once I have cut those out I will definitely try! Using the other method, which is calculated using sheds per day, hairs on head, and growth rate, I have to guess at 2 of those so went with the averages. My terminal would be tailbone length (36” measuring LHC way). I actually assumed my terminal length would be around there, because of how much taper I had when I grew my hair past HL as a teenager. Interesting, even if it is just an estimate.

Nefcerka, you sent me down a rabbit hole :'DD

As a scientist, I could not resist the siren call of tables and graphs, so I did some measuring. I took the thickness right below every hair tie.

https://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=49200&d=1688397682

Then I made it into a graph. The red line with blue dots represents my actual hair, which indeed ends exactly at 86 cm. The other ones are wishful scenarios I just visually estimated might be possible if I could decrease the amount of tapering.

Oh, and I'm going to finally call waist. I think it's time.

re: rosenester - I understand, having layers makes that method not possible to use (I don´t have any). And the other method you mention, well, that sounds too complicated, I´m not that bored to try it :D Just having fun, cannot take those estimations seriously. Who knows, maybe you and I will be able to grow beyond what mathematics dictates, I will keep my fingers crossed for you! :)
re: Bat - you are welcome :) I don´t know who the author was either, but possibly you are referring to Igor (Bells towers or something like that)?
re: sarana - now that is an impressive chart! :applause I didn´t actually make one for myself, as it was pretty straightforward 10 cm length = 1 cm circumference loss, calculation was easy. You seem tall, if your hair is 86 cm at hip (I am 80 cm at hip). I hope that in reality my hair will keep growing, and obsessing about ways to make it thicker or longer really makes me happy :rolling:
ETA: sarana, looks like waist to me, congratulations!

I'm very average at 166cm (5'5) but I'm all torso and no legs :p It's funny how individual proportions affect how our hair length is perceived.

I'm glad you seem optimistic about the possibilities of your hair and enjoy the journey!

Hi everyone! I think I have been away from this forum for many months, i kind of got a bit tired of obsessing over my hair, and just let it be basically since it just was growing so intensely slow. But I must say, I think I've finally made my next milestone! Hip! Now onto the next far-away milestone haha... this whole lower back area is just extremely far for hair to surpass! But i'm quite happy I got to hip now.
The photo isnt the best quality but I couldnt wait to the next day to make a better photo in better lighting.

Also, are there any individual growth threads left? Or is this thread just an all-in-one thread until tailbone length?

Happy growing everyone!

There's also the Hip to TBL thread, which overlaps with this one but if you like the smaller threads it's there. BCL and TBL are kind of weird milestones so not everyone uses one/the other/both which I think is why they're kind of combined like this. Some folks have a harder time knowing where BCL or TBL are on their bodies, so they're a little more amorphous.

After this there's a little treat of TBL-> classic as a small thread, but after classic there are only big threads.

Thank you for your reply! Yes you're right about the milestones being a bit harder to know on one's body. This combination thread seems like a good solution to that!

Yes, I'd say one inch or one and half at most, and you are at hip!

Yes, I'd say one inch or one and half at most, and you are at hip!

Thanks Joliebaby, I find whatever measurement I decide to call the next milestone, I usually need to let it grow another 1/2” to 1” so it “looks” that length when wavy, but I “call it” stretched. I think for me 31” should be Hl which is just over an inch from now like you suggest. Thanks for confirming!

Waveurly, your hair is so pretty, is the color a natural gradation from sun lightening or have you grown out color? Also, your hem is so neat, to you trim it regularly while growing? :crush:

AuroreVesperale, Your hair is also so pretty! There is so much of it, I can’t tell where for body markers it is resting, but definitely WL or longer! Your waves are wonderful, but are you sure they are 1c/2a? It looks much wavier/wurlier than that to me, but I am no expert (i need to retype my own as well)

I'm at waist currently, but I'm interested in keeping a consistent hemline, so I'm getting a trim yearly. I'm still in the HL-TBL zone and wearing my hair down a lot of the time. I'm really happy with it. Doing little 1cm trims perhaps every other month. My adventurous ends are exploring new environments, such as objects in my lap, the floor beside the bed, and the inside of my dress or cardigan when I tuck them in front. I feel like in a few inches' time this experience will change again and I may finally start wearing it in a plait most of the time...

barnet_fair, do you think having C strands allows for you to wear it down more? How is your experience with tangles wearing it down vs. contained?

