Hi, can I join please?! I've just reached waist length, I'm about half an inch past it. When my hair's stretched, it's a good inch past waist. Anyway, yay, I've reached a milestone!!
Congratulations Tinyponies I was in the waist length thread with you for a bit! We've got a long time till the next milestone, right?!
I'll add a pic. I have a high waist, I feel, so a long time till hip for me. I'm showing my face cos I've also decided to grow out my henna and see what my grey hair looks like So that'll be fun

Tinyponies, you're too kind!! I'm not loving my photos just now as I try to lose some weight, so thank you!
Kat-Rinnè Naido you're curls are lovely! I bet they eat up the length!! But they look beautiful doing it!
Milesmomna Thank you! My grey started to appear in my mid thirties. I don't think I have any hair that's not some form of grey/white, but I'm not 100% sure as I've always dyed it immediately! Lol So I'm looking forward to finding out as well. Although I think the process of growing out the dye is going to be painful!
I'll keep you all updated, if that's ok?!
And thank you for the comments about shiny hair! I really think henna is great for your hair. Except when you want to grow it out! Lol
Caty congrats on your milestone!:cheer: and being patient to wait and call tailbone length!

Looks to me like you're about 4 inches away? If it's 6 inches, you're going to need a year, if it's 4, 8 months, so I fear you might not make it before Christmas. If it's 3 inches, then maybe yes. But I can't tell that well due to the sweater. :o

Mine is fine. I didn't start researching growing until early 2018. By then I was waist length but I was coloring, and using heat. I've started wearing hair up or braided, sleeping in a sleep cap and air drying now in hopes of retaining length

I’d love to know mine, I’ve been sitting on the fence about it as I really don’t have much opportunity to compare my hair closely to others. The strands break extremely easily but whether it’s as fine as yours, I couldn’t say. I’m hoping one day a nice big lhc meet-up will clear that up for me :)
Does yours split easily?

I don't have a lot of splits, but it tangles terribly and breaks very easily. Can you feel a strand between your fingers? I can't.

I'm a finey as well but I don't consider my hair to be superfine. For some reason, however, my hair is extremely forgiving in terms of how I choose to wear it, and as long as I don't excessively damage it with chemicals, I don't really need to be that careful with it.
Can you feel a strand between your fingers? I can't.
I never quite understood this test properly. Are you supposed to slide it, roll it or just have it sit still between your fingers? There's a world of difference between those.

I roll it.

Yeah I have trouble understanding that test because I can feel everything. I have some sensory quirks and very sensitive fingers - can feel it if I roll a single hair yep.

Yeah, I can feel mine (at least my "average" strand) if I roll it or slide it, but not if I just hold it.

I'm a finey too and struggling at WL (nearing HL)... Split ends, tangles, lots of breakage. Sigh. I'm getting quite sick of it. Plus headaches when I put it up, which I have to do, for work.
I can feel some hairs when I roll them, but not all. Can't feel any if I just hold them.

It def slowed. Id say I got 4.5 inches last year after 2 small trims, that is about average growth but its getting harder for me to see growth on myself. Ive not been good at measuring but I need to start

Yeah, I know the feeling. I had a growth stall last November. It seemed like my hair wasn't growing at all but I was glad that it picked back up in January. Yes, 4.5 inches sounds like average growth to me too. I bet it harder for you to see growth on yourself. Yeah, with measuring you gotta start somewhere. I just measure where my hair stops at on my body. I don't go by how many inches my hair is with numbers. I just go by whether it's WL, HL, TBL, or BCL....and so on.

The curse of being a tallie. I'm not as tall as I once was but we are maybe not twins, but sisters. I'm around 5'10" or so now. And no, I don't consider it a curse to be tall, only concerning markers for hair growth.

I was 5 11” but my operation 18 months ago has got me standing taller, though I haven’t measured yet. Loving how my longer hair suits my body better. I totally love my height nowadays but I was extremely shy up until my mid twenties.

