New length shot. The wind is making it look way more tapered than it actually is. Most of the hair is actually at the longest point. http://i68.tinypic.com/b5jymv.jpg

When I grew from waist to tailbone I noticed it was harder to wear down because it got into everything. However, I wore it in the same kind of bun from waist to classic, so my routine didn't change much (I did start using coconut oil though because I discovered my hair loves it!) I didn't find the transition difficult because it's such a gradual process, you get very used to it. :)

I may be just a bit below waist, took this with my chin down a little, but definitely solidly at waist.

It sure seems so... but it may be because when you're growing out from a short style, you have more "body markers" to reference in length. There's a big gap between waist and hip, then hip to tailbone... but when your hair is growing from shoulder length, it seems like it grows like a weed.
Yes, that sounds right to me. At this length I don't see it all the time either, it's usually braided so it stays out of the way.

I'm on my way to TBL lenght too. Currently at hip with my longest layer, 5" to go. I'm going to maintain there for at least a year to get rid of layers. Luckily my hair grows pretty fast so I might reach TBL in December.

Atira,
Your hair is so lovely !... :crush: I like how the color transitions in a very soft way from silky dark to wild light blond, with no definite line whatsoever. And I am always in awe of your small regular waves, evolving into the most delicate fairytaling pattern ever ! (Plus this fuchsia color top which compliments it so well !! :))

I have experienced a long stall these last months... Too much stress at work, food misdemeanor, exhaustion AGAIN !!... :(
Well, to respect one's body (healthy food) and needs (enough sleep) is sometimes a real struggle. So yes, my hair grows, but it's more in the millimeter range than in the inch range, lol. Here it is, still approaching hip but not yet there. I'll be happy if I can make it at BCL by the end of the year. But I'm happy with my hair shape, though. Apart from some shedding due to all what I have mentioned, my hair still looks pretty nice to me. I have grown about an inch in 3 months (considering 2 micro-trims of about 2 x 0.5 cm).
My hair at end of February and my hair yesterday night :

Thank you kuroi ! :) I'm looking forward to taking my monthly pic to see where I really stand. But I don't feel I am at hip yet at all : I just start feeling at waist, ha ha ha ha ! I think there is always one milestone delay between where I stand and where I feel, lol.

But I guess making pictures and looking at them makes me more aware of my real lenght and not my shorter delusional lenght. Just keep growing and the mind will accept it as hip lenght :P

Yes, I'm on my laptop now and I can see a bit better than on my phone. The longest part of your hemline is definitely hip :) As to whether you can call it now or not, I think it's up to you. Different people on this forum have different opinions. Some people call milestones as soon as they touch them, some people wait until maybe 50% of their hair is there....Some people call them stretched and others will only call them unstretched. Of course if you want more milestones, you could call hip now and 'solidly hip' in 2 months or so.

BCL when wet...I have no idea when I actually reached this; I only noticed last Saturday that my hair seem to be sitting a bit longer than I recalled during my shower. I have no idea where hip is on me, I think I passed it about a 1/2 inch ago. Still 4 inches to TBL so I might still make it before Xmas which will be awesome.
The curls persist in keeping my length somewhere around MBL and hip which is not helping with the measurements.

You might be right...TBL is really challenging for me to figure out since it's a bit less cut-and-dry than APL or waist, and so on. Maybe I should go to the TBL to classic thread and hang out there!

So much amazing hair in this thread! I'm thinking it might be time for another length shot for me, too. Or for a proper measuring. I can't decide what length I am right now. If I look the teensiest bit down, I'm still just past hip and feel like I've barely grown, if at all, in the past 2-3 months. If I look the teensiest bit up, the stretched tips of the longest few hairs just barely reach the tippy-top of BCL and suggest I'm growing well over an inch a month. But there's so little difference in head angle between those two "extremes" that I'm not even sure where "straight ahead" really is... It's starting to drive me crazy, though. Waist and hip are very close for me, so by the time I realized I was waist, I was basically at hip already, but now getting to BCL seems to be taking forever!
At what point did each of you start actually measuring, rather than going mostly based on body markers?

