Hi! I would like to join this thread. I currently have waist length hair. It was pretty damaged at the ends and I went and took off about 3". My goal is tb but the more I look at classic length the more I want to be there. Hope everyone had a nice holiday and a safe new year.

Welcome, ccelaya! I started last year with a chop of damaged ends, and I remember being so impatient for growth too! But it’s so worth it in the end because you’re starting with much healthier hair!

I’m an inch away from BCL stretched... I’m just itching for another hair growth spurt! I don’t think it’ll hit until the warm weather returns, that’s when it was last year.

I am closing in to tbl and I'd like to know how other toys (hair elastics or so) help stabilising your bun. I have fine slippery (going more to 1c rather than 2a) but fairly thick 8.5 cm (3.34") ponytail circumference.

@megthehennahead I am really aiming for healthy hair. Although like you said I just really wish it could just be longer already. I live in a really hot area and it's hard on the health of my hair and I have to keep a good routine with it otherwise it just gets damaged easy.

Back to waist from hip :( , but now my hemline looks so much better, and my hair looks longer. Now just need to keep it healthy and I should be back at hip after summer. TBL maybe in 1-1,5 years. Then maintain there for a while and then towards my ultimate goal classic :pray: I know I can have it, even thou everyone tells me my hair is too fine, too soft and I just should cut it to long bob :(

I'm still a couple inches unstretched from BCL, but I'm finding that I've been doing this lately although my hair isn't technically in the "danger zone" yet :p I usually wear my hair up, and it suddenly feels much longer when I've worn it down to the washroom the last couple weeks.

Well my hair is always up when I use the bathroom, but if it happens to be down I do put it over my shoulder. I am hip+, almost bcl. I would say bcl to mid tailbone would be the danger zone.

Every hair that breaks off makes me so sad im losing length even just by a few centimeters I want to see how long I get get by june

Synester, don't give up. It took me 5 years already to get from just past APL to BCL because I had to trim off a total of probably a foot in that amount of time. You can do this. Hugs!

Are you past waist at 20 inches? Or maybe you haven't updated your info. I'm just wondering cuz I'm at 30.5 inches and it doesn't even look like waist unless it's stretched. If you say yes then I'm so jealous, lol.

I am half an inch shy of tailbone but I won't call it for at least another inch or more due to my ends being V-shaped.. feels like it's taking forever to get to TBL with the bulk of my hair :(

Oh, yeah, I guess I did! I just now trimmed 1/3" (a centimeter?) so I'm just above BCL but that will grow out in a couple of weeks. On to tailbone if I can deal with it!

I'm a cm past tbl, but I won't be graduating from this thread for a while as I plan on cutting 3 inches/7-8 cm late March. So I'll be hanging around here for another year or so.

I've been contemplating on cutting my hair quite a bit shorter for a while (waist, or even shorter), because I've not been enjoying my hair at all... but turnes out I just missed wearing it down. So lately, I've been wearing my hair down a lot more (instead of in a braid) and I love it! For me, it's worth the extra damage, and it feels nice not worrying that much about damaging my hair. I feel happy about my hair again, which is great. So I will only be cutting the velcro, worn out ends, keeping as much length as possible. Yay! :)

Gorgeous hair everyone! Im back! I've been stuck at waist-ish forever! Doesn't help that my hairdresser cut 3+" off for a "trim" last summer... Argh. Finally back to waist+ now at 31"!! I must have a long torso man... I'm only 5'2"!!!

I reached tailbone! Finally, was just about there and then started postpartum shedding and it seemed my hair wasn't growing at all (I lost about 1/4" circumference) so I ignored it for a while. Don't pay attention to the pockets on the pants, these jeans fit funnily.

Hey loves! I think I belong on this thread, because I had a fun discovery this morning! I was doing a visual check on my hair length this morning. I had in my mind that it’s waist length, because its jut below belly button length. Lo and behold, my waist (smallest part of torso) is where my thumb is in the first picture. I thought hip length meant where the bump is about halfway down my hip. I find out from another LHC post that hip length actually starts where the top of your hipbone is, which is where my thumb is in the second picture. I think my hair is pretty solidly (especially when stretched) at hip length, and that makes me really happy!!! I can’t wait to grow to tailbone!!!

