Telogen effluvium. :)
It does look better dry, but I think wet hair is sort of less forgiving, so it shows the truth better.
OH...dear heart (((Hugs)))
I am a retired nurse and had no clue; TBH...I had to google it!
I was into internal medicine and not dermatology; in fact way back then (45 years ago) the derm docs were just becoming a 'thing'.
Praying for the healing of your condition...and your hope on days when your hair seems sparse
Wet hair may show the truth better, but we would never know the difference...at least in pics vs person...it is so pretty

Thank you kindly for all your comforting words. :heartbeat
Indeed, such specialists are a rather recent development. I also didn't go to one for financial reasons but a GP who was luckily able to diagnose it. I think I have somewhat come to terms with the thinning and I do believe that everything will be okay in the end. A lot of big stuff has happened during the past few months, really it's no wonder that my hair is falling out, haha.
By the way, I can never believe your stats when I see the F/ii! Your hair simply looks so thick and voluminous. Are you sure you're ii and not ii/iii or iii?

 Nope...it is all 'fluff' I assure you ...which quickly deflates as days pass after a shampoo, and especially if the air is dry ;)

Again, there is some annoying chemical treatment border at ~BSL. I wish it was at least just fairytaleing evenly rather than in chunks like that. It looked quite even before I started shedding, but I guess that + some inevitable breakage is starting to show now.

There's not too much that is thin though....so now the stress is over, perhaps with small trims it will thicken up again :cheer:

The shedding should gradually ease, I am hoping that it will have slowed down significantly by the end of the year. I don't think I will have a big trim unless the ends become totally see-through. Otherwise, a small trim at the end of the year and another in the summer. :)

Soaking wet, I'm like 2 cm away from BCL and I'm getting suuuuuuper antsy.
It's not helping that I'm due for a trim in December. Even though it'll just be 0.5-1 cm, it's such a stupid timing because it might just take me back above BCL.
Gaah, I must come up with distractions! :D

That’s quite exciting Ylva. Good enough reason to be antsy :) bcl to me seems like a major milestone.
I washed my hair at/in the spring yesterday and it dried very nice again, so I was able to wear it down all evening as we were out visiting friends. It felt lovely.
I keep wondering, how long will it be in the back before I can touch my belly button with a piece in front? Obvs some length will be lost in crossing to the middle of my body.

It would be easier if it was the first time I was reaching it, I think, but I just want to get to a point where I can actually grow into uncharted territories.
Washing in natural water is something I'd really like to do one day. Maybe I'll try it up in the mountains sometime!

Frankly, I don't see any difference when comparing it to this photo (https://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=38789&d=1571314621) from a month ago - except thinner ends, haha. Maybe a month just isn't enough time when talking about wavy hair.

Thank you, Ylva. I went through a phase where the ends seemed thin at the length where you are now. Just keep micro-trimming and I bet eventually they'll thicken up. I love the color of your hair.

Hello all! :waving: Joining this thread as I've hit waist and am really excited about growing further. I hope you are all enjoying your beautiful hair at this length - I certainly am!
Growing past hip (which I suppose I might hit in about a year's time with a trim in between) will be an interesting journey for me as I like to wear my hair loose in the evenings, so I'm sure I'll discover more about the "hairgonomics" of my living environment as it finds new things to get caught in.
I've also noticed that many of my coarser hairs are a bit wavy on the last couple of inches past MBL. Currently I'm not sure if this is some sort of damage, or if my texture will actually become more wavy as it grows longer. I'll post some photos at some point of this and the length.

Thank you! It is very frustrating because I had decently thick ends just a while ago and then started shedding like mad because of shock-induced telogen effluvium. But it'll be okay. I'm mentally prepared to have fairytale ends again.

Can I join? I'm currently between Hip and BCL (and I'm so short waisted that my waist and hip are only one inch apart), but I'm about to cut back to hip to get rid of the worst of my raggedy ends, and then microtrim for... well, it feels like it's going to take forever to slowly trim off the damage/reduce the taper while still trying to slowly grow. TBL+ with a decent hemline is my goal...

