Thank you so much ! I trimmed too often so it is so long to growth, I don't think I will reach tailbone before the end of the year :D

So it seems like my hair grows around 0.65" a month averaging out my last 4 months of growth, it very well could be brushing BCL by new years if it keeps up :happydance: I know it can vary and I might trim but it's keeping me motivated that it could be really long in a little over half a year

I'm joining this thread... I would call my hair hip length at this point. I don't have a decent length picture, but I'll try to get one taken soon. My end goal? I'll know it when I see it, I guess! I don't know how long before I reach TBL... I try not to think about it, and I just assume my hair grows slowly, and then sometimes I'm surprised at how long it is. Lately I was surprised to discover it was hip length!

Thank you!! My hair finally FEELS long to me, and I can finally do more than just a cinnabun. I think the thickness of the rope of hair meant I had to get more length in order to do some of the more interesting and convenient styles like the nautilus, my current go-to.

I can't edit my profile yet, and it's left over from my original thoughts when I signed up, but I would say that I am 2b/F/iii+ and at least hip length. :) :flower:

I measured my hair this morning (I am terrible at measuring) and it seems to be coming in at bcl 35-35.5”/89-90cm. I’ve got 4”/10cm give-or-take to tailbone which puts it squarely in the realm of just possible before the end of the year if I don’t take off too much. This year I’ve decided to start doing my own trims when needed so…. We shall see!

Unrelated, this Chi silk infusion serum I started using last week is absolutely stellar for my ends.

I felt that way about waist, I think I called it about 3 months too early. 2A is so baffling, I'd say my hair is most of the time just barely wavy but it still shrinks up several inches from stretched/wet length , on the best hair texture days it's closer to 2B so that obvious eats up even more length and sometimes I don't even know where all my hair goes lmfao

Yeah I recognize this too! I’m really close to being able to join this thread but I’m trying to hold off on calling it until it depends a bit less on my ends flipping the “right” way to be at waist. Meanwhile my stretched length is creeping up on hip! I think actual curlies have this problem way worse, but I hardly even think of my hair as wavy so it throws me off a bit to realize just how much length shrinkage eats up.

I'm tentatively going to join this thread! I measured yesterday, and I was at 31.5, which is pretty much waist-length and a teensy bit more for me. :) I'm closing in on my pre-Big Chop length, which was I think 32.5, and the longest my hair had ever been. I'm contemplating just going on to see what term might be for me. My hair grows more slowly now that I'm in my 60s, but it's still growing. Maybe sometime I'll get ambitious and post a picture. My hair isn't quite as spectacular as most of the hair on LHC, so I'm a little self-conscious. As a 1a/b, II I envy any kind of real wave or curl, and always have. And my hair color is generic neutral brownish reddish with lots...and lots....of greys and whites. BUT. It's completely natural/virgin, it's healthy, and it's mine. :)
And, as a side note, when I was updating my sig file with yesterday's hair measurement (which was actually 31.5, but I only chart whole numbers), I realized that I've been an LHC member for 17 YEARS. :agape:

I can see the ends starting to look fuzzy too (and getting a few splits now) so I'll be glad to trim mid year. Feels like I'll be sitting in this thread until at least 2023.

As someone with a very... undecided texture, I say 1a/1b at least means your hair has always a good shape. I mean, I imagine the risks of washing and ending up with a nest on your head are lower than with other hair texture :p. Congratulations for 17 years!

But I think I can finally say the ends are at waist. Measuring seems like a surefire way to tell, but honestly I'm so inconsistent with that even with straight hair, I've no idea how y'all get any consistency with any amount of texture!

And I think I finally actually belong in this thread! I’m embarrassed to even post this set of length pictures—my trip to the beach this weekend left my hair even more unruly than usual. But I think I can finally say the ends are at waist. I’m planning on growing pretty slowly from here, not sure how much longer I really want to go, and after the no trim challenge ends I’m planning on a good trim and then probably maintaining that for a while.

I do sometimes think classic would be nice but I’m not sure it’d really suit me, and the last time my hair got to hip I started feeling pretty uncomfortable with it. And I’ve got a lot of damage and old layers I kept telling myself I’d do something about once solidly past waist anyway. So I’m thinking of this more as a home for the next several years at least, with no plans to move out anytime soon!

It's true! Above waist there's a lot more milestones than below it when(at least on my body) it's pretty much the same distance. I mean I suppose milestones are arbitrary to begin with but it feels nice to hit a new one more often :shrug:

I know these aren’t very protective and I should bun properly instead, but sometimes buns feel just too formal. Of course this is also happening right when wearing my hair down has become even more inconvenient. Can you do “messy” stick buns or am I gonna have to choose between continuing to grow or being able to comfortably toss my hair up in a laid back way?

