I think you're almost at TBL. Not exactly there yet. Just an inch away. I see since you've joined TLC you have gained lots of length!!! I have too!!! When I joined I started at a chin length short bob, and now I'm at BSL on my way to MBL!!!! I'm expected to hit hip length this coming December. Or, at the end of the year.

Hi, you're welcome very much! I bet it is an exciting feeling! I also hope that I get there ASAP too! Hey, I've got a genetic question to ask.....If you have 2 people on your dad's side of the family that has had hair in their life a little pass their butts, and I've taken my genes mostly after my dad can I also grow hair down to a little pass my butt as well? The only thing I have of my mom is her eyes. Now, she always often tell me that I've taken my thick hair after hers. Nowadays I don't think my hair is as thick as hers. Now, I think with me as a kid my hair used to be thick like hers but not anymore.

Yes, you are definitely right about that! The longest my hair has ever been in my whole life has been MBL but I honestly think that it can grow a lot longer than that. I know I've posted and have asked this question through another thread on here. But I haven't gotten enough answers.

I hate knowing I've gotta wait a little bit more before reaching hip XD But I had to do a microtrim the other day, it was less than a centimeter (2,5 centimeters = an inch sorta) so it's under a months growth. It was mostly racer hairs. I needed those fresh ends!!!

Soooooo I got a proper trim today at the hairdressers after I got my streak redone. Might be back at waist, will measure and do my monthly photo at the weekend, but velcro ends are gone, and hem is thicker so I can deal with a bit of length loss. One day I will get to hip haha, I just need to stop messing about with ponytails and put my hair up properly.

vampyyri: Your hair is unbelievable!
I think I want to maintain my hair at between hip and tailbone. I just cut it, and I think it's hip lenght now? Or waist? I'm not good with the classifiers. It was ehm....buttcrack length before I cut it :p My hair grows 1 cm/0.4 iches a month, so I guess it will be tailbone length by the end of the year, or a bit before.
I have posted this picture in the "thin hair" thread as well. I don't think my hair can take much more length than tailbone length and still look good. It looks fuller in pictures than in real life, since it sometimes gets a bit stringy. I prefer to wear it down as well, and I imagine that would be difficult with hair longer than tailbone length.

lucid, I went "ooooh" when I saw the photo. You have the hair type I adore the most. The silky smooth mirrorlike surface. Wonderful.
I came here to announce that when I was away from the forums I reached TBL and now I'm 4 cm (1.6") beyond it, at 103 cm :) I've been there before (exactly at 103 cm) but I always trimmed back due to old damage that was plaguing my ends. Now I'm there to stay (and grow to classic) so let me fly off to the "TBL to classic" thread! :)

^ I'm still afraid to attempt my first ever self trim, heh.
I don't think I'll try it for a while. My hemline is adequate, though a bit crooked, so I'll survive for a few more months. In the meantime, I am so excited for my Jan. 1st measurement. It will be near my 1st anniversary of joining and I'll most likely get to call hip. I'm pretty confident that I'm there right now, I just want to be 100% sure.
Hi Aurum! I do self trims yearly all of the time. I don't let anyone else trim my hair, and I usually only have to trim off 1cm. I hardly ever have a split or damaged ends! You are so lucky to be calling it hip now. I can't wait until I can call it hip length this coming December. Or, at the end of this year.

Serimel, PixieP, Henrietta, Spirals and Kat-Rinnč Naido, thank you all for the nice comments, I really appreciate it <3
I was thinking about maintaining at the length that I am now (hip, thank you PixieP for helping me with the terms :) )....But I want it at tailbone length. I think my braid looks better when it is a bit longer and I just feel that my hair is a bit short now. I'm hesitant about growing it longer because of my thickness (2.5'') and the fact that it is completely straight. I'm afraid that it will look too thin and stringy... I have to add that I'm 176 cm (5'9) , so my hair needs to be really long for it to reach tailbone length... I have a bit of tapering though, because of my episode with TE last year, so in a couple of years my lengths will probably have thickened up a bit. I don't know if dusting may be better option until the tapering is gone, or if I should just stick to my regular hair cutting regime (once every 1-1.5 year)... hmmm..