My plan was to microtrim and keep growing, but the urge to thicken the hemline has been greater than the wish to have longer hair. This is the longest hair I have ever had and I do not feel unhappy maintaining for a while. I think I will just continue to maintain at about waistlenght until i am ready to grow onwards.

I accidentally experimented with a coney shampoo last two washes, but this wash I’ve gone back to my Shea moisture shampoo with the masque. I missed this feeling of soft clumpy hair so much!
Pics are of last wash compared to this one - waves dried in a damp bun so they’re a bit weird but still there, I think :)

Wow, that is quite impressive! How fast does your hair grow? You know, I'm not even sure. I started at 16 inches 7 1/2 years ago and it's probably around 36" now. But I don't know exactly how much I've cut off in trimming. I'm fairly certain it's been at least 2" per year. I suspect my hair doesn't grow very fast, just the usual 1/2" per month.

I measured my hair today, it's 31 inches, im not sure if that qualifies as waist length but ??? I measured it towards the beginning of november and it was around 29 1/2 inches. The side lengths were 24 and now they are 25 inches. My mind is like?? really? my hair is growing? I know that for me it grows faster in the cold months but like...wow. Maybe I've never actually paid attention to the length? I mean it ends at the end of my rib when pulled to the front so maybe I guess thats waist length?
When I google 31 inch hair though ... i get results that dont look like 31 inches. I could be in disbelief but im happy to see it grow!!

Inches don't tell much in the end since our bodies are all different length and shape. There are also different measurement methods - some people measure from the scalp, while here, it is encouraged to measure from the front hairline.
The waist is the thinnest part of your torso, so if your hair reaches there while in the back, it's waist length. :)

I last trimmed my hair last December. Now it's December again, and I've got an appointment scheduled for next week. I just feel like once a year is a sensible timeframe, and it should help keep my hemline together. I'm thinking that taking off an inch would be ok, but I'm not sure. My hair is nearly butt-crack length when it's wet in the shower, so taking off an inch would feel like a change to me even if no one else could see it.
Siv
December 9th, 2019, 04:49 PM
You'll regain that inch in just two months if your hair grows at an average rate! That really no time at all, just 8 weeks! :) Personally I've cut maybe half an inch 3-4 times this year and regaining that length takes no time!
ETA: so many exclamation marks! I must be really happy!

What are your best simple sturdy updos, guys? (I’m a mid ii and just about hip).
My nautilus is misbehaving, the wraps around are making the middle poke out and I don’t like how it looks!
My lwb is hit and miss, stays put sometimes.
A twisted cinnamon bun stays ok ish but ends shred out.
My hair hates being plaited...

December 15th, 2019, 02:44 PM
My hair likes the LWB, but if I use hair toys only a fork or beak clip works, not stick(s). (I imagine a Ficcare Maxima would work too) Also a knot bun with a tucked tail works fine, but it's not as sturdy. My go-to at work is a LWB or tucked knot bun with four spin pins. I twist the hair around itself rather than just wrap around the hand. So I twist it like I would for a cinnamon bun, but wrap like you do for any LWB. If that makes sense? It makes it sturdier and tighter. That sucker lasted me through a full day of self-defence practise at work

I had my hair up in a topknot today (my shower knot, in fact) and in the middle of my shift at my side job I took it down because it's heavy. I was ringing up a customer who interrupted me mid-sentence to compliment my hair as it was to the front on one side. I was not expecting that and it was so sweet. I forget how long it is until someone mentions it. It's to my waist in front now. I remember when that was a goal.

A twisted cinnamon bun stays ok ish but ends shred out.
My hair hates being plaited...
I missed this post. I usually do a helix bun but horizontally instead of vertically. I work it kind of like you do an L-infinity. I do find the further I get from wash day, the more it slips out. My hair has a lot of traction when it's freshly washed because it's curly and a week later it has straightened out and buns don't stay in. So I use wrap pins in addition to a fork. Wrap pins are very long bobbie pins meant to hold a scarf wrapped around the head which is a method of keeping a blow-out intact. I don't purposely straighten my hair but I find those pins indispensable. If you have thick hair they will help hold just about any style. A nautilus at this point is too big because I like to put my buns close to the nape. If I wore it higher it would be pretty solid. I guess a lazy wrap is the most stationary bun but I just don't like it on me.