You can 100% do messy stick buns, though usually I work within the general framework of a nautilus or cinnabun. I can hold an untwisted very messy cinnabun topknot with one claw clip so that’s one of my go-tos when the need arises.

If you left your ends poking out, I think a simple bun like a LWB or nautilus would give a "messy" look. Cinnamon buns held with a stick or fork always slightly undo themselves for me, resulting in a messy look as well.

I think we must be at about the same place lengthwise. :) For my body, though, I measured and it looks to be about 4-4.5” between bcl and tbl so I’m hoping for tailbone by the end of the year! There’s no way I’ll make it by autumn, alas.

So glad this is helping! I find this single-claw-clip-cinnabun works the absolute best when up as a topknot with the clip on the back of my head - if I’m positioning it further down, the clip needs to be on top and the bun can sag sometimes; it works better with two clips then (one per side) which is always going to be a wee bit more tidy. ;)

Oh man, I can't count the amount of times I've wanted clarity in regards to TBL, only to never get the answer :p I've realized that it seems nobody truly knows and there are so many interpretations. Now that I'm at hip and it won't be long until I pass it, I have no idea what that's supposed to mean :eye: HL+ maybe... And probably, or perhaps, TBL when it hits my butt. My camera was set up quite low so it's hard to tell but the tufty new growth pieces are here with a vengeance and much curlier than the lengths. I'm curious as to whether they'll be able to maintain their curls as it gets longer since so much of my hair lost the will to spin properly as it grew.

Someone complimented my hairs length in a restaurant the other day, she said "I like your braid, it's so long". Feeling quite satisfied with my progress and reaching my goals :)

Echoing knobbly, waist to TBL is a long way - about 9” on me (I consider tbl to be the place where your hair reaches your seat without you actually sitting on it; I know there’s a lot of debate about this particular milestone!). I’ve been hanging out in this thread for 2+ years already though in all fairness I’ve had two decently large trims as well.

Thank you! Honestly, I don't know. It varies from month to month and I get random spurts. This is actually one of the slower months for me and I'm wondering if it's due to that one week of Covid where my body sucked all the nutrients it could get. But I think it's safe to say I average out at around 7 inches a year.

Your hair seems to grow absolutely insanely fast, and it still looks so good at the ends even when you don't trim! You'll have outgrown this thread before I do I reckon (can tell a difference for the month).

I was at just past waist length last year, see my profile which was taken last year after a 7 inch cut to make my ends blunt. My hair is now 40” long just past my butt. So it took about a year to grow 7”. I have an unfortunate habit of growing my hair to mid thigh and start cutting until it’s at my waist again. I’m already thinking of getting couple inches off using the lunar hair chart in September. I wash my hair once a week with a viori shampoo bar and spray my hair with Moroccan Method crystal spray moisturizer. I oil my scalp my Organic Amalaki Scalp serum the night before washing. I was my hair in the morning and go work that night I put The Ordinary multi peptide serum on my scalp massaging it in with a scalp massager. I use to wear my hair in a bun 80% of the but noticed it was pulling on my scalp. Plus I started to feel like why have long hair if it’s always up. I do put my hair in a protective style for sleeping.

That's insane to me because I always (going by your avatar,) envisioned you with super long hair that I will never catch up with lol! Thank you though. I need to cowboy up and just trim in August already. To be honest, I am a petite person with an average torso so I think that also contributes to the more apparent length difference.

Hahaha, understandable, it's funny what comes across in pics - I'm also short(-ish, 5'4) with a short torso so it's like "wow look how quick" because there is barely any distance between APL and Hip :lol: Now I'm past that it's gonna be slower going.
How much do you think you'll trim if you do?

Your hemline looks great! In January, I cut 4 inches of layers off. I hated to do that, but it was nice to get my hair to one length. Since then, Keeping my ends moisturized has been a top priority. I also use Gro-Aut oil on my roots. I believe it does accelerate growth.

Thank you! Yes keeping the ends moisturized is definitely a good thing as they're most prone to damage! I can't really use any oil on my roots unfortunately as i have some skin issues and oil only makes it worse. And yes it's nice to have hair one length, it took me a long way to get to that point as well :)

1 month after my trim and I'm basically back to the same visual length of before the trim - those wispy ends looked fine but were doing me no favours haha. Here is my current length, ~32.5-33". The lower ruffle on my dress is at classic, so still a ways to go. But within reach!

