I have noticed that I am not able to lean far enough back to get my hair out of the way of fastening clothing items. I stop there.:o
I don't 'feel' like it has gotten longer but I definitely have to move my hair to the over the shoulder position or else quick put it up for a minute when I get dressed. I haven't had toilet troubles yet.....I guess by that time it is put up. I doing the up for a month challenge.

I'm hovering around hip length at the ends while curly, just reached BCL stretched. My hair's getting in the way more again (long enough that it falls into my food or once, alarmingly, the stove even when it's braided) so I can definitely tell it's been growing. Time for another learning curve in handling it.
You can't see my hips very well since I took the length photo in a very loose shirt, but:

I am so jealous of your curls. for about 2 years I permed my hair to just that size curl. I had a great hair dresser. Then I moved and couldn't find anyone to trust with my hair after that. How long is your hair when you pull it down straight??

Thanks, everyone! :D
Thanks, schweedie!! And wow, lookit you, all fresh and thickly full! Surprise chop, you say? Do tell more!
Oh, my normally so reliable hairdresser took off about 3 inches more than I wanted - there must've been a misunderstanding. I am quite enjoying the lightness of it, and the thick-ish ends, but my buns are unstable, to say the least!
Lemon, your hair looks so soft!

This is what I've been noticing- I think I'm on the verge of needing to do some more planning ahead with certain things.....like I'm still leaving it down a lot to sleep (it's often wet still), and I've started to keep something by my bed to quick put it up if I get up in the middle of the night.
I suffocate if I leave mine down overnight as I'm a restless (wake upish, roll, stick arm under pillow, leg out of covers, snooze... wake upish, roll, stick arm under pillow, kick the covers, arm in, arm out...) sleeper. My hubs has been known to be laughing while trying to find me in the morning under my webbed nest of mop. Even my old nightly go-to French braid strangles me. Now I throw it all up into a high top-head cinnabun or lwb, or bun my braid (held with starlites combo forks that live beside the bed if not in my hair).
I'm hovering around hip length at the ends while curly, just reached BCL stretched. My hair's getting in the way more again (long enough that it falls into my food or once, alarmingly, the stove even when it's braided) so I can definitely tell it's been growing. Time for another learning curve in handling it.

Gorgeous texture! :D And yes, my hair taste-tests my food and plays with fire if it slides out of containment (which happens when I rush to bun before cooking/eating). Slippery hair--bah! But yay for longedness and the (rare to many people) lessons we're learning!
I have noticed that I am not able to lean far enough back to get my hair out of the way of fastening clothing items. I stop there.:o

I've been getting my swing on, where I swing my hair to whatever shoulder/side to get it out the way. My left shoulder is my go-to if it's down for longer stints. That doesn't always work, though, as tendrils tend to go their own way. My hair is only really down on wash day (twice a week) while it air dries, so not enough for me to develop hair-hacks that become habit quick enough. But I have had to tuck it into something (strap, underwear, etc.) temporarily if I am caught with it down and in the way. My daughters often have hairties on their wrists for the emergency updo, but that's not something I use. Instead, I have clipped a Ficcare to my strap, or tucked a hairstick in my pocket or belt in case.
Lemon, your hair looks so soft and beautiful! Just be aware S&D sessions can thin out your hemline a bit (which is no worries if you're after FTEs or trim/microtrim to thicken it back up periodically).
schweedie... Whaaaaaaaa? Really? That's a fair bit more than a misunderstanding. Yeah, I concur--not so reliable. I'm glad you're enjoying the new aspects of it, but feel your pain with the bun hassles. I had that when I trimmed after a year of no-trimming. Give it a few months. For now, it really does look great!

