Ehi, I... I actually think I could call it bcl now. I checked several times but it seems so unreal that I think I'll give it at least one week to decide/realize.
That sounds great!
Yeah. My hair grows so unevenly!! Annoyed at the fact I did trim it so it was more straight but it grew all uneven!! Aaaaaaa
Is this after the trim? It doesn't look uneven to me and the color is great!

It was trimmed on the 8th and it was even then but now it’s all everywhere. :( why does my hair have to grow so unevenly! I give up on trimming haha.
Thank you.

My sides also grow faster than the middle. It's totally annoying to me as well. I'm more and more thinking I will even everything after the no trim challenge.

Also dyed my hair midnight blue directions but you can’t really tell, ah well. It’s all one colour now and I’m happy with that.https://i.imgur.com/6of8a8E.jpg
It looks good to me! Loving the colour too :inlove:

I feel your pain. I have a double crown and it’s more wavy on one side. So, even though I follow the self trimming instructions, I still have it shorter on one side!
I think you’ve done a good job trimming and dyeing your hair! :)

Thank you. The colour was meant to have a blue tinge but I think it needs actual sunlight to show up! Damn England! :p

Yes I do fayes self trimming and I wonder if I’ve got the same problem, I don’t know what a double crown looks like. I think my hair just grows longer on one side than the other though since I swear it was a proper v shape!! :p Aha!! I found a picture of the hair after it’s trim! I knew it was kinda okay!

Looking at how uneven my hair grew from those previous pics I put and it’s crazy. At least my hair grows fast I guess?
Thank you for that, that’s very sweet. It was a huge effort dying so much hair, took so long, I don’t think I’ll do that again honestly! The mess, the dye in the bathtub... blah.

It's honestly shocking how much hair I have on my head with how much I shed
Thankfully this is the longest I've ever had my hair, so I'm pretty content with however long it takes to grow from here on out - as long as I don't have to cut shorter than waist again, for now I'm just cruising on down 8)
Sorry for just up and reacting to this comment, out of the blue, but... I shed bucket loads on wash day. Like a palm full before the wash, about a palm full during, and again a palm full after it comes out the towel, when I detangle pre-styling products. But then on Monday evening I don't lose anything, yeah like maybe 1 to 2 hairs, seriously. Then when I finger detangle at night as of Tuesday the cycle slowly starts up again of hair falling out more and more as the week progresses (I weekly wash).
It's odd; and I'm a iii too.

Sheds seem random. I went thru a major shed in December. Daily combouts yielded wads of hair. Maybe crash diet over the Fall (I lost 25 pounds!)? Steroid injection for an ankle injury? "Hypothyroidism"? I had my hormone dose increased to 150ug early in the Fall (TSH 6), had another blood test in mid December and you what? TSH was 24! Made absolutely no sense. Repeat testing last month showed I'm closer to fine now. Docs don't know wtf. Still a mess but I'm not shedding much, at the moment. :p

Maybe show a new photo and ask around?
I think it would be hard to see with my usual clothes. Anyway I'll check again during the weekend (with straighter hair pre-wash day) and I'll decide.

When I was heavily into the online curly-girl community I saw a lot of people saying that since you switch to not brushing/combing your shed hairs throughout the week just keep hanging out in your hair until you detangle whilst washing. Makes complete sense but still seems like a crazy amount of hair to lose each week!

Mh that's an idea... I also thought to just check under the shower but I've having some troubles with water temperature and I'm washing it in the sink lately. I could also check the length. I mean I did it, but I don't know why I don't feel like I'm truly there... Maybe it's just a sensation.

Maybe it's cause you feel your hair is still short and BCL used to be a long to you in the past maybe? Have you had hair this long before?

It’s weird when you hit the goal. It’s like, is this it? It doesn’t look what I expected it would look like. But if that is in fact the goal you’ll hit the next milestone in a heart beat :) did you measure ?

I remember when I didn’t brush my hair for weeks and then when I did huge chunks of hair would be out in my brush, freaked me out but I think it’s normal especially when you aren’t brushing as a curly wurly.

The only time my hair was this long was 2 months ago before my trim. For sure my hair is still short to me, but I feel like when I was at bcl before my trim, with thinner ends I felt it more like at bcl than now.
I measured and I should be there (bcl at 93 cm). In fact, I don't know why I still don't realize. I'll measure again on wash day (so straight hair) on the weekend.

