Wow congrats..your hair seems to have grown super fast..it looks great in that Feb 15 pic..! must look all the more so now ..:)

I'm only 5'2 and I have a very short torso even for my height, so short my ribs almost touch the top of my hip bones when I'm standing. I don't have far to grow between milestones on my middle, which makes it seem like my hair grows a lot faster than it really does. Now my milestones will start to get further apart and I might have to keep myself motivated by tracking how long my braid is so it feels like I'm making more progress. :wigtongue

I have to put my hair up before putting on a belt or it'll get shoved through the loops. I guess that makes me officially at waist length. Wearing it up most of the time and conditioning before and after shampooing has helped a lot. So has doing an occasional deep conditioning. Now it's on to tailbone length! :D

Any thoughts on hair friendly belts? I've noticed that some fabric belts, and the ones made of chain, are definite no-nos.

Finally joining this thread! I wasn't sure whether I was even at waist yet, but Johannah kindly gave me the official seal of hip-length-ness on another thread, so I'm here now. :D

Picture is from the very beginning of September. My hair's quite oily and braid-wavey in this picture, but it's a pretty fair picture of length. I don't get why my hemline's so scraggly and seems to have a longer chunk on the right.

NorthernLorelei, your hair is gorgeous! :flower: I did the same thing at waist, actually. I wasn't sure if I was there or not, and then I posted a length photo, and was told I was almost at hip. Maybe that's in the water.
Your hemline doesn't look uneven to me, at all. It looks like the right is a little straighter, and so it's sticking down a little longer. Either way, your hair is stunning. :heartbeat

Thank you! :blushing: Your thickness and hemline are incredible. Maybe the hip/waist confusion is common because they're such "fuzzy" markers?

That's an interesting theory about the unevenness. I'll definitely take another look/picture when my hair isn't so wavy, even if that's my preferred look for it.

Finally reached BCL! Going for a trim next month at the GM salon, and I am anticipating on losing some length. I'm not happy with how much thinning I have between waist and BCL. New length shot is in my signature.

I was much the same quirkybookworm and NorthernLorelei, my waist/hip is hard to figure out so I had to ask when I thought I was about waist. I think I'll just stop guessing lengths until I'm around BCL, because it seems an easier marker to identify. Maybe I'll even use u conventional markers, like "to my belly button when pulled to the front" (my goal length when I was a little girl!) or maybe "touching the waist of my jeans" lol, those see, easier to decide on.

Well TBL --at 37 inches --will just need to wait a couple of extra months for me...;( I had one inch of a hemline layer that was thin, uneven and driving me bonkers so I trimmed it off today using Faye's method without elastics, just using my straight fingers to pull down each side of hair in front of me... I was at 34.5 with an uneven hemline but now I am back to a solid straight hemline!!! Yay!! at 33.5 inches again. I was hoping to wait to trim until the December winter solstice but did my 1 inch trim a bit sooner. About a year ago, in June 2014, I cut layers into my hair and now I am gradually growing them out. No layers ever again!! :taz:

Ugh. I hate this. I achieved hip not too long ago, and now I'm nowhere near BCL, and can't reach it by the end of the year unless I get some major growth spurts. It's obnoxious because I feel like I'm far, far away from the nearest landmark, which can be disappointing. :/ IDK just needed to complain so I came here lolz

Just gotta find other milestones in between to make the journey feel more eventful. Track how long your braid is, find a pair of striped pyjama shorts or a striped nightdress and track how many stripes your hair covers, see which knuckles your hair reaches when you pull it above your head (especially hair from your nape) and out to the sides. You'll make it, you've just gotta distract yourself from how long it takes by making up new milestones while you wait.

Hip to BCL seemed like forever. I'm finding that BCL to TBL (About a month out, personally), goes by a lot quicker. Use this time to try new buns. At hip you probably have enough length to do others that evaded you at shorter lengths. I've personally had success with the inversion method when I do it on occasion (Gotten an inch and 3/4" in a week the two times I did it), so might be worth a shot if you want to get a little extra growth.

I know what you are saying! It seems like reaching TBL is taking so much longer than other body landmarks. I think many have this trouble due to the fact that the hemline at this length is several years old and damage/splits/fairyknots/increased tangling and shedding start occurring more often. I just trimmed about an inch even though I wasn't scheduled to until late December but the fairy knots and increased shedding moved my trim date forward. I think at some point our hair tells us what it needs to be happy and healthy if we want it to keep growing. Someone once told me (she currently has gorgeous hair that has grown past the floor) that our hair has feelings and knows if we are sad, happy, and lets us know if we have been neglecting it. I know this to be true for me!! Keep on growin'!! We will reach TBL and beyond! :magic:

Still growing strong... But I have had this huge increase in fairy knots lately! I have no idea why, so since I was 6 weeks out from my last microtrim (length only) I decided to do a microtrim of my layers today. I only have layers on the bottom 5 inches of my hair, and am slowly microtriming them out, but I have been getting the fairy knots in the canopy mainly, so maybe it was time to clean them up a bit. I didn't make the shortest one shorter, just the mid lengths (reangled my head upside down at about 6 different angles to get it right, lol) and the length is the same, so hopefully that will solve the problem and keep me on track for my length.