I loosen my curls as much as I can to reduce tangling and shrinkage, but they're still pretty rebellious. My thumb indicates HL in pix with the orange shirt, but it's hard to tell since my ends decided to spread out and frizz after I started taking pix. Racers are BCL when stretched.

I haven't been active on here in the last few years but I thought I'd check in for fun. I haven't really gained any length since then but my hair is the healthiest it's ever felt, and I'm even pretty happy with my hemline.

Right now my hair is past waist but I don't think it's quite at hip when dry. (It's solidly at hip when wet.) My goal length is tail bone when dry. I'd love to reach classic but I don't think my fine, easily damaged hair is necessarily up for that much.

I took this length pic last night, so the lighting isn't the best. My thumbs are at waist and the waistband of the pants are around tbl. (I know the left side is thinner than the rest. It's always been like that--I don't know why)

I kind of bypassed this thread because my tail bone and hip are close together.

Hip, bcl and tbl can all be pretty close depending on anatomy and what you considre to be tbl (top or bottom of tailbone).

Personally, I go by the bottom of the tailbone, which corresponds to about mid butt length (http://www.evolutionevidence.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/coccyx.jpg). :p That means I have about 2-3 inches between the three milestones, and I like milestones - they make the process a bit more interesting :)


My hair is a bit past tbl (mid butt) now, but since I'm cutting my hair in a couple of weeks I'll be staying in this thread for another year. I will probably be cutting at least 2-3 inches, which will put me somewhere between hip and bcl. Again... and I will nost likely stay here another year after that as well, cause of the ***%÷*+ bleach damage... :p

I have 1-1 1/2 inches to go unstretched, and I plan to trim 1/2" at the beginning of April. Maybe it's just me, but I'm finding BCL to be sort of difficult to determine. Yes! Thx Jas! I discovered we have super hard water and high chlorine! Apparently that was destroying my hair. I’m usibg ACV rinse and we just had a water softener installed. Super excited! can’t wait to get to bcl!

I was wondering when you call TBL- I may have asked before or someone else has, but I cannot find the answer here yet. Is it the place where the tailbone curves inwards between your buttcheeks? Like, halfway down the butt? Haha thanks for answering in advance anyway.

My hair is just centimeters away from the top of my butt btw. I've been stalling at waist/hip for quite some time. Uneven growth, some beakage and eventually a healthy good trim that took me back from hip with the longest whispies brushing the bum when stretched to solid hip. By now it's grown a bit more, my trim was a month ago and this is me now:

I have been absent from the forum for 1.5 years and with benign neglect and a little coconut oil I somehow passed waist without paying much attention. So now I can finally add myself to this thread *proud*. Over the last two years I've had issues with my thyroid and been shedding a lot. As a consequence my ends are getting quite thin at this length. I'll mainly be working on thickening my hemline and if I can gain an inch despite some trimming in the next year that is a plus, but not a priority. I guestimate I have about 3-4 more inches left to tailbone, meaning I will probably be in this thread for a while *settles in*

The tailbone marker is debatable I found. It really depends on the person and when they want to call it. Some call bcl tailbone while others like myself call tailbone at midbutt. So right in the middle of bcl and classic.

These 2 pics are from the end of February, so about 2 months ago my hair had been in a bun, that’s sadly not my real wave pattern. Haha And in the 2nd pic you can see the sectoral heterochromia of my left eye that I had mentioned in the thread about our parents’ hair colour compared to ours.

Im keeping tabs on my length by measuring now. I think its loads easier to tell if the hair is growing by doing that.
I can hardly tell in photos! I personally felt like I was and am still hovering at waist. TBH.
I feel like its common to feel like you're "stuck at waist" for awhile until you start to visually really hit hip or classic length/butt crack length lol
Like I call myself waist even though technically I am hip, I think, but its because i still feel like im waist. if that makes sense.

I haven't posted a lot in a long time. I do, however, stop in to read and look at the beautiful long hairs. I have been neglecting my hair and wearing it in a cinnabun for the last nearly 2 years because of my job. I am just at butt crack and nearing tailbone here very soon. I don't have a specific goal length in mind... I just know that I want it long. I'd be happy with classic a nd if it grew longer, I'd be happier. LOL.