So, I ended up washing today, before my wash-day (I was soooo curious about a new shampoo ahah. I'm loving it so far) so I measured again and again. And I decided to call it. Finally, BCL.
I also found a spot to take better photos by myself (maybe). So:

The waves eat more than an inch today. Compared to the last time I took a photo, it's going better. I'm basically changing the amount of conditioner I use. It seems to like just a little bit of rinse out conditioner/mask but a big amount of leave in conditioner

I have some trouble with my shower and can't use it until it has been repaired. So last night I washed my hair in the sink for the first times in probably 20 years. Whenever I bend over my hair tangles terribly, especially the hair close to the scalp so it took longer to detangle, but overall it was surprisingly okay. Luckily my kitchen sink has a hose, so that made it easier.

I don’t know if i asked this before but I genuinely need all of you to weigh in. When you started growing your hair from day shoulder or those middle lengths to long, like tailbone, did you have thinner ends than the rest of the hair?
I don’t know how to describe it, it’s like when I pull my pony from neck down , the thickness of it is smaller as I go down.
If some of you did have this ‘issue’ how did you fix it? Is it positive for hair to be long and have thick ends on such lengths? I just want to know if it worth a try or should I just trim it if to the last thick ending ?

I think the term you are looking for is "taper".
Because each hair follicle has its own cycle, all hairs are naturally a different length. Since they cannot all be the same length, as you go down your ponytail there are fewer and fewer hairs to contribute to the thickness. Some people have more follicles or follicles with very long growth cycles and can grow hair that looks thicker at tailbone than someone else with fewer follicles or a shorter follicle cycle.
Some taper is caused by damage, diet, stress, or some other controllable environmental factor. Once those factors are addressed, we are limited by our genetics to how thick our hair looks at different lengths.

I did and do - part of it is old layers, part of it is that there’s more new growth closer to my head. I’ve had my hair long (well, mbl probably) and one one length before and I see all the lovelies here with thick hems, so I know it’s possible! It just takes patience and maintaining at a given length for a longer period of time.
IMO, don’t cut them out, wait til you reach a comfortable length and maintain. Your hair looks so good already!

Yes, it's a fact of life. Each of the hairs on you head has a unique growth rate and terminal length. The hairs near your hairline won't grow as long as those near the back of the crown (thickest at least on my head :) ). Also, lapis_lazuli's blog entry last year in which she collected some of her sheds and demonstrated taper of the individual hair strands! So even IF all hairs on your head were the same length, you would STILL have taper!!!

I didn’t know the proper name for it, I assumed we have it here on LHC. Thank you for explaining.

Thank you for your reply. I was thinking the same, I was just wandering if there’s a point in it. I mean, thank you for your compliment, it means a lot. However, I tend to post pics when I wash and brush my hair. Which doesn’t look that bad. But today I washed it and looked in reverse mirror how it looks unbrushed because I intended you know to go out with my hair down, and being fine stranded as it is, it tends to form whips and tangles. I can’t brush it all the time. So I wanted to see how it looks from behind when it’s not fixed for photos. And I was both shocked and saddened by what I saw. I really try and take good care of it . The only sucky thing is my diet isn’t the best and I’m not the fittest of people so that naturally might be affecting the quality of my hair. I know it does, while I maintained a healthy diet with all the foods good for hair , the hair looked much more live and nice on the ends. When I broke it, the hair had sheds and in general the appearance of it went downhill:(

Yes I understand that part of ‘haircut’. I imagined how it would look if you grew a buzz cut without ever shaping it. But I didn’t mean that, it’s just , tbh I was and still am kind of scared that my terminal length for most my strands isn’t on length I would like it to be.

Yep I’ve noticed this too, especially when I braid it (so I avoid doing that in order not to see it). I plan to migrate to the microtrim and maintaining thread once I reach my goal in order to thicken it up. Meanwhile I’m taking a LOT of care of the lengt, the middle and roots included, since they’ll be the ones travelling down there eventually.

I just wanted to express my affection for everyone in this thread. You're all gorgeous and have gorgeous hair. Let's not fret and be self-conscious about our hemlines or taper. Belgrade Beauty, I understand how you felt when you saw your hair from behind in a candid photo and didn't like it. However, we should remember that the beauty of hair is IN MOTION and what you don't see is the beautiful way your hair moves around your body - but I'm sure those around you notice! When you take a still photo of your hair, it has gaps and unevenness that aren't visible like that in real life, because when your hair is down it's always moving.

