Thank you, finda! Pros of wearing lots of black: really sets off my hair. Cons of wearing lots of black: really shows off those shed hairs... ;)

I agree. It is an unusual feeling having hair this long. I can definitely feel the ‘weight’ of it now, especially when I move my head about. Its ‘thickness’ as I’m going out the layers - especially when plaiting, and its ‘length’ when I hold it up to the side of my head. It’s a lovely feeling. :o

I have the same fairytaley effect when my hair is wet or just unbrushed^^
Most of my clothes are black and back when breakage was at its worse it "rained" ends heavily every time I brushed out my hair. The black made it all so visible ;)

Mine naturally fairytales because of the spirally pattern but it's exaggerated due to not being blunt cut. I don't mind. It reminds me of princess hair.

I feel like I've been stuck in this thread for forever because I keep having to trim off damage >< Right when I was about one inch away from tailbone, I had to trim an inch off again due to damage from a surgery I did. I am also 5'11" so that probably doesn't help any :flower:

I've been here for a year and still not there... I know how discouraging it can be. I cut back a bit during summer last year from a V to an U and that set me back a little. Plus my hair is no longer growing like before possibly due to stress and mental health issues, but hey at least we'll be there... Eventually.
.
Thank you Finda and baanoo! I will definitely keep track of the progress and share my thoughts on the shampoo. Hopefully it'll work!

I wrote a blog about it. I love the length, but apparently on my fine strands it just isn’t doable to be worn down. And that’s why mayoralty I’ve let it grow. I want it loose :) But over the years, since I’ve started growing it, the ends declined , thinned out and are full of splits. I mean there are so many. I missed s&d for a few months, and it just went crazy. I guess so many dyeing over the years or genetic, causes splits to me, and splits cause tangles...

I’m gonna go read it! But also, have you tried yet using silicone oil / sealing the ends ar least twice a day now? That’s how I have managed to avoid splits so far, and I have worn my hair down until now 90% of the time. Maybe it could prevent that in the future. I’ve never done S&D because it never felt necessary. Buying a tangle teezer wet detangler also changed my life once i started dealing with tangles and then breakage, it literally glides smoothly through them.

Its not a lot tbh, I’ll try to post a pic. I think I chopped maybe 2inches:) knowing how hip is a long milestone, I’m just assuming that’s where I am now :) but it doesn’t feel shorter , tho my husband couldn’t watch, and is now very sad... he looks at me with puppy eyes and he said ‘ oh it’s so short’ :D
It’s literally two fingers shorter :) still touching my bum ... I looked forward to maintain and thickness in ends area,so I’m pretty happy :)

I think hip length is a very nice manageable length anyways. At least it will still be considered very long. :)
I remember when I first joined LHC I had set my long-term goal to hip length but then over time I have extended my long-term length out to where ever my hair can grow.

Hip is my goal for this reason. I want it long, but I'd also like it the still be manageable when worn down.

Congrats on your cut and new ends, Beauty! :) I'm happy to hear you feel content with it!
I have to concur that hip is a very nice length. I (unknowingly) maintained my hair there for about half a decade! Even now, if I wanted my hair to be at a length where I can comfortably wear it down and/or in a braid constantly without too much worry, I'd maintain between hip and BCL. There's just so much about that length, mostly in "character", that feels a lot like me. :)

Also, your shoulders look lovely! Mine are the opposite, I guess - straight and broad, so I always look stiff and masculine, haha. I appreciate your kind of shoulders.

Really exciting, Bri!
As an aside, I think I’ve finally gained back the last of the weight I lost last year - which surely must help! I know weight is a sensitive topic for folks, but I really didn’t have ~ 4.5kg / 10lbs to lose. Judging by how my jeans fit (the only way I know) I think I’m back to normal.
Congratulations that is something to celebrate!