I think I might be having a higher amount of shed hairs lately too, does anyone have any scalp remedies I could try? I've been a little stressed with class lately, and my diet has been a bit sporadic because of it, so I guess that could be a part of it, but any recommendations for things I can try besides addressing those would be so very welcome!

does anyone have any scalp remedies I could try?

I did a few things to try to kick start my regrowth after my huge shed. I don't know which of them worked, or if any of them did, but I'm happy to share anyways! I've done oil treatments (both with a mixture of sweet almond oil, tea tree oil, jojoba oil, castor oil, and rosemary essential oil, and also with just plain argan oil), honey treatments, and also played with yoghurt mixed with a little honey.

The thing with honey is you have to use the raw stuff, or all the benefits will have been processed away. Also you can't really heat it up very much, if at all. Just mix in a touch of warm water to thin it out a little, and you're good to go.

Application was the same with all treatments, work it in to the scalp, wrap your hair in some type of plastic, whether it's a plastic grocery bag or saran wrap, wrap over that with a towel, and let it sit for 30 minutes till as long as you want. Then wash it out, and wash your hair as you normally would.

As I said, I'm not sure if my regrowth can be attributed to any or all of these treatments, but I've noticed that I definitely have regrowth.

Good Luck!

I've been getting soo many more split ends lately so today I decided to go ahead and cut some extra hair off. I already microtrim monthly but I took off a whole inch to combat these darn splits. I'll be trying to isolate the cause in the meantime though. I think it could be these scissors or the glycerin I added to my homemade leave-in but I won't be positive until I've done some experimenting. I'm just glad I'm not the only one whose hair has been telling them to cut more off for the sake of long-term health.

kganihanova- I love your hair color! Very pretty :D

I'm just joining this thread now since I reached waist :D:D:D
http://i58.tinypic.com/vglgcz.jpg
I bought myself a Madora comb as a reward (lol at the self enabling, I wanted one of these forever)- since waist was my first goal before I joined LHC and when I first found it. It came overnight which surprised and delighted me- and I love it!!

I think one thing I am going to start doing again now that I'm at waist which I've neglected since about BSL is giving myself regular scalp massages to clear it up and stimulate the blood follicles. I think I'll do it with some light oil every time before my wash day shower. I'm thinking of getting one of the nightblooming blends to try them- maybe the hinoki growth blend. I've never tried any of her products but I hear great things and the ingredients speak for themselves.

Super glad to be joining a new thread!!! Very exiting to look back through photos and know that's where I'll be when I graduate.

I lost you guys for a while and only just found the site again!
I agree that TBL feels like forever but I thought the same about waist.

I got bored over the weekend and had my ends died purple. It looks much longer with a dark colour than it does when blonde, to be honest I'm losing momentum on growing and planning to enjoy my hair a bit more and just let it grow out slowly with more trims so I don't have to be as militant about damage as I have been.

It's so good to be back! I missed you lot. 😄

Your hair is looking great LauraLongLocks and Five of Five! FireFromWithin, those purple ends sound fantastic. That's something I've always wanted to do but never got around to!

I measured my hair today and it looks like I grew quite a bit since my last length shot. It also looks like I've finally reached TBL, so I'll be graduating from this thread. So exiting! Happy growing everyone!

Thanks, five of five! You have great hair yourself, I'm kind of jealous seeing your hemline ;)

I'm not past hip though, that's just the angle of the pic which suggests that. In fact I do have reached hip while standing upright and pulling the hair straight, but when my hair has a wavier day I'm even still slightly above it. But another inch will do the trick.

And it's really crazy. Seeing my picture there I'm thinking 'yep, it is kind of long' but in everyday life it just feels so short! :o

I'm getting closer to BCL! By Christmas!

I'm less than half an inch away but then I'm planning to trim a half inch at the end of the month anyway so I'll get there around Hallowe'en. It feels almost like I'm sabotaging my goals but these layers are too much fuss and not enough reward for my taste.

Regardless, we'll get there!

To answer a question... my natural hair has some red tones in it when the sun bleaches it out, but I helped it along a bit with some henna. In case anyone in this thread missed the other thread with the sunset light on my hair, here it is. I love what morning or evening sunlight does to my color.

I'm sorry for the double post, but after seeing such beautiful locks I almost forgotten that I too belong to this thread.

For long time I had layered hair, when I decided to really grow my hair I also decided to straight it and it's been some years but in the last year I finally got it. In addition I've reached tailbone in August, but since it was much damaged I decided to cut about 4 cm and here I am again.

That color is out of this world, I love it! I'm actually not surprised people ask if its natural, it's a gorgeous red and not common, but is still within the "natural redhead" spectrum. It's basically the color I always hope my hair will be if I ever feel adventurous enough to give into my henna urge. Great length progress, you're getting close to your goal!