Belgrade Beauty, even if I had long-ish hair pretty much for or my life, this is the first time I'm growing out layers + my hair isn't at its healthiest state, so I obviously experience some taper. If it can make you feel less alone, I often think my terminal length is way shorter than average.
I think your hair looks fine! Also, you're not far from your goal, and when there you just have to maintain and it will keep your hemline at its thickest state.

I’ve been at hip for about two years, have a significant taper.
So much so, that I think most people wouldn’t bother growing it. I go from a ii thickness at neck, to i at BSL.
I’ll keep growing anyway because I look stupid with short hair.

So that’s what I saw. It may be the push I need to start healthy diet again. My hair doesn’t move. I don’t know what that’s called , but she has so little weight to it, I put serums and leave ins and nothing. Nothing weights it down. It’s fine strands, what can I do, you know? But I’m looking forward to maintaining. I’m not ambitious to go for classic, it never attracted me . I will stop at tailbone and with some care I hope I’ll get what I always wanted :) but thank you for trying to cheer me up! I love this thread and people on it. Lemme tel you, I will stay here, won’t move to other longer ones :D

Anyone else experience this? When I look at photos from the past several months, and also by where I can feel the hair on my back, my hair has obviously grown. But when I measure, I always get exactly the same measurement. What's going on??? Maybe this is a sign I should stay away from the measuring tape and stop obsessing about numbers.

Like, is it because your hair at that length is in the middle of a wave so it lays weird? My hair definitely does that every couple of inches it grows into a new wave and just lays weird until it grows more.

I.... cannot measure my hair with a tape measure because it has anti-gravitational cotton candy forces that prevent me from getting any sort of consistent number.
So I commiserate and also feel like body markers are more than enough for me!

Maybe you don't start measuring always from the same spot? I pay a lot of attention to this.

Mh, I hadn't thought about this. I think it's more a mixture of shrinkage and volume. Also when my waves haven't definition, they still have shrinkage. In this days I dried my hair with a different routine than usual, so my hair looks now very straight (I think a 1b more or less) and I realized then usually I have 2 to 3 inches of shrinkage, that feels insane since I'm just a 2a! I mean, my hair is almost straight...

If I want to encourage and keep the waves to their maximum strength, I really need to use some sort of mousse and diffuse my hair instead of letting it air dry. I flip my head over when I diffuse it and let my lengths rest inside the dryer - I scrunch in the mousse in when it's wet but not dripping, and then when it's halfway dry I go after it with the dryer.

Today I still had some housework to do while my hair was drying. It got in the way constantly. Do you notice a difference now that you're wearing it down more? My hair is so prone to breakage, the mere thought of wearing it down is enough to make it split lol. Not wearing updos will only be an option once I have reached my goal length and maintained for a while (but by then I will have no idea how to handle the length more than ever;)). Around here I see so many girls in their teens or early twenties with waist to hip length hair, always wearing it down, very often with backpacks and the hair doesn't look half bad.

I'm not sure because I grew up wearing my hair down all the time, I started wearing it up during the last year. So I don't know about the difference in breakage... I don't remember troubles on growing my hair long because of breakage in the past, but I've never had hair so long and damaged like now.
I see all the time young women with long hair down too! Like BCL to CL, always down.

A friend of mine wears her hair down a lot. But she has been maintaining around waist/hip since her childhood so I guess when you cut at regular intervals anyhow the ends rubbing a bit is not so bad overall. Unless you do something major that causes breakage. But that is just a theory because my own hair didn't grow when I wore it down constantly ;)

Literally everyone I know irl with long hair wear it down most of the time. I think a lot of people don't even know how to bun with a stick.
For sure it's easier when you are already at your goal length. Maybe depends also on what are you doing? Like, I spend most of my time sit in front of my laptop, I don't think moving that little can hurt... I usually wear it down for the first 2 days, that used to be (ah, capricious texture lately) the time my waves stayed intact without a refresh. But if I'm doing something like cooking or cleaning a wear it in a low ponytail with an invisibobble.

