Gorgeous hair; your braid's tassel is so well behaved!

Thanks for the compliments.
I am officially BCL now, I checked, checked and rechecked yesterday. I was in disbelief so I measured my hair several times as well and I am just shy of 37", again in disbelief because I was at 36" on August 29th. So that is almost an inch in 6 weeks. Yay! That microtrim really halted some breakage! I have had phenominal growth since then. That or it was just time for a growth spurt. But I was only getting 1/4" per month there for awhile. Also, I am TBL when wet but just barely. I do not gain much length when wet because my hair is rather straight. BCL to TBL is like an inch on me.
Maybe I will reach TBL before my goal date in December, but I am picky enough about "true TBL" that I will probably not be secure about TBL until then anyway. Finally progress!
I was looking at pics from a year ago and I am not much longer than I was then. I had a 4" trim in there, plus another inch and a microtrim. But it is discouraging to go back a year and not really be able to see a difference. I am hoping 2011 will see some new lengths for me. On to classic soon!

Congrats on reaching BCL, WaitingSoLong. I hope you reach your goal by December. If things continue at the rate of the last few weeks, I'm sure you shall!

Hello lovely ladies and gents, I'm finally at waist so I can join this thread.
Is tailbone defined as the top or bottom of the tailbone? I'm not even sure how to tell exactly where my tailbone is!?

Welcome newcomers!
Harriet, TBL is a bit different for each person. TBL is usually the bottom of your tailbone. You just have to feel it, the knobby thing below BCL.

I am currently going from waist to tail bone. I do not know how long it will take, but it is getting along nicely. I have as off yet not had to chance my routine other than adding a detangler as my hair is getting so long that it loves to wrap around anything, there is little or no damage but to protect the hair I am using a detangler. It also cut down on hair care time. My hair is growing well and I am hoping to reach tail bone in not to many months.

I found out last night that I have officially reached waist! Yay for another milestone! :hollie: I graduated the "BSL to Waist" thread so now I'm here. My next mini-goal is hip length but my ultimate goal is classic. :)

I am just at waist but its going to be an uphill struggle, just measured again and hip is like 36" and BCL 40" I must have a looooooong bum or something. 10" to go, will probably take 3 years for me realistically hey hum im going nowhere!

I have the same milestone inches as you do, Jojo. I've got 2" to go to hip length. I'm thinking 2-3 years with trims for me too. Have you ever looked at a tiny little petite woman and thought "geeze she only has about 4" from waist to BCL and then another 3-4" and she would be at classic. I'm tall and I have a lot of butt to cover.

Mini-milestone for me, sort of. I've been at hip for a while now, doing monthly, sometimes 2/month tiny trims of about .5 cm (less than 1/4 inch) hoping this would thicken my hemline. It is still thinner than the middle of my back, by quite a bit, but definitely thicker than it has been before at this length. Therefore, I have decided that I will not trim this month, and maybe not for a couple months, and see how it goes. I continue to do quite a lot of S&D whenever I happen to be in the car as a passenger and the light happens to be good. I'm sure this is not helping with the thinner hemline, but I know it is helping remove damage and preventing more.
The new routines are adding much more moisture than ever before, and I'm no longer stripping scales off with the plastic combs. All in all, I consider that it's making good progress. It is shinier, smoother and softer than ever before.

I think I'm finally going to start maintaining.I was hoping to reach TBL by december but honestly even if I do it wont really show thanks to my very thin hemline.
when my hair is wet i think it's about an inch past BCL,which is funny because I thought that would be tailbone but it really is not.
I wish I could cut back to waist length but then I would be same place i started my hair journey, and i would be extremly frustrated.
I'm also having extreme difficulty handling my hair recently.and I cant get my scalp clean,I dont know how.I wash twice with shampoo and shampoo bars and I just end up with gunky stuff on my scalp.
mini rant is over.

Definitly at a solid BCl now. I actually checked for the first time where my nubby tail bone is and I think I've got another 2-3 inches til official tbl.
As a bonus, I've got a 5,400km road trip around the country coming up so I'm going to be taking along my scissors and do a major SD while I'm in the passanger seat :) Regrowth is at my shoulders and feeling so very soft and my old fringe that was at my eyebrows 3 years ago is now at my belly button :D
Slowly but steady.

ha ha! yeah i do that and think oh to be short! its going to take me a good year to get to hip. I have just joined the no trim club but whether or not i will manage a full year, i don't know!
funny waist was my goal when i first joined and now I am there I still feel as short as I did at BSL, yet I will see somebody with BSL and think wow there hair is really long and then realise mine is longer! perception sure is a strange thing!