Hi everyone :waving:
You all look amazing and are so inspiring
It has been almost 2 months since I last peeked in ~ my DH has been very ill and will be having open heart surgery in 2 weeks.
To say it has been busy/stressful is an understatement, so when I get some down time I do pop in to lurk but haven't had it in me to post...until now....and that will change again very soon.
I am still maintaining status quo by continuing to do hemline maintenance quarterly with season changes, and checking for race hairs monthly on the full moon to remind myself/keep track.
My length varies from season to season depending on how much is trimmed for necessity and personal feelings at that time; usually it is Hip+ to @TBL.
Thankfully there is only 2-3 inches between any of my landmarks so it grows back in fast and I don't even notice the change in look or styling....but it feels awesome.
Welcome to all the newbies ~ congrats to all the grads ~ happy growing to all :cheer:

Good to see you here GG, you do brighten the place so much :flower:
Sending best wishes to you and your DH for the upcoming surgery, so sorry to hear he’s been so unwell.
Appreciate you stopping by with your update, and see you next time you have the energy. Your maintenance schedule sounds like it’s holding you in good stead.

Yes, having natural reminders keeps me on track....and accountable....last week I 'entertained' the thought about cutting back :shudder:
But thankfully I saw a post somewhere on LHC that reminded another person contemplating the same about how much more work it would be....and that vanquished the thought :magic:

Hi g_lou,
I’m expecting to be here around 18 months if I hardly/don’t trim and keep up my usual growth amount per year. I’m 6 foot tall though so I’m guessing it might go quicker for others.
Your hair in your avatar/profile looks gorgeous :inlove:
Fellow tallie too, (5'10 or 11".)
I agree and am not sure how much of a difference it makes on our grow-time to new milestones.
I think I am at hip now, (my signature picture was taken a half inch ago.)

I'm sorry, this is completely unrelated to anything, but can you explain how to do the animated emojis? I asked way back when I first joined, and at the time I got the "psssffft millennials." Brush off.

I realized today after my hair dried that I'm about 2 inches from tail bone length, (is also bcl for me too.) Wowsa, I hadn't realized that before!! I've been here one month and luckily had a half an inch growth during June.
Jen
p.s. edit to say, I am also in the no trimming group and realize that letting mine just "keep on growing" and then trimming much later is best, (that is how I finally got below shoulders and bra strap-leaving it alone.) Besides, last summer and the 6 months before I'd trimmed twice or so at a total of 6+inches.

Thank you! Now that my hair is longer than ever, I'm much more relaxed about the lenght: I just know that I'll be there sometime but I'm enjoying a lot my current lenght. I also want to maintain for some time after hitting classic to get rid of the nasty bleached part; after all I'm quite sure I won't want to be longer than FTL at most :)

Thank you lots Tinyponies! :flower:Nop, if you look closely you'll see that i've got 3 colors in my hair like horizontal lines: the top is my natural tawny brow, from shoulder I've got about 3 inches of henna only (look purpleish and darker), and the rest is henna over dyes/bleach. I wish it was henna only, my ends would be way better lol :p

It seams to be a seasonal thing....considering cutting back for comfort in the Summer....then grow back over the Winter when I can easily wear it down :hmm:
My scalp gets so sensitive with the weight = migraines = limited styles and less use of my pretty hair toys :(
Today I did a donut bum and had to redo it several times over and hour or so, and even add a couple of spin pins in various spots to balance it because it was heavy/sagging/painful.
I finally gave up and had to put it in a low/loose ponytail and my head still :headache: = thoughts of :scissors: .....except I love my hair covering my entire back.
But I won't.....it could be the day...the weather .....the style; time will tell and I will know and not wonder :flower:
ETA: I definitely will NOT snip....I am at a versatile styling length and to go shorter will limit options.
The headaches are from other things and I just feel the weight of my hair when my scalp is sensitive from pain.
I am grateful to have such length at my age and cherish each day because you never know what the future will bring.
There could come a day when I cannot manage it and NEED to cut it back...until then :tmi: NADA :flower:

Between weight + pulling no matter how I try + slipperiness, my hair has been having so much trouble.
In other news, I'm not sure I'll get to TB by the end of this year, as planned :( I'm either having a stall or my damaged ends (they're like 24 to 26 inches long for the longest strands, so old) are breaking off since they were pre-LHC, and badly damaged mechanically by ColourOops. I think I may cut back to BCL at the end of this year, and try again next year; it's only 4 inches so even with my slow growth, it should get there in a year, as long as it isn't at terminal or breaking off too much.

