Finally got my spring equinox picture sorted:

https://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=40696&d=1584876247

96 cm now!

(also, I'm cross posting to all length related threads I follow :))

ETA: TBL is about 100 cm on me. Still seems like I'll be reaching it at the end of May considering I usually get 2 cm of growth a month.

I see it too, your hair is just dreamy. I love the look of it either way :)
I do a highish bun quite loose, with as short a two prong jeter (very comfortable) as I can get away with. I’m finding it stays in better in looser buns the longer my hair gets.

I wish I could do that but my hair is just too thin right now :(

Hello everyone, I'm ready to call hip! I'm cross posting a bit, but I'm so excited since this was my original hair length goal when I joined 2 years ago, and this matches the longest I've ever grown. I get to move onto new territory, because of course, LHCitis has struck and now I want BCL.

https://i.postimg.cc/HW7pfD14/IMG-20200320-133714-2.jpg (https://postimages.org/)

I keep neglecting this site and my hair, but I hope things will improve as I move in 1.5 weeks (I hope that will make my energy go up). I got the new job in October that I've been slowly getting more and more comfortable with, since it's full time it's also been hard to get used to being away for so many days/week. February was a long anticipating wait, to know if I got the flat or not (that I'm now going to move in to), and March were supposed to be this long boring wait for the flat, but now it turned into virus hysteria instead, and I am so so tired. I've hardly looked at my hair at all other than tried to get it out of the way when I'm heading to work. It's gotten longer, it's full of splits that I haven't had the time/patience/energy to cut out... I do think I'll make some time tomorrow to just sit and do a long S&D session, we'll have to see if that happens.

Today is the 21st, meaning a day where I should take a length shot, which I actually did, and I think I can call hip-length now.

https://i.imgur.com/unGIAb2.jpg?1

I also took a photo of the new Furnival spiral fork that I bought, I just couldn't resist when I saw it in the store. My hair is a bit too short to use it nicely, it had to be a very loose bun for it to go in (so this is a very lazy lazy wrap bun), but it's still holding up 3 hours later + it's comfortable ^.^

Congrats on hip you two! :D :cheer:

I can't tell if my laptop won't load the photo or if the link is incorrect, but I was able to see the photo by copying the link into my search function. Are you using the link on imgur under "get share links" when you post on LHC? I think that is different than the link at the top of the webpage. :)

Your hair definitely looks waist length to me, at least a couple inches past I would guess. I can't see exactly where your hips would be in that photo, but I would say your hair is probably close/at hip length.

I can't speak for rhosyn_du but we have a similar curl pattern and if I condition well enough I can air dry with no product and no manipulation except leaving in a microfiber head wrap for a while and it will come out like that. The key is moisture.

I have 7cm till hip, and 12 till bcl..I just measured on naked body. Can't wait.

Belgrade Beauty
April 8th, 2020, 02:20 PM
Does anyone else change goal length along the way? When I joined I wanted waist, thinking it was gonna take me a year to reach it. I reached it in 3 months. Next was TBL,cause my hair will be there even before the end of the year, but today, when my man took my picture with naked back, I thought for myself , I have a great bum, and I'm a bit short . I don't want to look weird with hair that long, I don't think it would look that great on me to be honest. So I adjusted my goal to BCL instead, maybe even hip, but I'll let it hit BCL to see how it looks like. Anyone else having this shifts in goal as often?

Bri-Chan
April 9th, 2020, 05:48 AM
When I started again growing out my hair my goal was 90 cm /35 inches. But then, becoming more interested about hair growth, I started seeing 90 cm very "short". So I decided I want really long hair, and my goal is now CL that is about 115 cm.

Ylva
April 9th, 2020, 06:34 AM
My goal length has remained in approximately the same area since hanging around the LHC. Before joining, I didn't really have a goal but I knew I wanted my hair a bit longer. I just didn't have a concept of body markers etc. which was kinda nice too. I wish I could partially get back that mindset, but oh well, what can you do. My hair had between between hip and BCL for so many years already prior to the LHC that I just kinda wanted it a bit longer than that but not too much longer I guess. A bit of a rambly answer, sorry about that.

Belgrade Beauty
April 9th, 2020, 08:22 AM
Bri, you are definitely taller than me, that explains it. My TBL is 100cm. BCL is 89.
Ylva, well, I guess that's a different perspective you got, cause you always did have it long. I however never ever had an inch beyond BSL, if that years ago could be even that, I lost the photos when my hard drive died. So I'm the longest I've been ever right now. And it kinda feels not long enough due to body type I think...IMPO classic or beyond would look silly on a girl my height and build. So I'm shifting. If I however, lose some weight, I might change my mind...