Thank you! I actually used to hate having curly hair when I was younger because it never cooperated, but once I learned about taking care of it I got more attached.
It's actually back up to waist curly thanks to clarifying for the first time in a long time Saturday. *strangling motions at hair* It eats up eight inches of length in curl. I'm probably not going to look like I'm at Classic until I'm actually halfway down my thighs.
Gorgeous texture! :D And yes, my hair taste-tests my food and plays with fire if it slides out of containment (which happens when I rush to bun before cooking/eating). Slippery hair--bah! But yay for longedness and the (rare to many people) lessons we're learning!
Thank you!
I'm always a little afraid I'm going to catch it on fire when I'm cooking on the stovetop or around candles. It's usually safe if it's up, but cooking with a dangling braid is apparently no longer a good idea.

I've been away for some time, I never posted much to begin with, so I thought I'd use this thread to jump back in on things ;) I'm pretty sure I'd call this waist as my natural waist is just about where my elbows are. This is a heavily bunned, not washed recently, texture brushed out kind of day :) I suppose it looks longer this way :agree:

OMGosh, the hair in this thread is swoonworthy. :heartbeat: I feel honored to be among such company. It's been a while since I checked in here.
I can't believe I made it this far, it doesn't seem that long ago I was trying to make it to APL. I will probably be in this thread for a long while. My ends have finally cried uncle after all the things I've subjected them too. I'll pause the length goals to do some monthly micortrims until my ends thicken up and stop tying themselves together in knots. I have no regrets with all the hair shenanigans but it's time to face the music and deal with it. I might have a regret about not making it to tailbone next year but I remind myself that hip length hair really isn't short to most of the world. :coolblue:
I'll make a better effort to be a bit more active posting here, and post a length shot after the next wash day.

Seraphim I think you are at waist too, with hip not terribly far away. Your hair is silky smooth with a great hemline. :)
Today was wash day, so I took a length shot. Ignore the measuring shirt, it's completely inaccurate. I was too lazy to change the shirt, so I threw a measuring tape over my head. I'm at 30" stretched. Hemline doesn't look too terrible but it was after a deep treatment with heat and I still had to work some serious snarls out of my hair. I'm still committed to trimming for a while. Ignore the faded color. I'm in the midst of letting it fade whilst I figure out what I'm going to do next with it. Anyway length shot as promised. :)

Sterlyn, I can't believe I never thought to use a camera do capture length with a tape measure! Genius! Sorry to hear about your ends; problematic ends are the worst!!!
Anyway, here's my length shot w/ tape measure:
http://i.imgur.com/CDsTHCJ.jpg
I am solidly at 30.5". Had my hair rope braided and bunned at different times throughout the day, but I'm sure that if my length was hanging straight in its normal texture, I'd be at least brushing 31"! My old method of just reaching behind my back to mark on the tape measure with my fingers last yielded 31.5" so....eh. Whatever.
My hair is definitely the longest now that it's ever been in my life. It's actually starting to feel long ever to me! Onwards!

Wow Ellethwyn, so beautiful! Great photo!
It's funny - the sit-down method of calling tailbone is actually *less* accurate for me because I lengthen my tailbone when I sit down. When standing I'm at TBL now but when I'm sitting I'm still a couple inches away. If my hair swept the floor while sitting I'd be at classic standing!!!
We're not all just individual in hair, we're all individual in body type and posture as well ;) :)

Your hair has gotten long, I've always loved your sleek texture, something I don't have I guess :) We started growing out our pixies at about the same time and it doesn't seem that long since I was wondering if I'd ever reach APL. Red and black would be a fun combo.
Samanthaa Love the length shot! Your hair is silky and smooth and looks really healthy :), I know what you mean about your hair feeling long. Mine has never been this length in all my 50+years.
The tape measure trick, couldn't tell you where on here I saw it, but it's a handy trick for seeing where you are unstretched. I was annoyed that my length shirt was so off. I wish I was somewhere close to 34" :)
Ellethwyn You are so close! and I agree with School of Fish your hair is stunning...
Vampyyri :rollin: I haven't had the honor of getting nearly long enough to have to search around to see exactly where my tailbone is. Hopefully sometime next year I'll be back to growing and looking forward to TBL.
I trimmed off probably 3/4" the other day, after nearly 1" last month. I think from here I'll just back off and aim for trimming off my monthly growth, otherwise I'm going to start trimming myself back to waist if I'm not careful.
My angry ends are completely my own making, my hair never really knoted or even tangled much before the perm + clarifying/baking soda scrubs for color. My fine hair has reached it's limit I think. Still I have no regret, I knew what I was risking when I did it, and I had way too much fun with it but now need to deal with the damage. Hopefully I won't be trimming for the next 3 years (all the length that was permed), which would be a worst case scenario and hopefully not the case.

