Today is one year from my last trim where I went for an inch and the lady cut off a crooked 2" that had to be fixed ultimately losing 4". I swore off trims then, knowing I couldn't forever. FTE's are ok, but I always get compliments on my blunt hemline with my hairlength. My hair always feels better after a trim but is harder to get into buns because the ends want to pop out.
I, too, plan to wait til TBL to trim. But as of now I have no plans to go past TBL. I am going to maintain here awhile until I am happy with the health of my ends. I am not sure I will ever be able to stand hair past TBL. It gets in my way so much now, I need to learn to really live with TBL hair before I move on.This stage is the first time I have encountered this issue. I will be in this thread probably another year.
I am with Myotis and Medeival on losing the war with splits and it being harder not to trim between hip and TBL. BUT, I am happy just to be hip, which was my original goal. I never had splits until I hit around hip length.
dfotw I have not tried monistat or MTG or anything else applied topically for hair growth. I have taken many vitamins and supplements and discovered some great ones for OTHER things. But nothing has made my hair growth speed up (I get about 8" a year at the roots). I still take MSG, Flaxseed Oil, DE and a multi-vite for general health reasons. I have made some major dietary changes for my overall health and have lost 20+ pounds. I think I am as halthy as I can be, I eat healthy and get my vitamins naturally so there is nothing I can take or do that is better, kwim? I am only 3 lbs away from my ideal weight, having lost another 2 lbs in the last couple weeks.
Ultimately, I am patient and do not mind 8" a year or the actual 6" it turns out to be from breakage/loss, which is really only 4" when you account for trims because I cannot stand unhealthy ends. I have gone much longer than a year between trims before, but only between BSL and waist, which goes very quickly, then waist to hip which also really went quickly. I have pictures from 2008 where my hair is BARELY covering my breasts in front. It has really just been since hip that I have had all the trouble. Sometimes I feel TBL is term for me anyway bt I have NEVER had my hair to hip or past 35" before this year.
Wow, I sure can ramble about my hair, but then, this is the only thread I post in really and I certainly do not discuss the issues IRL!
ETA: Forgot to say I am TBL wet! Yippee!!

WaitingSoLong - I can understand your frustration with trimming appearing to set you back - but if you accept you may lose 2" to breakage anyway, why not invest them into trimming? :) This way you'll grow it out to TBL and have it healthier than if you just keep not-trimming.
I'm taking the trimming path - after seeing progress picture of an LHC member. She grown out from SL to Hip+ length, and at one point she decided to stop trimming to achieve more length. She barely grew out at all, and in the same time span, after returning to regular trims, she had an amazing progress.
I was stalling on 37"ish for quite a few months (BCL on me), after deciding not to trim until I reach TBL. After another frustration monthly measuring, I decided to trim, and look at me now - 39" and TBL. Just my :twocents:

I have finally reached tailbone length. It took me such a long time. My trim is due in 3 months, so hopefully i will maintain my TBL after i trim. I don't feel i have reached TBL though, because my hair curls up to hip or waist and sometimes even to ShL, so frustrating!!!

I love blunt ends (^(oo)^)v but dealing with the ends popping out of buns is worst! I've just given up at this point; I just let them pop out now and act like that's the way I wanted it to look :D

I've been growing to TBL and then cutting back to waist or hip length for my entire life for this very reason :p it's only a few additional inches but it just seems to take on a life of its own at TBL, doesn't it? I was kneeling down to get something out from under a table, when suddenly I realized I was kneeling on my own hair

I'm not trimming again until the start of September. I am trimming .5" every month (my hair grows slightly faster than that from what I can tell so far) to even out the V hemlime (which is closer to a U right now) and still gain a little bit of lenght.
It will be awhile until I get to TB but my hair isn't my number one focus right now anyways :)

Oh my gosh I am STILL only like 1.5 inches from tailbone. It feels like I have been here forever. I can't wait to reach it so I can start to trim to thicken up my hemline!

I guess I should join this thread. I'm definitely in the hip area, my loose hair is a bit past the top of my hipster jeans. I've started trimming monthly though. I have a ridiculous number of spit ends and I think I might be able to thicken the hemline, reduce breakage and therefore increase growth if I keep ahead of the damage.
I'm aiming for terminal length and I hope that's a long way off!

I am so frustrated at the moment. My hair doesn't seem to grow and I lost my FTE in July, when I went to the hair dresser (stupid me) to get 2-3cm trimmed. 5,5cm were cut. :(
And since then I am not seeing any improvement. I am still around hip length, but it feels so short again.
I was just starting to get the long-hair-feeling.

I feel for you Camee. I have a bajillion split ends. I can't bear not to gain length, so I'm going to trim every two months rather than monthly. I'm thinking I should ramp-up my S&D efforts, too. I would love some way to measure empirically whether I'm getting less splits, but I don't know how. Maybe I should have scheduled S&D missions, and record how many I cut off, but the problem is that I normally stop because I'm bored, not because they're all gone!

The last couple of months (since I read a good descriptions of the process somewhere on LHC) I have been doing S&D missions. They are not at all regular, but OTOH it is not hard to have a pair of scissors lying next to the PC, and I will often have a little session when I am surfing the web.
The first times I did it, many split ends fell to the dreaded scissors. :scissors: ;) But lately there have been far fewer split ends for me to destroy. So I suppose my old regimen of "benign neglect" wasn't so bad after all. In addition, it is good to see that something is working. :)

I'm in this range, too.
My hair is TBL - some days. Other days, a bit shorter. Always a couple of inches below hip, though. (I'm trimming to get rid of dry/rough ends, so the length bounces around...)
I like the current length and look the best so far -- finally, I feel I have long hair.
However, it really snarls -- both when washed, and when left loose. I'm hoping with more trims, that may improve... The other possibility is that my fine wanna-be-dreaded hair will always snarl when set free.
Anyway, I plan to gradually get rid of perhaps two? three? more inches at the bottom before going on to classic. But who knows? Benign neglect may take over again; I may stop trimming; it may grow...

I am considering it. It takes me a couple of months to get up the nerve to even walk into a salon once I have decided to do it. I have had too many bad cuts. However, I am going to a new place to a recommended stylist next time. I never cut more than once a year ever. That has always been enough to keep my splits off before until this year. Since I have just now hit the one year mark, I am due but not in a rush. Honestly, I am so busy right now that, while I am irritated with my hair, I don't really think about it except when I am on LHC and when I wash my hair. I will end up procrastinating a cut until December or January anyway. I just hate being so close to goal and trimming it away. Another reason I am hesitant about the cut is the bunning issue. Ah well. It IS just hair....right?