Anyone else find their hair tangles more in a (high) ponytail than loose? I like to wear my hair in a high ponytail sometimes, and usually taking it down after a couple of hours will reveal awful knots, which I don't get when I'm just wearing my hair down. On the other hand, it could be due to the activities I tend to do in the high ponytail, e.g. going out of the house (windy weather), exercising, cleaning, all quite active.
I'm still in the "wear it down whenever I like and see what happens" state of mind, though like Finda I can't do housework with it getting everywhere (it's reached "bottom drawer of dishwasher" length...) so my usual daily routine involves bunning for a few hours at a time while at the computer or going about the house, taking the bun down when it starts to bother me, and sometimes just putting it into a low ponytail with a silk scrunchie to get it out of the way for quick tasks like cooking.
I do feel that if I wore it up all the time, I wouldn't know how to handle it when it was down, and that by wearing it down reguarly while doing various activities I'm learning how to move my whole body with the hair in mind and incorporate it into my proprioception.

This is lovely and exactly how I feel about it.
I’ve never been someone who wears their hair down all the time - even as a kid, I liked it up out of my face, but I do like to mix it up. Down, for me, is more tangly if I’m outside than a high ponytail (scarves and collars = the biggest rat’s nest when it’s down; a high pony keeps it away from my neck). I’m very conscious of the wind when I fix my hair!

Ponytails (just low ones, I can't wear high ones due to scalp discomfort) give me the most awful matted tangles at the nape. Thus, I never wear my hair in one except for a few minutes when I wash my face and/or brush my teeth and do skincare stuff and such. Wearing my hair loose, I certainly get tangles, but they're sort of all over the lengths rather than a severely matted spot in one area, so if I had to choose one, I'd definitely wear my hair loose.

This is very well put :)
I sacrificed ponytails as well, because I noticed a bad break line where the hair tie was, but it used to be one of my favorite styles. I remember getting really bad tangles and matted hair even, both in my ponytail and in my neck where the shorter nape hair didn't make it into the ponytail. Like Ylva, I got tangles when wearing my hair down, but less pronounced and more evenly distributed.

My tailbone is about 4 inches, maybe even an additional centimeter, away from bcl. For me, tailbone as a marker/milestone would only make sense when you use the lowest segment as a reference, because that is the point you can actually feel by touching^^ But you cannot discern it by looking at a picture. Your hair looks great in any case! :)

Hopping on this thread for the first time since I now consider myself officially past waist and on the journey to hip/ tailbone. :cheer: :cheer: I'm only, at an estimate, about an inch and a half away from the tops of my hip bones. The journey from waist to hip is going to be much quicker than bra strap to waist. I'm short lol.
At this point my plan is to grow out to hip, then trim back to just past waist where I am now because I'll be past due for a trim :scissors: , and grow out all the way to hip then tailbone from there
I'm so proud of myself for my growth so far. Started from bra strap and things went slow at first but lately my progress has been amazing. :flower: I've learned a lot and I'm finally settled into a routine that avoids damage and keeps my hair growing out healthy.

The ‘tailbone’ or ‘coccyx‘ is indeed the lowest point of the vertebrae column, normally above the anus. However, since it doesn’t fuse until you’re about 30 (it’s in 3 pieces), probably is the reason why some people find it difficult to locate, or in a different position than other people. Especially, if it fuses at slightly different angles. For example, males tend to have tailbone pointing more towards the pelvic outlet (the cavity in the middle of the pelvis), whereas females have theirs pointing more outwards to accommodate pregnancy. Of course, you can also have anything in between these positions.
Well done on reaching tailbone victor_tinyduck!

I’m going to put in an order for hair sticks, as my hair is now too heavy for my satin scrunchies to hold or wear a bun comfortably. I know I enjoy Alpenlandkunst but I also saw two beautiful Mapleburls that are on my cart now. Are they worth it? What’s your experience with those?

I have two mapleburls (from the swap board here, actually) and while one is a little longer than I need, they’re both supremely comfortable, very stable, light, and beautiful. I really like them and would totally recommend them.

My other favorites are some 2-prong acrylic forks from WindsongsAttic. My hair has a tendency to spit sticks right out, so I usually wear forks. The ones I have are great, minimal and super comfortable and I don’t worry about anything happening to them if I toss one in my bag.

I have a bunch of maple burl forks and I love them. Their thickness varies, so some forks can look more on the bulky side, while others are almost delicate. But all of them are super lightweight and very sturdy. And, of course, they are all very pretty!

Thinking about the bcl / tbl discussion earlier - while intellectually I know that they’re the same, I had sort of decided that for me, “tbl” as a marker is really sit-bone-line, aka mid-butt when standing.