I don't understand what people mean when they say the bottom of tailbone and the top of tailbone. I always figured tailbone was where the nubby bone was. So would top of tail bone basically be your bum crack?

There's always some confusion regarding TBL since people naturally assume it's the top of the crack. So I suppose it evolved to upper and lower TBL over time. I personally consider the top of the crack BCL (butt crack length), and halfway between BCL and classic as TBL.

I noticed last night as my hair was drying from being washed, that my hair was definitely a good inch past bcl. Unfortunately I have major fairy tale ends, so it is maybe all of 20 or 30 hairs and when dry my hair has major shrinkage. So I guess this means upper tailbone for me, or should I wait for more hair to reach this length?
By the way, I'm shy, so I don't write much, but everyone has such beautiful hair!

(I used to be a straight iron junkie)I'm only using it once a month and i have noticable difference in my ends..

Lori, I would love to see that braid! My hair is waist length (or maybe just a little bit shorter now that I trimmed it :-/ ) but my braid is only BSL. I find it so frustrating how much the single braid shortens the length. It isn't as bad with a double.

Well after much ado...I have decided I am not yet at TBL. I have another inch maybe? But a mini-goal, my braid is hip length!Congrats! A hip length braid is my goal too. My hair is tightly curled, however, so a braid on my currently waist length hair reaches only to armpit length. At this rate, I'll need knee-length hair to make a hip length braid. I look forward to achieving that!

Well, I use BCL instead of tailbone because different people seem to mean different things when they say "tailbone length." I mean the top of the line. Some people mean the middle, I think.
BCL keeps it more specific and means I know what I'm aiming for!
EverydayMiracle

It makes sense. I was wondering where "tailbone" was anyway. I would have said that it was the bottom... Where you're talking about lol
Considering that though, it puts it *very* close to classic. Waist to tailbone is a pretty big push, especially if the growth is slowing down (as it is here, for me).
My nails have also slowed though so I'm wondering if it isn't hormonal.

Oh yes, I've been maintaining about this length for a couple of months now because my hemline is thin. I've never gotten longer than BCL without getting discouraged with the thinness or tangles before, but I'm hoping that this time with the regular .5 cm trims I've been doing recently and better routines that I'll get to BCL and actually be happy with my hair at that length. If I can, then I will probably try longer!:pumpkin:

I think everyone goes through periods where their hair stalls out. You will probably have a big shed and then get some great growth. My last hair stall lasted a couple months. I have had an inch in a month, or nothing, but it all manages to average out about 6" a year with no trims.

I just trimmed my ends, but they weren't really thin before. Just kind of crispy. I don't know when to expect the thinning, but I've gotten to TBL before without having any problem with thinning ends. My plan is to get my hair virgin with a thick hem after I reach classic, and then again at knees, if I make it that far. I'm treating my hair *very* well now so hopefully I'll make it!

My hair has finally crept past hip - sometimes it seems nothing happens vs my length, though my roots give the lie to that! I hennaed the 1.5 cm my hair had grown the last six weeks today, so I know it does grow. I am impatient, though!:p

Yesterday I let DBF take a WHOLE INCH off the end of my hair. I'm sort of working towards a straight-line hemline from my current U, and I want to thicken my ends, so I'm liking the results after the trim -- but it took me back to just-tippy-touching-waist. So it's starting to feel like I'm MAINTAINING waist (been at waist since July because of trimming).
When we went shopping I saw a girl with hair a similar colour, texture, and thickness to mine, but right at tailbone (my goal) and I am infuriated. I want to be there!

I feel your pain. :( I just had DH trim 3.5" of my ends after reaching tb. It hurt to be sure, but those were some thinning inches!
So.. here we go again, back between waist and tb, aiming for my tb goal again. I hope it isn't thinning again when it gets there. I think it will be thicker this time. Lots of search and destroys, oiling with argan (or Orofluido) and whatnot, super careful combing, lot's of up do's.
There is some gratification in a more uniform thickness after that painful trim!