Ha ha ha.....Mmmmm Cookies and Cheese!
I have large hips so I figure it's not too far from waist and it was easier to be consistant with the photos if I had my hands sitting at the top of my hip bone. So yes....I'm technically at Top of Hip, but Hip to me is where my pants fall so alittle higher than Low-Rise and I'll be at hip (in my mind).

Ah! Finally found my scissors and began S&Din in earnest since my move. Woke up today, a day after a wash, and having a good hair day, but my hair looks like it is barely at hip right now! It's the braid waves, but it was kind of crushing to see that in the mirror this morning, especially since I am definitely going to trim at least an inch off (maybe 2) very soon.

I will not be leaving this thread yet after all. I went to get a trim today at a salon and I am now back hovering 2 cm above BCL. My ends look great though! :D I was happy to hear the haidresser saying my hair is healthy and smooth! But she did blowdry it some, using that tecnique where you hold the dryer a cm from the hair and go down the lenght with the dryer and a brush. I totally froze and was unable to stop her! The cut looks very good though, so all in all not so bad. :)
It cost me the equivalent of several delicious hairtoys!

I always feel like a freak when I go to the salon. It is difficult to know in advance what is going to happen. Many dangers lurke; blowdryers, heat straighteners, sls/silicones + + (she put some silicone on today to make it easier to comb. I figured rather have cones than her ripping my hair off!), brushes with the balls on each tine, damaging clips, and worst of all a stylist who doesn´t understand or respect your choice to have long hair.
So what can you do? Bring your own combs and brushes? Bring a list of 10 (or 20?) commandments what not to do to hair? A friend to stand behind and hawkeye the work? I´m sure they would kick me out or something!
I´m glad it went relatively easy today, and the result was ok. I will need some light therapy though to get over the ordeal.

Hello....I am joining the club. I was really close to hip length a few weeks ago but I got a trim that ended up taking 4 inches off. So here I am back at waist. Since joining LHC, I have gained at least an inch in growth already.Taking super special care of my hair and taking supplements are really paying off. :cheese:
My mom cuts my hair now but when I went to a salon, I never let them wash my hair. I washed it before I went and told them I wanted no blowdrying or product in my hair. They never seemed to have a problem with it. Actually, they did not charge me full price as they did not have to wash or style my hair. :)

Thank you Heidi! :)
I refused to have my hair washed, so she wet it down in the sink instead. After she was through cutting it wet, she blowdryed it, and then I had to stand up (salon chair was too low on the highest setting :D) and she did tiny adjustments to the ends and found hairs she had missed. I thought that was really good, I just didn´t like the blowdrying part. I told her she did not have to dry it on account of me, but she had a purpose... Well, if she could have just held the dryer longer away from my hair it would not have been so bad. I swear my face was positively plum coloured with stress during this procedure. The other thing was her clips. She twisted sections of hair and put them on top of my head with som clips that obviously had small metal tines. I could actually hear hairs break a couple of times.
Yesteday I bought three new glass hairsticks to console myself! :o Now I feel guilty and stupid. Stupid that I am such a wuss and guilty that I spent too much money on toys this week.

Can you give me more information? Is this only on wet hair? Seems like everything I have heard about brushing ruining hair was on wet hair. I only use comb on wet hair. What kind of brush is good for detangling then? Or only combs? I have been using a ball-tip paddle brush recommended to me and it detangles marvelously. I have tried using a comb for detangling, it works but I lose just as much hair no matter how gentle/slow/patient I am. I must be doing something wrong.

You have to start at the bottom / ends and detangle up towards your scalp - don't try to detangle from the roots, otherwise, you'll just be pushing all of the knots down together at the ends. Then if you try to pull the brush thru that's when you end up ripping out hairs

Your hair looks very healthy and beautiful, so maybe the ball-tip paddle brush is fine for you? I know there are different qualities.
I shed hairs no matter which brush/comb I use, but the ball tip brush used to take out a whole lot more. (It was also recommended to me by a hairdresser.) I never comb or brush when my hair is wet, just some light detangling with my hands. When hair is dry, or almost dry, I start with a large widetooth comb. Then I use a less wide spaced comb, and then another even lesser spaced and so on till I can use a fine tooth comb.. I do have a Tangle Teezer and a Mason Pearson BBB. The last one I never use for detangling, but the Tangle Teezer I use sometimes. Although on freshly washed hair I always start with the combs. I´m sure there are many other ways and preferences. :)

Speaking of shed hairs.. I have noticed I shed much less hair lately. Really ever since shortly after I joined LHC. I wonder why this is? :S

I've noticed my shedding has decreased as well. Maybe it is because I moved home for the summer so there is less stress and I'm getting healthier food. Or just maybe it's positive thinking (I'd be willing to believe this helped a lot... the placebo effect of LHC).

I was just wondering - How much is waist lenght and how much would you estimate TBL is on you ladies (and gentlemen)?
I'm not much taller than everybody else but it seems like my measurements are always bigger than everybody else's. Waist is about 32" and TBL would be a little more than 39". Is this just a feeling?

Waist on me is 28" and BCL is 35.4". I can´t feel the tip of my tailbone so I don´t really know where that would be. I have put my goal to be 39,4 (100 cm) because at 39.8" (101 cm) my hair will touch the seat when I am sitting. (In my head I call that seat lenght)
When I look at the pics from the Euromeet I get this urge to go classic though. :)
I am 173 cm tall by the way (which would be 5.67 according to the online calculator)

I suspect it also has something to do with body proportions - the only time I appreciate my bizarrely short torso is when it comes to growing hair (^(oo)^)v If your torso is pretty long and you're always searching for shirts that are long enough, then that's probably the reason . . .
my waist is at 28", hip at 30" and TBL at 34.5" . . .so my gap is about the same as yours, but everything's shifted shorter, b/c i'm a very small piggy :p