Bri-Chan
April 9th, 2020, 10:11 AM
jane_marie I think that you hemline looks actually good.

Belgrade Beauty reading your comment and mine one, I decided to measure again because I'm only 1.60 m tall  but I have a long torso. So, I was wrong about CL: it's about 108-110 cm. BCL about 93 cm ant TBL about 99 cm. Now I should be something around 85.

I think I'm about 1.5 cm away from TBL, but I MIGHT wait until after my June/July trim to call it so I can see where I ultimately land after that cut. But of course, if I feel comfortable calling it like a month before the cut is going to happen, I think it'll be okay since I'm not planning to take much off.

I think my hair actually grows at average or slightly slower than average speed. My milestones are just weirdly spread out - some are really close to one another and others take a year. I have no idea about measurements, to be honest. I measured my hair once a couple of months or so ago but I don't remember the results, and I don't know if my measurement was even accurate.

Maybe getting into the habit of taking seasonal pics (at the equinoxes and solstices) could work well for you. It's easier to see progress then. I totally understand the thing about having hair that looks the same length all the time since I did have my hair between hip and BCL for like half a decade!

It probably is just because of my proportions, yeah. However, I revamped and optimised my diet last summer, which certainly wouldn't affect my hair growth negatively at least. Nor would quitting the bleach. So who knows, maybe it has picked up the pace a bit. :)

Beautiful! Do you do some kind of styling?

Nope. It's like spirals said, just well-moisturized. It only lasts until I put it up or sleep on it, though. I sometimes scrunch in some gel to get more definition and curl at the roots, but I hate the way it feels, so I save that for special occasions when how my hair looks is more important than how it feels.

Hey, curlies! This isn't really the appropriate thread to ask this, and I think I've asked this before on this forum but as far as I know, I didn't get a reply. Since you guys are talking about moisture, and if I've understood anything at all in life, it's that curly hair needs a lot of moisture! But since moisture and protein are sort of opposites (for example, you'd want to treat hygral fatigue with protein, and protein overload with moisture), why are products aimed at curly hair generally so full of protein?

Contrary to the love of moisture, I've also heard that NOT conditioning can encourage curls, and that protein can give them the strength needed to hold the shape.

So it all seems like a big paradox to me! :D

Anybody care to explain a little more about the life of curls, or should I just settle with it being a paradox?

Uh, my fear is always to weight down my waves with conditioner/mask. But, some washes ago, I used a lot more hair mask then usual (I had not enough mask for 2 washes, but too much for 1 wash, so I just tried using it all - I would not leave my house, so who care about a bad hair day) and I also had a pre-poo oil treatment on that day, and my hair looked wavier then usual.

Because manufacturers are dumb? Really, I've no idea. If I were washing more than 3 times a month I'd avoid protein. I kind of do but I'm not strict about it. Since I don't wash much and thus water doesn't get into my hair very often, I use a leave-in spray conditioner sometimes. I should mention I no longer have a concern for the shape of my curls; I wear it up a lot and I do brush it out so it just looks like beach waves most of the time. I just want it to not feel rough or tangle too much. Maybe some curlies who enhance the spirals will chime in.

Hmmm, I don't know. Curlies generally seem to be quite fond of the products I'm thinking of, like almost everything by Shea Moisture. The JBCO mask is so protein-y that I personally refrain from using it more than like once a week even though I have bleach-damaged hair!

The surface of the hair is made up of "scales" that are roughened up when you wet it, for example. In the case of curlies, you know how the scales on a fish sort of "stand up" when you bend the fish? And they lay flat when there's no curvature. It's the same with hair - the more bent (curlier) the less flat the scales lay and the more moisture is let in and out. This means that curly hair is often more porous. (Another way of getting more porous hair is damaging with with heat or bleach, but in that case the scale are "broken" rather than just naturally standing up.) One way of "closing the scales tight" for curlies (or filling in the holes for damaged hair) is to use sealants like silicones or oils to fill in the gapes (or holes) OR, protein. Bigger proteins like wheat or oat derivatives does also lay like a layer on top of their hair rather than penetrate (on the other hand, keratin and silk derivatives penetrates the hair shaft). So with a more closed up shaft the moisture stays in the hair better since it wont escape through the gapes (or holes) :)

Yes, I know how the cuticle layer works and it also makes sense to me that curly hair is more porous, but then again, you also often hear about types 4s that are low porosity and so on.

I haven't decided if I will even my hemline or not. It's very wonky but the tapper is helping me wear my hair up.

If I don't trim my first stranglers will be hitting hip in about a half inch.