This reminds me, I wanted to thank Jools69 for her explanation earlier. I've been wondering if there is some kind of translation mistake I'm making about what tailbone means. I'm definitely not an expert on human anatomy and I have no idea how this might be different from person to person, but I can make out my coccyx midbutt (to the best of my knowledge:laugh:) and it's about halfway between bcl and classic. I do have a wide pelvis, and I remember getting horrible pain around my coccyx from having bike saddles that were too narrow. .
So long story short, I'd also define tailbone as mid-butt, but I realize it might be different for other people. And for me and my uneven hemline, markers are more of an approximation anyway ;)

It’s surprising to me that TBL and BCL can be so distant from each other on people? When I measured mine (;p) it was exactly in the same spot... So nothing worthwhile for me to differentiate 😅
It’s not midbutt on me, although that’s the marker I see on most.

Ah, milestone troubles are my favorite. They show how different bodies' anatomy can be.
On me, BCL stays at 93 cm, TBL at 99/100 cm, CL at 107/108 (I fins this hard to measure by myself) so on me tailbone falls right in the middle. I find surprising that the last bone falls exactly at bcl for someone! Are you sure you reached the end of the bone? Who knows if this has also to do with the body shape.
In my country, usually in hair pages/forum I've always seen the tailbone milestone placed at the beginning of the coccyx (at our BCL basically) so I've found it confusing when I joined this forum.

If I were to be very exact, I’d say TBL is 1cm underneath BCL, but there’s visually no difference imo

Thank you. I must confess I’m studying Osteoarchaeology presently, learning about both human and animal skeletons, etc. It occurred to me after reading through the posts, the way the coccyx is situated in some people might be due to variations in bone fusing. Since it’s also a biological marker for determining sex, variations can also occur between the definite classification of males and females.
All those 3 hour practicals laying out the skeletons twice weekly has come in handy! ;)

I imagine you've already placed your order, pisinoe, but here are my thoughts in case anyone is interested!
I have a three-prong Mapleburl (https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/727573550/the-hair-comb-328-is-made-of-african, not sure if visible) and a beautiful four-pronger which I bought from Milady_DeWinter on the swap board, both 151mm (tine length 126mm) I think. They are just stunning, iridescent and well made. I usually wear 5" or 6" sticks, so this size is appropriate and the dark ends of the tines blend into my hair while the topper shape looks like a little crown. Apart from colour, length, and number of tines, these forks also vary in topper shape. These are my "dress" hair forks which I use when I want to have my hair up and tidy all day/evening. They hold very well. The only concern I ever have with them is that the tines seem like they wouldn't like being shoved roughly into a messy bun with thick hair, that it would be possible in theory for my hair to break them. Nothing like this has ever happened, however. I wouldn't wear a Mapleburl if I had damp hair or if I knew I'd be taking it out and putting it in a bag or pocket unprotected.
My go-to hair sticks for quick bunning are Natural Craft (when dry) and Ketylo Dymondwood (when wet/oiled). I have a Jeter fork and a small Alpenlandkunst wood fork, but for some reason I find it hard to work a fork into a bun without snapping any hairs - perhaps I'm bunning too tightly and this problem will solve itself when I have enough hair to make loose but secure buns?

Also wanted to resurrect this discussion to present my theory about ponytail tangles. When the hair is in a ponytail, it has a thick circular cross-section, whereas when it is loose, it has a long thin cross-section. This means that when in a ponytail, there are more ends in close proximity to other ends, with which they can tangle. In addition, the ponytail lines up ends of different lengths with each other, so it is possible for the ends of longer hairs to grab onto the ends of shorter hairs, if that makes sense. When let down, some longer hairs are then bending backwards in their tangle with shorter hairs, which is a particularly bad form of tangling for me.
I'm very fortunate never to experience nape tangles for some reason, which is surprising as I have a lot of coarse nape hairs. My hair has also never been matted - I wonder if this is also less likely with coarse hair.

This cross-section theory makes sense to me. I have to confess, since upping my haircare game I haven't had the types of tangling I used to get when I still thought fine hair = don't give it too much moisture and was blowdrying on the regular.
I suspect you're also right that coarse hair is less prone to matting; DH's hair is coarse (and very curly) and while he treats it terribly it still doesn't get the types of mats I would get if I left it in ponytails with goody elastics for days at a time.