Hi hi hi! Long time no posty!! Let's see let's see... My hair is now BCL stretched! Well, a bit past. Not BCL wavy, and I don't think it technically ever will be . My ends just sit right where my butt starts to curve out. It's like when my hair was SL and I had those bad flippies all over again! In the front my hair is nearly waist length! Never thought it'd ever be that long...
I see that there's a question about go to updos! I've just been doing a "lazy cinnabun". I twist and wrap my hair like I'm making a cinnabun, but I don't pin it flat or anything (because lazy). Then with the last bit I'll wrap around the base instead of the outside, and then just shove a fork through the side. It squishes up some to resemble a beebutt bun a little, but I do wrap the coils flat to my head and not under each other.
But lately this is the only comfortable bun I've been able to do. I'm really sad about it! Sometimes I can get a LWB to be comfortable, but then it will slip out at some point. I should really stop being lazy and look up more buns to try out instead of giving up
How have you all been??? I've missed you guys!! Any fun milestones I've missed in the last... what... two and a half months?

Hey Corvana :) I was just wondering how you were getting on recently with it being that time of year for seasonal and yearly updates. Glad to hear youre getting on well! Isn’t it funny how we go through these awkward bun stages, I thought once I had hair long enough to make a bun without it being super tight then my problems would all go away  but nope!
Ive just tried the helix bun for the first time and my ends are just *barely* long enough to tuck in but its holding so far, I like how it looks and it means I get to use my favourite long two prong Jeter which usually only comes out when I’m going out for the evening and have an iPod that doesn’t need to be so robust.
I’m calling hip today! I’ve been called out on the seasonal and year growth threads :rollin: I’m pretty sure it’s there. But BCL is soo far away! It’s gonna be like the mid back abyss all over again. Maybe 5 inches - I’m in the TBL by Christmas 2020 thread and, well, if I make it there its going to be a very close thing.... But I’ll be there at tailbone, which is flipping amazing!

Congrats on hip!!! It feels like you're flying through milestones! I think I'm in the TBL by Christmas 2020 thread too, but I honestly don't remember. I measure TBL at the bottom of the tailbone so that I get a milestone halfway between BCL and classic, so getting to TBL is gonna take ages
Yeah I was the same way. "Once I get another inch or two, it'll be easy street!" Welp... That was true for a bit... :rollin:

Thanks, yeah when I joined in October a year and a bit ago I was just past bsl and stalling from pure breakage of my ends so really really pleased with my progress.
A bit like you, fast through the milestones - your two sig pics look amazing - all that in two years! I haven’t trimmed at all since getting here, not sure if I will.
I’m measuring tbl at the bottom too, just feels right. Should be just bordering sit-onable...

Update on my very awkward bun phase.
I tried the helix bun three mornings in a row and think I’ve almost cracked the theory of it. Can’t get it to stay up consistently- the first time I did it was the best, and ends shred out here and there. I think it’s a super clever and pretty looking bun.
Knot bun was pretty solid the one day I did it but I think I made the first loop a bit too big (a-la Torrin) so there’s room to improve that.
Has anyone got a decent vid tutorial for posh bun? I’m not sure I’ve found the right ting yet.
Yesterday I couldn’t get anything to sit right / stay up / not pull / look ok until in desperation I made a braid and coiled it up cinnamon bun style, and tucked the ends under (no hair tie!!). Now next day late morning it’s still there, on my flimsiest stick, having slept on it. Nothing is pulling, but the bun feels rock solid. It might be the loosest bun I’ve had in ages with regards to scalp hair, and that feels really nice.
My hair historically hates braids (loads of webby, grabby tangling when trying to do it) but this time it was pretty ok to plait. Will have to see how many ends shred out.

I love reading through this thread and seeing all your progress! I've been so occupied lately, with a lot of thoughts in my head, that I haven't had the energy to reply to much myself. All series I've started to watch and enjoy seem to have this gloom over them too, so that's hardly helping. Sigh, I hope 2020 will bring much joy (and buns, please, I don't know why but I can't make any buns work comfortably right now).
My hair is doing its thing, growing, I haven't payed much attention to it, but I thought I should take a final photo for this year, so atm I'm waiting for it to dry. I noticed that when it's soaking wet it's almost at BCL, at least that's something.