Nope, my tailbone is pretty low if that makes sense  I need 1 inch or so for BCL. I might grow further in 2017, when I'm done maintaining... But it all really depends on my wavyness tbh.

Still kiloooometers to go to approach TBL, though. In the meantime I will have to hit "top of the slip" length, ha ha ha ! Maybe by Christmas ?...

I can get mine up in a nautilus, I just can't do it without pulling. Maybe that's just the awkwardness of the direction of wrapping? The lwb is just so much easier and more natural to my hands. I keep pushing it back on the list of 'buns for which I need another 2 inches'.

Oooooh, I'm liking BBL, aka bellybutton length! You're a lot closer to it than I am; mine must be a bit low. And I've never thought of my username like that! Hahaha! It's a mash of my hair colours--crystal and tawny (using the "ta" in both as a the joiner and an I for Y at the end like my real name does). September 8th, 2016, 07:15 AM
Samanthaa I'd call that a waist+!
I am very happy that I did a bigger chop this spring, but it annoying that I was at hip and then got set back to waist again... The ends from waist+ was sooo thin, so it didn't really look nice. But I miss the length anyway XD lol. I slept with double dutch braids with paranda's in last night, and the end of the braided paranda was almost at hip. I can't wait until my braids are actually that long!!!
I'm not quite sure what will be my end goal now though. If it will be hip, bcl or tbl. It won't be longer than tbl that's for sure, that's just too long for me to deal with.
This is my hair when it was just hitting hip:
http://i1063.photobucket.com/albums/t503/misherusedai/Mobile%20Uploads/image_zps9tmttevi.jpeg
So painfully thin at the ends...
This is right after the trim, I'd straightened it so the hemline looks really uneven when it's that straight, but you can't see it otherwise
http://i1063.photobucket.com/albums/t503/misherusedai/148121EA-C890-4F35-9F7A-1A11990A5635_zpsf5pvjsec.jpg

I'm with you, RebekahE! It's definitely BCL when wet, but only a couple runners seem to just barely reach when dry, and it's been like that all summer. I'm pretty sure I've been having a major growth stall. I had been hoping I'd make TBL before the end of the year, as well, but now I'm just hoping it hurries up and starts growing again!
Either way, I'll have to get a new length shot up soon; my last one was way back in March at WL/HL.

Thanks you all.
I think it started making a "V" because I've been snipping the very ends on one side, and then the other side (brought around over each shoulder, to my front. The V wasn't on purpose.)
Hubby says, however, that my hemline is not quite so pointy as that pic. I think I'm gonna get him to start rounding the tip off, but every time I try to get him to do it, he says it doesn't need it.

Thank you Sarahlab and animetor7!
It's hard to settle on a goal. The longer the better! I just want more hair to catch up, so at some point I'll need to stall and microtrim. I will probably see what happens at classic and decide if I can go on or let shorter hairs catch up. I may not have a stable method, maybe just dust the very end fringe once in a while. But I need to get hubby to help with the back, because I've worked my way to quite a V hemline this way (by going over each shoulder with a small snip here and there).
I will say at least Classic at this point. I have to see what my hair is capable of. I don't mind some fairytales, but I do want some discernible hemline evident, even with the fairytales.