About the shoulders, the hilarious thing is that I was trying to stay with the shoulder straight but I obviously failed....
Ylva, I actually have two thin strands adjacent my ears (falling in the sideburns area) that often create a curl! I often tuck that hair sections over the ears and they become straighter, but if I don't I end up with those two ringlets. Also my babyhair on the forehead curls sometimes.
I remember you had a great shed and so you have some new hair growing... well, when I started recovering from some health issue one year and half ago, new hair started to grow from my head, and it is what (I think) create the frizz around the neck/shoulders. We are similar in this too ;)

Just noticed in the shower that my hair, when taken to the front (and wet), has now passed the top of my hipbones by a couple of centimeters. And after a stall, or what seemed like one, I now think tailbone by christmas might still be realistic, if only with the tips. And, something that was super important to me, the demarcation line between translucent and non see-through has now passed the hemline of my pants (I usually wear the same cut) :joy:

LOL could have been worse. Two weeks I would expect only 0.5 cm positive difference IF the measurement was without error.
My suggestions to you would be
1) Use your mom as the Chief Measurer. Measuring yourself is less reliable and comparing measurement between the two of you even less so
2) Measure WET hair so the waviness of your hair seen in your pics is minimized
3) Don't measure too often. It really doesn't tell you much. :p

Me too - When I look at myself being at the same length for a year, and I had to cut back a little. Because of uneveness but the hemline is much straighter and looks much better now. So, I'm not putting anymore scussors nor doing anymore trimming for another 5 or 6 years from now.

I haven't measured my hair properly with a measuring tape in ages. Probably should right now because it'll be more accurate than pics only. I have been dealing with more hair loss and breakage for the last two months. I stopped taking the pil at the beginning of this year so I think it's now showing in my hair. But now I'm going to measure my hair on the next wash day and will report back!

I get this as well! It was over 71 cm one time, and the next measurement a few days later it seemed shorter! I've decided not to check until September. I'm so close to waist, it's very frustrating. So you're not alone! :)

I'm glad I'm not alone with the impression that my hair looks not that much longer than december. Although, it depends on the day and probably on the color I wear on that day. I think one day wow it has become so long. And the next I'm convinced it has not grown at all. Additionally I have the suspicion when I last measured my length in order to update my profile I made a converting error from cm to inch lol. I measured today and I'm around 95cm. I then cut a 1m long, very blue ribbon. So now I will just have to hold the ribbon over my hair in order to see how long my hair still has to grow until it reaches 100cm.

I haven't taken a good look at my hair in a very long time. I've gotten comments at work that it looks longer than just 2 months ago, but I personally can't see it x) I think I'll try to take a length photo tomorrow.

I tried taking some photos today but managed to have too high ISO and didn't notice till afterwards (it looked fine on the screen! ). A few ended up fine so I'll share one of those here, even if it's not a traditional length shot. I read somewhere that TBL is basically when the hair touch the ground/seat when you sit (?), is that true? My hair hovers maybe 1.5 cm above.

I think it depends by your body shape. I'm ~ 1.5 cm far from TBL but I need around 5 cm for the "sit" length.
Beautiful hair anyway!

I'm finally solidly past waist again after trimming several inches off a few months ago to thicken my hemline. On my way to hip with TBL being my final goal. Will probably trim again in January, but hopefully won't need to cut as much as last time.

Yeah you're definitely not! I've been struggling for a while haha. My hair used to grow so fast but I think my scalp hasn't been doing well lately :/. Yours is already a lot longer though.
My driend measure mine for me and she said it's 86cm. We'll see next month... :/

I think the "floor-length while sitting" is a good general rule for tailbone length, if you're otherwise having trouble locating the bone itself. It might not be 100% accurate for your skeleton, but it's the next closest thing, I suppose.

I need to trim quite a bit at some point, I wear my hair in braids a lot and I got a lot of split ends and breakage, but I keep pushing it forward. I'm not sure when to do it, if I should do it in chunks or microtrim... I really don't know. Buns give me a headache after a few hours 90% of the time, which is a shame. I should experiment with other types of styles.

I think it's a mixture from stress, hormonal issues, post-covid consequences... I don't know. My scalp has become very greasy as well, I could go max a day without washing, now not even that since I started working out. It's still falling out a lot, but I hope it will regulate in the future. My hair used to grow very fast, 3cm a month, so this is not easy for me. It has never been this slow x_x.
My friend just measured wet without my waves and it was 87 at least. I'm gonna go by that just for my sanity.