I think having C strands must be preventing a whole set of problems, such as intense tangling, matting, and flyaways - when my hair is happy and well-moisturised (or at least tamed with oils, which looks good because it's dark) it stays together in one mass quite well and it only tangles at the ends if they're dry. I do put it up in a quick bun or low ponytail for cleaning/cooking, and if I'm going out into the wind or rain it'll usually be in a plait. Otherwise it's often loose over one shoulder - it's got the length and weight to stay in front even when I'm walking around. I think F hair would likely tangle at the nape with the number of times I'm moving it from one shoulder to the other.

That said, I have been in this thread for about five years.

Incredible, isn't it? Lately I'm being so busy I didn't notice. My routine too, is quite minimal now, so much that I don't know what to do with several products anymore. In this situation where you have so many things to do and so little time you understand what's essential, for hair too.

This time around, I'm going to let my scraggle ends live it's best life, until I can cut into a one length bob

I quite get you, I've cut my hair off 10 times by now to perfect my hemline since I joined haha. But I have decided to wait until I get to my goal now and then I'll just maintain. I can have patience until then and use these as sacrificial ends. What matters is that we'll get there eventually, right?

I will join the chorus and say your ends look great! Your hair is so shiny too

I echo the others, your ends have nothing wrong.

Thank you both! I think outside of LHC, people tend to be a lot more harsh on the state of hair ends and that really gets to my head. But I try to take care of my hair as much as possible and then I'll just be patient for now.

Saw your pre-trimmed hemline. I'd say maybe the ends were slightly (very slightly) uneven, but there was nothing wrong with them in my opinion.
Looks great. And like how shiny your hair is. :)

My hair ‘felt long’ today, it’s strongly clearing the mermaid length from the front, and touching my belly button when slouched in a comfy chair. I decided to measure a few days early, and I grew a solid 1/2” 2 months in a row- so my feelings are correct! Sometimes it takes me 4 months to grow an entire inch

Being 30 1/2” & 2”+ passed WL makes me feel less of a long hair imposter!

I think I am in ‘long enough’ territory for me to do a full year of proper maintaining to truly get at least the nape hairs virgin roots to tips. :hmm: Will I bow out of the 6 month no trim challenge out of excitement to get closer to no bleach, or wait it out so I can cut 2” of bleach at once — though that sounds scary to cut that much after growing so carefully with microtrims for 2 years :eyebrows:

That's some really impressive growth, Für immer!

I find it super weird now that the shape of my cut is like an inverted bob - that the front sections are longer than the back ones. It doesn't feel "logical" to me at all after so many years of naturally shaped hair. Sure, I like the blunt ends after years of fairytale ones, but something about this shape just doesn't feel right to me! I wonder how long my hair would need to be for the front sections to reach their terminal length so that the shape could be logical? I'm not into the thought of cutting in layers, and I did request a U hemline, but it's not deep enough to fix this "issue".

Thank you, Ylva. When it's your own hair you don't really notice it growing, right? So was fun to look through the pictures and realizing that, indeed, your hair has grown. :D
Which will make it interesting to see what kind of growth it will have been at the end of the year since I'm currently partaking in the no trimming for second half of the year challenge.

Seems like my hair grew a ton overnight! I was oiling it just now and noticed my movements getting longer, so I did a quick grab test and... We're at waist. We're definitely at waist.
I'm avoiding length shots for the lil benign neglect no trim challenge I'm on so I don't really have a picture for you all.

I'm finally starting(teeniest bit) to feel like myself again. No idea why I keep trying out shorter lenghts if I'm only comfortable with hip+.

Nice work cadaverinna and Für immer! Keep on working towards your hair goals, it always feels good hitting a new goal or milestone and noticing the progress overtime.

Speaking of which... I'm at tailbone length now!!! HOORAY :joy: !!! I had my partner measure and photograph my hair yesterday and it is 36.25" (1/4" over TBL for me) which is my biggest hair goal until I reach classic length (another 5 inches to go). Wondering if I should maintain at TBL for a while to thicken up the ends or if I should keep growing for a few more months. The ends are starting to feel too thin for my liking but they don't feel crunchy. What do you all think?