I don't know an exact amount, I didn't measure before and after, but based on what was on the floor probably lost about 1.5 inches? It's really odd, it felt like I'd lost more but you're right, it doesn't really look like it does it!

Can recommend small trims they make a massive difference, but next time I'll try and go in a little sooner, I don't like holding on to too many splits, makes detangling far too tiresome.

KokoroDragon I might have had a particularly quick growing month, it usually only grows 1.5cm/month and seemed to be slower for most of the year so far, who knows I just hope the trend continues!

I ‘called’ WL last month, so here is my first length shot in this thread. Still just brushing WL. I measured just under 28 1/2 inches. The waistband of these pants is where I will measure hip length, and either the corner of the V or top of pockets would be Tailbone length. Not sure how far I plan to grow, I plan to maintain by cutting back to just below WL for a few years to cut out the bleach. So I suspect I’ll be in this thread indefinitely:p

I should have guessed that when something reliable had stopped working (my boar bristle brush) and I couldn't stand the ends anymore (and just wanted to cut them off), that I was at a new milestone! Wasn't expecting to get to waist until the end of the year, but took a photo with a pleasant surprise. I have moved on from my boar bristle brush to a brand new routine of finger detangling and a round with my wooden Tek brush. Very exciting! I was on the verge of quitting No Trims, but hung in there with my hair's "sudden change of personality." Will continue with no trims until the end of the year, as I am here for philosophical reasons anyway...

Haha yes indeed. When I was pregnant I would brush and brush and not a single hair would come out. But between 3 and 4 months postpartum I would brush and brush and the hair wouldn't stop coming out! I was left with my normal amount of hair after that month.

Every new length, it is demanding that I grow up, become more gentle, intuitive, and appreciative of what I've been given, and give up anything that it not working for me. I have never been able to grow my hair, I've been through a lot and have recently escaped a dangerous situation. I noticed that I've cut my hair till things went right, and have this self compassion and growth you're talking about. You're comment made me aware of this idea.

Sometimes you get to the point where it’s better to baby the ends and trim more slowly in order to feel like you’re making progress. I spent two years wandering around hip so I know the struggle!

Looking great! I never use a BBB anymore; it just wrecked my hair. I haven’t pitched it because occasionally I’ll use it to gently smooth the canopy once my hair is already up but that’s it.

I love how your bleached ends look against your natural color at this length. It’s such an elegantly punk look!

I did my monthly measure, photos, +seasonal trim this weekend!

This month is brushed out, so it looks a little different :magic:
Also, I trimmed and made the ‘u’ deeper (on purpose) and measured 28 1/4” after trim so still hitting WL stretched. New goal: grow to 30” and maintain there instead :wink: I think it will look and feel more WL when it is in its full wavy form :o

I'm probably going to maintain at tailbone like some others in this thread - I want to thicken up my hemline.

My curl pattern has really stretched out now that I am waist+ so I feel like I'm noticing a lot of growth when, in reality, my hair is just straighter now :lol: But it's exciting because this week I've noticed my hair touches my lap when I sit on my bed working on my computer. It's never done that before! It's exciting :)

I did my monthly measure, photos, +seasonal trim this weekend!


This month is brushed out, so it looks a little different :magic:
Also, I trimmed and made the ‘u’ deeper (on purpose) and measured 28 1/4” after trim so still hitting WL stretched. New goal: grow to 30” and maintain there instead :wink: I think it will look and feel more WL when it is in its full wavy form :o
Suuuure you’ll maintain there, you definitely won’t get to 30” and think, ooh, maybe 32”? ;)
The deeper U looks really nice!

I remember when I started noticing the lap hair when sitting and it is definitely so exciting. I’m looking forward to having enough for a proper hair pool instead of a puddle!


It is such a nice feeling, especially after years of growing! It feels like all your hard work and patience is finally paying off. Having hair pool is the dream! Mine only just brushes my lap, so no hair puddle for me yet.

Your hair looks very similar to mine, and it looks beautiful! This is the perfect example to me of how the LHC has made me enjoy my own hair type. By seeing other people's hair that resemble my own, both in type and in looks, and liking how it looks, I realize that perhaps I like my own hair too! It's just harder to see on myself because I get self critical :-)

It looks like I’m finally graduating from this thread after more than two years hanging out (4” annual trims really didn’t do much to speed my time here along). I hadn’t planned on calling it til the solstice but was looking in the mirror yesterday and decided that yep, it’s time. This was my first big goal so I’m really excited.