With your thick hemline, I think I'll do a search and destroy method. You are very close to the CL and with the butt, the friction can be worst. I prefer to wear braid for the same reason that you explain. Hope you will find a good hairstyle and a method to reduce the split ends :)

Thank you! I do have a lot of splits and white dots throughout my hair, but I suppose it's not that visible from a distance ;) I don't know what my goal is, it's been changing from fingertip length to knee to "let it grow and see where it goes". I have a feeling that I might end up shorter than now in the future, especially if I can't find updos that doesn't cause headaches, but I won't let myself cut my hair until I've experienced longer lengths and actually tried to make other updos.

I hope so too! it would be nice to have hair in stellar condition, but I'm sensing that my hair is just not that type x) I'll try my best, though.
S&D with my hairs current state would probably take me many hours to get through it all, but I suppose I could do it a little at a time. Could do some now before work. It is somewhat relaxing, so why not :o

It depends on the shape your body but I would say TBL is right where not trying to sounds gross but right where your butthole is. That's where I would say where you tailbone is on the body depending on your shape and height. For me, it is a length where you're almost sitting on it but not quite. ;)

I don't think you need a trim at all. To me, your ends looks just fine. :) I know there are times when we get this feelings where we feel like our hair is damaged and it needs a trim but it really doesn't. In my opinion, all you really need to do is either use a clarifying shampoo or use a good deep moisturizing conditioner or a good moisturizing/strengthening hair mask, and you'll be fine. ;)
That's why I don't wear my hair up all of the time. Because, it causes too much friction with the buns and ponytails. They've always said it's not always good to wear your hair in the same spot of the ponytail or bun. Because, it can cause a lot of friction and hair breakage in her long run. So, that's why I prefer to wear my hair down at times. Especially, when I'm out in public, and my hair is not long enough yet to get caught into things.

My hair, no doubt, gets a lot of the damage from the friction the braid got against my clothes as well as the tie that I end my braids with (I've been thinking of buying silk ribbons to tie them with instead, just haven't gotten around to purchasing them yet). Ideally I would find a style that put up my hair and protects it from rubbing against my clothes, but I'm unsure if it will be possible for me.
My ends are filled with damage, even if it's not visible from afar. I've done a little S&D since I last posted, but I need a few hours more for it to be any significant difference. My hair routine is quite alright as of now, I just need to find a way to care for my ends and my hair (even if it's just a regular S&D session), especially if I can't find any good updo that prevents damage.

I bet your ends do get a lot of damage from the friction of wearing the braids. Yes, wearing your hair in the same style of the time can cause friction and breakage. Yeah, purchasing the ribbons and wearing them for different hair styles would be a good idea. What I would suggest to you to add in your hair routine is oiling your ends with a light oil on a daily basis, and see how it improves there.

I’m slowly making progress but am beginning to doubt that I’ll make it to TBL by the end of the year. It’s possible I’ll hit BCL by the solstice but it may be later before it really reads that way when my hair is wavy.
In other exciting hair news, I finally did a 4-strand braid that looks decent and also have been playing with rope braids. Is it still considered milkmaid braids if you wrap each braid towards the back first and then around the front? That’s my preferred method these days; it looks nicer from the back.

Lovely thick hair and what a gorgeous colour. I think your ends look fine to me in your photo. Perhaps just dust for the splits, may suffice?
I’m also struggling trying not to trim at the moment, but I’ve committed myself to the 12 month no trim challenge and I don’t like to just give up! ;)

I trim my split ends for the main reason that they tangle. Clean ends feel better when I'm brushing my hair out. So yes, I know I don't "need" to cut them off, but I like to, and I don't want to change that.
But I feel like my hair is splitting more now that it used to. That the rate at which it grows and the rate at which I need to cut it have nearly equalized. In terms of gaining length, I'm pretty stalled.
My ends are older now than they were before. Is that why? Are they more fragile by virtue of simply being older?

I feel like keeping my ends solidly doused in oil/a silicone serum helps with this a lot - once I started keeping them drenched I noticed fewer splits by quite a lot.