Well, I think I am going to get that trim sooner instead of later. I had MANY reasons to wait...
1. I wear my hair up incessantly during summer because of heat/working outside. When I get a trim, I cannot hardly keep it in a bun because of the ends.
2. I fear salons/bad trims/excess loss of length
3. I was waiting to reach goal before trimming (December)
4. I was measuring my hair for a year as a basis for recording. I am close, only need to wait til December.
5. I had finally reached "the longest my hair has ever been" and a trim would set me back. Of course, now any length is the longest my hair has ever been. 36" seemed to take FOREVER to reach, I am only like 2" from TB.
6. My hair looks so good in pictures, maybe I should just stop looking at it up close? lol I love how it looks right now
My reasons NOT to wait:
1. My breakage is phenominal and I know my root growth is almost double that of my overall growth, so ultimately, I SHOULD be gaining with a trim, right?
2. My hair has actually reached a length I find unwieldly.
3. My ends are crunchy, hair health is more important than length (?)
I haven't totally talked myself into the trim yet but I think I will stop by and talk to the lady, have her look at my ends and give me her professional opinion. The best I can tell myself, I need 2" off. The main reason ( I think I am repeating myself) is bunning. I HAVE to bun and I HATE stray ends.
If I trim, that means I gain nothing for the last year because of my 4" trim last August. Wahhh!!! I want to have gained SOMEthing by the end of 2010!
I am super discouraged about shedding. I am very careful not to pull it hard, etc. I am healthiest I have ever been holistically speaking, my diet could not really be better, I have lost 25 pounds and feel great. I wonder if my dietary changes are somehow to blame for the shedding, like it is purging or something. 36" takes a long time to grow back! I hate to say it, but my hair was doing better before LHC. However, it was never this long before LHC either.

For me, pre-measurement guesses are usually wrong because my hair wurls away and I can't get it to lie down to be measured... And, with visual measurements, I prefer to wait until they are somewhat visible to claim them! (Luckily for me, most of my curl drops out by day three or four, so that is possible, unlike the situation for true curlier curlies! The benefits, I guess, of fickle hair.)
Again, for me waist was about 29", hip about 32"; tbl will be about 36" or a bit more -- this measure is more iffy than the others for me!
In any case, to get back to more concrete measurements, on me, classic should be about 42" -- at least that's the measurement with the tape measure pulled sort of straight -- but hardly dead straight. (Tight, the tape measure says it would be at 40" for me, but I doubt my hair will agree! More likely, I won't think I'm there till I reach 46" or 49", if I am to be so lucky.)
After classic, if my hair cooperates, the increments on me are shorter than for many... yes, my torso is short -- but I have really short legs! It surprises me that I look somewhat normal proportioned in real life, esp. after spending so much time reading other people's measurements on LHC!
And I have the same issue as you, Heidi_234, when it comes to hair that will not look its length because of its personality!
(For the record, right now, post-mini-trims, I'm at 34.5, so I would like to regain and keep two inches before I claim a solid tbl. ... and my sig pic, as of Aug 10 is a somewhat deceptive Oct. 2009 shot, so my hair is a wee bit longer than it might appear here... and this was taken on a "straight" day for me.)

My reasons NOT to wait:
1. My breakage is phenominal and I know my root growth is almost double that of my overall growth, so ultimately, I SHOULD be gaining with a trim, right? It's sort of inevitable that as your hair gets longer, you're going to encounter more breakage than you did before, I think. Do you actually have splits? If not, I'm not clear on how trimming would affect the breakage situation?
2. My hair has actually reached a length I find unwieldly.
3. My ends are crunchy, hair health is more important than length (?) Have you tried some moisture treatments?
I haven't totally talked myself into the trim yet but I think I will stop by and talk to the lady, have her look at my ends and give me her professional opinion. Every hairdresser I know is of the perpetual "professional opinïon" that people need more haircuts :p The best I can tell myself, I need 2" off. That is a lot for a "trim" - 2" is getting into the zone of a "cut" in my opinion! What is it about your ends that makes you feel you need 2" off? The main reason ( I think I am repeating myself) is bunning. I HAVE to bun and I HATE stray ends.

I lost 30+ pounds a few years back and my hair did thin out quite a bit - I think with that scale of weight loss it's inevitable. However, also remember that it may seem like you are shedding more just b/c the hairs are longer now and it looks like more volume while still being the same number of strands. 36" takes a long time to grow back! I hate to say it, but my hair was doing better before LHC. However, it was never this long before LHC either.

Hmm, it is tricky to reply to this because I am quoting a quote...hope you can figure this out
In response to a few of your points:
2. I fear salons/bad trims/excess loss of length Have you considered trimming yourself instead of going to a salon? (^(oo)^)3. Yes, I have tried that before to much disaster. I had my Mom try, too, to much disaster.
If not, I'm not clear on how trimming would affect the breakage situation?2. OH YES I have splits up to 2", thus my reason for 2".
3. My ends are crunchy, hair health is more important than length (?) Have you tried some moisture treatments? Yes, actually, my hair is not dry. Just the splits. I do DCT's and oil.
I haven't totally talked myself into the trim yet but I think I will stop by and talk to the lady, have her look at my ends and give me her professional opinion. Every hairdresser I know is of the perpetual "professional opinïon" that people need more haircuts Well, that is where this particular stylist comes in. I have talked to some of her clients and they all says she never cuts more than necessary and seems to be in favor of long hair. Tho I have not met her yet. .
If I trim, that means I gain nothing for the last year because of my 4" trim last August. this one, definitely not a trim! eep! (>(oo)<) Wahhh!!! I have explained this before but who knows on what forum. The trim was supposed to be 1" with a slight "U". The lady butchered it and took of 2" and only "U'd" one side. I went back the next day to have it fixed (the other stylist was appalled) and ended up losing a total of 4" to fix the butchering the other lady did. I swore off trims then AND that salon. Really, it was traumatic for me. I was so livid and I actually cried for several days. I know, dumb. It is just hair, right?
I am super discouraged about shedding. I am very careful not to pull it hard, etc. I am healthiest I have ever been holistically speaking, my diet could not really be better, I have lost 25 pounds and feel great. However, also remember that it may seem like you are shedding more just b/c the hairs are longer now and it looks like more volume while still being the same number of strands. Really? Weight loss can cause hair loss? I figured since it has been gradual (Since January) it would not really matter. I mean, I am losing weight the RIGHT way, not with pills, etc. And yes, I know it can look like a lot because of length. I have stopped just short of picking out the hair and counting them. Yet regardless, I have seen an increase. I have cut most fats out of my diet, I wonder if fat was actually good for my hair? That being said, I do take Omega 3 supplements. Also, I have been warned not to totally cut out fats as it can be bad to do so.

I don't know, I just find it amusing that two longhairs both are facing trepidation about cuts, but both need them for the same reasons, and both of these people joined TLHC at about the same time, and have about the same length of hair. I just think it is funny to have an odd connection of cutting at the same time as someone I've never met in real life.