I'm at one of those moments ("just past solid hip") when the length is starting to get in the way more: my side plait or side ponytail is now below elbow length in front, so it starts to brush against whatever I'm holding - book, laptop, cup of tea... I think this length is another threshold for new mechanical damage (and tea-dipped tassels). On the other hand, it's now easier to make a slightly looser bun with a Jeter fork.

Honestly, since I joined the forum and practiced bun-only, from June to October, my hair has grown at least 7cm, I did my monthly measurements and both the length and pony circumference grew steadily, and yet, visually it still looks the same with the long ass fairytail still hanging around my bum. The closer to the ends, the curlier they are after having turned semi-wavy from my constant bunning and braiding. And I never get to sit on my hair after so many months of nearly there. That’s why I jokingly call myself a fake tbl.
The only change is, if anything, I’m less stressful about it now that I practice benign negligence.

I agree with the rest of the comments: stunning hair and beautiful thick hemline. I wouldn't cut it, but you must do what feels good for you.

Thank you! I feel pretty good reading this comment, I think the length is a sweet spot for me right now too. I know what you mean about having a ponytail or braid that dunks itself into food and crucially tea, it sure is an experience! I just ordered my first proper hair fork, can't wait for it to arrive so I can see if putting hair up is easier than with a shaved down chopstick!

Fairytaling looks so nice on your hair though! Also that's another 4 inches compared to me, that extra length makes a difference in time and wear.

Thanks Bri, I definitely feel the need to have it up more often than not now - and bunned rather than in a ponytail or equivalent, as mentioned above, the tassle dangling into tea etc is a bit inconvenient :p

I just notice recently that the ends of my hair are a bit crispy and on inspection, there is a decent number of split ends, I think because I've not been very gentle recently. Gah that's so frustrating too! Waiting for the milestone to fully take hold, I think this one is particularly bad. From what I've seen if you're noticing your hair more because you want it to grow it could be growing slower out of spite :p nah, more out of the same sentiment, a watched pot never boils - I'm sure you'll make it to FTL, or past the current stall at any rate.

Thank you, I'll just be doing a little trim, I generally like the length just the split ends and same-ness is getting to me, I've had the same hair and been scared to trim it for the better part of 5 years now!

I'm currently at 31.5", which is an inch or so past my waist. I feel like it's taking ages to get to my goals, even though my hair grows .5 a month average. It should take me about 5 months to get to hip (34"), then December 2023 to get to TB (38") :( :)

It takes soooo long once you get past waist, and this is coming from me. The distance between my milestones isn't that big thanks to my build.
Tailbone takes Forever. Hang in there, you'll make it eventually and it'll look super long when you do with 38" of hair :o

It's been some time since my last post here, i'm still in the course of classic length goal but first I need to reach tailbone. It looks like TBL is at 98cm on me and I'm at 92cm for now.

Ha! Here I was hoping to have waist length hair by New Years and I just realized, by looking at my recent photos, THAT I'M THERE! Hurray! This is an importand milestone, for me, because waist length is what I consider to be truly LONG HAIR. I feel like I have arrived. Now I just need to thicken up my ends and then it's on to TAIL BONE. Woot!

I only got one comment on my hair, thus far. We had my son and his wife over this summer, and he mentioned that my hair was getting really long. Wait till he sees it at Thanksgiving. ;)

It does feel like these take an age to go through! But the journey is part of it; these are all such great lengths.

I felt like it was under a month ago that I was frustrated about hoovering right above BCL and now I'd suddenly moved past it by maybe one cm. Maybe I've just checked less since I got frustrated about the percieved lack of growth. I think it will be fun to grow from here, because anything from BCL and onwards is long! :-)

This is where I am right now- between WL and TBL. Maybe if I can remember, I'll get a length shot and check how long it is right now. :)

Yes, I know! And I do agree that WL+ is actually long. Being on the LHC, seeing people with classic+ lenght regularily, does something to what I view as long. I also think my idea on what feels long of me is probably shaped by the fact that I could always get to hip+ with no issues and not caring. So, long to me is whenever I have pushed past my "default".

Potauvert: Thank you! I think the road will be more fun for me from here, because I have never been past this point yet, so any growth from here will be breaking my own records. I really liked the first photo you shared, by the way. What a thick hemline! :-)

HL is a slightly awkward length for me compared to WL and (I presume) TBL: the bulk of my hair is like a big heavy cape, then the ends are these wild tassels that dangle in the space made by the curve of my back. I've been improving my routine and imparting more moisture, which my hair loves.

A couple of trims and a year (more or less) later, I am out of this awkward length stage, though still only an inch or two past HL. My hair now visually covers the curve of my back in most clothes, which I think looks better. Looking forward to the rest of the journey to TBL. :)