I haven't been on this thread for quite some time. Hair has been up and forgotten about most of the time. Today has been a quiet day and decided to do a length shot since my hair didn't look too bad, to my surprise I'm a bit past hip unstretched. I even trimmed about a 1/2" a week or so ago. Ends aren't as pristine as they used to be before all the hair shenanigans, but I regret nothing :). Hair just needs more babying on the ends and more patients with detangling, ends are definitely more prone to tangling with the damage. Microtrimming every 2-3 months seems to keep things manageable.
Anyway length shot, hands are a bit below where my hipbones start. Color is really faded on the ends and getting muddy. *shrugs when I figure out what colors I want next, I'll touch it up. At the moment have been too busy to think much about it. Washed yesterday, so a little more stretched, but I finally made hip. :p This is all new territory for hair lengths for me, I've never been much longer than BSL in the last 50 years.

Everyone's hair here is so drop dead gorgeous. Sterlyn, I just love your texture and color.
Here's my most recent, I trimmed from just below TBL to just above, 1.25" trim. My new scissors made my hem look pretty good! I can't decide whether to trim a couple more inches in June or leave it alone for a while. TBL is a bother and hip is nice, but BCL (current) is also OK, a good compromise I guess.

Sammiesam LOL you must have been ignoring your hair for a while, you look well past hip by that pic ;). The color and texture of your hair is amazing and a lovely, thick hemline. I am jealous of your hemline, mine is thinning quite a bit the last 3", the microtrimming seems to help, but I think I'll be at doing it a while.
TY WaitedSoLong You've been a hair idol of mine since I first started lurking on the forum, way back when you were hovering around FTL. Your hair is lovely at any length, and you hemline is also amazing. :p.
I wish I could claim the texture as mine, but it is mostly what the perm gave me. My natural texture has some wave but they fell out if you looked at them. I've always wanted that sleek straight hair, or curly and LOL I have the not quite curly and not really straight texture a lot of wavies get. I probably will never perm my hair again as long as I'm keeping it long, it is hard on it, but I'm having fun with it right now. ;)
Browneyedsusan I envy you getting to meet a long haired member in person. I've never been close enough to any of the meet ups to attend. And holy cow your hair has gotten longer since I've last seen it. :)

It's weird to think I am one of other people's hair idol? LOL. It really is not all that great, despite what BrownEyedSusan says. She can attest that I am constantly getting it out of my way and fiddling with it because it gets so tangly so easy.
All my pics are fresh washed/dried looks. An hour later it does not look much like that at all, it goes piecey.
But THANK YOU, you all are so generous with comments :flowers:

I can't decide whether to trim a couple more inches in June or leave it alone for a while. TBL is a bother and hip is nice, but BCL (current) is also OK, a good compromise I guess.
May 13 trim, before and after:

Totally gorgeous perfect slight U-shaped hemline of perfect looking hair !... :thud:

Thanks Mimha! I don't have a goal anymore. I like having a thick hemline and overall healthy shiny hair so I'm just maintaining at around waist to tailbone. Hence, this thread! :D

If I am not too curious, why have you decided to remain above TBL ? Because it is easier to manage ? So what was the thing that you consider a "no more" in having longer hair ?
Lol, just curious to know... because your hair looked really nice and not damaged at all at your longest length !

I am happy with it now, virgin color, practical length while still being long. Not as thick as I would like but nothing I can do about that.
This is the way my hair is too. You're not alone. I will brush it upside down, make sure it is fluffed up and as perfect as I can get it for picture purposes, but then it just goes all piecey and tangled after a while.
Mine is the type of hair that is quite silky and will not hold a curl. I have my daughter's outdoor wedding next week and I feel panicky about my hair. Curling it is almost out of the question, what's the use? Using lots of product to hold the curl is not a good thing either, as it will just look bad in a short time. I'm best off to leave it long and straight and just brush it when needed.
I too am so much happier with virgin hair. I had spent most of my life going against Mother Nature, when in the end I learned that just living with what I was given is what works best.