I've been quite upset with my hair lately. The ends look like cotton balls, the taper is insane, and it just doesn't feel like it's growing.

I took a couple of photos of it, just to see things better. The taper is visible when my hair is wet, and not so much when my hair is dry, I think due to fluffy and wavy texture.

Overall photos made me feel a bit better about my hair. I finally saw that it IS growing, I can confidently call it hip length, even though not all of my hair has reached hip yet. The taper is bearable. I'll henna my hair in the beginning of May, it always improves my hair quite drastically. Also, I'll do more coconut milk treatments, my hair seemed to love it a lot.

I'm due to a S&D session and a tiny 1cm trim in the end of May/beginning of June. I wanted to go without trims till December, but I don't think I can do it. I can't stand fairytale ends on myself, I need to keep my hemline somewhat blunt, so for now I'm sticking to the schedule I created last Autumn: trimming 1 - 1,5 cm every three months (May/June - August/September, December). If I reach my first goal length before December, I'll start trimming off whatever grows past it. My goal for now is bellybutton. I trim my hair with the hairtie under the chin method, so it's all one length when flipped to the front. When it all reaches my bellybutton in the front, it should be around BCL length in the back. I don't know if I'm explaining it clearly enough :D anyway, I have about 9-10 cm to go before I reach my temporary goal, when I reach it I'll be cutting off more hair every 3 months in hopes of getting rid of the taper. Fingers crossed I'm not gonna have a meltdown and chop everything off back to BSL/APL.

My hair is hip length right now, but im going to cut off an inch or 2 i think today. luckily it grows fast. the 6 inches of damage is driving me nuts. Just cassia'd my hair yesterday. Wish i knew how it it covers grey long ago. my hair is poker straight these are bun waves.

update, hairdresser only cut off 1/2 inch. She raved about how healthy and awesome my hair was lol! I was like no my hair is uber damaged about the last 6 or so inches. But everyone's hair in that place was either super fried or super short lol. i wouldnt let her comb it or use heat lol. She was surprised how much i knew about hair. (rolleyes) she was awesome though, did what i asked. This is post olaplex and the trim and yestersays Sanarae cassia from nightblooming roots only. its still drying so its a bit frizzy. My hair is like frizzy after a wash. I may make tailbone by christmas after all...

Yeah I feel like it is for me, too. I'm around bcl, but seem to always be "around" it. Definitely feels like my growth rate slowed down a lot from before - bsl to hip seemed to zoom by comparatively. Maybe I have a long upper butt? :silly:

I posted in the other thread last time, but figured I'd better come here, since my goal (for now) is actually classic. Picture angles and hair don't agree, so I'm reasonably certain I haven't really reached hip yet, even if it kind of looks that way in the picture. I have to talk with my photographer about angles and how much of me I want in the picture (please ignore the mess).

I have some mild bun waves and haven't trimmed in five months, but the ends don't look too bad yet.

Your hair doesn't look like it is in desperate need of a chop. I would first try to figure out what might be causing that side to become thin. It is damaged, broken, possibly growing slower than the rest? Maybe it just needs some extra care, and you can always trim to have it catch up instead of loosing length.

Thanks Moonrabbit and Aunt Rapuzel - I might have it trimmed a little over the next few months and see if the straggly bits will catch up.
I sleep with it in a cap, I bun it for work. I'm being more gentle when I brush. It may have been older damage. I do use a hairdryer and I caught a small section (about 0.5cm) in the fan when the back cover came off once. I believe that was a section right at the side near my face.

I think we share a problem here, Lisa Long4Life. I think my sides are thinning because they keep getting caught under the strap of my bag, no matter how hard I try to protect them. Even when in a ponytail my hair has the ability to just get about everywhere. :rolleyes:

And I'm the same, I KNOW my hair is hiplenght, but when I look at myself in a mirror sideways I feel like it's not even past BSL. :p

I usually don't measure milestones until I am close to one. But I was curious about them so I had my partner measure each one. I am currently 35 inches Bcl+.

Tbl- 36 inches
CL- 39 ( though I will call it at an even 40)
Ftl- 43.5 inches
Knee-48 inches
Ankle-63 inches

Considering that I started in September 2015 at 16 inches (non lhc measuring) I have grown 19 inches since. I only had a few dustings and one 1in trim in that time. Ankle seems so far away...that is if I can even grow that long :confused: For now I will just enjoy the process and be grateful for what I can achieve.