Hi all. I'm popping in here to join for a while. I am at solid hip dry, and just brushing TB when wet/stretched. It's been over a year since my last trim, and I am dealing with some taper and starting to fairytale. Not badly; I am just really able to tell which sections of my hair grow faster than the rest, or at least survives with the least damage. I hope to hit solid TB dry with a couple of (very) small trims by the beginning of next summer, and hopefully heading on to classic before I stop and maintain to let my hemline thicken.
It took me a long time to get past waist...wasn't sure I was going to make it! I pretty much spent the whole summer being so overwhelmingly busy that I didn't think about it, and next thing I know my hair is longer than it has ever been! :disco:

I'm at tailbone now, which is funny because I could almost swear I wasn't before I trimmed today, and it felt like I trimmed an inch. I'm wondering if I should maintain for a while, because I didn't realize how see-through my ends were getting and I'm a little upset.

:puppykisses:Hi everyone. I haven't posted for about 2-3weeks. I haven't measured recently so I have no idea my length right now, just that last time I measured it wasn't quite tailbone and definitely past hip. Sigh........ It seems like my hair is getting shorter but when I brush only long hairs are shed, not little bits from dry end. (shudder)
I was getting weird results with any kind of oiling so I gave that up for awhile. I found a new suave wannabe conditioner that seems to give lots of moisture . now I just wash once every two weeks and I just condition by dipping the ends about one foot length of them into the water and condition that and rinse. If it seems too coated then I wash..... Sometimes I just want to cut it all off. But I know that is just my depression talking. Then after I pass that feeling I am so glad I didn't.
My hair is so thick that it can get difficult to find a decent style when I get headaches. I have RA and when that acts up then It is hard to deal with all the hair. Life seems to get so difficult..... and the JOY comes back and I thank my Lord and Savior for His marvelous creation. At those times the hair I have seems so luxurious. Hair :heartbeatbecomes fun and exciting. I indulge in hair videos on YouTube. I order a couple of hair toys on Amazon and get my daughter to let me play with her hair. She has California blond hair and she is so pretty that it is like having a living doll to play with. She gets touch me not with the hair brush enough that I treasure the hair play times.....She is 11 now (wow)........
well I have been ramblingbut I just wanted to share some bad and some good. My heart goes out to all...:heartbeat

Hi zashin!! Have you checked your ends? It could be time for a microtrim or an S&D because if they're damaged just from being old then they might need to be trimmed of so that they don't break off or split off. Could you braid it in two braid when you get headaches? That might distribute the pressure a bit more, and if you don't like the look you could always put the braids up as Heidi braids if your head could take it. :) I'm sorry that you're struggling sometimes, but glad you are able to find joy and happiness too! Thank you for your ramble!! And from your avatar you have gorgeous hair!!!

Hello all, I am officially joining this thread. Been lurking quite a while and you've all been an inspiration so thank you!
My hair is just a tad past waist and I microtrim every 6 weeks so progress appears slow -- thus you will all continue to be my inspiration. Sarahlabyrinth, you and GG were my first hair idols on LHC.

Hi Cg!! Welcome!! I'm still sitting at hip while waiting for layers to catch up. I want hair that's all one length because although I like the look of layers when my hair is down I rarely wear it down and I think it will be easier to put up without them. Good luck everyone!!!

Congratulations!! I'm sick of not really seeing progress from being at hip, so even though I do wear it up daily, I'm taking it a step further and using protective styles that can last a few days so that all I have to do is oil the ends and not think about it for a while. Hopefully the next time I take it down daily I'll notice some progress!! :)

Aww, I hope you see progress soon. At some point I was using castor oil semi-regularly. It felt like my hair was just always 2-4 inches above BCL and not really moving. Maybe some scalp massage will help encourage growth? Lots of luck to you!