I think I'm in a stall (or just measured badly), only 1/4" more during July. I was also quite sick for a couple of weeks, plus working and studing in a 14-15/24 hours schedule because of my new job, so I think it has sense. Oh well, at least it's getting longer! Just need 1 1/4" to be TBL, so I will be TBL during autumn no matter what.
I also wore my hair down at work 1 day last week, because I gave myself a free afternoon to go out to lunch and hang out with some friends, and everybody at work was so much shocked (I wear it bunned most of the time, just 1 day I went with a dutch braid what was already shocking), even people from other departments came with any excuse to my table to ask anything and then add "you're hair is so long! And it's BIG". And I was like "ehm yep, it is". I felt flattered and slightly uncomfortable at the same time. i think I'll wear my hair loose 1/month or so, so people will get used to it and won't comment about it that much. I only received compliments, except for a girl who said that she would never had her hair that long because it needs so much work - talking with her, I discovered that she needed about 45 min to get hair-ready while I just need like 1-3 min, so yep, long hair is so time consuming lol. But it was still weird... Does anyone else feel like this? Pre-LHC I already received comments about my hair (which was about WL or so), but now that it's reaching uncommon lenghts it's getting way more attention.

I only get the "it's getting so long" comments from friends/family, and never in a negative way. Well, other than my mother who once asked "Are you still applying oil strand by strand", and insisted that was how I did it the one time she saw me put leave-ins before bed. And she also asks when am I going to stop growing/isn't it long enough.
But my hair is a) much less thick, and b) has so much taper I think most people see it ending at waist rather than BCL+.
Strangers never comment, acquaintances never comment, etc. But I also rarely have my hair down. The last time I had it down, I didn't get any comments, I think. I heard someone whistle twice but it was when I was walking past a construction area (which is everywhere in summer) so I assumed it was to signal something since they didn't say anything else.
I just get weird looks when I take hair photos xD
I do get a lot of "you must spend so much time putting it up!" till I made a video of me doing a nautilus bun that took like 30 seconds if that. The only bits that take long are detangling every day, washing (since I use more products), and drying.

Hi! I am new to LHC and I’ve been reading so much! I think that I am part of this thread. I am very close to tailbone I think! I do dye my hair so it makes it much harder for me to grow out my hair but I use the entire Olaplex system which has literally saved my hair. I also use deep conditioner treatments weekly with my hot heads heat cap, I search and destroy split ends daily, use oils daily, I’ve started the inversion method, and I use Jamaican black castle oil on my scalp.
Here is 2 photos of my current length:

YasssQueenElsa, welcome to the LHC! Your hair looks lovely :)
Your longest strands seem like they're tailbone to me, so maybe tailbone to classic? If you feel you don't fit that, you can always hang out here till your hair seems more like tailbone to you :)
I'm only supposed to measure my length on the first of September but I think I might ask K to measure it for me today because I think my longest strands are at tailbone! I'll still be hanging out here for the rest of the year, though, since my longest strands are literally between 1 to 5 strands, and it doesn't seem 'right' to officially call it.

YassQueenElsa - Welcome - LOVE your color! So beautiful! :flower:
Caraid - Oh my - See you have the henna color that makes us natural gingers green with envy! I've thought about henna soooo many times - may just eek that direction here soon!!
milady For starters - I cannot even fathom how anyone would make awkward comments about your hair - you have one of my favorite heads of hair ANYWHERE! (I actually occasionally show DH photos when I'm ogling it on IG :D ) second - Yeah - I'm starting to get those "Oh wow! Your hair has gotten so long - how old are you?" comments. Grrrrrrr Yes, I'm over 40 - Yes my hair is longer than WL - NO IT'S NOT YOUR BUSINESS. I feel like Carolyn's "I'm not here to decorate your world" applies more to me every day.
Also milady sharing a photo of one of my dearest friends - who is at least your hair cousin - if not twin. She runs a horse farm - and is around Hip. But she has one of my other favorite heads of hair so I'm sharing her. :D