I would go for the length you desire. You can't know how it looks and feels without trying. And it's always easy to cut back if it doesn't sit well on you. I don't think your thickness/thin'ness or straigthness should be an issue as long as you keep your hair healthy. If I were you I would go with the dusting/micro trimming programme acquiring length little by little while keeping the ends fresh. Your hemline looks ok to me and I don't think your hair will look stringy at tbl. Anyhow, only you know what works best for you and your hair.

For some 1a/F-inspiration look up LadyEllethwyn, she has about your texture and shows that that is NO problem for along, beautiful hair! If you feel like your hair is stringy now then that might be routine-based too, don't blame it all on texture :) Personally I love the look of silky sleek 1a hair, and think it looks so impressive when it's long!
I would suggest microtrimming too, if you want to keep your hemline fresh.

Awesome, I will!! I have seen so many people in here with lovely thin hair, so it gives me lots of motivation to keep on :)
I actually think you are right regarding the stringyness, I just haven't thought about it that way, but it makes sense. I used to get stringy hair if I didn't brush it when it was dry after shower (it was straight, but stringy). But after I switched to CWC I haven't had that problem at all now that I think about it. So I guess I should work a bit on my hair confidence as well. :o

I'm also planning on growing to tailbone length too! The first time I grew my hair to waist length, I had thin fairytale ends and it basically maintained the same length for a year (before I chopped it all off), because I had a lot of breakage and I only trimmed my hair once a year. Maybe you could try trimming your hair more frequently than you typically do so you don't get a drastic taper (your ends look very lovely right now), but don't trim off all your growth so you can slowly but surely grow to tailbone length. I am beginning to trim 1/2 inch every three months because I am aware that my hair can fairytale easily, and since it is fine, break easily if I don't begin to trim frequently. I'm exactly at the length I used to be, and while my ends are a bit thin, they are not fairytaling at all and look so much nicer than the previous time I tried to grow out my hair (I do love fairytaling, but fairytaling for me typically means breakage). From experience with my own hair, if I trim it when it needs to be trimmed, and try to actually take care of it instead of just letting it grow, my ends are so much thicker this way! If you don't have bad breakage though, you could probably just let it grow a bit more really, your hemline still looks thick (in my opinion) and lovely!

It's been 4 days since I washed it and so my 3a has turned into 2a braid waves. Thus, it's solidly at hip and I can tell it will be BCL 2" from now. I never realize how long it is unless I use two mirrors to look at it. I think I need to take some kind of length pic but I can't get it to behave. It goes all lopsided and floofy. #curlyproblems

It's hard to see because I have a short mirror. But I think I can call this tailbone, semi stretched. My goal is hips or tailbone, curly. This is a brush and braid out on dry hair, so the waves aren't as defined.

You're welcome:) Yes, I know:) As my mom told me on last week that it's a possibility that I can grow extremely long hair from her side of the family, and also from my dad's side of the family!!! I've very excited about it! As to I had one aunt and a cousin that is deceased that used to wear their hair all the way down to the top of their thighs!!!! Or, it was classic length. So, I know I can do it:)

Aunty Miki, I forgot to also say that I used to have a longtime high school girlfriend of mine that had hip length hair as well!!! And, it was the most gorgeous hip length hair at our high school too!!! I haven't seen her in 30 years. One year I saw her visiting the school after she graduated, and it a couple of after I saw that she has went through the big chop up to chin length!!!! So, today I don't know if she has let all of her hair grow back that long or not. Especially, after getting married, and having 4 kids.

Awesome! Your hair is beautiful, btw, such cool colors! :eye:
I'm getting fairly close to BCL too, I probably have 2-3 inches to go until BCL, and about 2-3 inches beyond that is TBL on me. ( I was looking over my shoulder in the mirror the other day so I'm sure that's not entirely accurate, but very exciting nonetheless!) This means I should be at tailbone within a year, maybe even pretty close by the end of 2017 depending on what my actual growth rate is... which I should also be discovering this year!

I'm just gonna toss a photo in here because I just took some yesterday. These are the pants I normally wear for my monthly length shot, but not an official length shot because it's the wrong day and a different angle and all that. BCL on me is pretty much where the top of my back pockets are, and tailbone is essentially at the very bottom of the picture (where the embroidery on the pockets meets the inner edge of the pocket, but I realize you can barely see that here). Also, yay for my first picture with my ACTUAL hair texture! (By the way, do you guys think I'm right about being 2a??)