Hi all!
I'm in the same boat as you animeter7. Been hovering around hip length or so while my layers grow out. Feels like I've been at this point a while now!
I'm finding it a hard balance at the moment... I feel like I just keep trimming the same inch or so off the longest bits of my hair every few months but the rest of my hair doesn't seem to catch up! I also think it doesn't help that my hair is so fine - it makes my hair feel thin at the ends even though it may look thick enough when fluffed up. I'm dealing with this by keeping my hair up most of the time so I can't scrutinize the ends so much. Any other tips for staying happy with your hair while growing out layers?
I would eventually like to reach classic length (about 8-9" away at the moment), but feel like I will never get there if I can't be happy with the thickness of my hair as it grows out. Perhaps I should set down the scissors for a while and just let it grow or maybe adopt a set amount to trim every other month. I've just been trimming when I felt my hair was getting too uneven up until this point.

My layers are mostly grown out at this point, I'm just waiting on some bangs, but those are so far away I'm not going to bother to stop growing to let them catch up until I've reached a point where I'm maintaining for other parts of my thickness to travel down. As for tips for staying happy with my hair while growing out layers. I did most of my growing out when I was just starting University and very, very busy. So I didn't have time to be happy or unhappy with my hair, it just went up in a bun and I went to class. That said I think trying out different hairstyles or techniques helps keep my mind off of whatever progress with my hair I feel isn't happening quickly enough. For example, I feel like I've been at hip forever and a day, so rather than measure a ton and get frustrated, recently I've been trying lots of new types of protective buns and figuring out how to incorporate some NW/SO techniques into my routine to help stretch washes. It gives me something else to focus on for a while.

I had the fun experience of sitting on the couch in my pjs and then wondering what in the world was tickling my hip? It was my hair, of course :P
I think I've also hit the point in length where if I leave it down, it mostly stays together behind my back. I am somewhat surprised. When shorter, like at midback length, it just kind of gets everywhere, so I expected longer hair to get everywhere also, just longer. I read that some others had the experience of their hair staying back better the longer it got, and now I get to start experiencing it for myself! I wonder if this is something that depends on hairtype, too.

Have you had success with stretching washes? I have been trying to do this too, but find that my roots get greasy quite quickly. I can really only get away with wearing my hair down for the first day after washing and then it must be up for sure. Maybe I just need to try some new hairstyles as you say. My go-to cinnabun held with a stick, while easy, does get a bit repetitive after a while haha. Never have had much skill with hairstyles. Time to learn I guess :)

Yes I have. I have been stretching my washes since mid-highschool (So about 5-6 years) and wash once a week now. The key for me was not switching right away to the stretched routine but using gentler cleansers to help stretch. For instance when I first started stretching I was washing every day with sulfates, so my first step was to do one day of regular washing then one day of sulfate-free washing. Then every day sulfate free washing. Then sulfate free interspersed with CO, and so on until now I wash once a week with shampoo bars. I use dry shampoo in between washes to help with greasy roots, and am trying to use NW/SO techniques to cut back on dry shampoo use to, and possibly stretch to once in two weeks. But we'll see.
As for hair, I almost always wear my hair up, but that's partly because I get annoyed with it down and it gets more tangles that are annoying to deal with and damage the hair more than is necessary. I also grew up as a dancer, so I've always known a fair number of buns and braids. What really helped though was watching torrinpaige: https://www.youtube.com/user/torrinpaige I swear she's a hair witch!! She knows how to do such beautiful things with her amazing hair!!!
I hope that reply wasn't too long. I tend to babble on about hair or things I've found work because I get excited about sharing them. :)

enting: I have experienced this to a degree. Although I tend to wear my hair over one shoulder if I am wearing it down so that it doesn't get caught on things behind me. I think maybe it is the extra weight as it gets longer helps it to stay together a bit better.

Had an urge yesterday and chopped 2-3 inches. I'm back at hips, but it's pretty much blunt. Still have some side layers that needs to catch up, but they are pretty close to the hemline now! It feels short but I don't have any regrets. :p I love the feeling of blunt ends in comparison with ends that tapers to nothing.

As long as you're happy with it, that's great!!! It's funny to me though since I had a huge chop last January up to BSL in order to cut out some color that I'd put in for fun and I've been trying to grow out enough to be rid of my blunt ends!! They felt nice at first and look better in braids than thinner ends, but they're so hard to tuck up into updos!!!! Grr.