I think was 9 cm (3.5 inches) last time I checked, it's been a few years, but my hair feels about the same now as then, so I don't think that has changed.
I've always thought fairytale ends look beautiful! My hair seems to have no plans of making that happen, at least not anytime soon. Maybe that should be my goal? to have fairytale ends? But you can't maintain that, since trimming makes them slowly go away. Guess we can't have everything ... :couch:

I feel like my hair has been the same length for ages. My hair is so hard to manage in the warmer weather so I've been straightening it more than I would like to for work & such. It just gets so frizzy & if I blow dry it straight, it won't stay. I've been feeling pretty down about it lately, so I thought I'd share a recent picture from today(freshly washed & blow dried). You guys always make me feel more confident in my hair ♥️

Chy, it’s absolutely lovely! What’s your natural texture? Such gorgeous shine.
Very silky and shiny KlutzyChy1!
I didn't use any styling products for like a year but it was being really big and frizzy lately so I've been using Not Your Mother's Curl Cream or whatever it's called and I think my hair really likes it. I'm going on vacation soon with lots of ocean, pool, and sun, so let's pray for my hair.

I think my hair might be a back view waist, I will be looking to take photos soon. The major thing about this is that my hair from the front is like just reaching below boob. Anyone else feel around this length feel like they blew past a bunch of goals without realizing and now like... actually have long hair?

I'm still fighting this particular problem. I came to a conclusion that on me its due to being overweight with huge breast :) Back,I'm BCL, front I'm waist :)

Hello, I finally feel I can join this thread! I just squeek by declaring waist length hair. My next goal is tailbone. My hemline is uneven, so in a couple of months I plan on getting a small trim. (I have a hairdresser whom I trust)
Who of you like to have a straight hemline while growing to tailbone and who prefer fairy tail ends? I'm not sure what I plan on doing yet regarding my hemline

Congratulations on reaching waist. :cheer:
I prefer a blunt straight hairline, but I also like (and presently have) a U-shaped one, which I think suits me better and trying to grow out my layers (some of which are short as BSL) to achieve a thicker hemline. With my ultimate goal being classic, I’m not sure if I want to continue growing to classic and then maintain to achieve this, or do this at waist. Presently, I’m thinking doing it at waist, as my thin, wispy ends are annoying me now!

My stretched length is now firmly at WL! I have no idea how it even happened. Straightened my hair just to see how long it was getting and....there it was! So I'm gunning towards final destination - Tailbone! Never thought I'd actually hit waist! So happy to be in this thread now :D
Still in team BSL-WL, my unstretched length is still hovering around BSL. Hoping my curls start dropping soon.

This is exactly what I was thinking lately! Because I'm considering a bigger trim to improve the health of my ends but at the same time I'm just few millimeters far from tbl. I don't know why I start considering a trim always when I'm so close to the next milestone.

Because you'll do what I did. I got to a milestone and than trimmed, effectively bringing myself to a previous milestone. If the point it so maintain at goal length, than you'll have to wait for it to pass the goal for some cm to trim it. I was at bcl, and came back to hip abyss. You understand what I mean? On the other hand, I wouldn't be drastic, like trim off 10cm, but 2-3 if fine, it will grow back in 2 months. Take your time with the decision. I for one, wouldn't do what potavert did. She trimmed of 23cm, going from tbl to waist, that's 2 years growth. She wanted thicker ends, so do I, but not at that length. Point of it is always patience, wait it out. Maintain at goal. If you're that close, like millimeters close, just wait month or two and maintain.

Oh so long and thick?! Beautiful color! What's the plan for the hemline?
Thanks :) It's always in a braid or bun, so I leave it be for the time being. I think it might still be possible to reach tailbone by christmas. In the shower it already feels pretty close, but looking at the picture, my hair still has to cover a lot of butt
Then I will
- maintain at tbl or
- grow to classic and then cut back to tbl or
- grow past classic and then cut back to it.
I'll keep and eye on the wonkiness and if it should get much worse I'll cut sooner than later. But so far everything is still growing down. The ends are of course uneven, but they don't tangle at all and they feel pretty soft, so we'll see...
Looks great, Finda! :O so thick and such a lovely colour!

Yeah guys, I think that for now I'll wait and I'll think about it. Maybe maintaining at tbl for a while could be a good option indeed. My ultimate goal is less than 15 cm far, but at the same time I'm starting to hate how damaged my hair is. I feel you, the last 3 inches of my hair are pretty damaged, but I am stubbornly babying them with oil and silicones to get them to a more manageable length. I have a lot longer to go, but I plan to maintain at hip for about a year to get my ends into the step I want them.