I would hang in there, but I often encourage length over (just about) anything (that's me, I guess :o).
What else is there to do during lockdown but to nurture the hair? Right? ;)

And besides it comes in handy for updos!

You could probably measure and sharpie a few more lines on that shirt before getting a new one, that's what my lazy self would do at least. :p

The mantra of moisture, moisture, moisture for curls is part of the reason it took me so long to get a grip on mine :D My curly hair naturally grows in a slightly over moisturized state so conditioner heavy washing and styling results in frizzy mush. I get the best results from nothing (shampoo then a well rinsed out, rinse out conditioner) and letting the wet hair dry as undisturbed as possible.

Silicone conditioners straighten my hair. Not completely, maybe half a level.

I go from almost 2b waves to solid 2a waves, depending on the conditioner.

Cut my hair back to shoulder once or twice since I joined.
Now I just don't feel like cutting it anymore.
I have always aimed for TB length. Have considered classic but not really drawn to it.
My signature & avatar pictures were taken today with wet, unbrushed hair. (my husband was in a hurry)
My hair is currently at BCL.
I have about 2-3 inches to go to TB.

I had long hair when I was 6-years-old, and I decided to cut it after sitting on it one day.

I'm not quite to that length yet, but it's on the horizon. Do you just... what, lift it over your shoulder before you sit?

Personally, I don't really do that, but probably because my length is long enough my thighs just end up sitting on them when I try. I usually grab my hair in my hand in a loose ponytail, and lift as I sit down. I will also wrap it around my neck like a scarf before I sit on the couch, and wear it like that so it stays out of the way of my arms. Sometimes I forget and just sit on my hair lol.

Hi!

I'm totally new here but not new to growing long hair ;)
I really want to achieve TBL again (been there before, with much healthier, thicker hair), but what do you think, should I cut it or grow to TBL, then maintain? I calculated I'm 9 cm (that's 3,54331 inches for you across the sea) from TBL at the moment, picture doesn't show it up nicely with that dress.

https://i.imgur.com/Ah52OYIl.jpg

The short history of my hair at the moment is that I got highlights maybe more than half of my hair about a year ago, and after that, just used henna mixed with 50 % of copper color (some kindof henna cassia mixture) couple of times to hide the highlights and blend it with my own color. Clearly the highlights and the bad hair care (I shouldve known better :() for years destroyed my hair, and it shows.

Welcome to LHC, your hair looks lovely! :)

It's personal preference in terms of whether you want to cut, then grow, or grow first, then maintain. Do you not mind shorter lengths, or are you the type of person who doesn't feel like themselves without long hair? I think you could likely grow to TBL before maintaining... that would be 9 months of being careful with your ends.

Some people don't like growing out so many different hair textures/damaged areas though. If you were to cut your hair, to me it would make the most sense to cut all of your highlights off... around shoulder length. Then you will only have henna and natural hair to deal with when you grow out.

Personally, I would grow first then maintain. I would sacrifice a bit of quality for extra length, but everyone is different. :) You seem to be comparing your hair to how it was before henna and highlights... if the quality of your hair is really important to you then you might prefer to cut it short then grow to TBL.

Happy growing! :D

I'm definitely the type of person who are just "long haired", doesn't feel like themselves with short hair like you said. And now saying out "aloud" (writing) reminds me of it, and I think I would regret if I would've cut it really short.

I think I'll go with the light henna copper color (the brand is Cultivators "auburn copper") for few times at least to roots to blend them more.

This is a picture from year 2010 and it shows my natural color, a really really mosey gray ash blonde. Two years ago almost all my hair was natural virgin hair, but I never liked it. nyholev, I think you and I have pretty similar natural colour. "The colour that everyone has", you know? "Road grey"? :D Personally, I think it's really pretty, and I don't mean this in a selfish way! Of course, there's no requirement for anybody to enjoy their natural colour and your hair looks awesome with the henna.

Photobleaching aka sun-lightening is indeed damaging, but I personally find it less damaging than bleach-bleaching. Perhaps that is because it happens so gradually, or because it doesn't raise the cuticle the same way? I don't know.

I think the problem with my color is that it is a "no color". Its blonde, grey, brown, golden and everything between. I like the looks of it in other peoples head, but for me on my hair it was just boring. Maybe a little toning it to somewhere more brown or copper would work for me. Lets see! These projects lasts for a lifetime so I have time to experiment and make up my mind ;) Luckily the hair just keeps growing.

But that's the beauty of natural hair colours. They're never going to be solid like fake colours are. :)

Anyway, as I said, no obligation to like one's colour! Does henna give you conditioning and/or strengthening effects alongside the colour?