Hi everyone, great lengths here. I'm popping back in again to confirm that I'm probably going to be here for a while. I had reached tailbone I'm pretty sure, but I had more splits than I could get with S&D so I just cut back a few inches to just shy of BCL again. I'm not too sad about it even though it's a few months of growth. Splits breed tangles and more splits for me, and I really have not been keeping up with my intended microtrimming. If I had, I probably would have lost that length anyway. I *was* just beginning to feel like my hair was really long though. I guess TBL is where that point is for me.

I'm solidly hip...actually I'm close to BCL. I've noticed in that last two months or so my bun is much more compact. And it's actually harder for me to bun than at any other length. A lot of hair things will sag now. Sticks, some forks, even a tusk was sagging this weekend. Ficcare are still pretty solid. So I have a finicky bun that I can hold with much smaller hair things than at say waist or hip. Like my bun compacts a lot and needs to be tighter to really stay. Anyone else experience this?
I can't say I like this trend...
Crystawni
March 27th, 2017, 08:27 PM
Yup. I'm getting a lot of use from 5" (pairs, or single spike) to 6" sticks, if that's any indication. The weight drags stuff down, so I'm bunning higher, too. All of my buns look smaller, but sit out more from my head due to the extra wraps around the stem. And my loopy buns tend to be tighter, too. Anything looser and the wrap + bun = southern explosion of the lot.
ETA: My go-to stick length is usually 6.5" - 7", which I still prefer for loopy buns that spread either side of the stem. But centre-held buns are fine with the shorties, even though I have stacks of fine hair, and a bigger head that is happy with longer and bigger hairtoys.
P.S. 3 and 4 prong Jeter forks are still some of the best forks for me, especially now, and are great for bun-spread, Quasi. Even Jeters with a smaller fpl (4") work in centre-helds, or inner loops of a cinnabun, but completely disappear behind a regular bun.
Cg
March 28th, 2017, 11:56 AM
My buns don't look any smaller, but they definitely stick out more, which feels heavy and looks unappealing. That's why I often resort to Spidermom's -- it sits low at the nape, doesn't pull, and doesn't look like it's afraid of my head.

At the beginning of last November my hair hit waist and I happily came over here. Then, it stalled. And stalled. AND STALLED. So I am still at waist! Boo. And then 2 nights ago I decided to do a small trim because I was sick of the straight hairline, and also my left side was longer than my right. (I last trimmed in June 2016 I think) So while it looked like I was taking inches off, it was only the uneven parts and the sides of my U, because somehow I STILL HAVE WAIST LENGTH HAIR. I really hope I can grow past waist, but it's kind of entertaining also, to magically still be at waist even after all that! :)
Oh and p.s. - I washed my hair last night and this morning I was IN LOVE with the shape of my hemline, which didn't look much different after cutting it when my hair was still dirty. So, yay! :)

Hey guys,
I think I will join you until July and then try to figure out what to do with my hair.
I have a few hairs grazing bcl and the rest is still chilling at hip(ish) .
Most people would probably say to cut those fast sprinting ends because even hemline and all that. But I feel kind of reluctant to cut my ends because those are the suckers who need like the most oil and get oiled the most. So it's kind of like I feel like I'm wasting resources if I oil the ends and then just have them meet with scissors.
But then the rest of my hair doesn't need as much as they do.
Do your ends need more then the rest of your hair?
And do you all plan on growing farther than tailbone in the long run or staying in the waist to tailbone sector?
Oh stub, I can so relate . I was like what seemed forever in the waist(ish) area, i think two years or so. But great that your hair is looking and feeling great after the trim. That's worth a million. Though for me I discovered "grow first, cut back later" is the way my hair wants to grow.
Lovely pics here from everyone I d like to stay

Hey Kellwise Gamgee - First of all, excellent username! Second - I think your hands are actually at hip. Tailbone is where your tailbone ends - like between your cheeks :p I think tailbone on you is actually closer to your countertop there. Third of all, your curls are just :crush:! I have like... three curls that hold that shape on my whole head, and the rest is mush. Do you use the LOC method to keep them uniform?