Hey, don't feel bad. At times I feel the same way about my hair. Your hair is always sooo gorgeous! My hair is also so hard to manage in the warmer weather too. It's so thick that I have to blow dry it but like yours I'll blow dry it but the straightness doesn't last. It's back to poofyness and frizziness again. But, I just deal with the frizz because I know that's the kind of hair I will always have. Because, I don't want to damage it. I want to keep continuing to let it grow. So, I just leave it alone. But yes, we are here to encourage each other, and help each other feel better.

Same it feels soooo much shorter compared to what it was. It's crazy how only a couple inches makes such a big difference. But I needed it. Had thin ends that were barely hanging on from heat damage + a massive shed a year ago that made the bottom half of my hair look even more like crap

Well, my hair is back to a bit above BCL after trimming it. I've decided to keep it between waist, and BCL till I'm happy with it again which is hopefully when it starts getting thicker. So... like five years *sigh*
I figure I'll give it a month or so before deciding if I want to trim it even shorter.

Not real trouble, but it seems to grow naturally this way, less and less thickness past BSL. I suspect just short terminal length potential.

Guys I ended up trimming 1.5 inches. Do I see a lot of difference? I don't know...I'm still at BCL btw.

Hi everyone! I hit waist a couple months ago and my hair is starting to feel like it’s getting long. Very exciting! It looks like I’m pretty close to HL already and expect to be there by the end of the summer (I haven’t done a proper measurement but it’s getting longer). It looks like maybe 5-6 inches to tailbone so if I keep going at my current rate I might be there next summer. My BFF is getting married next August 2022 so it would be nice to be TBL by her wedding. We’ll see. TBL is definitely one of my goal lengths. Then classic, then mid thigh. So here’s to growing

There is a chance I will hit BCL before the end of the year. Exited about gaining length again, maybe because the thickness seems to travel down as well lately and it looks better.
That's the milestone that made me start to feel like I had long hair.

I understand what you mean. I’ve been at waist since January (and also the longest it’s ever been) and at times, it doesn’t feel long - even now approaching hip. I think, for me, it’s due to having a U-shaped hemline, growing out layers and thinning ends. It’s when I let it down to comb/brush and to wash, I feel its weight and length, then I realise it is long!

Indeed. I haven’t seen many people with hair as long as me or even longer. So I suppose to others, it would be considered long, even we don’t think sometimes.

I think that the different tops are making a difference: it looks longer and like it has more of a curl in the more recent picture to me. With those ends tucked up so far it can be difficult to measure growth.
KokoroDragon
July 8th, 2021, 10:47 AM
It looks like it has gained a bit of length to me, it's just that the camera is closer on one which makes it look like they're the same. If you look at the length from the elbow down you can see what I mean. Your hemline also looks like its getting thicker!

Your hair looks great. The thickness seems to have grown down some. I also think the different shirt and distance to the camera could be misleading. Have you ever measured the length of your hair?

I second what others have said, paper.wyrm - it definitely looks longer and fuller if I draw a line between your elbows! I’m terrible about wearing the same shirt when I take length photos but I do try and pose in the same place with the same posture every time.

Thanks everyone, it helps having so many extra eyes looking at it! It's reassuring to know that other people see some progress. I need to find my white top again for the next 6 month photo as I only have one and it's best for checking my ends. The grey was the best I could do at short notice! My boyfriend was taking the photo and I felt bad about asking him to keep changing the distance and the angle. I haven't measured my hair properly before, I tried a few times but gave up as I was sure I was doing it wrong and my results were slightly different each time. Any suggestions?

I think most people measure from their front hairline over the head and down the back. You'll probably get more consistent results by having a second person (boyfriend?) do the measurements at your chosen intervals. I do it maybe three/four times a year to get an overall idea, and not get too obsessed with growth.

July 10th, 2021, 12:34 AM
Yes: having someone else do the measurements for you makes a big difference. Of course, living alone makes this difficult, but…. I tend to use one hand to pin the tape at my hairline, make sure it’s running smoothly as possible over the back of my head, and then grab the bottom of my hair with the tape in place and bring it round to the front to get the measurement. Lots of room for mistakes there though and I do sometimes get different measurements if I try it more than once at a time. I just try to keep a note of the trend as it’s usually not too much out and this tends to show some progress.

So I'm definitely back at BCL. Also, with better ends.
I have to complain a bit of course, I had a shed last couple of days, washed everyday for work and I'm now not so sure my ends look like this. Any way I'm happy for the length, and probably(don't want to jinx it) won't trim until I hit TBL.