Yes it's a bit harder! But not that much since it is still long, I can make enough loops so they don't pop out and I still have enough taper. :) And yes braids look a billion time better!!

Yup, same here I've also never been quite sure where tailbone is exactly, some say base of spine, some say middle of the backside, so I may just wait until classic to declare a new milestone reached.

The tailbone is the very end of the spin. Sorta halfway down the bumcrack on me XD it's easiest to find if you sit cross legged on the floor for me at least; then it's closest to the skin.

Kuroi: Id call it hip :). I like to wait until most of my hair reaches a certain point until I call it a certain length. I also avoid stretching, because my hair is wavy and it never really looks the length it does when stretched. Guess Im a bit hard on myself haha but then it feels better to see how it really feels and looks long at all times instead of wondering why my supposedly hip length hair is back at waist all of a sudden.

October 3rd, 2016, 11:56 AM
I only stretched it because i still had braid waves. I don't have those shrinkage problems normally with my 1b'ish hair.
Anyway I don't think its really hip length anymore.

Well, if you dont think its hip then why are you asking in the first place? There arent any other marks between hip and tailbone as far as I know so if its not one thing it must be the other right?
Of course I was stating my opinion anyway.

I should add I prefer to take the perspective of the other regarding to my length. It wouldnt make sense to me to call my hair classic length for example and barely have a few hairs down there, or only when stretched because perhaps even if nobody says a thing I bet they would be thinking what the hell am I talking about. Having what seems the bulk of your hair between waist and hip makes /me/ see it and describe it as hip length. Hopefully that explanation works for you :)

If every person who had a V hemline called reaching a marker with the majority of their hair, I'm sure a lot of people would have to change their profiles. I personally have a deep U/kind-of V (not as drastic as my wind-blown signature picture shows), and I'm calling my markers by the end of my hemline.

I hope I didn't accidently offend you. Its fine if you want to wait till you hit your goals unstretched.
I just tried to explain how stretching in case of my hair gives a more accurate measurement. I didn't grab a lot of hair though so it gives the impression of a huge v taper while in really its becoming a soft u shape. while braided it hits hip now instead of waist, like 5 months ago.
It's also fine if you consider everything between waist and tbl, hip and by that definition you're 100% right about me being at hip. I just consider bcl also an in between milestone. I just wondered if I went from hip to bcl in the past months, or if I'm still stuck somewhere in between.

I tend to call markers waaaaay late and I don't even have much shrinkage (people keep telling me I'm already at hip and I just don't see it!). I like to feel solidly at the marker before announcing it, if that makes sense, but I know that that's not how everyone at LHC does it or wants to do it :)
I think it's fine for people to call a marker wherever that marker feels right to them, whether that's stretched/unstretched or longest layer/shortest layer. Me with my straight, one-length hair, I don't have much of an excuse except my inability to comprehend basic anatomy :P BCL is basically hip, right??

Kuroi I love your ombre haircolor with those pants!
I would also call it at can I call this BCL, based on what I can tell of your shape. On you, I'd call hip at where your shirt stops in the center of your back, although your hip bones may be higher, I can't quite tell. If we're calling BCL and TBL different spots, I'd call TBL at where your knuckles are on the hand holding your hair. Based on those, you totally could be just about BCL!

For me a marker is hit when my dry hair reaches a mark, I don't care if it's just technically three millimeters of my longest strand touching it. If it's there it's there, lol! And markers are different on everyone, only I know where the top of my hipbone is since it's visually hidden under fat XD
Well, if you dont think its hip then why are you asking in the first place? There arent any other marks between hip and tailbone as far as I know so if its not one thing it must be the other right?
Of course I was stating my opinion anyway.
There is BCL, butt crack length

Bcl/tbl are very touchy markers, I've noticed! It's like we're actually asking 'does this hair make my butt look big?' :D