Here is my progress photo! This has been a little over a year. I’ve trimmed twice since the first picture. Dying my hair truly makes this harder. I am so thankful for Olaplex. It has literally saved my hair. I do a lot of deep conditioning and oils too. Everyday I have to search and destroy split ends so I don’t have to trim. I have PCOS and dealing with dry scalp and dandruff as a symptom. It’s driving me insane. I’m doing tea tree oil shampoo on my scalp and it seems to help some. I just started CWC because of this forum and I try to never dry my hair or use heat on it now. I never really used a lot of heat but I have been guilty at times. It was like once a month or less.https://i.postimg.cc/J4hRPbD3/8-CDB8298-BF5-D-4207-A893-A13-B7-C07-F6-B1.jpg

MoonChild, sounds like you belong here - it’s a bit confusing because there’s this waist to tailbone and there’s also the waist to hip thread. Congrats on reaching waist, it’s a lovely length.

Thank you ylva and tinyponies! My hair is so close to hip when it’s wet but when dry it’s just a little bit longer than waist. Maybe in the end of this year my hair will be hip length. I really want to reach hip length because i feel that this length is when i will feel that my hair is long and because every time my hair is close to hip i chop it all off.

I got K to measure on Sunday. Most of my long strands are at 38.5 inches so either I'm reaching terminal or it's breaking off from mishandling/use. I'm more inclined to the latter since I have a ton of white dots though most of my sheds seem to be the whole strand (I probably miss the smaller ones, though). I'm still going to give it to the end of the year to try to get to 40 inches, but I think I'm going to maintain around BCL (36 inches) to where I am now, and trim for a bit; if I'm purposefully keeping my hair shorter, it's less upsetting than if I'm trying to grow it out, you know? It'll also give me time to see how my taper travels down, and to get rid of all of the older more damaged ends. I'm still dyeing my hair so I expect I'll have damage for quite some time but I'm also taking better care of my hair which at least means minimal physical damage. A trim for a year or so will probably help a lot.
If I get to 40 inches (which I doubt), then I'll probably just maintain there; do a trim every 4 months or so to remain roughly at 40 inches for at least a year.
Solgave, lovely!

So I think this is where I belong! I was right about TBL before I trimmed the other day. I've been trimming two to three inches off every few months for the past couple of years to clean up the remaining sulfate damaged ends from years ago, before I went sulfate free. After I reach the 25 post mark, I'll get a good picture in the sun to put up in my profile.
I've been gradually adding inches even with the trims, though the ends are so thin compared to the non-sulfate, healthy hair. There's a clear line of demarkation between the two. Some days I just want to chop it all off and be done with it. But that's roughly eight inches and it hurts to think about losing all of that length. Even though the ends are thinner, they give me added length needed for some of the braiding fun I enjoy. I feel like my hair grows pretty fast, though the curl makes it seem like it's on pause every now and then.
I just wanted to say hi and that I'm looking forward to spending the next year or so with you all until I move down into the next length category!

Aw thank you! But I'M the one green with envy of natural gingers!!! to be born with that colour would be a dream!! but I bet if you did a henna gloss or very short henna application it would give a gorgeous electric colour boost to already ginger hair! but your natural colour looks absolutely lovely and jealousy-inducing as is!!

whopeedo you guysss, I reached hip-length this summer! The heat or sun or whatever always gives me a growth-boost. Next "body-marker" is my goal length, BCL! Crazy! The goal after that is to maintain and gradually trim off damage until my ends feel better, they've been quite split and rough for some months now.

I’m teetering on the fence between the last milestone thread and this one. I have a few hairs at waist but want to wait another month. My hair is 29.5”, I’m extremely tall. Do you guys have a basic reference for exactly what constitutes ‘hip’ length? Is it where your hip bones poke out at the front/sides, then drawing an invisible line around to the back?