Where do you live myotis? We COULD meet...JUST KIDDING.
I did not know there was a word haircut-aphobia! I should have known. Do you think, if I learned how to pronounce it and spouted it off to the stylist she would know what it means?
So I did go by the salon today. The stylist I wanted to see was not there. She has weird hours. Anyway, my appointment is for Sept. 3rd, a Friday morning. I was ambivalent about making it without meeting her. Guess I will take the chance, and if I get there and she rubs me the wrong way I will just leave! How rude would that be? lol

I'm about 2" taller than you, so it just makes my torso somewhat longer. I also completely forgot that some people tend to refer to BCL as TBL, while I prefer to mark TBL as halfway between BCL and classic. Maybe that's why it seemed to me like my TBL measurement is too big. Funny thing is, classic would be around 42" for me too (pulled straight).
Don't you stretch your hair when measuring it? I'm confused. I feel like measuring it 'as it is' is very unreliable, because there's 4" worth of shrinkage, and my "actual" hair length can fall anywhere in that range. I assumed the measuring tape is suppose to lie just like wet/stretched hair would do, and therefore measuring by the tape can predict how long your hair will be in it's stretched state when you reach this or that length goal.
That said, you have a very good point about giving a little bit of extra length to what the tape says your hair will be at future goal length. I actually did it without intending to, when I rounded *up* my goal length. Also, I'm with you - I tend not to claim milestones until I'm solidly there, which would make it at least an inch past the milestone.
And I'll say it again :o - always admired your beautiful mane! :flowers:

I've been pretty much braiding and ignoring my hair lately, especially after moving to a hard-water area, I've been washing a lot less to try to avoid getting the hard water build-up. I hate the way my hair feels right after a wash now. Bu the advantage is, my hair is growing and surprising me! Thank you! I'm measuring tailbone by where my actual tailbone ends, and that's a few inches lower. My ultimate goal that this point is knee, but we'll see how changes once I get to classic. I might decide that the whole sitting on my hair this is overrated. I really want to see if I can get there though!

I read that thread, and was curious about it. I've been thinking about trying it, just not sure how to collect the rainwater. We're getting almost nightly thunderstorms here, but the rain is usually accompanied by really high winds so I can't just set a bucket outside. Maybe I can bungee it to the porch...

MYOTIS...I have decided to change how much I am getting trimmed. Well, I am going to ask her what she thinks NEEDS to be trimmed. If t is more than 2", I will say NO, just 2", but if it is less, I will go with less. Once I went in for a trim and told her she could take as much off up to 3", but she said it only needed about an inch. I am not even sure she took that much off and I left feeling like I didn't lose anything but still got a trim. That is what I am hoping for this time.
Ok, because I am scared about a trim, can anyone tell me how to tactfully STOP a stylist if I feel they are going to ruin my hair? Like if they don't get on eye level with my ends or something like that? I am afraid I am going to come off as a snob or rude because I am protective of my hair! And while you're thinking of a reply, keep in mind I come off a bit brash in general, even when I try not to! This is my first trim since The Disaster of August 2009.

I've found that it's best to be upfront and explain your concerns before the cut starts. For example, when you first get in there, before you even sit down, I would very nicely say something like "sorry if I seem a bit nervous, I just had a very bad experience at my last trim." At which point she'll probably ask why, which is your cue to explain your concerns, and how you'd really appreciate it a lot if she could err on the side of cutting too little, etc. etc.
If you say it all before you even get in the chair, she'll (a) be paying more attention instead of half-listening while cutting, and (b) be less likely to feel insulted or like you're "correcting" her mid-cut. Positioning it as your issue also makes her less likely to feel defensive, and for some people who are more competitive, it will actually make them even more careful, to prove to you that they're much better than the other hairdresser you went to (^(oo)^)v
At the end of the day, remember, you're paying them. You have a right to ask for what you want!

WaitingSoLong, I think if I was ever to go back to a salon again (which I'm not planning on doing; I trim my own hair now) I would write out a contract and have the stylist sign it. Something like this: "I understand I have been asked to only cut off X inches and I agree to do this. I understand that if I cut any more off, I will not receive payment and legal action may be taken against me for failing to carry out the agreed service."
Of course, this is very extreme and it's possible they would think I was a psycho and refuse to sign it, or start rolling their eyes and whispering and laughing with their colleagues, but that is how much my hair length matters to me. At least I'd have proof in writing of the length they were supposed to cut.

I agree with Luxepiggy, if you start out telling her that you had a bad experience last time, she'll probably try to avoid duplicating a disaster, if only to prove she's better than a different nitwit.
Especially if this is a different salon, that will probably work best. I personally had a bad experience where the stylist cut me from BSL to APL, and I was ripped. I've never gone back to that chain of hair cutting places again, and instead went to a different one, and mentioning that was like sparking a competition.
Of course, as soon as I made it to waist length I started trimming my own hair, and haven't looked back.
Quite frankly, if after you share your concerns, don't worry about appearing brash. It's your hair, and she is expressly ignoring your wishes. If it were a tattoo artist or a surgeon, you'd object, right, this is the same. Well, presumably you'd be unconcious with the surgeon, but same idea...

Wow, luxepiggy, you rock! The psychology of it makes sense. The competition, making it MY issue, etc. I doubt I will appear nervous, but the stylists USUALLY ask how long it has been since my last cut, and since I never cut more than a year apart, they are always shocked, etc. (tho, come on, is it THAT uncommon?). Then I get the "do you color your hair? What products do you use?" and last time during the fix cut I got "I have never cut anyone's hair as long as yours". Hopefully I will find a segue, because I tend to appear snotty if I just am blunt, which is how I usually am. Ultimately, I care more about how my hair turns out than how I make her feel, but if how I make her feel affects HOW my hair turns out, well...
I don't like to rant or go on about a bad experience. I like to state the facts and leave out the unnecessary criticism. It IS a different salon, but I am hesitant to say WHICH salon did it, because it's uncouth, and although I had great cuts from there before this one gal, sadly they lost my business due to her. THAT has more to do with the salon hiring someone as incapable as she was. This new salon is a not a chain. The woman cutting my hair is the owner, very established (30 years?) and thus the wait to get in.
I feel like I have spent way too much mental energy on this stupid trim. I even had a nightmare about it last night! I was thinking of posting it on the thread about hair dreams, but not sure I want to relive it.
Actually, I did a clarify yesterday with ACV rinse and my conditioning balm to follow and the ends seem better (it had been along time since I clarified). Another post on the Main Forum prompted me to do this. I sort of forgot abut clarifies. What are the odds she says I don't need a trim and sends me away? HA. Not likely. I mean, I CAN see splits...
Ok, so, I was going to wash my hair before I go because I don't want my hair going don the drain of their sinks and because I have NEVER had a good experience with the post-wash combing at a salon. Do you think she will be able to accurately determine the condition of my ends while they are wet?
Need to quit obsessing.