So long and so pretty! I would definitely say hip length. It’s maybe even a little past, especially since you have some texture going on.
I’m debating whether or not to call hip myself. Hair is barely grazing hip bones when pulled out straight. I partly want to call it and partly want to wait until it’s more solidly hip. I blowdried my hair straight for wash day yesterday, so I’ll try to get a picture posted here today .

When your hair is that long you'll see it better if your camera is level with the milestone you're approaching, or if you take the photo from farther away. When the picture is taken from a slight overhead angle the hair often looks a bit longer.

Love the nautilus, baanoo! Been wearing them a lot more lately myself, too.
Welcome, WavyWay! I'm not officially in the no-trim challenge this year but the last trim I did was back I think first week of January so I technically could be. I just go until either my ends feel like they need a trim or I want to thicken the hem up enough (and have come to terms with howver much length I need to lose to do so). I usually go 6-9ish months between trims this way.
Very pretty, Waveurly! Congrats on getting to waist :)
Re: hair photos. I used to have a specific spot on my bathroom counter I'd prop my phone for comparison photos, lately I've been propping my phone up on the fence in my backyard and that helps me get decently angled pictures, since it's about waist height and I step a few paces away with my timer on for photos. My hair is too long to get a good photo from the previous spot I did them from. I think finding specific stable spots to place the camera, rather than relying on someone else or trying to take a mirror selfie tc. helps to get a more consistently accurate view of your hair length (if that's what the photo is for - if you want nice photos not for length, nothing wrong with angles or other methods :) )

Oh wow, are you used to going long periods of time between trims? How do you know if your ends aren’t just having a bad day/week or have build-up?
My last trim was in August 2020. I have no split ends that I can find unless I search very hard. Before finding the LHC, my hair was long (hip) but I had no haircare habits as I was not taught any as one learns healthy habits for caring for oneself. I trimmed significantly in 2020, but I want to see how my ends survive without trims and with a lot of care. So far they are still soft with no splits or detectable breakage, but they are pretty thin.
Forgive my long reply. I’m excited to learn more :)

On the bottom right of a post, you can find a symbol with quotation marks and a plus. Click on that on each message you want to reply to, then "reply with quote" or "reply to thread". :) Alternatively, you can just mention people's names to whom you are replying. Many prefer to emphasise them using bold text, like this: Hello, WavyWay, and welcome to the LHC!

No worries! Yeah I have just gotten used to going quite a bit of time between trims, growing up I'd go about 1-2x a year for a haircut since that's about when my mom would take me in to have it done (beginning of school year, usually), then I was actively trying to grow it out, but then I bleached it and damaged it, so I joined the LHC I've been mainly trimming my hair myself since. So while it can be tempting to just go for it and chop hair off; it's also very easy to put it off. I'm a procrastinator :)
I use to have very damaged bleached ends, so I learned how to deal with really bad ends for a few years here at LHC before I chopped all that damage off and started with fresh ends. I proper chelate/clarify about every 6ish weeks (before I go in and re-dye my pink half, usually), and the rest of the time I'm using coney serums and conditioners, oiling my ends, and aside from air-drying it down the first half day, I wear it bunned far more frequently than I wear it braided now, so my ends are pretty protected overall. By the time they are grabby and it starts to tangle I know it's time for them to go (my hair basically doesn't tangle otherwise). I still think it over and evaluate for a few weeks before trimming, just to make sure it isn't buildup or dried in a funny shape or the humidity in the area is off, or whatever. My ends never get as bad anymore as when I had bleach damage, so it's slowly becoming more of an arbitrary decision where I'm trimming not as much to cut off damage, but more to re-shape my hemline and help the thickness travel down while I keep growing. That's just personal preference, based on how frustrated I was with my hair when it was thinner before my big chop. I might let it fairytale past classic, if it grows that long, I've yet to see :) I expect it'll be a few years before I can evaluate that decision.