I am gently approaching hip (my thumbs) ! I'm already there when wet, actually, but I prefer to be solidly there, dry and unstretched, before I officially call it. :)
Here is my hair now. I'm particularly pleased about how healthy it is. I think it has never been so healthy in my life before, to say the truth !... My secret is to minimize the interventions : one diluted soft shampoo a week, very light ACV rinse (I have hard water), no conditioner at all, gentle wide tooth combing (no more BBBrushing : too tough for my F/M hair), a drop of olive or argan oil from time to time, no heat whatsoever, in a bun 75% of the time, and of course the most important : a strict healthy diet to grow strong hair "from inside". I never clarify (no need), and I sleep with my hair loose, just gathered over the pillow, because I noticed that braiding it was causing more taper, in my case. As my 100% virgin hair is not too tangly (up to now), it's it's more comfortable for me like that.
OK folks, you know almost everything !^^

Your hair is beautiful! Clearly your routine is working well. I've just started doing acv rinses and I think it has made my hair a lot shiner - we have very hard water here. Do you use tap water or distiller water for the acv rinse? I read something about using distiller water because then your aren't luring every more hard waters into your hair as a final rinse.

Hi lazuliblue ! :)
I just put 1 or 2 TS of vinegar in one liter of tap water, in order to neutralize the calcareous content that makes it hard. The aim is to get rid of the "limestone" dissolved in the water by neutralizing it with an acidic stuff, not to get an ultra acidic rinse. However, I put much more vinegar (like approx. 5 TS) when I wash my hair with a soap bar : indeed, soap is very alkaline, and if you want to neutralize your hair pH and make it a wee bit acidic (to get the "keratin closure effect") you need to add more vinegar.
If you use distilled water, you would normally not need to add anything, as distilled water is totally deprived of any mineral content. It is the purest water ever (= only contains H2O). I personally don't buy distilled water for several reasons :
1) it's heavy to carry (and I don't have any car)
2) it requires some treatment to be distilled : either by a true distillation (= water is boiled, evaporated and then condensed, which needs a lot of energy and therefore pollution), or by some chemical process of neutralization and filtration (so I can as well do it myself with a few drops of vinegar)
3) it's expensive (if true distilled water by heating process)
4) the water we have in Switzerland is totally drinkable from the tap, so I don't think it will be damageable to my hair
I hope I have answered your question ?! :) (Sorry, English is not my mother tongue^^)

I keep it above TBL because I don't want to sit on it. That kind of damage makes me cringe! IMO waist to tailbone is the easiest to manage especially since I wear my hair down all the time. If it gets any longer, I have to put it up and I don't like that look. Going longer to fingertip got really hard since I couldn't even reach the ends.
Pictures are deceiving! My hair was definitely damaged at my longest, although not a lot because it was contained and protected all the time. But I preferred a thick hem with no damage while maximizing length, than longer hair that felt just okay. I hope that helps! Everyone has their preferences and priorities, and this is my sweet spot.

I completely agree with you. I just finished about 5 minutes ago! Trimming off at least an inch of my hair that had just reached TBL last month. I am loving the thickness of the hemline and I think my detangling will be alot easier a few inches above TBL which is 36-37 inches for me. Plus I think I just trimmed out most of those layers that had been driving me crazy!! I want to wear my hair down, but the uneven/thinning hemline was driving me crazy. Now it feels so thick! Just soaked my fresh ends in some sweet almond oil so I will take a new length shot when hubby comes home. But... I am back on this thread!! ;) Hi again everyone!!! :waving:

It's all a blur now...lol.... but I used the blue clip, then tried Faye's method with hair ties from behind one down my back and again on each low pigtail in front, then brushed that out.. then I used the white creaclip in front to check how that would be, trimmed off a bit more...then used the blue clip again in front to check everything and correct a few pieces.... I reallly don't remember what order I used each technique...lol... only thing I didn't try was the book sliding down since I thot that the hairs wouldnt lie smoothly in there since I couldn't see them... lol...

I still am past hip I think...;) My ultimate goal is still classic, but who the heck knows when/if I will ever get there... but now it's even and I feel proud to wear it down instead of having it all uneven and raggedy. ;) This length does feel alot easier to deal with and brush. I was almost at 37 inches but not sure now. Still have to measure tonight... ;)

Actually, the hemline was still uneven by about a half inch so I made him (lol) slide the white Creaclip down the back and I evened it off so a total of 1.5 inches came off today. But I am really happy with the hemline and plan on wearing more half ups now that the hemline is cleaned up.