The age old question of where is this tailbone length! Anatomically it ends way past back. But if we trying to be anatomically correct, then why are not locating "hip" where the actual hip joint is? Some people refer to their beginning of the tailbone as "tailbone" especially in conversational speech. Mine would be located then tad before bcl. It sure is a bit confusing :D

Where does BCL fall in the waist-to-tailbone region? I can't really tell where hip or tailbone is on me but I know for sure I am at BCL. Just the thin ends, but at least they're there.

If I can just get the ends to thicken up here at BCL I'll be golden. Probably time for a trim!

Thank you for the kind words!! I have found my "holy grail" of products finally!! Involving Nightshade's hair oil and hair cream, so yes, I guess that is LOC!
My thumb is really at where my tailbone ends! I mean, maybe it's a smidge lower than that, but not much!!

I do really enjoy my natural color. Part of my decision to use henna is for structural support for the hair... It is very fragile and I get a lot of breakage. And part of it is that I am just craving an extra punch of copper. My hair color changes quite dramatically depending on how much time I spend in the sun, so it is already shifting to its summery color. Thank you for your compliment, though!

Ingrid your hair has definitely improved with the trims. I blame the dye for sure. I don't know what it is but it made my ends look like combed tumble weeds. A trim immediately improved things so great job on the microtrimming. It visibly paid off.

Dyeing my hair was the WORST decision. I kept at it for several years, too... no idea why I thought orange hair would suit me anyway. But yes, I know exactly what you mean about tumble weed ends, heh! It was hard growing it out at first, but it definitely gets easier, especially trimming along the way to get rid of the damaged hair, and seeing all the shiny new growth. If you're interested, I've got a timeline of progress photos in the "Giving up the dye/bleach and growing out natural? Share your progress." thread.

Hey there! Thanks. I think because of the "chunkiness " my tailbone tilts down...??... but I know my hair doesn't touch it. I'm curious to know if my hair would be longer on my body if I lost lbs?...hmmm

I'm 5'3", and my hair is BCL at 35" - I've always understood TBL to be basically halfway in between the top of the crack and the bottom of your bum since the actual tailbone not always too visible or apparent on most people with a little bit of pudge (like myself). :) Please someone correct me if I'm wrong though haha. Also, welcome to the thread! :D

That's my take on it, too, Aredhel. Unless you want to go for a dig around (hehehe ewwww), the halfway point is roughly good enough.

I just realized today that my hair is definitely past waist, and I was barely at waist when I called it 3 weeks ago! I'll have to get a picture tomorrow to see how much it's grown, but I think I've had a hair growthspurt!

Yeah, maybe the livingroom is a better option. :o

Though I will keep my hair up as it's a lot of wind here. Spending hours of detangling isn't something that will crack me up :p

I haven't posted in this thread for a while but my hair is almost covering my whole back now. I could call traditional tailbone in another two inches, but I'm about 5.5 inches away from true tailbone/mid-butt. That's a little less than 7.5 months of my full growth (0.75 in/month) so I won't quite make it this year, but this length feels alright. Like, it's not as long as I want it, I don't know where I'll want to stop yet, but I don't feel the pressure to grow-grow-grow as fast as I can anymore. And now that I know I can get back to an alright length within 3 years, probably in 2 years if I didn't trim the whole time, the idea of having to emergency-cut back to pixie isn't as scary as it was before. I wouldn't do it unless I absolutely had to, but it wouldn't be the end of my long hair dreams the way I thought it might up to this point.
Congratulations on reaching Tailbone length! Enjoy your new hair growth!

I hadn't done a length shot in a while- my excuse was no good mirrors in my new house, but I've figured it out with my laptop instead of cellphone. Getting there! 38.5 inches stretched.

Still need to figure out better lighting.

I am also joining this thread again. :) This was the last thread I was at before I shaved my hair off. I only made it to BCL. If I kept growing for a few more months, I would have graduated from this thread and gone for classic as well but, oh well, I will try again! I know this time I will make it.

Autny Miki, hair sometimes does that. Sometimes it grows like crazy only to barely grow at all for a while. How long has it been slowing down?

Just over the past three months or so. Remeasured: it grew 1" in a little over 2 months, so it's okay.