I'd say i'm at hip length right now, and right about when i reached waist length i started taking better care of my hair. At hip length i'm starting to notice my hair getting in the way more, so learning protective and comfortable hairstyles has been really important for me at my current length. I'm really learning to love buns that disperse the weight of my hair over a large part of my head, they're really comfortable and prevent tangles!

Welcome jenn14, you’re certainly in the right place :) learning to do comfortable buns changed everything for me, even as a kid I couldn’t stand wearing a ponytail as it hurt my scalp. What’s your favourite so far?

By this method I have 5 inches to go which could be up to 2 years depending on trims. So there is 5" between BCL and TBL. ..for me. That sounds like quite a difference.
Oops I was referring to spirals post.

For TBL, I just go by where the thing points out of my butt. I don't know how right or wrong that is but that's where I call it. "Floor length when sitting" is a separate fun mini-milestone IMO. :) But they're both in that general area for sure. I have a relatively small butt so I don't feel I need many in-between milestones there, but someone with a different kind of body structure could well appreciate some.

I don't really feel this length either. I am closing in on BCL (once again), but this time around my hair is a lot wavier than in the past so I guess that's doing something as well. And for many months now, I've just felt like my hair hasn't gotten any longer, even though it definitely has.

Thank you... I was thinking to trim about 2 inches in few month because when my hair is fresh washed, the ends look so thinner... But watching this pic, maybe I can wait a little bit... I never had longer hair then this length, I also thought about reaching the tailbone and then trim 2 inches
My last trim was in september (1 inch). From may to September I cut almost 3 inches and now I am bored to stay always at the same length

As the others said; your hair does look lovely. I guess it's tough when you're between milestones! I'm around 30"+ now and feel a little the same way. But I've still got a long way to go, and around 4 or 5 inches til belly button at the front, and ages til tailbone! I think 36ish is hip, on me. From the back, anyway.

I think you might be at BCL. I could be wrong but it was my understanding that TBL is where your tailbone ends.
Please, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

32 inches situation, and I am in. TBL is around 36 inches to me... However, I don't know why, but I cannot "feel" this length, somebody like me? I don't know if it is thin in the ends, or because I need 1 inch more to reach the belly button
Ok, I think that It doesn't look this length to me because of the fairy tail ends
Also, maybe I did something wrong with the measurement and maybe the TBL needs some inches more then I thought

I definitely get to call BCL within a week or two! :joy: I'm getting quite impatient and really want to call it as soon as possible so I'm checking my length pretty much every wash.
And that marks my exiting through the gates of limbo length land, at long last! Apart from my brief visit down the TBL lane at the end of 2018, of course.
I just browsed through my old hair photos and it appears that I've been between hip and BCL since 2014 AT LEAST. Might have already been at hip in 2013. SHEESH! I don't call it my limbo length for no reason. About time I grew it a bit longer.

This really is a frustrating territory. I am long in the torso and have a somewhat high waist, so this journey from waist to tailbone feels like the journey from BSL to waist (even though I wear my bra band correctly). The upside is I finally can make a couple of buns I couldn't before. The downside is I need a few inches before I can do more.
The taper is annoying with certain buns, too. I can tell where the bulk of regrowth is since the postpartum shed. *sigh* At least we made a clear decision on sticking with one kid so I know I won't that kind of shedding for that reason again. I was already at hip when I cut it off. I really could have cut less but I think being depressed at the time made me feel more hopeless and disappointed with my hair situation at the time.

I feel that way too, so in my book tail bone length will be when my hair touches the chair when I sit down. By no means official but gives me a goal between BCL and classic...if I choose to go that long.

Thank you, Ylva. I’m pretty sure this is the longest my hair has been, and it’s definitely a lot different to the head of hair I had in my teens/20’s. Coming up 40 and it’s less dense and much finer and flyaway. So the ends are kind of new territory, when I tie a braid off it’s teeny tiny but I’m cool with that, it’s weirdly like finding a body part I never noticed before

amiraaah! I finally measured my hair for the first time ever. I'm not exactly sure if the measurement was accurate, but two out of three attempts yielded the result 92 cm, measured from the tip of my widow's peak (so -1 cm would be the actual, mostly visible hairline). So about 36 inches.