Heey everyone,,
i'm just an inch past waistline, but i think my ends really need to get an inch trimmed of or so..
At the moment my hair is soaked in colorless 'henna' to see how my ends will react,a few months ago i tried that too and i think it worked for a few weeks.
So what would you do?
Wait some more months and then get a trim ?
Or go now before the split ends will get worse?
I'm really anxious about loosing lenght and going to a salon in the first place.(if i get it trimmed i want to have it done nicely, what im not able to do:p)
Thank you..

That should help you get rid of a lot of your splits. At your length you should be able to do Feye's self trim method on your hair. Do you have a friend who could trim for you? One of my friends trims my hair sometimes and she does every bit as good as a salon trim and no worries about getting too much cut off.

Mine went from over an inch to less than half an inch. It's been pretty dramatic, but the fingernails are growing again and I've decided to ignore my hair for a while. I'm going to oil, condition and rinse as normal, but keep it up all the time so that I don't have to see that it isn't growing.
I'm also dieting so it could be at least partially nutritional.
I've lost 5.6 lbs total so far. After three weeks. And I'm actually very happy with that weight loss :)

Are you doing S & D now? That should help you get rid of a lot of your splits. At your length you should be able to do Feye's self trim method on your hair. Do you have a friend who could trim for you? One of my friends trims my hair sometimes and she does every bit as good as a salon trim and no worries about getting too much cut off.
Thanks for you reaction!
I'm doing S&D since forever but i guess i have to do it a little more.
At the moment every 3 weeks.I used to be a 'hairstraightner lover' so the ends have quite some damage and split really fast. What is pretty annoying.
Last month i trimmed 0.5inch of my hair but i feel like in a salon it will always be better and a neater cut.I dont have a friend who can cut.
I havent had a real trim since May this year and was aiming for a year without trims to see my yearly hairgrowth.
It does seems to look a lot better then the last time i hadnt cut it for 5 months,so at least there is some improvement..
So i think im just gonna do moreS&D and maybe going CO for a month and then decide whether to get a trim or just wait till May :)

The regular small trims of about .5 cm have been working. My hemline is nicer than ever, thicker than it has ever been at this length. I'm now solidly at 35", which is below hip on me, a couple inches above BCL. I'm starting to think that I might actually make it to BCL, or even TB, someday whilst still being happy with my hemline! Tailbone is getting so achingly close! had some good growth this month as well as a microtrim :)
I'll be so happy when my old fringe is the same length as the rest of my hair. It's beginning to look like a chunk has been cut off at the front on both sides. I don't want to trim back to the fringe length though, as it would be a massive 6 inch chop to get it all one length.
I can be patient :)

Since I am on the short end of this milestone...I had a question regarding growing into the longer Ketylo sticks. I know how to make a Chinese bun and Lazy Wrap Bun...otherwise bun challenged.
I have several Medium 6 inch and wondered if investing in 7 inch ketylos is smart long term. I don't have a definite goal length but I hate to outgrow quality hairtoys.
My 6 inch ketylo fork is almost too small. I bought a 6 inch wider spaced Ketylo and it is more stable. My thickness is ii/iii. I have tried a 7 inch chopstick to try and guess.
I would greatly appreciate any help because I am going on a no buy challenge until I hit tailbone but I am going to wait to begin until after Christmas:)
ErinM
November 6th, 2010, 10:42 AM
I am on the longer end of waist now (in fact, I came here looking for clarity on the official definition of tailbone!) and I still use medium ketylos. I have thick hair that makes huge buns, too. I think it's all just about what kind of bun you're trying to make. However, if you intend to keep growing, and you don't mind the extra length on a longer stick right now, I'd say that you wouldn't go wrong investing in something that works now and will work later.
As for being bun challenged, try watching my video of my pencil-lazy-wrap hybrid bun. I swear it's easy as pie and holds awesomely with one ketylo! See it here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1R1QTYSlkM) Ignore my husband shushing my kids who came wandering in, wondering what mommy was doing. :) I need to make another video with clearer audio and picture, but I only have my webcam to work with. :)

Hi everyone! I just reached waist length while wavy, so I graduated from the BSL to Waist thread, and am now joining this one.
My goal is actually just past hip while wavy, which is probably around tailbone when straight. I basically want the ends of my hair to reach the bottom of the small of my back, I suppose an inch and a half above the "vertical smile" as it were, while wavy.
I'm not trimming until February, with only S&D in between, so wish me luck in not sustaining terrible damage or thin ends in between, so I don't have to chop off too much when the time comes.