I don't even get much sun exposure but the colour difference is noticeable. https://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=110540&p=3784263&viewfull=1#post3784263 Maybe more "highlights" will pop out more as your hair grows out? :) Something maybe to look forward to if you decide to grow out your natural colour. Your ends look brighter and golden compared to your roots even in those photos.

Good luck with the no trim challenge! I'm sure you will be at TBL in no time. :D

Thank you draysmir and Tinyponies :) Maybe I'll grow a few months (years) before henning and see how my hennaed ends mix with my natural color. I'm in no rush :) Maybe one day I'll learn to love it, who knows! Definitely needs some consideration.

nyholev your natural haircolour is gorgeous. But I can understand you, I dyed my hair for almost 10 years, my colour is quite common and "boring" here, too. A light brown.
Oh, and I have a weakness for natural blonds.

And forgot to say in my last reply, draysmir, your hair color is just gorgeous. The natural variation of color between roots and ends are beautiful.

I always forget that once I get past waist my hair gets annoyingly tangled all the time, no matter how much I brush it and keep it up. It's very weird. At waist it's tangle-free and easy to manage but as soon as it crosses that line it's annoying as hell -_-"
This is why I've never gone past hip and every time I get there I cut back to MBL or waist. I'd like to get to hip again and evaluate from there. If these tangles continue I'll just maintain at waist.

My hair has also been hating quarantine. It makes no sense because you'd think being outside in the
wind and elements would make your hair tangly and damaged but my hair actually doesn't tangle at all in the wind - just when I'm inside 24/7 for months on end, moving only from the bed to the couch! Does anyone else have this problem?? These days I'm trying to sit on the balcony for at least 10 minutes a day because my hair seems to like the light and fresh air lol.

Nyholev, for what it's worth I was always jealous of people with that hair colour! I remember being in school and lots of girls had that colour and I wished I did too. The point about the natural highlights is also true - it looks great when it's sunkissed.

Thank you. :) I really like how your colour starts off more soft around your roots (face), but then gets more bold and golden as you go down to the roots.

I found my hair sat differently once it past waist, and that's why I started to get a bit more tangles. Your hair likely hung down naturally until waist, but once past, it likely has to bend around the curve of your lower back to lay flat. Maybe that's why you notice more issues when you are stationary, rather than when you are outside and your hair is loosely behind your back because of the wind. My hair started to sit or snag on my shirt when it was around hip length.

I had to start handling my hair different around that length for it to not feel in the way or as tangled. Maybe you just need to try handling your hair different ways once you get that extra length. Try to think of your hair as an extra limb now. Maybe if you stick it out for long enough, the limb will feel more natural to you. I got more tangles when I didn't know how to handle extra length.

I also had this similar issue once I passed classic length. It will dangle past classic, but get stuck on my butt lol. I have a small butt, but my hair still somehow always sits on and grabs onto the clothing around TBL, causing tangles. :p

I do find the clothing I wear makes a difference in the tangles I get. WL-HL would be where your pants begin, maybe what you are wearing could be causing more friction and damage than your shirts normally do? Just another thought.

Yes, I think we tend to want what we can't have. :p

I used to wish my hair was lighter, at least dirty blonde, when I was younger. This was probably in large part due to the fact adults in my life would put sun in type products in my hair as a young child to get it to be white-blonde instead of light brown. I have definitely grown to appreciate my hair colour more as I have gotten older though.

I try to focus on not comparing my hair to other peoples. I don't even like that white-blonde colour on me, and didn't care for it when I was a child either. Yet it still influenced me to not appreciate my hair colour for a good portion of my life by wishing it was lighter. Some people would even tell me that the white-blonde colour was my natural hair colour and that they preferred it... that was very confusing. I was taught that my hair colour was meant to be hidden... I think every natural hair colour is pretty. It has that dynamic and dimensional tone to it that bleached or dyed hair doesn't really get. :)

nyholev, your hair colour is beautiful. It makes me think of tapestries.

My hair has suddenly started to feel long. It's noticeably past waist now and has started to flip around in a pleasing manner. I've started to wear it down for yin yoga at home, and at this length I find it easy to move with. Since I wear it down so much and I don't use a tape measure, it's always a nice surprise when I notice it's a bit longer. Anyone else suspect their month's growth tends to happen mostly in one week? :)

ETA: I didn't see draysmir's post just above mine before posting this. Interested to see what happens at hip length. Servana, I wonder if you're also experiencing texture changes past waist - mine is wavier below MBL somehow. I remember Ligeia said somewhere that her hair is straight until WL, and wavy below.

It's been awhile but I'll camp out in this thread again. I'm pretty sure I posted a couple years ago when I was just brushing hip, but I'm still at/around hip. Now closing in on BCL. I had a few large trims due to tangles which repeatedly brought me back up to waist, but I think that has allowed some of the taper and old layers I had to grow out. I'll be trying a no trim challenge for the first time this year doing the no trim 2020 second half only challenge.