Hello LCT. :)
Concerning my trimming method, here it is : I cut my hair so as to get a very slight U-shape by using Feye's method (not too sure it is exactly that :? but anyway) : I gather my hair into a low ponytail, slide the elastic down, and cut what is longer than the elastic. Than I repeat the same technique by separating my hair in two, low-pigtail it both sides and bring the pigtails in front of my body, slide the elastic down and cut again. (Side hair should be shorter than back hair to get the U shape). Then I comb my hair and repeat the all the operations once or twice, until I am satisfied of my hemline.
My "secret" to get this slight volume appearance is to get a very small layering effect by bending my head backward when I slide the elastic down, so the cut will appear slightly "bevelled" once I put my head up again (= the top layer will be slightly shorter than the under-layer).
Well, it's not really easy to explain. I kind of cut a little bit as per my feeling, keeping in mind the 3D volume that I want to get in the end... if this makes any sense for you ! ^^ You have asked me several times how I trimmed y hair, so I guess there is a particular point which is unclear for you ? Tell me if there is a particular question. :)

You're welcome; it is wonderful to have older longhairs to share the journey and hopefully inspire the younger gals
No problem LongCurlyTress, your are most welcome ! In fact, the video from which I was inspired is this one, except that instead of bending my head forward like she does, I bend it backward.

I'm calling "hip"?
It's about 1/2" past the waistband on my pants in the back. (Way shorter if I bring it to the front, but I think that's pretty typical?)
Help a sister out, Friends. Every milestone since APL has felt sketchy. I can't really see back there! lol! (My back is very crooked. Sorry about that. It feels like I'm standing straight! lol!)

Oh my word! My rear end looks crazy lumpy with the shirt pulled over my pants' pocket flaps! I hope I cropped that off when I used it for a signature picture! :justy:

I had to take this one myself, using the timer. (DD19 help with the last one. See how she made the cute "duck tail" out of the ends? It's a shame she didn't mention the bumpely booty. Kids these days! :wigtongue: )

Yours is certainly hip! You give me great hope. Mine was pixie in Jan 2013, so I have a fair idea based on your growth that hip won't be too terribly far off for me.

Nice progress Magalo! I love super straight hair (you always love what you don't have right?)
I've been away for a while for various reasons (the main one not having internet at home for about 6-8 months). Now that I've moved and have reliable internet, I thought I'd check in and share where I am for the moment.
This length shot from May is my most recent one. My hair is super frizzy and fluffy and my ends are not to my liking but this is basically where I am for the moment. My finger is at BCL so I'm probably only about 3-4 inches from TBL. It's always hard to tell when your ends are flippy and you measure unstretched.

So I trimmed an inch and a half back to just above TBL (TBL=38") in May and am now back at TBL (gained a half inch since) and it really is some magic cut-off place for me for manageability. I am wondering if hip (35") is just where I need to maintain. The problem is that hip seems like short hair even though I know it really isn't. But going from 39" to 37.5" in May seemed to make my life so much easier.
The other option is to push past TBL to classic and see if there is another sweet spot I have forgotten about because it has been so long since I have been in that territory.
One of my motives for growing back to Classic or FTL is my favorite hair toy, a TT Tree of Life stick. It is rather large and I need a bit more hair to wear it. I have had it a couple three years and only worn it maybe 3 times because of its weight and length. If I maintain at hip I may as well sell it and it is SO beautiful and they do not make them anymore and I really want to wear it again. Sigh. But of course the other part of me is thinking it is stupid to grow for a hair toy and it is SO much easier to care for hip length hair and I need to think more practically. Errgggbbb.

I measured today for the first time in ages, and I'm back at 32" which is exactly waist. I didn't think I'd gone back so much but at least my hemline is getting closer to what I want. Scissors are away until September, I'm thinking a half inch trim every 3 months will be plenty. Might get to hip by next June!

I bet you will!
My hair's sooo close to tailbone. I'm a little excited, but it's also weird. For so long, this was as long as I though hair could grow, and imagining growing this much was impossible...but my hair still feels like my hair! Every now and then, I'll see a picture from behind and think "wow!" but it doesn't feel crazy to me. Maybe when it's long enough to sit on.

Question for you folks: is TBL where the danger of sitting on your hair begins? Or is it slightly above that?
I'm debating whether I want to stop at hip or aim for BCL/TBL but I really wouldn't want to have to deal with that issue when having my hair down. Just curious what length that usually begins.