Also wanted to say thank you to this community for all of the wealth of information and encouragement. Today I'll be buying a new hairtsick to celebrate and looking up hairstyles for the Renaissance festival coming up.

Ooh that is beautiful, congratulations! Since you are asking for opinions, here is mine - if your ends do not feel damaged, leave them be and keep growing! You can always microtrim and thicken at classic. (I have a similar goal as you, to get to classic, and I don´t plan on trimming until I get there. Once I do, hopefully, since my hair is on the thin side, I will trim to thicken it there.)

That’s true! What do I think, hmmm… I have no length ambitions what so ever. Every once in a while, when someone else gets a comment on their long hair, or if I’m not the longest-haired person somewhere, I have a momentary identity crisis… But then I remember how easy this hair is to care for.

I can’t get over how thick your post-trim hemline is. So pretty!

I think I might as well hang out here again since the tbl/cl thread is pretty quiet. I’m measuring in at ~40” dry these days with a 2-3 inches to go before classic. Wet, it’s much closer so very doable by the end of the year unless I have a stall/do more hemline reshaping but I don’t think I’ll make it dry. I need some new hair scissors - the ones I have are super cheapies; I suspect my little crop of split ends mean they’re a bit dull and worry these scissors won’t sharpen well.

Is why it's good to save pictures like this, as it helps remind you that yes, there is a difference to before, as when you are attempting to grow longer it is easy to feel impatient.

Yes, it sounds like getting a new pair of scissors would be a good investment if that's the case.
I have two Jaguars. Like that brand as not only are their scissors top notch, some of them (mine is) is lefthanded.

Thank you!

Your hair is beautiful, @sarana. :)

Aww thanks, that made me happy and inspired me to upload a pic. This is a comparison between january and july. I like the sleek cascade in the july pic. It was just conditioned. (Facepalming a little at the henna copper but eh)

There is a bit of growth. Nice.

I'm 1" from tailbone for the second time in my life, and due for a little trim in the next few days. My hair is certainly happier now than it was the last time I was here, so perhaps I'll be at TBL by Christmas! The main things I've learnt since hip are: frequent trims are very helpful to stop fraying ends, and my hair has a boundless appetite for oils and will happily have coconut oil for breakfast, jojoba for lunch, and olive oil for dinner.

More sweet novelties of this length:

- Detangling is a more relaxed affair, because I can relax my arms while playing with my ends. Brought over the shoulder, I'm holding them roughly where I'd hold a book, unlike WL ends, which you have to crane your neck a bit to see.

- It stays over my shoulder or tucked into my clothes.

- I can feel my hair on my back even through a layer of fabric, due to the weight.

I hope you are all enjoying your WL-TBL journney :)

I’m nowhere near TBL yet (i estimate at least another 10-ish or so months for my longest locks to hit TBL and it’ll still be a few months past that where I finally feel like it’s at TBL and not just my eyes playing tricks on me), but I agree with so much of this. especially the feeling the weight of it. Even through a polo and undershirt.

Haven’t grown anything the past two months. I’m hoping I’m just measuring wrong. (I’ve been trying to measure from the crown, but starting this month I’m going from hairline back.

Hi everyone, checking in with a little September length photo post-trim. I'm not sure how I feel about imgur (I do love my LHC albums) but we're working with what we've got ;)

Do you all arrange your hair before taking these photos? because I always intend to but never manage to in reality.

I took off about 2cm yesterday in my seasonal trim slow movement away from the U hem... DH was helping even it out a bit and snipped about 4cm of the longest tuft (!!) - maybe should have trimmed wet instead of dry?

Oooh beautiful baanoo! Such a lovely color too.
What do you mean by arranging hair? Like brushing it, smoothing it or something? If that, then I try, I at least brush, but it won´t fall where I want it to anyway.
My DH does my trims too - I brush my hair thoroughly, then stand in the shower, wet the hair with the shower head (standing up, so it does not tangle), then squeeze water out, comb with wide-tooth comb, and then he can pull the strands a little between the fingers and snip off the ends. I find it is the most precise method for me.