Lol, yes I agree it sounds dirty but it is however an "official" length measure right?
For me TBL and BCL are about 8 cms off, waist to tailbone is 28 cms and hip to tailbone 25 cms. For me hip is an overrated measure as you can see it hardly adds any length in CMs nor in feeling. BCL however does show and the measurement difference is substantial enough for me to see it as a different length mark. We all have different anatomies I guess but being in hip land forever with my crazy long lower back I am happily waiting to call BCL ;)

There's gotta be a bone at the butt crack that we can name this body marker after, right? E.g., what's the difference between hip and pelvis? Is sacrum the bone where the butt crack typically starts? (These are serious questions; I don't know the answers haha.)
I agree with you on the overratedness of hip, for my anatomy at least. I guess that's why I'm so hesitant to call "hip"--it doesn't feel much longer than waist (maybe 1" to 1.5" past waist), yet from hip to BCL feels like a mile. Also, before I found LHC, I was in my head referring to BCL as hip (and I still kinda privately refer to it that way).

I think I'm going to call hip once my hair reaches my lower back "dimples" - the very top of my hipbone is maayybbee 2 inches from waist and seems pointless. But the dimples in the back correspond to the front protrusion of my hipbone, so that will be pretty solidly hip and happens to be the halfway mark between Hip and BCL on me :)

My measurements between waist-hip-BCL-TBL is rather short because of my short torso. (WL 28", HL 31", BCL 35", TBL 38") After hip my measurements for hitting markers go up quite a bit since I have a large rumpus and really long legs, along with being 5'9" CL would be 42" about on me, so I have about 7" of butt to cover

I just looked it up and the bone where the bc starts is indeed called sacrum. I guess sacrum length sounds much cooler then bcl.
Wouldn't help in making the lengths sound less confusing though.
Funny how I'm not the only one where the waist and the hip are close together, its about 2" difference for me. The only reason I knew I was at hip and not at waist was my first picture made for tlhc. It was so obvious that I was further then waist already without realising.
It's interesting anyhow how the distances between body can differ so much. For me waist is at 29", hip at 31", I will say that 34" will be proper bcl as I'm still not sure if I can call it bcl now at 33,5", I thought tbl is at 36" but my bf thought it was at 37", we both think classic would be 42". I,m only 164cm tall btw, so it seems my distances are pretty big for my height, I've seen taller people post similar measurements.

just reached belly button after a fearful two months thinking id given myself a short terminal length (if that makes any sense) when i cut off 4 inches of hair back in august, i hadnt seen much growth from waist to top of the hip but i think its due to my long lower torso as this past week ive definitely noticed it getting longer again *phew!* thankfully im not at terminal yet! Onwards to TBL

This is super interesting - I am the same height as kuroi and classic length is 42" on me as well! I just measured yesterday out of curiosity. Waist is 28" and TBL is 36" on me. Admittedly I have a pretty high waist and that 28" is actually to the bottom of my waist indention. I have really short legs, comparatively.

Ya. Thanks.
You're totally right. (Full disclosure: that post was due to hormonal blues. Unfortunately, things aren't as predictable now that I'm older, so it's hard for me to tell what's "real" and what is "hormonal distortion", until after my period starts.) It is better. It's taking a long time, but it's happening. I'll just sit, wait, trim monthly, and have another look at it after the new year. :)

36" long hair still looks 36" whether it's at hip, TB, or wherever. It doesn't look any shorter on a long torso than on a short one. It's just a different body marker.

Ha ha ha that BCL/TMI struggle ! For me it's easy : I'll call it BCL when my hair in the shower starts getting caught in the... ahem... :eyebrows: Lol. I think it is a good way to measure my wavy hair : it means that it will be right at "the top of the valley" when dry.
Well, not there yet, to say the least : for the moment, Moody Mane is in hibernation : it seems that I have been around 80cm since the Ice Age indeed. On the other hand, my whites do grow : look at all these crazy guys !!! Where were they hidding ??? Most of them are around shoulder length !... It means that I started whitening when I turned 50. Oh it is so funny weird ! :eye: :eye: :D