Then again, why even cut if I'm not wearing it down... however, my hair is getting so long that I can't remove tangles at the ends using only one arm, and that's a bit annoying... and cutting it will make the braid tassle look healthier as well, but the braid won't be (almost) tbl anymore... aaah, what to doo...

I don't cut my own hair (1a hair makes it difficult, since it will be very apparent if the cut isn't even, and I have a natural U shape, where the sides are quite a lot shorter, so I can't cut straight across). Going to a hair dresser is expensive here (about $75-90 for a regular cut...), so I usually only go once a year... I guess I feel that it's a waist of money just cutting 1 inch at the hair dresser... :p

Ahh maybe that’s why I have a hard time self trimming. My sides grow slower than the back so I’m always terminally a deep v. I also get mad at myself if I cut more than 1/2 inch off. Your hair is really pretty, your one of my goal hairs I look too.

Admittedly the anatomy confuses me around this area. I'm maybe 1" from the top of the tushy and if I sit down, I'm probably 2-3" from it touching the couch. Idk where my tailbone is.

TBL depends lots on the person. To me it's just 2" over classic... Others have it way higher. I just can "feel" it by touching the bone :p (lol at the idea of us all touching our tailbone to find it :lol:)

For me it's right at the part where the butt cheeks start separating, so I have another long way to go, too. The best way to find out really is to look for the bone and yes, I'm imagining everyone touching their butts now :whistle:

This is why I added sacrum as a mark in my timeline in my signature because the way from hip to tailbone is even longer than from waist to hip for me and I wanted to be able to mark something in between. :smirk:

The end of the tailbone is approximately mid-butt length. It can be hard to locate the actual tip, as the tailbone is tilted inwards...you have to really dig in there... The start of the tailbone is a bit higher up, but not that much.

I refer to the tip or end of the tailbone as tbl hair, this is approximately halfway between bcl and classic - perfect. :)

To me that looks like bcl, tailbone length is about mid butt, at least when it comes to anatomy. I know some people refer to bcl as tbl, but the bump that can be felt at around the but crack isn't the tailbone, but the sacrum.

Ahh maybe that’s why I have a hard time self trimming. My sides grow slower than the back so I’m always terminally a deep v. I also get mad at myself if I cut more than 1/2 inch off. Your hair is really pretty, your one of my goal hairs I look too.

Good to know I'm not the only one! The hair on the sides is also even finer than the rest, so I suspect it's more prone to damage as well.

Your welcome! Yep that’s exactly what my hair is like. mine likes to stay in a deep v, which is one of the problems I have with hair dressers is they try to make it straight accross unless I micromanage them.

It's the same for me, my sides are alwayse damaged and thin. My middle strand seems to grow faster, too. I kind of embraced that structure, I personally think a mixture of an U and V hemline suits me best, anyway. But sometimes it's frustrating, my side strands always look thin.

I'm like one inch from butt crack.
I'm assuming (snicker) my tailbone is 1-2" below that but I cannot feel it with my hand. I know it's in there because it gave me pain for a long while after my son was born!

Ahh, that's how my hair is too! I have a V-shaped hemline because I'm still growing out my layers. The longest layer almost touches my butt in the back, but my shortest bits seem to barely be at waist in the front, soo frustrating. I was going to even up my hemline this summer, but I can't give up the length now hehe. & Don't feel bad, I'm super short too! I'm only 5"1'.

I am currently brushing hip with a U hemline. When the top of the U reaches hip, I plan to :scissors: about 2 inches to thicken my hemline and hopefully get rid of a lot of the taper. Then I'll be on my way to TB!! :cheese:
I think I'm about the same. Have reached hip with a U/V shape, and when the rest of it catches up, I'll take off a couple of inches, and probably maintain for awhile or whatever - I'll leave that up to my hair lol

Less than an inch away from tailbone. I have decided to maintain at tailbone for a few months. I haven't had a proper trim in 3 years and I really need to work on getting my ends in better condition. I have so many splits and they snag together constantly. All I want right now it to be able to run my fingers in my hair with ease.