Jane53, if you really want to chop something, do it in 2 cm steps wait a couple of days, if it is still too long another 2 cm, until you are happy. You are at your goal length, aren't you? So there is no pressure to reach a goal. Just enjoy your hair. I looks really beautiful in your signature.

I experienced quite a growth spurt this month! Since I straighten my hair periodically, the difference between the straightened hair and the tightly curled roots makes it very easy to tell when my hair grows. I went from eking out 1/3" in a month to possibly 1/3", maybe more, in two weeks. I wish I could pinpoint the reason, but it could be anything from eating more calories and no longer being around cigarette smoke to spirulina, chlorella, multivitamins, or aloe vera juice. My guess is the cigarette smoke, because I noticed quite a decrease in my hair growth when I was around those who smoked.
I hope this continues!

Maybe try a clarifying wash first, to make sure it isn't buildup? Sometimes my ends can feel like they need a trim, but if I clarify and/or do a moisture treatment, they feel like new. :)
SpinDance
November 8th, 2010, 01:07 PM
CTH3989 I'll second the vote for a clarifying first, followed by a deep treatment. I ended up doing a dusting trim on November 1st that I probably didn't need to do because I'd used a conditioner with cones in my first 'C' that morning. I realized what I'd done later, but by then it was already cut. I oiled heavily then did a CWC to get the cones out and now it's fine again.

Hey everyone,
Just wondering, how does one define tailbone? Is it "top of vertical smile," is it a bit below to the bottom of one's actual tailbone, or is it just above? Is it another way of saying "covers the small of one's back?"
I want my hair a bit past hip, but not quite "vertical smile," if that makes any sense.

Ravenwaves 88, wow you have such pretty hair!
Can someone tell me where tailbone is on me? I am pretty sure my hair (some of it anyway) is reaching TB when wet.
I just took this awful shot today (I don't think my hair looks great especially the hemline but hopefully you get the idea) and as you can see some of my hair is about hip, but some is not. And to add a layer of frustration it is different everyday because of those curls/waves (so it is never a consistent length: see signature where it looks fairly uniformly past waist). So, do you call it hip only when all your hair gets there ---pretty much across the board (like Ravenwaves 88 )? I know my hair has grown some because it feels different in the shower (where it touches). But now I am thinking it is only some of my hairs and maybe it doesn't count. Perhaps I should just call this a little past waist? But anyway would someone be so kind as to comment on just where you think my hair is now?

Your hair, unstretched, appears to me to be at hip length. I would say halfway between where the tips of your hair are now and the bottom of your top would be about tailbone length. Whether you measure when your hair is stretched out or not is up to you.

Thanks! Okay that makes a lot of sense. I tend to measure stretched hairs when wet, but I think these photos are the only way for me to determine just where my hair actually falls (as others might see it). So my 32" might be waist but someone else's 32" might be hip/tailbone. Ultimately, I think it is important for me to accept my hair's antics and go with what it looks like (lengthwise) in it's natural curly/wavy/crazy states.
So it sounds like you don't feel like the hemline needs to be consistent (or thick) for it to be at hip---good to know.
ETA: And thanks for the target for tailbone that seems right too (it is so hard to determine because everyone's body is different). I'm going to try to remember to wear this shirt when I shoot my hair.

The longest my hair has ever been is maybe half an inch longer than this. I always end up cutting it back because of outside pressures, and I'm not falling for that anymore!
I want my hair to be as long as it is capable of being. I am really hoping for knee and if it gets there, I'll keep going.

I'm relatively new to this group. In the past few months I've noticed my haircare regime has become more "LHC-y" by necessity rather than choice. I shampoo less frequently, because it takes such a long time to shampoo. I'm experimenting with no sulfate and no-cone products. I learned my hair LOOOOOOVES apple cider vinegar (who knew?) I'm still working to overcome my shyness about all the quirky food products I put on my head (I hide them in the cupboard rather than keeping them in the shower so my DH doesn't think I'm mad!) :p

Hello. I would like to join.
I have stayed at waist for full one year. I just put on the same sweater dress today as in my avatar which was taken a year ago. My current hair looks exactly the same. No progress in length, but improvement in quality. :)
I was not ready for longer hair a year ago. My pre-LHC hair was not in the best condition. I saw lots of split ends. Also I was not sure whether I can handle waist+ length.
After a year, I think I would like to try growing longer and enjoy a larger bun. I like a large bun!
I must confess, though, I tend to get frustrated when the hair reaches 1 or 2 inches below the waist line. I hope I won't end up trimming back again.