Yes, I know my hair has been growing quite a bit since I am here. I just have to see the pictures !... But it is sometimes hard to be patient when you have a goal, lol. In the past I had no goal. So I wasn't really awaiting anything or paying attention to my length. One day I would just notice my hair has reached such or such length and I would be "oh, my hair has grown !" Now there are monthly checks and LHCers racing to grow their mane out and moving from thread to thread, so I am conscious of my growth speed... or the lack thereof !
It's not a rant, lol. I enjoy this "growing together" thing very much. I had never imagined it would have been fun to grow hair ! :silly:

Beautiful hair!!! I like how the long layers add some movement at the ends!! I'm also jealous you have a good long hair salon near you. Here the salons that claim to be for long hair really mean hair that is shoulder length to BSL and chopped way too much when I last visited them. Self trims it is. :)

When looking at old pictures of my length monthly shots, I came across a photomontage I did when I just hit BSL : I was playing with GIMP and I discovered a tool that allowed to drag down texturized bits of image. So I clicked on my hair... and dragged it down, so I could get an instant hip length view of it ! :D
Now here is the photomontage with a pic of my REAL hip length hair. And what a surprise : my true hair turned out better than my dream ! Lol. I am actually amazed to see that my ends have not thinned out like I expected them to do when I was playing with GIMP. :D :D

I had a trim last week to even up my hem line as it was looking a bit holey, and was really surprised to see that I'm barely grazing hip with my ends. I vacillate between an ultimate goal of tailbone or classic; I'd like to get rid of the bleached ends and grow out my layers. Quit colouring/bleaching two and a half years ago and promised myself that I could consider henna when I got to my goal! Looking forward to growing along with everyone :D

My hair is actually in the no-man's-land between hip and BCL. I don't think I will hit any milestone for Christmas. I still have 2" more to grow to be there when wet, and about 3" when dry. So...
Kind of wondering if I should not trim a little instead : my ends are getting tangly, which I hate. I don't like when I start to oogle fresh ends from other people's posts, ha ha ha !

If its getting tangly a small microtrim should be enough to freshen the ends up before you continue growing further. Saves a lot of frustion and doesn't really pause progress.

Hi kuroi ! :)
I micro-trim every 3-4 months, actually. Or dust every other month, mainly to maintain a regular hemline. It does freshen up the ends but has almost no effect on the tangling. (I hardly have any split ends on my longer hair : unfortunately they are on my super fine slower and more fragile shorter hair). Tangling occurs on the length of the last 10-15 cm, I would say. In the "fairytaling area". Braiding doesn't help : even with super soft hairties it erodes my F/M hair.
Yup, contemplating a bigger trim by the end of the year, like 1 or 2 inches, or cut back to hip. Hip is a nice length to start the year with ! :)

Hmm yeah then its trickier indeed. I assume you already tried clarifying and moisturizing. You can of course try s&d if you got the patience and don't get insane.
Cutting back always stays a possibility but make sure you won't regret it ;)

Thank you kuroi ! It's so nice of you to worry for me ! :puppykisses:
I have had a lot of drastic cuts in my life, and I know how I usually feel : soooo fresh ! Lol. I would regret if I cut really a lot - like cut back to waist or BSL, for example - but here I just plan an inch or two, so it should be ok. I also know how it happens : I start feeling bad with my ends, and one day I am fed up and it means it is really too bad and I MUST cut. I'm not patient enough for micro-trimming when I have damages. Micro-trimming is for me mainly a way to allow my slow hair to catch up so my hemline remains thick as long as possible.
Lol, I already know that I will not be able to wait Christmas to cut !! :nono: ... :scissors: :scissors:

Lol Pixie and kuroi.
I DID IT !!!
Back to hip... But SO FRESH ! :) :) :)
Trimmed about an inch. Not so much in fact, but like this it let me the possibility to cut again an inch at Christmas if I feel like it, and stay at hip to start 2017 on a solid milestone. I know I won't regret it because I'm sure no one will notice except me ! :p