Here is an updated length shot. My old one from two years ago is in my album, but it's a terrible shot. It's hard to directly compare them as my hair is slightly damp in this one and has braid waves in the other. Regardless, I think my ends have thickened up even if they're still a lot thinner than I'd like.

barnet_fair, congrats for long-feeling hair! :) For me, the difference usually happens at tailbone as that's when I really need to start looking out for my ends. My hair seems to grow very evenly though, I don't get growth spurts nor stalls.

Pouncequick, your hair looks very beautiful and I don't think your ends stand out as "thin" at all!

Thank you Ylva! I think they're a bit thinner than I want whenever I braid my hair, but I'm glad to know they aren't standing out as thin when it's down. I sometimes get comments irl on how thin my hair is and how it needs to be cut back to waist, but I really don't have thin hair at all (3.5in/9cm circ). Perhaps I should just end my braids sooner than the absolute last point that I can still cross over and stop worrying what other people say. Not caring is hard though!

Oof, people sometimes really know nothing! I think your hair is just so sleek and easily compressed that they somehow think that means it's thin. You could try and educate them about how different types of hair behave, but I have a feeling it might be useless, so you just do you regardless of what they say!

This is true. Nothing at all is wrong with blonde hair and all of the people who comment have quite short hair. Not sure if it's because they're jealous or because they just don't understand why someone would want long hair. It seems like so much extra work from their perspective, or some see it as a sign of caring less about your appearance. I've heard people comment long hair is "lazy" because short blunt cuts require a lot of maintenance whereas long hair requires little to none. I see the low maintenance as an upside. I'm busy and I don't want to go to the salon every 4-6 weeks to get my hairstyle touched up.

My hair is definitely sleek lately. I'm considering that I may need to retype it to see if it's even 1c still. I have noticed that curly/wavy = thick and sleek/straight = thin to many people. Also fine = thin quite often.
I tried once to explain that my hair isn't thin but the other person just argued about it so I've never tried again. It was sort of like arguments that break out over whether my hair is blonde or brown. It's still wet in that photo (so slightly darker than normal) but I usually go with blonde since that's been the majority consensus. Some people get really up in arms thinking I just "want to be a blonde" but I'm honestly not fussed. The difference between dark blonde and light brown is usually judged based on personal opinion by lay people anyways and I guess since my hair is a warmish tone it tends to get called blonde more. I'm surprised how up in arms some people get over absolutely nothing.

I measured monthly grow and got 3,5 cm's of growth (measured from earlobe to longest tips) so it doesn't take me more than 2 months of not cutting and my longest reaches tailbone. Didn't know hair grows that fast, so now I think I won't participate to the "no cutting 2020 second half". Maybe I'll just focus on getting the hemline thicker first.
I've been thinking about growing past TBL too when the hair is healthier, for the first time of my life :) But that's another project after few years...

That is exceptional growth, nyholev. I've personally never known anyone whose hair grows that fast; hair grows an average of about 1 cm a month, generally. Are you sure you measured the same strand? Of course, it's not impossible to grow that much, and some people get growth spurts at one time of the year, and slower growth at another time, so it evens out over the course of a year. :)

Great progress, Ponies! :)

I haven't felt like doing anything with my hair for quite some time now, but I've gotten better at putting it up. For some reason the nautilus bun holds much better than the LWB, even though they seem to be pretty much the same bun, just with the big initial loop made differently? Some weeks ago I passed my 3 year anniversary from when I decided to grow my hair out again, and I definitely have longer hair now than I did before I chopped it. With every cm I grow I come to lengths I've never had before, so it is exciting. I should perform some serious S&D though, my ends are covered in splits, even though they don't show up on photos like the one below.

Another thing I feel like celebrating is that I've found a hair mask that my hair actually likes. My hair, that is either "meh" or "nope" about everything (conditioners, leave in-products, etc), likes a product! It's the "nr 22 hårmask" (I'm so glad I found it, it makes my hair soft and nice, and the effect of it lasts for another 2 washes (and I go 3-4 days in between washes). Today (when I took this photo) I tried to brush my hair while wet with a wetbrush, just to see if it also prevents that poof that my hair gets when I brush it, even when wet, but no, it didn't

I love your waves. Is that your natural texture? :)

Do your ends have breakage at all? You could getting a false terminal from that.

You could try maintaining your length, trimming 1/2" every month for a while to see if your ends eventually thicken up. I also noticed your hemline begins to end around your pant line... do you wear your hair down at all? My damage for the most part starts around hip length, I'm assuming from mechanical damage, where my ends brush against my lap, get stuck in my clothing, etc.