Hi Everyone :waving:
After a trim a few months ago, I am brushing HIP once again, and since my hair has become mostly fine/wispy silver this past year, I am noticing it feels less heavy as well.
Less weight = more comfort = inclines me to go for TBL by Christmas again, and with the "No-trimming 2020! challenge" it will be no problem.
Long term I am even considering going for Classic by January 2022 when I hit 70.....which seems appropriate right?! :o

I got hit by LHCitis, and while I feel my hair was so very long a few months ago, it suddenly feels so short. So I'm definitely growing to TBL now. I thought I'd stop at hip, but I want to keep going. We'll see how I feel at TBL if I stop there or not.

It is always shiny, most of the time sleek, more so after henna. The very ends are basically the only parts that get rough to touch and then it's time to trim them. I'm quite frequent trimmer so getting it longer takes soooo long :)

I think it's up to you. I'd guess looking at those ends that if they were laying straight down they'd reach BCL. So you definitely can call it, or if you want to wait until it's more visually there with your waves, you probably only have to wait a month. So up to you.
I'm kind of in the same boat with calling hip. If I stretch, my ends just reach the edge of hip, but without stretching, I just don't quite look hip yet.

Yep, in the shower, soaking wet, my ends do reach BCL but I can't stretch them there when dry because I don't know which end to grasp. I'll ponder on it for a while longer. After all, the more time I can wait with calling this, the shorter the wait for TBL... But hip to BCL is suuuuuuch a long stretch on me that on the other hand, I'd like to call it as soon as possible.
By the way, your new sigpic collage is very beautiful!

I don't know what went into me, but the past few days, I very seriously contemplated on a huge chop. Up to like BSL or so. It took quite a bit of looking at photos of me with BCL+ hair and thinking about the reasons why my hair is long to get me to wake up. I think I'm only wanting to chop because of the damage and not really anything else, and that, I think, means that it will soon be time to maintain for a bit to get rid of it. I am certain that I will keep cutting back to TBL for a good while, while participating in the no-trimming halves. I very much like my hair at TBL.
I just wouldn't feel like myself if I chopped off all the damage now. It's not even about preferred aesthetic because I don't have long hair for aesthetic reasons. It's just my preferred... form of existence, I suppose, since I grew up around the heavy metal culture where everyone had long hair regardless of gender, and it is generally very unlike me to fuss about anything that has to do with looks, like maintaining any haircut that's more elaborate than a basic cut at the ends.
A bit of a ramble.

Inching past tailbone, I think I had to become more concerned about that. Now, a couple of months before reaching BCL again, I noticed that I was greatly underestimating how far down my ends reached and I had to watch out for them with seatbacks and the such.

Around TBL I noticed I started sitting on my hair sometimes on soft surfaces, like couches if I was slouching :p My hair was around CL when I began sitting on it pretty consistently.
I seem to also be able to sit on my braid tassel now too... my hair is usually braided so I would say this is another thing I need to adjust for and get used to. I'm a few inches past classic now, I believe.

A question for those that have hip+ length: At what length did you have to start avoiding sitting on your hair?
Started sitting on it a while back, probably just below HL, though I'll admit that was ONLY when I was sitting on a couch/bed and only when I was slouching a bit. It's more noticeable at TBL. Even if I'm not slouching on a soft surface I'll probably be sitting on it, and on hard surfaces I only have to tilt my head back a little.

Last week I trimmed 1.5" or so back to solid waist, as I was unhappy with how the ends looked - I've got some layers left over from my days of trust-the-hairdresser CBL shag haircuts. Now it's feeling thick and bouncy again. This is a couple of weeks after somewhat impulsively cutting in a small face-framing side fringe, which amazingly turned out just as I intended.
This was the first time I've trimmed so much by myself, and I'm realy enjoying getting to know my hair more through direct experimentation. There's only so much you can learn from reading about others' experiences - the scientific method requires practical trials, successes, and failures...
Waist to tailbone is a lovely length, and I hope you're all enjoying the journey as much as I am. I'm curious to see how far I can get with my current hair practices: down when DH is around, up the rest of the time. Considering cassia on the ends to protect them, but trying to max out the moisture I can get into my hair first. While I am not immune to LHC-itis, I feel I will be happiest focusing on health/thickness over length on my long slow journey downwards.