Do you think she will be able to accurately determine the condition of my ends while they are wet?
Not really, unless she is very attentive. If you aren't a daily washer, I'd wash the night before, and let it dry before going. You have a good idea of how much needs to go, balanced with how much you want to have cut. I would just give the raw numbers, and not leave it up to her/him to determine the condition of the hair, especially since you don't seem to trust the trimmer. If you have to trust them on both counts (the amount trimmed, and their judgment of your hair) it will increase your stress. Pick a number, and have them stick to it.

Well I am seriously thinking of cancelling my appt. I think I do have that phobia, because my heart starts racing thinking about it. How dumb. I was really astonished at the improvement of my ends after the clarify and even though I do have some splits, now that the ends don't FEEL fried, maybe they do not warrant a trim but rather a good S&D (which I don't have time to do really). I have a week to make up my mind. My rule has always been "when in doubt, don't" and I think I need to cancel it. I can always shcedule it again later. I am thinking about asking a 3rd party their opinion of my ends, like my Mom or someone. Wish I was friends with a stylist that would give me an honest opinion.

Maybe it's because of the ends? I used to argue with hairdressers, who was saying that tirimming causes faster growth. This doesn't have to be true, though some people noticed faster growth after a trim. BUT I am sure that damaged ends crumble. And in a fact you are losing more length than you gain because of crumbling. That's why we need to trim. Not to stimulate growth but to stop crumbling. It's just my crazy theory, but it works in my case. I am stuck too, but at BSL, which is worse:D

I trim my hair every 6-8 weeks. I keep it at hip length, but it heads toward tailbone, and then the trim brings back its swing and shine. Trimming doesn't make hair grow faster, but it can help it to break less and look thicker and healthier.

Hello everyone! :waving:
I recently did a self-trim, which made me discover that my hair was longer than I thought it was. Before my trim,, I thought that I was just above waist (yay for hair anorexia) but I had to trim off three or four inches of hair off because I haven't been to the hair dresser in over a year-and-a-half and my ends were starting to resemble Velcro. When I finally trimmed all of my ends off, I realized that my new, even hemline is pretty much smack-dab on waist-length, maybe a little more. So my very thin ends were about halfway to hip-length!
So here I am! :D
I don't know when I'm going to get to tailbone length because I have decided to do monthly micro-trims to get rid of my horrible layers and to even up my hemline. Since my hair grows insanely fast (roughly a foot a year, no joke, I just measured how much my hair has grown), I expect to reach tailbone sometime within the next year, even with trims.
My final goal is Classic length, but I have been contemplating knee-length for a while now. I'll see what happens when I get to Classic and I'll just worry about getting to hip and tailbone lengths first.

I am about an inch and a half away from tailbone!! Ah! That's only about 3 to 4 months for me. I've been doing tiny trims here and there to keep my hemline blunt and thick. It's not as thick as I would like, but it is very old dye down there so I can't expect too much.
I'm so excited, if I keep going on this path I'm going to have really nice, thick hear for my wedding in November next year :D

Hey, we are both at 36"! And both about 1.5" away from TBL! Are you 5'4" tall? I am going to do a microtrim on myself in a few days (I have to measure tomorrow first, I measure once a month for a year and tomorrow is my measure date for August). I grow about 1/2 to 3/4" a month. It averages right at 1/2, so I expect to be at TBL by my birthday in early December.

Hello all. I am tiptoeing in, my hair is oh so nearly waist length...
Anyway could some of you tell me roughly wear TB is for you. I am 5'10 and waist is about 32 inches, I think hip 35 inches and TB around 39 ish inches. Is it the very bottom of my backbone give or take an inch?
I am wondering if my measurements are out by a lot.
I shall be back properly in a couple of months when I feel more confident that I am really at waist. My hair was BSL (bottom bsl) in Dec 09 and has made it to waist 8 months later which is slow old growth.

Cleopatra - I have been thinking back to when I last grew from waist to TB. I did have several periods of stalling. In my case I cut back to waist end of May 06 had my son in June 06. By Sept 07 it was hip. And there it stayed for a while - hormones and stress in my case - had my daughter in June 08 and my hair was not noticeably longer than in Sept 07. Then it grew madly for a while and stopped in May 09.
Everytime I get stressed or have any sort of hormonal change my hair sheds badly and it just wont grow. I do a lot of S&D. I also have 2a hair ( i think). The trouble I think with wavy hair can be that it needs to grow more to cover the same length due to the waves when compared with straight hair. Also I find that wavy hair tends to be quite prone to fairytale ends and I think they are more vulnerable to splitting/ damage etc. I also have very fine hair. The end result being that I have to wear it up nearly all the time to prevent damage and tangles. I also now rely heavily on coconut oil.
I am sorry I can't be much more use but have some hair growing :cheese: from me

I totaly agree with you,I was in the exact same position but my hair never reached anything after waist length,I think that hair just crumbles after that length and cant't deal with any further abuse.Sadly even my sister has hip length now (same as me) and she is even taller, and I wont talk about the things she does to her hair becuase they are simply too many.

My hair also sheds SO MUCH from stress and god knows how much i pressure i was under last year, but also it sheds in the fall AND in the spring..and it's really frustrating sometimes. The S&D are the main cause for my thin ends because when i started i had ALOT of split ends and I just didnt want to trim anymore (i trimmed 2-3 inches at the begining) so i did S&D every other day to remove the splits (which sometimes were 2-4 inches up the shaft).I just want to get to tailbone so I can cut all that damage and fairy tale ends.

OK! Yesterday was my measure date and I measured somewhere between 36.25 - 36.5. I did a self-dusting, my first ever. It looks even! DH said I am an even 36" now so I am very happy I canceled my trimming appointment, saved $25 and didn't ruin my hair. I was pleased that, in the last month, my hair had grown from 35.5 to 36. 25, 3/4"!!
No more trimming for a year, if a dusting even counts. I then set out to do an S&D. There was nothing to S&D on my ends, but the shorter hair around the circumference of my head (is there a term for this hair?) always takes the most abuse and there were many splits to S&D there. That hair is nowhere near hip lenth.
I also did an experiment the last week or so with my regular conditioner vs. the Bioloage Balm, and I think I am ditching the regular conditioner. My hair has ALWAYS loved cones but either our water has changed or at hip+ length my hair changed it's "mind"? Also not sure I can oil it anymore.