It's been a few years, but I seem to recall being more towards classic before I could actually sit on my hair. It seems like at TBL I would've had to tilt my head back and actively tried to actually be able to sit on the ends.
What I will say, though, is that I clearly recall there being quite a time span where the ends brushed the seat, but weren't substantial to get caught under me, even if they were technically long enough. So perhaps that could be your marker; if you notice the ends brushing the seat, call it enough.

How curvy one's rear is may also matter. We scrawnies don't have anything to displace the ends.

Hi everyone! I haven't been here in a while, probably because I've been had a job that requires a lot of manual, physical labour, and plenty of mud, which has been awful to my hair. :( I've basically kept it up continuously and tried to keep it as healthy as possible, but I feel like it's thinned a fair bit. Still growing, though! And now I've quit my job I'm looking forward to lots of hair pampering and hopefully it will get much healthier again. :)
Here's my current length, basically it just reaches to the top of my pants, so almost BCL, I suppose? It's good to be back! :D

What buns do you guys use at this length? I feel like mine's getting long enough to learn some new buns now, but a lot of the ones I'm looking at on youtube are for longer hair, really. I usually do disc buns or braided buns.
pailin
July 8th, 2016, 06:16 AM
I usually do a lazy wrap, because it works pretty predictably for the last 6 months or so. Sometimes I do lace-braided accent braids with it which gives it some variety.
I've recently figured out the L-infinity and Spidermom's bun, but I need a little more practice, and I think they will work better/more predictably with another 2 inches of length (I'm at 32.5 inches- maybe 33 now- and a 3.5 inch circumference, for comparison).
My lazy wrap buns are far more stable than when I first tried them last fall, and now they stay reliably all day, and the braided version stays great for exercise too.
Anya15
July 8th, 2016, 06:42 AM
I can't do any buns unless as a half up because of my thickness and layers :(
samanthaa
July 8th, 2016, 08:57 AM
For buns, I go for the nauilus, the pha, or, recently, the braided cinnabun (if a braided cinnabun is indeed just a braided wrapped around in a spiral and secured). But I don't know too many buns.

So hip. I'm either approaching it or a solid 2" away. The first picture is my hands on the top of my hip bone, and the second picture is my hands at the widest part (the little bony part that juts out at the front lower part of your hips). I have always, always measured hip by the latter...and then I joined here and people were calling the former hip? I think I will wait to call hip until I'm closer to the second picture since that's what feels like "hip" to me, but when exactly did you all call it?
In a similar vein, I was late on calling waist. My hair was past true waist by the time I called it, probably an .5" to 1" past.

I just pop in to officially claim I am at hip too ! Yay ! :)
My moody waves like to play up and down : yesterday after wash my hair was 2 good cm down the line :joy:... and this morning, after one night of air drying and the most incredibly "sproing" waves, almost an inch above ! :ponder: :ponder:
Lol. After a thorough combing session (and some remains of stubbornly shrinking waves), I was juuuuust there. I decided to call it, whatever. In a couple of days, my waves will have loosen and my hair will be below the line again. I haven't taken any picture though. But you can see from my avatar (dating from end of May) that by adding a cm or two it makes it hip with no doubt.
... AND NOW : on my way to TBL !!! :D youhou !! :whip:
A few words on my goals :
TBL is now my next main goal. I love this length. I find it particularly flattering and beautiful. It is already considered very long (for non-LHCers) but it is still short enough not to be too bothering to care for and live with it down on a regular basis. So I will grow there and see how my hair behaves. I know I prefer quality to length, anyway. I will see if I need to maintain there some time, and then I will grow on.
I have been somewhere around classic length several times in my life, but I don't remember exactly how long my hair really was. I knew nothing about hair particular lengths before, and I never had any specific goal to grow my hair. The only thing I remember, concerning body markers, is that one day I noticed that my hair was down to my wrist when my arms were down. And then I remember that I could easily sit on it. I don't think it was ever longer than classic, though. So my second goal is to grow there again and see if my present hair is as nice as it was before (I had lovely ringletting fairytailed ends but my hair was more damaged by harsh shampoo, tough brushing and too much sun). And then, the big adventure will begin : I will be on unknown territory ! :D
My dream would be to grow to fingertips (mid-thigh on me). I suspect my terminal length to be a little further down : around knee (with very thin ends down there). So I will see if my hair remains nice looking or not, and if I have the patience to care for it^^.