By arranging I meant smoothing down so the hemline lays well - a challenging task since my hair, even when straightish, loves to clump and also float away!

Your trimming method sounds perfect - I have done the “make a few ponies and slide one down” approach and that lacks finesse. ;)

Your hair looks incredible, baanoo! The colour looks insanely pretty in that lighting.

The only kind of arrangement I do for my hair for photos is leaning back and maybe shaking my head just a little bit so my hair kind of falls back into place and isn't stuck on my shirt, for example, if I've moved my head.

I almost missed your photo. Your hair is beautiful! And it looks so long, even after the trim :) What kind of hemline are you going for?
I sometimes try to arrange the hair, to get a better idea about the state of the hemline, but my hair is so fine, the strands catch on each other with the slightest movement, so it never really works.

Now for an update… here’s a big trim, courtesy my MIL to whom I was moaning a bit about my annoyance with the shape of my hem! I must admit I felt a bit shocked by the difference and at first not quite myself but I’m very pleased with the shape and the thickness of the ends. It will grow back! And be in better shape for it.

Hi everyone. Haven't been around here for a while - my life has been quite hectic. And then I couldn't access the website for a month or so. I'm glad to be back, this time away was also a time when I didn't really do anything to my hair (well, I was careful with it and oiled it regularly, but I haven't really done anything else). And it has grown quite a lot! It reached WL, something I really didn't think it will happen so soon. Well, I don't feel like my hair is WL, even though my friends say so. I just feel like a big part of my hair is not there yet. I used to have a V hemline, and between the half years no trimming challenges I tried to change my hemline to more of an U shape.

I am not quite sure what to do next. Should I finish the second half of the no trimming challenge? Should I begin microtrimming? Should I trim every 3-4 months? I still want to grow longer, but I extremely dislike my hemline. I want a soft U shape and no layers, because it's such a pain to trim layers myself (I don't trust anyone to cut my hair) and because of them, part of my hair looks thin on one side (though in reality it's not thin at all). I am sure I won't be making rash decisions, and I also don't want to lose a lot of length, as I want to at least maintain at WL and not go shorter.

I am babbling quite a bit now so I'll stop.

Looks beautiful Diana Prince, definitely WL & looking truly long (to me!) It seems like the last time I saw your hair it was BSL :magic:

I am at a similar situation, I definitely want at least 1 more inch, hoping it puts me at HL, but I want equally to get rid of some choppy DIY layers and bleached bits. I’ve ended up trimming 1/2”- 3/4” every 3 months depending on my length gains so I can slowly grow and slowly remove simultaneously. That’s basically how I’ve grown in out past WL anyways, but it feels more deliberate now that I’ve been measuring each month and know my growth rate. I am at a sweet spot of length now, 30” seems to be long enough for me but If I trim a little above it I am just waiting impatiently for it to grow back. So I plan to not go shorter than this for a while. Maybe once you grow another inch you’ll feel more ready to maintain for a little while?

Yours is looking great I’m sure you’ll find a strategy that works for you!

Do you lovely people in this thread consider your hair to be long? Or since waist to tbl is a pretty big range on some people, did you think your hair was short when you first entered this thread but now feel like it's long if you're getting toward the end of the milestone?

I like the current thread discussing double standards and I wanted to know how people in the same milestone group as me feel about their length.

At my waist it felt short on me, but reaching hip was when I started to feel like I had long hair, even though the difference is only a couple of inches. When I look at the pictures in this thread they all look long, especially at hip and tbl.

Also... Baanoo the trim looks great! The hemline is so clean now. Diana Prince your hair looks so healthy! I agree that you're totally at waist and your hair is going to look good no matter how you trim. Microtrimming often might scratch that itch to feel like you need to do something to lose the hemline fast if that makes any sense. It won't be instant but you might trick your brain into believing it is, haha.

Kelp, my hair is almost BCL and I started to feel like it´s really long when I hit hip too. Although my hair has never been this long before, my perception is severely influenced and perhaps twisted by long-hair models on instagram and by gorgeous faeries and wizards on this forum. A few years ago I would have thought that WL is maximum and very long, on me. Now it feels the more I grow, the shorter I think my hair is... When thinking about my or other people´s length, I think classic and more is really long hair. I don´t consider myself a true long-hair yet, and I don´t think I will at least till TBL.