Interesting, my hair seems to have done the same thing. I hit 35" and it was almost as though my hair did change it's mind. It doesn't like oil any more, it seems to prefer shampoo bars with VO5 conditioner on the last 6 inches, and nothing else. It is light, soft and fluffy when I follow that routine, it is lank and sad when I add oils or other leave ins... When I oil, my hair is either limp, or like plastic.

Unfortunately I hit TBL at 95ish cm. So I have to grow it 8.5cm more to get it. 90cm is just the next tiny goal which I already had in July, before 5.5cm were cut.:( I agreed with 3cm, but in the end my hair was 5.5cm shorter.

I should really get a trim myself, but as my hair grows so slowly I have decided to just let it stay see-through and start maintaining once I reach TB. If I ever get there, man does my hair move at glacial speed!

Unfortunately I hit TBL at 95ish cm. So I have to grow it 8.5cm more to get it.
My TBL is about 100cm :) I was almost there, but I trimmed and now I'm set back a little. Stalls are annoying, but it's okay. you'll get to TBL sooner than you realize :D

I'm about waist right now and I've been thinking I'll go for TB. I've got a lot of splits though, so I think a trim is in order which is going to set me back a couple inches.

Another newbie to the waist-to-tailbone thread here!! I just took some pics of my hair and noticed it was an inch past my waist. I am high waisted, it seems (30" - 31"). I actually really only have my ultimate goal as hip, not tailbone but I'm sure that'll change ;). I have no idea what part of my hip to aim for. Maybe once I can upload my latest photo some of you can help me figure that out!

On me, I find lengths between waist & high hip to be more flattering than lengths between high hip & TBL. I think it's probably for the same reason one should avoid skirts or boots that stop at the widest part of the calf; it tends to make people think the rest of you is the same width! :p
Of course, those of taller stature may not have this issue; maybe it's unique to very small piggies

Whee, I fit in this journey thread! Right now, I'm about 2 inches past waist if my eyes don't deceive me. I'm kind of short, so that's around 30 inches. I don't think I've ever grown my hair past hip, but I hope to be at least hip+ by Christmas. I'm praying that my growth rate won't slow down or stall, haha. My ultimate goal is terminal, which I hope is at least knee-length.

Hmm, that's something to think about! I mean I have a high waist but a really long (and wide) rear end. If I ever wanted to create the illusion of a smaller butt by covering it with my ends it would be another ten years...probably :p.
I think for you, Luxepiggy, and others with thick hair, it hides a lot more. My hair is relatively thin and starting to get threadbare on the ends, so people can still see my narrower parts. Ha ha. Well there's one advantage to having ratty ends, I guess.:D
I think I want to get to hip and stay there because I don't think I want to put up with my hair any longer than that. I think it will get on my nerves much beyond that. I dunno. I'm sure I'll change my mind later.

Lol, the artist's website is meadowhaven.net (http://meadowhaven.net/). Her art is really pretty, and she has plenty of art featuring long hairs!
I'm kind of in the same boat with growing. I'm trying to ignore growth for at least 3 months, which will be much easier once school starts. In the meantime, experimenting with treatments and styling will be lots of fun!

Sigh. I was there a month ago, but my fairytale ends were really starting to get Velcroey and annoyed me, so I did a big (~3") trim and I'm back to just barely hip length. It's SO much healthier now, and I think I got the rest of the "long layers" that I had cut about 5 years ago (forgot about that until this trim left me with nontapered hair!), but now I have to wait it out to tailbone again.

I am in my 8th month of no trims. I was trying to hold out for a year but I miss being able to easily finger comb my hair. Is this just a length issue in combination with clingy ends? Or could I trim those ends off and get some managable hair again? I've never had it this long so I just don't know what to do besides just keep it up forever. :(

If you have already clarified and tried different methods to moisturize, then I would start with a dusting. Even the smallest trims can make a huge difference I have found with clingy ends :)

Others like to use the actual end of tailbone as the indicator, which for many is about an inch down from BCL.

For me, above waist length I had no hassles with my hair at all. I could constantly leave it down and I didn't have issues with it being lent on or caught up when I slept. From about waist length onwards I've had to braid it to keep it out of the way. My parents were weirded out when I went home wearing updo's.
Getting incresingly longer! Woo! Just did a little bit of a s&d and my ends are feeling so much prettier. Yay for self controlled scissors.

As for the manageability matter--that's why I keep mine hip length. Longer than waist but shorter than tailbone. It's manageable for me at that length, but not at tailbone and longer.

wearing it down seems to be becoming more and more of a hassle as I get longer. In the car, I used to just be able to flip it in front of my shoulder to avoid the seatbelt and it was fine. Now, when I do that, it gets caught under the lap belt, rather than the shoulder strap...
I've got maybe another 1/2" to tailbone. :D if I don't decide I need a trim before then...

Been away for a while, and doing some serious 'benign neglect' when it comes to my hair. I haven't been fussing with it or taking pictures of it for some time because it seemed like it wasn't growing at all. I finally caved and got a pretty decent length shot.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v18/Keller/Hair/IMG_3705a.jpg
I really feel like I am hovering at this point, and it's super frustrating because my hair also springs back up 3 inches whenever it's fully dry. I've also had to do a few trims so, although I know my hair is growing thanks to my roots (growing out henna, right now), it is staying the same length.
Right now, I am torn between persevering, and cutting it.

I love to tilt my head back as far as it can go and see how long it is then. Going by past experience, when I do this, it is about how long my hair will be in a year without trims.

Hi everyone :waving: I'm jumping into this thread after leaving the BSL to Waist thread. I kind of took the benign neglect thing into taking and posting progress pictures...I'm lazy with photos. Badly. It's been a while since I took any hair pictures and even longer since I posted any, and I didn't realize I'd gained a few inches.
Anyway, I'm about two inches past waist right now (I'd post a pic, but we can't upload to our albums just now), and hope to get to TBL as soon as possible. :)

My hair ist stubborn, so i need really some advises for updos. I tried sticks and forkes, but i have allways the feeling, my hair on one hand is not long enough for it, on the other its to heavy to be hold by sticks and forks and my scalp starts hurting after a while because i have to make the updos so tight that they stay on there place....does this make sense??
My daily updos are braids an scrunchie-buns.... very boring.....