Welcome to all the new joiners of this thread! Congratulations guys!
I had a nice surprise this morning, I got DBF to take a photo of my hair and I am in love with it. The photo shows my true colour much better than the photos I have uploaded in the past, and my hemline is looking lovely and blunt, and the best surprise of all ... It DOES look longer than my July photo. I thought I'd been trimming away all my growth, but I'm no longer tippy-touching waist, I'm very firmly at waist. I thought hip alwas about 4 inches away still, but from the picture it looks more like 2. I'll upload the picture when I next get access to a computer (on my phone now). I wonder how many inches I'm at, but it will have to wait because my measuring tape is at home :)

I just trimmed off 2 inches and am just above waist now. I grew my hair for 3 years without a trim. So I am ready to settle back in for another long stretch and see if I can make it over to this thread (instread of lurking). :suspect:
Only 2 inches? It won't take you anytime to grow that back out...seriously by Spring you'll be back at waist.;)
I know what you mean about the trims though, sometimes I just let it go & go until I can't take my ends anymore and they have to come off...:p

...My plan is to get my hair virgin with a thick hem after I reach classic, and then again at knees, if I make it that far. I'm treating my hair *very* well now so hopefully I'll make it!
This is my ultimate goal as well EverydayMiracle...I hope to be at tailbone in another year, before would be awesome!!:p
Then if I can stand my ends by then I'll just let it grow till I reach classic, although with the size of my rear it may take me forever!! :D

I definitely prefer this to BCL. MUCH more poetic. :p
Looks like this is where I belong as well. :) Right now I'm at 30.5. Waist on me is 29. Hip is 32. Hurry hip hurry! BCL/tailbone/' "the valley" of my two "hills" ' is 36. I plan on going onto at least classic. Though something in me is saying fingertip length. :cheese:
While I am actually past waist it doesn't entirely feel like it. :( Partly because my fairytale ends. Also I think having had it longer in the past means this still doesn't feel like long hair on me.

Hmmm.....perhaps ive been wrong this entire time. Im hearing about waist length., hip..and even "BCL" and tailbone. And for awhile Ive been saying I was at waist...but after reading some more posts from people.... im beginning to think that I may actually be past waist length. Im guessing then that "BCL" or the "the valley of my two hills" length..http://i618.photobucket.com/albums/tt267/DARKMARTIAN/Smilies/smile-9.gif..which is closer to where I am.....would be considered longer than waist. So If thats the case then ive been selling myself short (no pun intended) for awhile......:o

I'm trying to decide if I want to trim or not. Right now my racers are about 1 1/2 or 2 inches past bcl but I'm just unhappy with how my hair looks down right now. I'll never have a nice straight hemline because of my curls, but the difference due to drying shrinkage is driving me nuts. The average dry is hip, with some shrinking up to just below waist dry and the racers hanging out at just above bcl. I hardly ever wear my hair down because it just doesn't look good. Plus, it gets into everything. To be honest, I'm not really enjoying my hair. Maybe I'm just at an awkward stage?
So, I'm debating triming to bcl and waiting it out to get a more even hemline, just going with it and triming once I get to my goal of classic to see if I like it better, or going back to hip where my hair didn't get into everything as much.
Can you tell I hate decisions like this?

However, I realize I will be much happier if I reach my goal with a decent hemline rather than with a load of splits and straggly ends.

I think I should actually announce my presence. I've been lurking for a few days. My hair is a little past my waist. Goal is tailbone! We'll see, kind of depends what I can do with it at that length. My hair is really really thick so I'm hoping to finally be able to do all the bun styles by then. I got a trim right before I left the states. I'm curious to see how much growth it will have by the time I get back in June.

I think we've all kinda been where you are. Whether to lose some length & thicken up the ends or just continue to let it grow and live with them until we reach our next goal.
I always say to implement the 2 week rule. Wait 2 weeks and see if you still feel the same way, if so, then maybe a trim is really what you feel like you need.
Ultimately it's how *we* feel about our own hair that matters. If your unhappy with how the ends look, then maybe after your 2 week waiting period reavaluate and see if maybe you could make a compromise?
Maybe not as big of a trim? Could you maybe live with a smaller trim & be satisifed for a while longer in order to help you get to your goal that much quicker?
I know sometimes just a 1/2 inch trim makes all the difference in the world and you figure that on "average" a persons hair grows about 1/2 inch per month so it would only take you a month to get back to where you were pre-trim.
Just another option to think about.