If you have hit terminal though, I think the length and shape of your hemline suits you quite nicely. :)

I notice less breakage with buns but braids are still less damaging than loose. I braid my hair when I'm exercising, when I want to take extra time on fixing my hair in the morning, or when my scalp is feeling tender. I have been trying to not wear my hair loose and I find up and away more convenient than down. It would be even more convenient if my hair didn't need to be taken down and fixed repeatedly.

Also, I just watched the video, she has some thick hair!!! Mine is not as nearly as thick..And it's so complicated to make...Hats off to everyone here who can bun anything other than cinnamon bun :D

Thank you! I think I'll have 4-6 months, because I'm high-waisted so there's a bigger stretch until hip! I think I'll make it before the year ends, hopefully!

Thank you! And definitely, I couldn't stand to be stuck in the BSL length anymore.

You're very welcome! Yes, I know what you mean about not being able to stand the fact of being stuck at BSL length anymore. Well unfortunately, I had to trim back 2cm from WL. So, now I'm back at MBL. Oh well, it's all good. Because, I feel that at the end of summer I'll be back at WL again. My hair takes no time to grow back. It grows kinda fast.

I know that feeling well Pisinoe. It is just a feeling though. Your hemline is thick so you can’t be at terminal. It just takes far longer than we appreciate.

I took a picture with the same outfit I took an older picture in... one month short of two years difference, one brushed out, and one pretty well a hair typing one. My riotous mess of waves comes out looking different after every wash! I dried over night (hair lying loose in my sleep cap, so potential cheat there. Today I have tried braiding it without brushing. That = very messy braid! Oh well! I have put it up and can then cover it!

This might be a larger picture of the up to date one.

pisinoe your hair has definitely grown a lot since I’ve been here, it looks beautiful. I get what you mean about that feeling though.

squirrrel I really love how your ends end so delicately. I can’t remember if you trim? It looks very natural. Your hair looks quite a bit longer than mine though body marker wise we must still be the same. Closing in on bcl.

I trim but only on occasion, it’s just far too easy to chop off all growth otherwise. I think I took a little off at the start of January, and shall probably not trim again until next January. Yup, I’m there with a few of my hairs now, just want to get the main body down there (most of it still had 2cm to go when I measured at the start of the month) before calling it. At that point a I’m 6cm from TBL.

As far as length goes, that could be perspective, or something. I can’t remember how long your torso is, but even if we are about the same there too, I think we have a tendency to think others hair looks longer, whether or not it actually is.

I've just got to waist and it already feels like there's another abyss until hip... lol...

It took me less from BSL to WL ...Waist was my primary goal,so as soon as I went past that, I had the urge to trim the ends, for about 3cm.. That brought me back a month, and now I feel that HIP is just way to far..So I know how you feel...My new strategy( I read a lot that people do it, I never have) is to neglect it ...Oil it, wash it, bun or braid it...I used to enjoy it in the mirror, always down..And it can be a bit discouraging..Lapuska had this awesome idea on how to measure it,so I adopted that too..I now measure from the length till the goal..Like 5 cm more, 3 cm till goal etc...:)

I really hope it's just a feeling! I've been taking care of my length extremely well so at least my hemline is quite healthy and even at 6 months without a cut, everyone I've asked irl said I can wait more because it looks good. At least that will help retain a bit more length and maybe get me to my goal length faster :/ thank you !

pisinoe your hair has definitely grown a lot since I’ve been here, it looks beautiful. I get what you mean about that feeling though.

When I first came here a year ago I was at APL, so yes definitely! I cut a lot and lost a lot of progress and if I hadn't done that, maybe I would've been at hip already T.T. I'm also quite high-waisted, so from waist to hip it's quite a travel :/ I'm trying to keep myself busy by experimenting with treatments, and I hope I can make it a year without reaching for the scissors. I love your hair, so thank you for the compliment!!

When I was almost at waist back in december, I cut it back to BSL because I had ****ed up the cut so much by self-trimming which felt like a huge waste of time and length gain, at least 6 months worth which made me so mad. Thankfully it made me mad enough to stop being trigger scissor happy and I haven't dared to cut it myself ever since which has finally helped me get to waist. I can't really neglect my hair because I don't enjoy putting it up, but I've been kinda crazy with haircare right now and at least that's helping! I'm definitely going to try that length till goal measurement, asap! Thank you!!

Edit: It's currently 73cm and my goal length is 90cm!

Wow sounds like we are pretty much exactly the same length then, I was getting that interminable “1 inch to go” thing but yesterday I had a few hairs that looked like they were brushing bcl. But my little waves are hanging around longer during the week lately, that might account for my confusion.