Can someone help me out? I'm experiencing some thinning at the ends of my hair and trying to work out what has happened and what my hair needs. Photos are contacts-only - please send a request if you'd like to see them.
This was my hair in October of last year, after hitting HL and trimming 2" back up:

Here is a photo from today - hand and trousers are at HL. I trimmed for the first time since last year a couple of weeks ago.
https://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=45877&d=1631025072
And here is the most unflattering photo of that set:
https://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=45876&d=1631025052
Of course, my hair is much more dehydrated in today's photos, which is down to routine. That contributes to the lack of clumping at the ends, but to me it also seems that they are clearly thinner than might be expected at this length, and in the second photo in particular you can see a V-shaped demarcation line in the APL-BSL area where the thick hair ends and the thin hair begins.
Is this telogen effluvium? The only culprit I can think of is that in Jan-Feb 2021 I lost some weight. I could have had, or be in the middle of, a shed and not noticed, since I don't pay a lot of attention to how much hair I lose.
There's no thinning at the scalp, and my ponytail is still 4" at the top.
I also have a very flattering photo taken just a couple of days ago, with no wash in between:
https://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=45871&d=1630870452
Looks like my hair has "flattering angles" now!
My hair care practices have stayed pretty much the same since 2019. While I don't treat the ends like antique lace, I also don't know if it's possible for mechanical damage to show this pattern of thinning. It seems to me that the sides are thinning more. Why is there that demarcation line?

Thank you all for the kind welcome. Forgive me for not quite figuring out how to reply to everybody! :)
Welcome! :)
Another tip on replying, especially if you want to reply to multiple people at once instead of separately, is to click on the quotation marks with a ‘+’ for each person (bottom far right below on each person’s ‘chat box’).
I’ve only recently discovered this myself and I’ve been here 18 months! :D

And remember to un tick them after if you do mass quotes or it keeps quoting people you don't want to quote

Hello everyone! Your hair is so inspiring. I’m a new member but I’ve been lurking for a while. My hair is past BCL at the moment when wet, but still not quite or just at BCL when wavy. I'm sticking to my protective routine and hoping for the best.
Is anyone here also in this year’s no trimming challenge?
Welcome WavyWay! I too am a lurker  haha
Good luck on your no-trim-challenge!

Oh my goodness, thank you for the explanation Ylva! I've been here for a couple years but never could figure out replies (and was too shy to ask lol) :cheese:

Following up to my previous musings, I think I'm slowly realising what texture my hair likes to be worn in, and after advice from foreveryours and lapushka in other threads I'm going to try not brushing for a while and nourishing my natural texture with leave-ins (not gel/mousse). It looks a lot less thin when I don't comb/brush it straight (and wear dark colours which suit me, not a high-visibility outfit!).

Your texture looks lovely! I somehow had the idea it was straighter; what nice waves.
I really feel you on the feeling-thin. <sigh> I’ve been contemplating cutting back some for this very reason but I suspect I’ll stick it out in the end.

Last wash day, my hair length surprised me.
I have had a really busy summer and haven't really had time to measure my hair and see how long it had actually gotten. It is now at BCL stretched and at hip curly. My ends are super thin and there's still straggly bits that are just past waist, but the main chunk is comfortably around hip. I'll try and get a good picture next wash day.
I might just hit tailbone by new years, but only just. I don't think I'll keep it though. I'm currently in the no trim 2021 challenge, but once that's over, I'm gonna take off the last three inches because they are very sad looking.

I decided not to grow to tailbone. It's pretty radical decision for long hair community forum ;) but I think hip is totally reasonable length goal for very, very, very fine hair. I had to take some time to remind myself maintaining is an option too. Good luck everyone.

I'm now at 100cm :toast: Actually it's already a centimeter past that, but it's gonna take a while until the majority of my hair will have caught up. I'm almost brushing tailbone, christmas seems a possibility, but it'll probably be a while, until it's gonna look it.

I’m glad you hear you’ve had some good growth - and am sure you’ll relish that trim when it comes.

Hip is a great length! Super flattering and easy to take care of. Recently, I’ve also been mulling over maintaining for a while between hip and bcl (where I am now) to let some more thickness travel down.

I got to tailbone but have so much taper that I'm thinking of taking 2 inches off the ends. I'm getting a haircut Tuesday and I'll decide then how short I want to go. It's driving me nuts anyway, getting caught in stuff.

Slowly growing, getting a trim soon, hopefully I can communicate well enough that I don't end up back up above waist!
This feels like a very chill length for me.
I'd also like to know y'all are travelling :)