Have you tried wide bear claw clips over a gently twisted bun/doubled over twist? I'm talking about clips that look like the ones on the second row of this page:
http://www.scrunchies.com/index.cfm?templ=accessories
I have one that I've had forever and I love it, I use it constantly. It's really durable and it can hold a lot of hair without feeling like it's pulling in any one direction or feeling heavy.

I am living in germany and this brand i have not seen here, but i have a lots of claw clips in all sizes. Unfortunately all of them are hurting or they can 't keep my hair in place.
Just today i was wearing a big oktopus claw-clip over my ponytail-5-strand-braid to hold the elastic a bit more secure on place, but there where no chance to take more hair into it, so the tail was hanging down.
Last week i bought the biggest claw-clip i ever had, but this one was to soft to hold it up. My stup---stubborn hair just makes itselfs bigger and bigger, the clip opened under the pressure...thats it.
But thank you for your suggestion, if i see this brand here one day, i will try it for sure!

What types of updos are you making with the sticks & forks? I've never had issues with updos pulling on my scalp when I use sticks - how are you inserting the sticks?
Also, on another note - have you tried a sockbun? I find those to be very comfy for all-day wear as well (^(oo)^)v

I feel like I am stalled but I know I am not. It is just frustrating, when I was at 34", it looked like I had about 1.5" to go to TBL. Now I am 36" and still have at least another inch. Maybe my perception of where TBL is changed? I was going by my actual tailbone knobby thing.
So close....why is it taking so long? LOL, hence my screen name.

I took off about 3-4 inches over the weekend, which put me safely above TBL, but still past hip. Probably will cut another 3 inches or so to get myself between waist & high hip today or tomorrow.
I guess this thread's going to be stuck with me for a while! (^(oo)^)

Welcome! This may be my permanent home. :)
Looking for up-do instruction was how I first found LHC. Have you found the article section?

I spent a long time reviewing and practicing making buns. The instructions and videos are great. Now I wear buns every day instead of braiding. I find them much easier, faster and more comfortable than any other way to wear my hair. It's amazing how easy and comfortable a single stick can be once you figure out how to use it right! :D

When I started conditioning my hair it got into a growth spurt and it took about four months to get to waist, and now the longest strands are about hip. Haven't gotten to tailbone just yet.

I tried the chinese bun and the figur 8 several times the last view years and every time i was not very successfull. Maybee its not my hair which is strange, but my hands?
The sockbun worked very well untill i past midback length. Now its looking to big, i look like an alien with it:shrugg:

I am right there with you!
My hair feels so short to me, as if it isn't growing at all, even though it must be since my roots are horrendous (growing out henna is a chore). DH took a shot of me the other day when I was out wading and I was surprised by how long my hair looks from the back. It looks shorter when I'm peering over my shoulder. So I had him take some shots for me. I feel like I have been saying "so close" for MONTHS.

Does anyone else find that plaiting their hair at this length is really annoying? Maybe it's just my hairtype, but whenever I try to do anything more complex than an English braid, or God forbid a half-up, the ends of my hair all cling and stick to each other. It's maddening! :(

Locksmith, could it be build up? It can make hair act grabby and velcro like on the ends. My ends are quite damaged and all worn out and it happens to me all the time. When I braid I have to separate the strands every once in a while, and when I undo the braid I need to be extra careful and undo each bump separately before moving up or I'll get a nasty tangle on my ends.

Hmmm. I guess it could be, though I do an acid rinse every time I wash, and it's not long since I clarified with an SLS shampoo. You're probably right about it being damage - I know I badly need a trim!

I think my hair is hip length now... I'm pregnant and my stomach is starting to really grow faster, so it's kinda hard for me to tell exactly where my waist and hips used to be compared to where they are now! But I'd say my hair reaches just to the top of my hipbones.
I don't know how long I want to grow my hair. The plan was to grow to waist, then decide where to maintain there, or grow it longer. I'm way to attached to it to cut it now! Also, I've determined not to cut beyond S&D until after the baby in January. Don't want to do anything I'd regret because of pregnancy brain! I think I'm going to go to classic, then make another decision from there. But for now, I'm eagerly awaiting TBL! :D

I haven't been on here in ages, but I'm excited to report I've reached BCL!! I've been so busy for the past month that I've been wearing my hair up all the time. I finally wore it down for a while yesterday only to realize that my hair has grown and now reaches the top of my bum. Only another inch or two until true TB.
Now I just have to figure out what I'm going to do when I reach my goal. I've been dreaming about it since I was 6, so it's taken me a while to get there. I think I'll maintain for a bit, and then decide if I want longer, shorter, or to stay the same.

@ Irnann Perhaps you could try a bun with a large beak clip, or something similar? A clip like this (http://www.hipsterchic.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/Antique-Gilt-Butterfly-Beak-Clip.jpg), or this (http://www.pretty-pieces.co.uk/v/vspfiles/photos/A07RHANC05-1.jpg). Mine is roughly 5 inches. I usually make a cinnabun or braided bun and work the tip of the clip into the bun so that it catches scalp hair and bun hair. It's alright if the clip doesn't close. I personally don't care if some of my ends are sticking out, especially for everyday, casual wear. The key is figuring out where and how to clip so that the bun feels stable and you barely feel it. Sometimes it takes me a few tries before I find a good angle/hold. I personally don't open the clip up very much while inserting, so the tip is often hidden under hair as well. Hopefully this is helpful! I'm sorry if it's confusing, but of course it would be so much easier just to show you in person.

@ Irnann Haha, rose buns used to be my go-to style! I found they were easy to manipulate and looked really pretty without a lot of work. I used to have trouble with braided buns, but now they are easy. I haven't tried a double braided bun, though, but maybe I will soon. Oh, I don't know if this will apply to your hair, but I simply stab the clip straight into the bun. I don't use the reverse pinning method for this one, especially since it wouldn't with my particular clip (it's got a pretty, open metal pattern towards the spring end that used to catch horribly on my hair when I had less practice). Also, the end of the clip near to the spring will sometimes catch scalp hair, making it difficult to remove. I've learned to check and clear the hair out/away from the end before removing the clip.

Congrats! I checked today, too, and I can say I am BCL as well! I did not realize it either. My hair has grown seemingly fast since my microtrim a few weeks ago, I lost about 1/4" and have gained 3/4" since. My official measure date for the month is Wednesday.
I have another inch til TBL. Right at 38".
My goal was TBL, then TBL braided. Now it is classic. Only I am having a huge urge to shave it all off and start over. I doubt I ever would. I don't know if I can make it to classic, though, my hair is already getting on my nerves. I hope it is a phase.