Oh my heavens...it feels sooo good on your scalp. As a wavy, brushing is a no-no for me but I just cannot help myself from using this one from time to time.
Plus it's very gentle.;)
My hair craves moisture too, especially in colder weather so I've had to make a conscious effort to do some type of overnight oiling/deep conditioning every week.
It really does make a big difference for me as well.:)

With the weather change I am also shifting my hair care routine. I noticed my hair was starting to get very fluffy so this past week I COed the whole week and only used shampoo on my scalp once (before a wedding) on the weekend. Also on days when I will be spending it inside either working, driving etc.. it can be very helpful to bun on slightly damp hair and then I put a fair amount of jojoba oil through my length (not too much) and then let it absorb for 24 hours before my wash with shampoo.
My hair felt great for the wedding and I did loose pin curls :)

eh ... I am STILL barely holding ground in the Never Ending War Against Split Ends, despite a ton of trimming recently. It can get me down sometimes how prone my hair is to splitting! I treat it nicely and yet it rebels. I need to get back on top of S&D if I want to make it to tailbone!
I have an idea that some of the splits/breakage might be due to elastics on the bottom of my braids though. That is a bummer because I like braids. I ordered a satin sleep cap today so that I hopefully won't need to braid at night, that will cut down on my elastic usage quite a lot (if it works).

as far as I know, LHC pretty much unanimously measures from where hair falls down your back. I'm pretty sure I'm not 'waist in front' yet, either. I'd say you (and I) are definitely waist :)

I'm almost done with my year of no trims and I'm having a hard time deciding what to do when trim time comes. (January)
I want to have progress this year so a 1inch trim makes sense. (I used to take off 1 inch every 6 months)
But I want my layers gone and a 2inch trim would make it all go away (or at least the majority) and I would have fresh blunt ends, no progress from my trimless year, and back to waistlands.
Any advice would be nice :(
P.S. - If I choose 2 inches I'm tempted to go to a salon because I keep messing up my self trims and my DH refuses to lay his life on the line...lol

With your hair, I would stick to only an inch. You have made really good progress and I have noticed that when people trim their hair here, even if the trim is small it makes a much bigger difference than I was expecting. Perhaps go to a barber to get 1" off so you know it is perfect and straight and then continue growing until your next 1" trim?

I'm right at the verge of BCL - hurrah! I expect to be fully TBL by the end of next year. I have not trimmed since around March or so, and am not trimming until January. When I do trim, I am hoping just to even up ends, not necessarily thicken jut yet. It's taken a long time to get to this point, and I am not ready to sacrifice the length for the thickness yet. I'm planning to do four microtrims next year - one in each season, to work on that. :)

AFAIK, 'tb' was an LHC euphemism for bcl, but now some people think of tb as the bottom of the bone -- which may or may not be level with bcl, depending on each person's particular anatomy. I assume on most people they will be very close though.
guys - my satin sleep caps arrived today! So I'm looking forward to trying that instead of braids, since I think I'm getting some elastic-related braid-tassel-area damage. They aren't made of what I would think of as 'satin' though, they're kind of a very soft almost-netting-like material.

Lots of people 'maintain' once they reach a certain length, for whatever reason...sometimes it can be to let layers catch up, or to thicken a hemline, etc.
But I know how you feel about whether to hurry & get to that next length goal as fast as possible or to work on maintaining.
By your estimate, you really only need about another year to reach tailbone (if your hair grows about1/2 in. per month), without any trims.
Then once you get there you could 'maintain' instead of doing it at waist?:hmm:
I didn't help you at all did I?:o

Such is my dilemma haha. I appreciate the input! I keep flip flopping as to grow then maintain, or trim as I grow...the latter would take longer but the former means thin ends for longer.

That's how I feel, I have no patience to maintain. I will keep on growing and growing until I'm happy with the length (or it stops growing) and then I will probably trim to a blunt hemline and let the rest catch up.
No way am I going to stop my progress to let my layers catch up now! :D

Because waist to tailbone takes sooo long !