I never had problem with tangles until I got to hip and started using non-high end products. While here in South America I bought a bunch of local products and at first my hair looked nice but then it started matting and tangling horribly, I never had so much breakage in my life before. I’d finger detangle it and 5 minutes later my hair was a mess again. I used up all the stuff and went back to my professional products and the problem went away completely. Maybe my hair is just a high-maintenance monster lol. With that said, I do have to deep condition very often (or every single wash) and I always do LCO for my hair. Oil the length everyday.

Don't get me wrong, my hair still tangles, but not the epic rats' nest tangles it used to get (the hours of detangling kind) - I think the added moisture and oiling is what really helped turn it around. My hair seems to be much less prone to tangles at hip than it was at (for example) apl-bsl, which is wild.

I don't know why but even though my strands are rather fine (I'm still not sure if they are F or F/M), my healthy hair just doesn't tangle (except at the nape if I'm wearing a ponytail or doing something extra stupid). Even the once-bleached, relatively healthy parts of my hair don't really tangle. Maybe it's because my hair is low porosity? It has always been that way as long as it was at least somewhat healthy, just really slippery and well-behaved in that sense. But I guess it will go the other way round, too - hairstyles won't hold easily!

That is :D I had zero tangles at that length but I hit tangles around kidney level and it's only gotten worse with age. That's why I almost never let it out of a braid. It's the only way I've ever been able to manage it for the last 4 years or so

Pre-poo oiling? I don't do this often.. When I had shorter hair, I had way more tangles because I used to brush it dry and this on me causes a lot of tangles from roots to tips. I needed to detangle everyday, at least once a day.

I think the low porosity could be the reason. Or a combination of that and the amount of conditioner that you use?

Both pre-poo oiling and after I wash it - I always oil the last 20-30cm when it’s damp and often add a little on the very ends on the second and third day. I detangle in the mornings (usually very few tangles) and brush it out in the evening before I put it up for bed.

My hair is low porosity too, I think - and can slip out of a hairstyle quicker than anything. It was a sad day when I realized that sticks just aren’t going to work for me because my hair will cheerfully spit them out no matter how tightly bunned it is! Pins fall from my head, too; it’s very impressive. Even with braids, my hair tries its hardest to throw off the yoke of the oppressors binding the ends.

Maybe, but I don't have split ends. I think it just got longer :p
A strand's intrinsic stiffness tends to prevent formation of knots and tangles so the longer a strand is, the easier it can bend around on itself and others. And the more difficult it can be to use arms which stopped growwing years ago to reverse the process

Thanks guys! I still haven't gotten the pictures I wanted to get (just ones where my hair is fluffy, still air-drying, or wurly enough at the ends to make length shots deceptive). I did some math and I have room for probably 1.5-2" of trims this year and if my growth rate stays average, I should reach TBL by December. I trim more on an as-needed basis, I didn't join any no-trim challenges this year, but aside from strongly considering cutting in bangs last month, not feeling like I need any trims yet. Sorta still considering some sort of long face-frame orr curtain bang, but afraid to go for it myself and pretty wary of getting a hairdresser to do it without chopping off my "dead ends" and setting me back tons of growth. Going to have to think on this one a bit further. The longer my hair gets the more high-risk bangs seem, since the grow-out would take so long.
Here's a fluffy length-shot cropped to approx tbl (mid-booty). I've given up asking my ends to lay flat for photos, so it really only looks like hip length.

Almost at waist here I'm an inch close. I feel like I have a really long back and a really small butt  so TBL seems a decade away

Thanks guys! I still haven't gotten the pictures I wanted to get (just ones where my hair is fluffy, still air-drying, or wurly enough at the ends to make length shots deceptive). Sooo close! And so cute as always. :crush:
I can’t imagine a decent stylist trying to give someone a trim if they came in only for bangs! Have I just been lucky?

Well, friends, if I was the type to call a milestone dripping wet, I could call bcl (though barely) - I think in another few months or so it will make it dry.

I remember feeling like bsb to waist being the longest trudge in the history of hair growing.

Indeed it is! The amount of times I’ve given up or got bored trying to reach waist, because of the ‘abyss’. This time I managed to persevered.

I was examining my new growth this morning when braiding my hair and am feeling a little bit bummed about how long the thickness is going to take to travel down. I think I lost maybe a quarter of my hair last year after I was sick? I also had mayyyybe one silver before and now there are so many! Between the stress of illness, covid, and relationship stresses that have been elevated by covid-related issues, it’s just damn, I did not need to lose so much hair. I’ll be at classic with a fun chin-length layer. :(
At some point I’m going to need to start maintaining, I suppose. It doesn’t look too thin but it does bother me because I was solidly iii before all this. Giant fluffy untwisted cinnabuns at bsb and everything!