I'm starting to sit on the very tips of my hair when I'm in the couch. My hair is 1,5" past TBL :)
Thanks for the answers everyone. I'll have to watch out for this because it's an inconvenience I'll probably not like to put up with for long if it starts bothering me in the future when my hair is finally that long.

I did my first ever scalp-only wash! :cheese:
I tied my hair on a ponytail which wasn't very close to my scalp, leaving the roots available. I braided the rest of my hair. Using a metal hook, I hooked the braid on the shower "box" - that way, I had two hands at my exposal. They were sorely needed as well so I'm glad I decided to use that method instead of holding the braid in the air!
My final verdict is that... I think I will wait another year before trying this again. I managed to get my hair wet down to about my shoulders, which means I got some of the bleached hair as well. I don't know if it got shampooed or just wet, but it was NOT happy about going without conditioner, and my hair was a bit tangly, also partially because it was upside down and whatnot. It doesn't seem worth the hassle yet at this point. My roots are really happy though! My virgin hair is so low porosity that it feels exactly the same regardless of whether I use conditioner on it or not. It's a funny thought that eventually, I might go from double conditioning and two leave-ins to not conditioning at all. :D
Another issue are the sheds that come out during the wash. They remain stuck in my hair until the bleached hair is dry enough to be manipulated, and they might cause tangle issues. In a normal situation, I would brush my hair before washing it, but because I intended for my lengths to stay "nice", still, I couldn't brush out the sheds either. If it gets too tangly because of them and I can't remove enough of them with my hands, I might just end up having to brush my hair anyway.

Well, the results aren't that bad in the end. Even the bleached bits that got affected feel fine. I didn't preserve my wave pattern in the slightest, though.

Ylva, thanks for sharing your experience. I'm always interested in how other people do it. I scalp wash most days, but I've always thought it wouldn't work very well for someone who wanted to maintain a curl pattern. My main motivation is so speed up drying, because I need to wash every day, and by getting the hair we only above the shoulders it dries a lot faster, isn't dripping down my back, and I can use the blow dryer on my roots only. I tie a plastic bag over my braid rather than trying to keep it out of the way.

:saunters in: Heeeeeeeeeeyyyyy! I exist!! I've been having quite a stressful time lately, so I haven't been around like... at all lol. And either my hair is having a wee stall, ooooor I'm starting to get more mechanical damage from the days I don't/can't put it up in a bun. Since I'm determined to at least hit FTL once in my life, I'll do my best to put my hair up more often to sort of eliminate the mechanical damage part of it. My hair is a bit past BCL (I'd trimmed back to a touch above BCL) stretched, and I don't actually know where it "should" be. Honestly, it could be where it should be and I'm just a dunce for thinking it'd be further! But I am still a little concerned about it.
I will say it doesn't feel too much like it's damage, as while I have more splits than I would with much shorter hair, it's still not a whole ton either (I see maybe 20 in a week or more?). And the general state of my ends feels and looks roughly the same as always, too! My ends have never been this old, either, so it's all new territory. What's normal for me, what's not? Am I needing to baby my ends a lot more, just a little? No more than usual?
But now that the main source of my stress is gone, I can focus on my hair again!
OH! OH! So I was at a comic book shop a couple weeks ago for a local game of dungeons & dragons, and the girl working there told me she loved my hair! :crush: I felt like I was on air the rest of the night. She's the first stranger to compliment it and not just my bun/hairtoy in a while! It was down that day because of a budding migraine, and I wanted to play so badly that I considered it an acceptable risk (if I'd had it in a bun, it'd have become a full migraine before the game and I couldn't play). I'd also brought hairties so I could braid it later! I was also smart and put my hair up getting into and out of my husband's truck  No getting my hair caught in the door!
Hmmmm... I think that's about it? How's everyone else growing and doing?