From bcl to tbl on me is around 7cm/2 3/4”.

Thank you for the lovely compliment, pisinoe. I thought you’d been at lhc longer than me :)

Sometimes I feel like a bit of an imposter because I just let it grow and don’t trim or s&d or anything. My last trim was years ago so my ends are all wild but honestly that’s how I like them :crush:

90cm (from forehead and back) is my goal too, Pisinoe!
I'm not sure if it will stay as 90cm though :D I'd like to reach the point where my ends touch my tailbone at least. They currently hang at the small of my back, if that makes sense. But that's 83-84cm on me (I'm very tall).

I'm a little past waist, just getting to hip length is taking forever... I'm expecting hip by December.
My ends are thin but healthy (i search and destroy a bit).

LittleHealthy and Pisinoe, my (current) goal length is very similar to yours! 36” from forehead to back, which puts me just between BCL and TBL. I think 37”/37.5” would put me at TBL! :) That’s around where I used to be a couple years ago before I made the terrible mistake of bleaching my hair.

:couch: Hello... I still exist and my hair is still growing! I have no idea how long my hair is in inches, but I'm pretty sure it's like an inch of tailbone stretched, which feels wrong. But I've checked like six times, and had my husband check too. I've got like 2 inches or something to go wavy, which maybe actually is correct. I don't know, I've stopped actually looking at my spreadsheet and stuff.

As the kids these days say, I'm just vibin. :rollin:

I'd been in an awkward spot for a while, and unable to do anything but a cinnabun, but it seems I've outgrown that! And I can use my sticks again comfortably, which is extra nice.

Also I literally just now realized I forgot to take a length pick on the 1st LOL. I will see about doing it this weekend!

Pisinoe your hair is gorgeous!

Hello! I've been gone about a year, I think. Last time I was here I was just in this thread, now I'm about ready to move on to the next one. I'm not moving yet though. My longest ends just touch my tailbone. I think I need another inch for all of my hair to hit it.

I was pleasantly surprised when I took a look at it's length to see what thread I'm should join! 😄 I'm back here for hair inspiration!! 🙈 I've been wearing mine in a pleated ponytail most of this year, and a plain bun when I need it to look nice. Clearly I need help! 😂

What styles are you all wearing? What kind of buns? Last year I learned one that was good for waist length hair, where you split the ponytail in two and wrap the haves separately. I've forgotten the name, but I can do that one. That's it! 🙈 Please help! 😂🙏💖

wispe

@pisinoe loving the shine and wave!

@Elliandra - sounds like a Disc Bun! I rarely wear that one, but I feel like I ought to wear it more. I usually alternate strands when I wrap the disc bun now that I'm at a length where it wraps a good few times - it really anchors for me now.
I've been liking the Nessa bun lately, it's holding well for me. That one might work well for you, Elliandra, it's named for Haatraum as she invented it, and her hair is thick too. I've been wearing mostly hairforks lately but I'm thinking I might try more braided buns and see if they keep hold of my sticks any better. My hair is in a phase where it likes to spit out sticks, and is refusing to stay in a nautilus bun or L-infinity, both of which I'd love to wear more often if they'd just be stable. Will re-evaluate in a few inches and see if my hair feels like cooperating then!

I'm back at waist length now, hoping for hip by the end of the year. Will re-evaluate my hem at that point, possibly do some trimming or maintaining around that length before moving on to tailbone, which I am hoping to hit sometime before the end of 2021 (but haven't done the math yet to know how feasible that is. A problem for a later time)

Elliandra
July 11th, 2020, 01:12 PM
@wispe that sounds like a totally feasible goal - tailbone before the end of 2021! And thanks for the bun ideas!! Everyone seems to mention the nautilus, so I found that one yesterday and wore it today with a fork. It was really stable for me, so that's great! And yes, disc bun, that's what it was! I kind of got fed up with wrapping the two strands as my hair got a bit longer, but I wore it for ages around waist length and really liked it.

I'm terrible at doing nice things with my hair though. I always get stuck in a rut then end up cutting it all off! I'm not doing that again though, so I have to learn some styles .

I've checked out the Nessa bun, and the L-infinity, thank you! Both are doable, but on first attempts not very stable (though I need to dig out a longer comb or stick for the L-infinity), but I'll give them another go! Hopefully I'll get better at them Thanks again!