I haven't done a length shot in a while so I decided to take one after doing a little trim to clean up the ends the other day! I don't think I'm a hip yet but I'm happy with having now definitely passed waist!

I think it's still possible for me to reach BCL by the end of this year but I doubt I'll get further than that. I probably won't trim anymore this year.
Also, as you can see from the pic, I am high-hipped so hip length, in reality, means f all in my case. :D

Something like that - I am planning to trim before the latter half of no-trimming 2020, and once between that and this trim. I hope that made some sense, haha. Then I won't trim for the rest of 2020 and will see where I end up by the end of it. :)

I'm calling tailbone length! I've hardly taken any pics of my hair since I moved in June, but my Mum flew down last week to visit and I was able to get her to take a pic for me. I've really didn't think it has grown that much until I saw the photo and I was so excited to see it had grown after all! It's kind of hard to see the ends (the challenge of dark hair when you predominantly wear dark clothing, lol) but I think it's there. I'm planning to grow on to classic next (although I will trim a little to blunten the ends some at the end of year and every 3-6 months thereafter, so it's not going to be a fast process).

I can't wait to get back to the butt zone. As a stupidly high-hipped abomination, hip to BCL is probably my longest milestone - above the butt, at least. Below, I haven't quite pondered on, but I'm guessing there are longer ones there since I have rather long legs. It's not something I worry about at this point in time. This is just such a boring stretch for me since my hair has always sort of "ended up" around this length after hairdresser visits.
I've sworn to myself that I will no longer be cutting above TBL, no matter what.

I relate to this! I would call growing past hip the worst so far. Besides it taking forever, when I reached BCL first time during hip I decided 'hey you know what would be smart? Trim it so the hemline is thicker!' (honestly the hemline did not need it) I regretted it for months and still kinda regret it because it caused my hair to remain at hip for months and thous slowed down my over all progress.
So I'm thinking about not trimming my hair atleast until TBL or maybe even Classic as well.
The area I consider hiplength on my body (the abyss from hipbone to BCL) is around 10cm long, while BCL to TBL is around 5cm, so it should definitely go faster now until next milestone. I hope you will reach butt zone soon too :o

Approx. 6 months for me until I reach my goal length BCL (butt length!), then another 4 until TBL where I plan to cut back to BCL to deal with my funky ends... It's not too long I guess, I've been growing for years already!

I'm glad to read this (although I feel your pain) because I've been pondering trimming my hemline to make it thicker myself. But this reminds me how painful it would be to have to grow it back to TBL again! I'm tall and (to be brutally honest), large in the derriere, so it's taken ages to get to here. This is a good reminder for me to leave it alone!

Welp, as stupid as it is, I might end up with thin ends again, despite all my effort to thicken them up, which did happen, and I was so ready to just grow onwards, but...
Then came what seems to be a trauma-induced shed. I'm not panicking or anything because there's no point, but I do feel down about it and just wonder how long it will go on for and how much (or little) hair I will be left with. I'm not sure how far I'd be willing to let it go before doing a chop, I'll just have to see how it goes. I am not opposed to fairytale ends but it's a bit "meh" since I've been actively trying to get rid of them for a change.

We’re past the boob covering years, past the mid back abyss... I’m noticing that there’s quite a bit of bendy back in this length bracket. Like, it makes a lot of difference how I hold myself when feeling the ends to see where they come to, or trying to take a length shot. The slightest difference in posture affects where the ends fall to. Anyone else get that?

Welcome, AJ! Your hair is very pretty, I was amazed by the progress you showed in the growing out bleach and dye thread. Very inspiring.

Thank you, lapushka! :)
It's going well, thanks for asking! I've been busy with uni so I've largely just ignored my hair pretty much ever since it started. It would be going even better though if I wasn't shedding the life out of me at the moment! But I'm sure it will pass once it's run its course... in some months time.
I'm so sorry about the extra shedding! But it's great that the grow-out process is going well! :D

Thank you. I am trying to see the silver linings in it, too - at least now I'll have less bleached hair percentage-wise, and those new ones growing in will be strong (uncut) at the ends.