My official measurement for the end of September (and the end of my 5th year at LHC) is 35 inches (1 1/2 inches past hip).
Last night I cut 3 inches of damaged ends taking me back to 32 inches (1.5 inches shorter than hip).
Onward to BCL and Tailbone for me this year ahead, and butt length if it grows fast enough.

Have actually made that mistake this last fortnight. My hair is slowly reaching solid tailbone. I've had thoughts of having a 4-5 inch chop to make it all one length, to bring it to my old fringe. For now I'll just let it grow, as it's way too much effort for me right now.

Today is my measure date. I have grown between 1/2 and 3/4 inches since my microtrim a month ago. I always record the lower measurement, so I am at 36.5" now. I am really only about 1/2 inch from TBL but I like the extra inch to make it solid. So probably by December sometime.
I think my sleep cap is causing me splits. I tried to sleep without it last night and my husband layed on it and had me pinned by my hair. That is the first time that has ever happened. I am going to try a different material. I really need my sleep cap!

I tried this once and got a massive headache. Well, not with a flexi, with a small stick. I make a sleep stocking, a cap with a long sleeve my hair stays inside. I have a thread about it, but here is the photo:
http://i393.photobucket.com/albums/pp17/Poetry4me75/th_P1030516.jpg (http://s393.photobucket.com/albums/pp17/Poetry4me75/?action=view¤t=P1030516.jpg)
Anyway of restraining my hair (braid, bun) hurts my head. I have tried loose but I just cannot do it anymore, it has reached some magic incompatible length for that with my sleeping habits I guess. (I am a stomach sleeper). What stinks is that my stockings are not nice on my hair, even though one is silky, I seem to be getting splits from it. I know the weave is too loose and my hairs will thread through the fabric.
The one I made today is no better, BUT I can make this cool turban-do with it that I can do my chores in! An awesome way to keep my hair up without braids or bunning (but looks hideous, LOL). I should get a picture. I have one more piece of fabric I will try, it is silky, too but very heavy. SIGH. This may be as long as my hair gets, if I cannot sleep, what will I do???

WaitingSoLong I like the look of your sleep cap, but knowing myself I think I need something a bit more confined. My hair would go nuts loose inside something. However, I wonder if you could make a cap out of one of the inexpensive silk pillowcases from Dharma Trading Co.? I use a plain white silk pillowcase from there over my regular pillowcase and that does help with keeping my hair smoother.
I don't know if a stick would work for me like the Flexi does. I tend to need a bit tighter bun for the stick to hold, since it is friction fit, as it were. A Flexi can hold a bit looser bun securely, so long as I don't toss and turn too much. I have to use a bit shorter one that I sometimes wear during the day, so it doesn't stick out to the sides. I've also found that if I put the bun up too high on the back of my head that it will be tender and sore in the morning. If it is too low on my neck then it gets in my way. The things we go through to have long hair! lol

It has to be a stretchy fabric. I tried with regular silk/satin and it wouldn't work. The hair is somewhat loose in there. I may sew the sleeve part narrower.
I have one flexi and it is forever popping open and falling out. I hate it! lol And that is wearing it by day, not at night.

WaitingSoLong, have you tried a regular sleepcap like e.g. Cinnamon Hair uses it?
I just made one out of satin and it works fine. My hair is 7cm from TB now. I had to make my own one, as all the ones you can buy are to large for me. I have a child size head
My hair started growing again in September. Maybe it wasn't happy with the weather in August. ( It was raining all the time.) I guess it saw the rain and decided to stay inside. ;)

Nah, I am still using the one from the picture. Last night I slept with it loose because I was too tired to put it on.
I am SOOOOO close to TBL is hurts. I measure, it grows, but still never TBL? It is some evil trick! Like, my torso is growing at the same rate as my hair. I think I need to just forget about it for awhile and reassess in December.

This is so true for me. I was 'close to tailbone' the closer I get, the straighter I stand up and the pickier I get about "is that REALLY the tip of my tailbone?" UGH so yes torso is growing.

I'm at definite BCL now. My braid also gets stuck under my arm now. That's a first. Normally my hair only gets stuck under my arm when it's down. Woo! When I first started growing my hair here I only had 7 braid bumps, I now have 15. I'm so happy with my progress.
Been considering putting an ash dye only on my ends to take away the red coppery look to them, but I'm not wanting to damage my brittle ends any more :/

I am SOOOOO close to TBL is hurts. I measure, it grows, but still never TBL? It is some evil trick! Like, my torso is growing at the same rate as my hair. I think I need to just forget about it for awhile and reassess in December.
Haha...I could have written this! This is so exactly where I am, too. Even my estimates based on my monthly growth said I should have been at upper TBL by now--and I've measured the right amount of growth each month, but it's not there yet! How can that happen??
Yep, wait until December. Surely we'll be there by then!

Pic from today. Hands at tailbone. My ends are getting thin and this fall shedding is not fun. :(

This is so true for me. I was 'close to tailbone' the closer I get, the straighter I stand up and the pickier I get about "is that REALLY the tip of my tailbone?" UGH so yes torso is growing.
This is exactly what I do. I am starting to see some "I reached TBL" posts and I think my hair is as long or longer than theirs, yet I do not consider myself at true TBL yet. Plus, it depends on what jeans I am wearing, I look more TBL in some than others, because it gives a different illusion of where TBL is.
I am highly concerned about my shed rate right now. I am on some long term antibiotics and wonder if it is making me shed. I am afraid TBL will be term if this keeps up.

I just discovered, that my FTE are purely due to my camera. It must have been a hair dresser before.
It cuts off about 5cm and is thinning my ends.
I met some other loghairs last weekend and the difference in the pictures was stunning. I have a almost blunt hemline and they looked much longer than on my pictures.
When I realized that I decided to let it grow to classic without trims. I like FTE and I want them at least during the journey. When I hit Classic I am going to trim 5mm each month, until I hit my ultimate goal. (Which is now 8cm shorter, as I measured wrong.)

I finally got around to a serious S&D, and now my ends are so wispy and see through. It is strange. I'm definitely past hip, but depending on how my hair lies, it looks like it is barely touching hip...
Getting frustrated at this point

That's why I keep my hair trimmed blunt. It stays thick.
Right now, it's inching past hip toward tailbone again. I'm wondering if I'll get even more cut off next time I get a trim. Usually I get it trimmed back to hip length. I wonder what BSL would feel like? It's been decades since it was that short.

I have to say, your ends don't look thin to me. :flower: I tend to baby my hair during winter so that it will bounce back in the spring. Fall and summer are my major shedding times, too.