Edit: omg wispe, I've just checked out your IG! You have so many ideas! And a lovely hair colour! I'm going to go like them all. My IG is a tarot one, I'm celticrootstarot. Hopefully that's not too weird

wispe
July 12th, 2020, 05:17 PM
@Elliandra Yeah I've found with a lot of different buns I may be able to do said buns, but depending on certain factors (exact length of my hair, how slippery it may be, maybe how humid it is, IDK) some of them will not work for a few months and then start working/holding steady again later on. So whenever one of the buns I've been living it starts to act up I just start trying a bunch of different ones until I find my new go-to that holds most of the time. Then in another few months it's grown enough to start liking the old styles again and I switch back. I also go through phases where either my hair will start spitting out certain hairtoys, or I'm just really feeling forks instead of paired sticks for a while, or maybe I just want to braid my hair all the time. So there's that LOL

I feel the same about the disc bun. I just don't enjoy wrapping so many times, at least not most days. Plus it was the first (and for a while, only) but that worked, so I got sick of it being the only bun I could do. Same sometimes with a lazy wrap bun - I sometimes modify that one by double-wrapping the first loop around my hand before going around the stem, but my hair isn't quite long enough to make that super stable yet (last time I was at this length my hair was thinner, so it wrapped more. Now it's normal and I need a little more length for some of the styles i'd just grown into before I big chopped)

Also thank you, and I'm totally cool with ya over on insta! I have a hair IG because it's nice to have a reference to look back on of styles I've done and I hoped it would be helpful and perhaps inspiring for others, too. Originally I did it to follow along with a 30-day-30-styles challenge, but I stayed because I think it's neat. Nowadays if I feel like doing something new with my hair, either I look through my saved "try someday" styles I've seen on other people, or I scroll back through my feed and find a style I know I can do that I want to wear again. And if somebody else gets the same inspiration from it, then that's wonderful. (:

Slept in twin braids last night. I am doing housework and haven't washed it yet so to get the braids out of the way I took a barette and pinned them together at the bases. Then I loosened the hair at the sides of my face and rolled each side back a bit and pinned. I really like this look; it recalls a vintage era. Now that I'm at almost tailbone the braids reach past waist. That kind of thing is why I wanted to grow my hair out. This will be a cool style at classic!

Thanks so much Tinyponies! I think the ends of my hair are touching tbl, but with another inch I'll feel solidly there. I'm not exactly sure of the etiquette of moving into the next thread here either! Do I wait till I'm solidly at tbl, or is it best to move when just touching? So I thought I'd stay here another month or so till I feel happier about it! :) I actually can't believe the length when I see it in photos. Congratulations on reaching tbl spirals!!! It always seems so unfair to me that curlies have to wait longer to call it due to shrinkage! I love your curls!

I have a slight wave to my hair and it's very bouncy, so mines is a bit longer wet or stretched as well. Oddly, I have two little spiral curls at my neck that's all grey and only shoulder length cos my son ripped my hair at my neck when he was a baby!

I laughed at that because YES, you know the heart of a longhair. Thanks to everyone. I remember when waist was my goal, then hip. Did anyone else notice any significant changes in what your hair needs during the waist to tbl area? Around waist I started *needing* silicones, and now at bcl/tbl I need a lot more conditioner than before. Of course there's more hair now but I thought the amount of conditioner I suddenly need is disproportionate to the amount my hair has grown

My hair has been acting up a lot the past year, it's more tangle-y than ever, I even have issues separating it into two sections! My hair has always disliked brushing, and that hasn't changed, it's completely pointless to try to sort it out while it's dry. Today I used the hair mask that my hair seems to like for a longer period of time, and brushed it with the wet brush while having it in, and then I used some leave in at the very ends.
After it dried (and I took that photo) I put it into two braids, and it did behave better at that time. It wasn't that difficult to separate my hair into 6 sections for the braids... I will have to see how my hair behaves over the next few days, maybe I need to add something more to my routine to keep it from tangling, I don't know... I don't like the wet brush one bit, I really hate brushing my hair. Maybe I should try combing it with the leave in instead? I guess that will be for next time...

Always a delight to see photos of your hair, Estrid, blurry or sharp.

I laughed at that because YES, you know the heart of a longhair. Thanks to everyone. I remember when waist was my goal, then hip. I never thought I could get to tailbone but it was always my secret first goal, though I wouldn't say. I'd be like "Maybe hip and then we'll see." I think fingertip would be the most I could handle.

FTL is definitely a major milestone since you can no longer reach your ends. That changes a lot of things. I probably won't grow past FTL while still needing to use leave-ins, but we'll see.

Not in terms of conditioner - my hair actually needs less and less by the year but that's because the condition is improving and damage is getting cut off, although much less has been cut off than one would expect looking at how much less conditioner I'm using. However, I notice practical changes like needing to move my (loose) hair out of the way of everything all of a sudden.