Thank you so much for the helpful tips, Rosenester! I definitely will do exactly what you did - trim a bit every 3 months or so - because your results are truly incredible :inlove:. I'll probably end this year's challenge, so that I'll gain a bit more length before starting to maintain.

Thank you for the compliment, Kelp! Yeah, microtrimming would definitely help scratch the itch . Thankfully I'm having quite a busy schedule at the moment, and I'll try to postpone the trimming how much I can.

To reply to your question, I feel like my hair is quite short, even though I never ever had hair this long. Claw clips that used to work half a year ago broke or don't grip my hair anymore - even so, in my mind, my hair is not long enough. I don't know if I'll ever feel like it's truly long, because I will certainly not grow it longer than HL/TBL (I find it too tiresome to wash it properly and dry it with minimal heat - it takes so much energy out of me). And for me, truly long hair starts at classic length. I've developed LHCitis, haha.

Diana your hair looks gorgeous! You have the perfect texture for a U hem for sure. I understand well feeling like it’s not waist length though it clearly is - I’m kind of back in that boat myself.

In terms of trimming…. I did some micro trimming to work away the deep U and, ah, clearly just gave up and cut it off. - so perhaps I’m not the best one to offer counsel on this? Rose successfully slowly shifted her hemline and it’s looked amazing at every turn so she might be a better person to turn to! You will find your way and in the meantime it looks so healthy and lovely.

Kelp, thanks! Xoxox

I had just started feeling like it was long and now feel like it’s both long and short. If I can get back to TBL with this hemline I would probably be quite satisfied. The only thing I’m not enjoying about my cut is that all of a sudden I have some new feelings about the length and that bothers me a bit. I suspect that when it “feels” like hip - aka when it reads hip wavy - it will make a big difference. Those are indeed a psychologically big few inches.

I feel very similar to you. At waist now, I don't feel like my hair is particularly long. I can recognize that it would be considered long by most "normies" but it's still very much within the realm of "normal long hair." Which probably would feel longer to me personally if I hadn't been influenced by LHC, lol. I've also had this length for years at this point so I've grown very accustomed to seeing it on myself, and since I've gotten used to having it longer than what it is now (about waist, whereas I've been hanging out in the waist/hip area the past years) it feels short by comparison. I remember feeling like it was starting to get long when I realized I was at solid hip a while back. Even though it's not a big difference in terms of inches, it does give a different feel, to me at least.

This (https://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=49150&d=1687789665) was my trim 4 months ago and this is my hair yesterday (https://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=49380&d=1698095841). The latter photo doesn't show body markers very well, but looking at my elbows, that doesn't look like my usual 4 months' growth?! The camera was on the same surface so it can't be a matter of angle. Also, when I wash my hair upside down, I notice it reaches the floor with much lesser of a bend down than just a short while ago. I wonder what this is about - I never tend to have growth spurts (nor stalls); my hair prefers to grow at a steady speed all year round.

I wonder if it's that you're retaining length better now that you've removed most of the bleach? That's some nice progress!

That without a doubt plays some part, but even with the bleach, I don't think I was experiencing THAT much breakage. The thickness of my ends remained quite consistent the last couple of years of growing with it. :hmm: Perhaps it's just a matter of attitude - now that I don't care about length, it just keeps on giving!

When I was actively growing my hair it seemed to me it took ages to reach tbl, but now that I dont care I'm almost at tbl and I wonder when did it happen. Sometimes I even feel I didn't enjoy my hip length hair enough.

I measured the length of my hair for the first time and I'm at 35"

I'm 5'5 and called hip in March of this year. BCL is about 37.5" and TBL is about 38.5"

I'm so excited to be calling some new milestones and posting in this thread (https://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=119652) in the coming year! :heartbeat

Well, with current waist/hip hair I consider it to be longish, but for it to be long I'd want it to be reaching my tailbone.

On others, I'd probably say they have long hair as soon as they reach waist.

I think this is because wether I have shoulderlength or waist, it feels short. :p

Like last week when I looked at my reflection in the mirror, and I told my mother "why, look how short my hair is!"