I’m so sorry about that... I really can relate. I’m in the middle of the great spring shed. I feel like when it’s done my hair will be bsl... Want to maintain but can’t split the hair right. Husband won’t help, and I have zero confidence in any hairdresser around me... Si yeah. Imma hit legit mid-butt before I get a decent cut :(

I'm really sorry baanoo and I'm another one who can really relate because I've recently lost about a half inch in the circumference of my ponytail due to illness. I also went from a iii to a ii but fortunately mine also doesn't look too thin.
I hope that your excessive hair loss has stopped and that your hair continues to grow to your goal successfully then when you start maintaining you can enjoy watching the thickness grow closer and closer to your hemline.

I'm shedding a lot too due to covid, stress and scalp issues. Thankfully the scalp issues are under control now and I'm less stressed, but I think I'll have to maintain starting next year as well. But let's not worry too much about that! Microtrimming is still very useful.
In the future I want to take care of my hair as much as possible so I may also enjoy it as much as I can to be honest. Once I hit my length goal I'll try not too worry about thickness so much and do what I can while I wait for it to travel down as well!

Thanks friends, I’ve stopped shedding - a lot of the regrowth is about 4” long, some longer some shorter, of course - I feel my overall health has improved and my hair health has definitely improved! Sometimes I just throw a little pity-party and then have to let it go. It’s only hair, after all!

I'm happy for you the shed is over and that healthwise you are doing better! And that you have evidence of that with your regrowth! It must have been scary and it warrants a bit of lamenting in my book.

Really exciting, Bri!
As an aside, I think I’ve finally gained back the last of the weight I lost last year - which surely must help! I know weight is a sensitive topic for folks, but I really didn’t have ~ 4.5kg / 10lbs to lose. Judging by how my jeans fit (the only way I know) I think I’m back to normal.

Your hair looks so amazingly thick throughout to me. If I were you, I wouldn't worry about it as much. For me, I have thin hair, on top of shedding a lot and uneven growth, so when it starts thinning even more on the ends, it's like, hell, I might as well not have hair. Do you do anything particularly for volume or is that just natural? :p

Thank you, that's very kind of you! I guess it's natural because I have poofy hair by nature and lots of it, but I never managed to get it this long before without the ends looking destroyed on me. I do a lot of hair treatments (capillary schedule) and use a protective leave-in and oil on the ends every time I wash, then silicone oil everyday on the ends as well and don't have any splits anymore (before they'd start showing up at APL). I noticed a big difference in hair quality and thickness retention down the length when I started taking care of it more because mine is so dry and porous...
This was my hair before starting it:
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/801610826016096261/835364457953361970/image0.webp
When I want my hair to look nice, I let it air dry to 70% and then use my blowdryer in medium heat, once it's dry I put some oil, put it up in a twisted bun and then after a while let it down and that's how it looks voluminous with some nice waves. I'm not sure if this answers your question though!

No, not at all! I think it'll be a while until then. TBL is at ~93cm on me, almost mid butt but not really. For me to sit on it, I think I'll have to be halfway down to classic at 100cm. Was that your experience though?

When I reached TBL (which for me is essentially BCL) a couple of years ago, my ends reached whatever I was sitting on so they'd start getting caught between me and whatever I happened to sit on depending on how I actually sat down (body/head movements, etc). That was the most memorable feature of my hair to me at that stage - beginning to be a pita. Now my braid tassel is at that same level and until I get around to using a shorter braid lol I've got to "clear it" from the area before sitting.

Idk about anyone else but my butt is small as in, it's like, so far down my back? Or my back is very long and my butt is short/small. So tbl feels far away for me too

My hair has finally reached the elastic band of my underwear! Which means it has hit butt, and I'm closer than ever to TBL! woohoo! I really wish I could make it in three months!
Congratulations on your new milestone! You are soooo blessed to be at butt now! And, so close to ever being at TBL! woohoo! I bet you do really wish you could make it there in three months. Who knows? The two lengths are so close. You might make it there in three months.

I'd also say TBL and BCL are the same on me as well. Since my height is so short 4ft 11" tall, and where my hair is now MBL TBL isn't that fat from it. I mean, it's just a few inches down. I would say 7" away, and I feel that I can reach that within a few months or a year from now.