Wow, so many claiming hip recently! Congrats Mimha, congrats vampyyri (beautiful and thick!). And congrats eadwine on waist--it looks so soft and I love the waves!
I agree with you on TBL! I love this length as well--between TBL and classic is probably my favorite :). You and I have similar goals (I'd love fingertip, but I doubt my hair would make it there without massive tapering, and I also like quality over quantity), so I wish you luck in your journey! Your hair is beautiful!

I don't have a goal really. Currently I want to get it to tailbone again, and after that has been reached I will get a trim to shape things into a more v like u shape and then keep growing till.. wherever I feel like it I guess. I don't know if I will be able to reach knee length, that will be when I am 50 or so whahaha, and given that my hair WANTS to get that long of course ;)

Oh my. ....yes..... My trouble is wanting to learn all the fancy braid all at the same time and then disappointment when my thick hair doesn't cooperate. Buns too are difficult for me to just put it up and forget it. I'm trying out new hair toys all the time to find what will work with my hair. And like some others it seems to take for every to grow.....sigh:taz::taz:

Finding a proper routine which you can use to benign neglect is a *wonderful* thing to do because you can take care of your hair, but still grow it without you noticing it. If you do this for 6 months, you'll be surprised by the result!! Another thing to do is to focus on quality instead of quantity :)
I've been away from the forum a couple of times so I wouldn't obsess about my hair and tbh, it felt amazing. Because when I came back, I was surprised about how my hair looked!

I consider BCL and TBL to be different lengths on me, so no worries, I'm sticking around in this thread for quite a while longer, but I'm so excited about it just about being at BCL :) Maybe in another month or two it'll solidly be there.
ETA: when dry it is probably still hovering around hip, but hey, what can you do :)

Spirals, twinsies! :hifive:
I may need to retype my hair at some point. If I scrunch it does shrink up more, but if I don't do any scrunching and let it dry straight down my back exactly as I combed it, there's less shrinkage and also much less curl. :hmm: The underlayers are less curly regardless so they always hang a little longer.

I found the same thing when I had more layers. As I've maintained over the last 2-1/2 years and have achieved a blunter and blunter hemline, the very same length has looked (and felt) substantially longer. So BCL on me didn't quite look or feel it until a certain amount of hem thickness had filled out. I've had people tell me my hair has grown so long, when it actually hasn't - in reality it's just that the layers have been traveling down and the hemline has been thickening :)
I think it's looking pretty fabulous!! Love those waves of yours :D

I've been a little uncertain where the line is. It is BCL if I stretch it, I've checked ;) Hip was my original goal last year when I joined, but of course I want to grow longer still..... TMI length, here I come!
But for now, I can trim an inch at the end of this year's no-trimming challenge if I decide I want to (layers to get rid of sometime) and still be at hip.
And sorry, I didn't realize the picture was so huge, I should have shrunk it a bit more.

Also when use measure your HL do you measure both stretched and non-stretched hair?
I'm sorry if these questions have already been asked

July 25th, 2016, 08:49 AM
Hi Krytta, some of us measure stretched, some measure unstretched, and some like to measure both. I like to call milestones unstretched, but I think most of the really curlies call them stretched. Unstretched, some of them find their hair different lengths on different days. Also, mine differ by just a couple of inches, but for some people it's way more than that.
I think it's really a matter of personal preference. And I think maybe it depends on whether your goal length is stretched or unstretched.

I state me goal length as knee because I want it to fall to mid-thigh when dry.