I am mostly just ignoring my hair and not looking at in the mirror etc. It will be a very long road until TB for me anyways *shrug*

I should join here now. My hair is now hip when wet and is just about properly waist. Due to having the strangest hemline - the front of my hair hangs to bellybutton length but the back is very curly and shorter when dry.
I am going to do some pics as I am about 10 days off my chop anniversairy. Fairly horrific as I would be on my way to knee by now had I not cut

I was wondering why there isnt a waist to hip tread, haha ,
Because waist to tailbone takes sooo long !
I reached waist 2 months ago but my hair is growing really fast due to silica intake and i guess henna glosses.I need another inch or 2 to make it to hip..I cant wait:)
How many inches do most of you have when reached hip?
Happy growing all!! xx
I know it seems like an eternity! I'm at hip, but "oh you elusive length of tailbone--- so far out of my grasp"!

I think my ends are there now when they're wet. They feel like they're top of BCL when I'm in the shower. But I still need another inch or so to be at BCL when my hair is dry.

Then again, I have fairytale ends...how exactly are are you supposed to measure with those?

Welcome! And I think most people just measure to the ends, fairy tale or not. I measure from hairline in front above forehead, over the top and down to the ends, as the instructions said to do.

Wait, does that mean I get to measure to the longest hair I have? Sweet! That's one's nearly tailbone! :D
Ooh, I got a length shot! Sorry for the poor quality...

I think I belong somewhere in here... I'm sitting at low waist/almost hip when dry and curly (depending on the day :P), and juuuuust above BCL when wet.
I'm thinking I'm at the point where I really should start trimming over the next few months/year to lose my layers, instead of just S&D'ing splits. This time next year I could be totally layer free with a blunt hemline (or maybe a U...hmm). So I probably won't get much longer for a while.

So I had help getting a trim 2 days ago. I asked for about 2 inches but ended up loosing about 4! Not really happy about that but my hair looks, and feels, much better so I guess it was ok anyway. The thing is, this put me about one inch short of waist, so I'll be taking a vacation from this thread for about 2 months ;) See you soon again!

I'm glad the trim did your hair some good! It is up to you, but I don't see the need for you to stay away from this thread because you cut back a little. I'd say you are closer to waist than anything else. So if it helps to stay here for the support this thread provides ----I think you should. :)

Just posted my update on my 2010 goals, and thought I would share them here, too. Going into 2010, I was barely waist and as of early Dec 2010, I am brushing upper tb (bcl). That is with monthly 1/4-inch trims all this year (and June's trim was a full 1/2 inch). I'm a little shy of my estimated goal of full tb by end of year, but I'm *really* happy with my progress...

Thank you!! It's funny because we get pickier as we go, so I feel that my ends are thin, but just looking back at pics from a year ago helps me see the progress...I recommend monthly pics for anyone who needs to "see" their progress more objectively! :blossom:

I am here! I am nearly hip with braidwaves. I am hoping to go to TBL ish length within a year. Sadly true TBL (bottom of my coccyx) is another year from BCL.
I haven't measured my hair for 4 months too -so I will be doing that soon

Hello! I juuuuuuust hit waist, and am working on making it to hip! I have no idea what length hip will be on my because I haven't measured myself yet, but what is an "average" distance in inches from waist?
I was thinking of trimming every 3 months to even up all of my stupid layers, but now I want more length! Maybe I'll just grow for another 7 months before I need another trim. :D

I've had a minor hair disaster recently :(
I managed to get swine flu and spent a week in bed feeling like absolute death, needless to say, my hair was one of the last things on my mind.
Spending a week lying on my hair in a messy plait has fried my ends do I had to trim about an inch off. Quite a lot of the ends have snapped off too.
I'm now just above hip again. Boo!
So at the rate my hair grows, I should be tailbone around Easter.
Wish me luck!

I am ready to join this group. :) I am past waist with my longest strands just above hip. Though my hair seems to grow pretty slowly... I know that it's winter and it may become faster in the summer but still... 2-3 cm in two months time? Or maybe it is simply that it's problematic to measure my wavy hair accurately... :p For the next few months I might give up measuring - maybe my hair doesn't like being checked... ;)

It took me about 6 months from just over BSL to a solid waist lenght and 2 months more to touching hip lenght now. If my grow rate stays the same it would take me about 3 to 5 months to solid tailbone.

This is down from a bun I slept in, that was secured at the top of my head. It therefore has been given extra thickness from that - usually it looks a bit thinner! :)