Hi! It's so great to hear from you. It's fun to be in the same growth thread again! As for your stall, you mentioned you were stressed, and it's not uncommon for people to experience a bit of a stall when stressed. So the good news is, since you said your stress is reduced, your hair will probably pick up the pace again. last year I had a bit of a stall in the summer, but then I had a growth spurt after, so maybe you'll even get a bit of extra growth in the next few months.
Yay for stranger compliments! I'm not surprised at all though, you have really pretty wavy hair.
Do you not find that the shampoo water leeches into the braid and doesn't get rinsed out?
Beautiful Hair! I haven't noticed any trouble with shampoo being in my braid. The top of the braid will be a little damp, but I haven't noticed any kind of build up or anything. I also angle my head so that when I'm rinsing, the runoff goes away from my braid rather than towards it.
I'm quite enjoying my length, and all the possibilities. I may put it up in a bun most of the time, but I enjoy playing with different up-do's when I have the time. That said, I'm also wanting to change things up with my bangs I've had a side swept bang forever, and last night I was looking at curtain bangs, and I'm thinking I'm going to switch it up to those. I've been toying with face framing layers for a while, and this gives a good way to do it. My current bangs are just long enough I think I can switch up the style and add a few longer pieces. I'm spending the day watching you tube videos on people cutting them to get a good handle on it. Hopefully they turn out, but if not, it won't be the first time I've butchered my bangs, haha!

I'm finally back to waist after my cut in February. Heres a wash day pic from this morning. I'm excited to keep growing but also this trim has made me realize I hate a blunt cut hemline and I'm not too sure about this weird V shape either. Unfortunately I don't have any from-the-back pics of before my cut so I don't honestly know what it looked like before, but I like more of a choppy long layered look. Blergh.

Thank you Tinyponies! I did not self-trim, I've never cut my own hair before. I couldn't get what I wanted across to my hairstylist, unfortunately. The bluntness really only bothers me when I'm braiding it as it makes the ends all wonky. It's not uneven but it looks uneven, especially in a french braid:

knobbly Have you tried a U shape hemline yet? You could probably trim your hair into a moderate/deep U shape next time you trim without losing too much length. :) It might make your french braids less uneven at the ends, or at least soften the look. Do you show your hairdresser photos of the hemline you want when you go? Hopefully you get a cut you enjoy more next time you go. :)
I would also recommend looking into self-trimming if that's something you would consider. That's what I've personally done for the past few years. There are a lot of tutorials on the forum for self-trims. :D

So I've wanted to post a picture like this for awhile.(sorry for the lighting difference) This is my hair before and after brushing it for the first time today. I tried pretty hard last night to sleep with my hair in a bun..but tiny little strands kept getting pulled and it was so uncomfortable so I just let it down.. Also I micro trimmed the other day because I noticed that my S&D wasn't helping as much as I wanted it to. I wasn't too worried to do it because it's been growing like crazy lately. I have been doing aloe vera powder masks and they've really been helping with detangling and keeping my hair soft and shiny.

I keep neglecting this site and my hair, but I hope things will improve as I move in 1.5 weeks (I hope that will make my energy go up). I got the new job in October that I've been slowly getting more and more comfortable with, since it's full time it's also been hard to get used to being away for so many days/week. February was a long anticipating wait, to know if I got the flat or not (that I'm now going to move in to), and March were supposed to be this long boring wait for the flat, but now it turned into virus hysteria instead, and I am so so tired. I've hardly looked at my hair at all other than tried to get it out of the way when I'm heading to work. It's gotten longer, it's full of splits that I haven't had the time/patience/energy to cut out... I do think I'll make some time tomorrow to just sit and do a long S&D session, we'll have to see if that happens.
Today is the 21st, meaning a day where I should take a length shot, which I actually did, and I think I can call hip-length now.
https://i.imgur.com/unGIAb2.jpg?1
I also took a photo of the new Furnival spiral fork that I bought, I just couldn't resist when I saw it in the store. My hair is a bit too short to use it nicely, it had to be a very loose bun for it to go in (so this is a very lazy lazy wrap bun), but it's still holding up 3 hours later + it's comfortable ^.^