Are you still at 24"? The longer it gets, the more it shrinks. So I'm perpetually at waist dry. I only hit milestones wet. :/
24" is my "starting length", but really I just wrote that down because that was my length the first time I ever measured it with a measuring tape, LHC style. I have 34.5 listed as my current length, since my length was hovering around there a few months ago. I should probably remeasure when it's soaking wet, eh? I only call milestones when stretched, not dry and curly. My underlayers are much straighter and fall out of curls if I so much as fingercomb once, so I get the appearance of not much shrinkage at all, even if my upper layers are still curly and sit higher. It really is like I have a few totally different hair types on my head, separated into zones.
I did find a picture of me from 5 years ago where my hair in a half up after being scrunched a lot when wet came to just below bsl. My hair styled the same way comes down noticeably farther than that now. My hair seems to shrink the same amount no matter how long it gets.
spirals
July 26th, 2016, 09:52 AM
I can't figure out if I have more or less shrinkage as mine gets longer. I *think* I have more shrinkage now because as typical with 3a, the longer it gets, the curlier it gets. 3b, I think, is the opposite: cut it to shoulder or chin and it explodes in curls. Mine goes fairly straight at that length.

I wear my hair down and over a shoulder nowadays. I'm getting more tangles at the nape of my neck than if I just wear it down my back. But so far so good. I maintain between waist and tailbone.
It's great that you've found a length to maintain at. I myself maintain classic length, ever since hitting it September of 2015. I cut back 3 times already. Every 4 months is about right. It feels amazing (to me) to have a "length" that is your own.

This milestone snuck up on me as I thought I had another 1.5" to go according to my initial LHC measurements. I've hit hip! It was only when my family were commenting on my length, and I also found my hemline brushing/catching the band of my clothes, aaaaand I took my monthly length pics (I took a few, and every one of them confirmed it), that I actually realised and accepted it.
I've reassessed my next marker, too. 3" 'til BCL! :D As I'm (hopefully) not trimming for the rest of the year, I may be there sometime in January. Oh, and this is the longest my hair has ever been. :)
Left hand on waist, right hand on hip bone:

It's straaaaaaaaaange, pailin! I wasn't ready for it yet, especially after hanging around waist for over a year while I mucked around with my hemline, and layers, and peekaboo whites, and, and, and... Does it feel weird to you, or are you settled in already and itching for that TMI stage? <<<hehehe, my wording is not the best, hey...

It is straaaaaaaange to think of, even though I didn't hang around at waist, I just kept growing. BSL was the longest my hair had ever been; I figured I wanted at least waist but probably hip, and set that as my goal. And I blew through it in a year! It's bizarre to think of myself as a real longhair, but suddenly I have really long hair by anyone's standards, outside of lhc. Amazing what no-trimming can do.
I'm enjoying thinking of myself as a hipster  but..... Kind of itching to get on to TMI length too.

Nice!!! I feel pulled to do this too from time to time - I have blunt layers I'm growing out and a chop to hip would go a long way toward thickening the ends and having them gone... I don't think I'm quite ready to make the leap yet but I could well see myself doing the chop once the main layer reaches hip.
Your hair is stunning!! :D

Congrats, Crystawni! Wow, it's got so long. :D And ah, your waves are still so lovely.
badslipper, looks fantastic. Such shine.
And well, after my surprise chop yesterday, it seems I belong here again. Back towards tailbone (or at least BCL) I grow.

It looks like you're past hip by a smidge to me, if you go by hip being the top of the hip bone (felt at the front, but measured at the back when put your hands on your hips). :) Beautiful, shiny hair, btw!
I can now tell my hair is getting longer because it's annoying me more, and getting in the way of things I never imagined. Like trying to "roll" with the toilet paper if I'm wearing it loose. Hair, why? You dunwanna go there..! shudder:

This is what I've been noticing- I think I'm on the verge of needing to do some more planning ahead with certain things.....like I'm still leaving it down a lot to sleep (it's often wet still), and I've started to keep something by my bed to quick put it up if I get up in the middle of the night.

I'm hovering around hip length at the ends while curly, just reached BCL stretched. My hair's getting in the way more again (long enough that it falls into my food or once, alarmingly, the stove even when it's braided) so I can definitely tell it's been growing. Time for another learning curve in handling it.
You can't see my hips very well since I took the length photo in a very loose shirt, but:

I cut my hair back two inches a couple weeks back. I was hoping a bit of a trim would thicken up my feathery ends, but it didn't make too much of a difference. So, now I am at "butt crack length". I am not going to worry about my feathery ends anymore(they are healthy and not too uneven). I said that back when I was at hip and it worked out well for awhile. I just can't wait to get my hair to classic... actually past classic so i can do a good size chop back to classic and then hopefully i will have a nice even hemline.