Hi all! Here I am this month, an inch below hip!! Haven't been on here in a while so I'm excited to read back and catch up.
Personally, just this last month at below hip, I'm feeling the length as it's down most days at home, and I keep closing it in stuff and knitting it into my projects before realizing it's still attached to my head. :p
I still want it longer though!! At least thicker at the hemline even if only a couple inches longer!

Lairiel, your hair is so beautiful what a great length and color!

Mine is measuring just about 30 1/2” and not quite HL yet… only grew 1/2” over these last 2 months. Hoping for a little growth spurt this time of year my hair has grown 2x quickly  next month I’ll take phots with jeans that rest on my hips and hope it’s there! I’ll be posting it to get opinions at that point :o

Hello lovely people of this thread, I've barely been on these boards recently, but dropping in to say hello and post a picture. Sometimes I worry that my hair is not growing very fast, but I think it might be that I've been encouraging the waves/wurls more, so I've got more shrinkage than I'm used to. This is just out of my sleep bonnet, so it's a little wild and messy! (I don't think my hemline is quite as uneven as it seems here - it's just that the ends of some tendrils have been squashed at a 90 degree angle!)

https://i.imgur.com/buM8ZCGl.jpg https://i.imgur.com/WmPVJvjl.jpg

It's been more than three years now since my hair last saw scissors, and I'm beginning to wonder if I should get a trim to even up/thicken up the hemline a little, but also I'm curious to see how long I can go without trimming!

I can't see your hemline very well against the blouse, but it seems ok to me, and your hair itself is really gorgeous. It looks healthy enough that you'd quickly regain any length lost to a small trim anyway.

Hard to say what it would look like with an even-up trim or with not having just escaped your sleep bonnet, but it's potentially very nice hair. I especially love the color. :-)

Been away about 6 mo because I'm taking the sage advice from someone on here to just not obsess about my hair. Even though these 6 mo were in the slow-growth summer season, my hair has never been this long before, and it's weird (but nice!) to feel it hit my hands when my hands are on my hips and the wind blows it or I turn quickly.

Can I call HL now? The scraggly bottom of the V is reaching my rather high hipbones, so.... meh? I did answer the 2023 poll with HL/TBL. I figure another 6-8 inches and some hemline reshaping and it will be as good as my hair will ever get. It really needs a beauty-trim right now, but I seem to get faster growth in winter, so I'll likely just let it grow and trim later when I'll still be at HL afterwards.

Hey, everyone. I've finally reached the point where I can see and post pictures on here, so I'm excited to share.

I've hovered for years up and down the area of the mid to lower back, and have finally committed to doing away with my very damaging habit of sitting in the summer sun with lightening in mind.

I'm probably a good five or six inches from my tailbone, and am hoping to only need a small trim or two over the next year. I trimmed pretty recently.

Sorry that in the first picture it's in need of a wash, haha. That's today, and the bottom picture is from October.

Aw, thank you, that's very kind to say. I very much like some of the bun styles you have in your profile.

Also, I did a proper measure and I'm actually seven inches from what I thought was the tailbone level. The guess wasn't too far off. But now looking at the length chart, it seems that I was measuring more to "BCL" and from what I can see, I guess tailbone is considered a little lower on the bum, and not the top of where you feel the tailbone. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Currently I'm just baaarely right at the tippy top of my actual hip bones, so it looks like BCL is my next big milestone at 7 inches away. Which will be the longest it's ever been! Hopefully I'll get there within two years or so, depending on trims. Maybe three. We'll see!

Aw, thank you jenniferrae :) And I meant that, your hair is strikingly beautiful.
I think there was at least one discussion as to what people consider BCL and TBL. For some, it´s interchangeable. Some don´t like to call BCL at all and consider that point to be TBL. Some actually go *deeper* and call the true TBL at the end of the spine. It´s up to you really. Happy growing !

I had another 5 cm taken off yesterday, so I’m back up to hip. I love the texture my hair dried into! It looks a bit shorter because of the shrinkage.

Your hair look gorgeous! I can understand your hair looks shorter because of the shrinkage but in my book your hair is still considered long. I know LHC always says HL is still rather short. But I have always said as far as the lengths of the charts WL hair on down is consider to be long.