Today I ALMOST cut back from hip to waist/MBL....ALMOST
But I did NOT...and will not.
It looks and feels good and I still have a lot of styling options.
To go shorter means MORE WORK...curling and refreshing and searching for styles when some fail for lack of length.
My landmarks do mot equate to the normal length at that landmark because of my short and shrinking spine.
DO NOT FORGET THAT GG ~ it took a lot to get where you are

Awww thank you...that means a lot to me (((hugs)))
It is funny (not really) that when I mentioned it to my DH, he asked who I would have cut it :hmm:
I didn't push for his meaning behind the comment, but explained *I* would do it...IF I did .....and later when I said I was NOT cutting ....and he said NOTHING
Not that he has been very vocal this whole time....when I first thought about growing he was concerned about the length.
Then when I grew long I finally got a few compliments; only one was sought after by me.
I am alone in my long hair journey, aside from all you dear friends here at LHC that I am super grateful for :grouphug:
because in my world, no one really gives a :poop: about my hair!
And if by chance you don't like it :wigtongue too bad....I DO....and I am old enough to NOT care what YOU think :lala:
It does feel/look the best between Hip and TBL ......and there I shall stay.... until/unless my hand is forced to cut it....for some SERIOUS reason :agree:
I saw another LHC peep had cut back and for some reason (hair toy guilt? old age?) that got me thinking :scissors:
I suppose you just never know  lol
Thanks for the support ~ happy growing :flowers:

This is your happy place for length as far as I understood GG, but if for whatever reason you decided it would be better to go shorter, you'd have support. Just so long as you do it because it's what makes you happy either way, and not because of any sort of peer pressure or anything

Yes it has been my sweet spot......I can't go too long....and this week WL seemed too short long term
If I stay focused I can remain @ hip and be happy in all respects.
It could just be the result of this Summer's stressors...that are drifting into FALL :p
I think I will put off my monthly dustings too, and just stick with quarterly hemline maintenance....then I won't be as fixed on length every time the full moon rises along with my emotions
I appreciate your support when the old bird slips off her rocker a bit :flowers:

LOL thank you (((hugs))) I needed that little giggle today!
With hemline maintenance every 3 months...trimming no shorter than hip and growing back towards TBL will give me good, comfy, workable lengths

I think I'm TBL yet when stretched. I'll wait a bit to double check it, since it's sorta curly it's not too obvious... but I think I'm there at last!
Here's the last lenght pic I took, from october 1st aprox:

Here's my current length, between hip and BCL as indicated by the hands. The waves probably eat up a bit of length even though they are quite stretched out in this pic (heavy, damp hair).

Hey everyone, I’ve been quiet lately because I’ve been too tired to post much, but I’ve been lurking when I get a bit of signal and admiring everyone and cheering you all on.
My hair is pretty steady right now, I think we got over the super dry ends from dusty renovation work and the summer shedding seems to have stopped. I’m inching towards hip!
My trousers waistband is at about hip here in this photo,

Thank you :) I’m going to wait to call it when it *feels* there this time. For me, there seems to be quite a discrepancy between photo milestones and feeling milestones (I mean feeling it brush a finger at that length kind of a thing, not physically feeling the ends brush hip, which I suspect would be even longer).

Hey dear vpatt, honestly I haven’t trimmed my hair at all since more than two (? Really?) years ago when a friend cut more off than I wanted. Soon after joining here in October last year I did some s&d Sessions but stopped as I felt that most of the damage was further up than the ends and I didn’t want to go thinning it all out too much. Sometimes my ends feel fried, I even dreamt about them breaking into little pieces recently, but really they are prone to dryness and if I can keep that under control then all is well (I don’t want to ear my hair down apart from to swish it around for about 4 minutes anyway).

Lately I have been doing a Feyes and Under the Chin combo trim - see avatar result.
I do a ponytail under my chin-snip the tip; then ponytail in the back-snip the tip.
Then I part my hair down the middle, bring it to the front and do a small angle snip on each side to deepen the U.... |/ \|

It does look better dry, but I think wet hair is sort of less forgiving, so it shows the truth better.