ReneeG Looking through your photos I think you're right. That's almost exactly what mine looked like at the shorter lengths. Hip is where I feel like my hair really starts to look its best - I think the stretched out wave patterns the extra length to really shine. I still have some sun-in damage in the lower half of my hair, but I'm refusing to trim shorter than hip. I'm really excited to get to BCL and maintain, haha.

Yeah me too. I hate when I go to take a length pic and my ends flip up. Actually, I used to want 1a really bad, LHC has done wonders for me helping me get over this and appreciate my texture more, but still I have moments and I think I'd still trade given the chance >_>

I'm like an inch off of tailbone and it seems like it's taking ages. Bah.

I think it has to do with the body curves or something. I mean the two most curved parts is BSL and the whole butt. It may seem that we need a certain length to get there but it may actually need more

So before it was massive and then it was tiny and now it's big again... I'm bad at this, I'm sorry.

I totally get that feeling, too! I feel like I've been at waist forever but just yesterday my boyfriend told me that I reached hip quite a while ago.
I was thinking about getting a trim (no more than 1 cm) when my boyfriend asked if I had a lot of split ends. When I told him I didn't, he asked me why I wanted to trim, then. Well, guess I'm not trimming this month.

Soooooo...... Two weeks ago i actually took my hair out of my bun and did something with it. I wasntraveling out of state for cool business stuff and decided to straighten and trim.

I have reached BCL! THE GREAT DIVIDE! Lol

I was quite surprised!
And even after a trim!
I also found i must now pick up my hair when going to the toilet as it touches the toilet seat. How exiting! I was very happy my hair touches the toilet.
It also touches my thighs when im sitting down! I keep thinking there was a bug on me.
This is soooo cool! Shame i dont get to feel this length often at all.

My natural texture is just past waist. The curls..... But they're cute.
My 3 days in a bun texture is right at hip. I have this texture 75% of the time since my hair goes up as soon as its dry.

But it is still very cool to see the complete unshrunk length of my hair. It had been 6 months since i last straightened and trimmed. And it was long then, but not long enough to be touching stuff. Ya know what i mean?

It sooo cool when hair is touching things that hair normally does not touch on an average person.

Not tailbone length yet thou..... I think.... My tailbone is just bout 1 inch past BCL... So most definately by December. Which is good.
I'll be having a baby by the end of December... Maybe early January. Huzzah!

Then i must hide my hair..... Not hard since i do that anyways... But might have to give my hair sticks a rest and go for clips... Lots of them... Maybe.... We shall see...

Cant wait. ;)

Arete Congrats and I'm so jealous of your pictures! They're so pretty and creative, hair in nature pictures are always so beautiful!

In other news, my hair grew half an inch from the inversion method! :) After trimming an inch, I was at 34.5" and now I'm back to 35". Hopefully if I keep doing the inversion method once a month, I'll make BCL by Christmas/the winter solstice because I feel like I've been stuck at this general length for months with no results even though measuring proves me wrong. I blame it on the microtrimming lol but at least my ends are nice even if I want to remove more taper still. I'm considering only trimming quarterly next year instead of monthly but I'm undecided so we'll see how that goes.

Thank you wilderwein, Hatsumomo, dancinggrain, alishaxmarie, Nique, cat11! I'm very excited to be moving into yet even more uncharted territory :D I should hit classic sometime between next July-November depending on how fast my hair decides to grow. My growth rate never seems to be consistent. I'm starting to feel like a real longhair now that I'm graduating from this thread. *wipes away single tear*
For now though, I will think happy thoughts, and my plans to purchase my first TT in the next few weeks coincide perfectly with the new milestone. It shall be my TBL TT!

I MADE TBL! WHOOOOOOOOOOT! :happydance:

I like the mismatched PJ's dancinggrain ;)

Arete, I actually gasped when I saw those photos! Your hair is everything I want mine to be, haha. Alas, those beautiful waves are not in my future, unless I break the perms out.

This is the same photo I posted in my intro thread, taken this afternoon:

The longest bits are just waist length when stretched, so I guess this thread will be my camping grounds for the next year, by my estimation! My hair's never been much longer than this so, while I don't think it's reached terminal length yet, it's all uncharted territory from here onwards. Let's see where it leads!

McQuarry- your hair looks gorgeous! I don't think you are at terminal length yet. Be patient, keep growing. My own hair is so close to tailbone, but not quite! I feel like tipping my head back and saying, 'OK, I'm there!' :)

Thank you! It's my pride and joy, I'm so vain about it. And yes, I hope I'm not! I feel like there would be more shedding if nothing was growing anymore. Nobody else in my family has ever grown their hair longer than tailbone length, though, so I'm a pioneer! And re: head-tipping - I know that feel. Know it well.

It's so exciting that you'll be the hair pioneer of your family, and TBL is closer than you think. I went from MBL to TBL in about two years, and I don't have a very fast growth rate. Have fun growing. So many cool buns are possible at waist+.

My husband and I have decided to get a divorce. I'm 18 weeks pregnant with my 13th (his 12th) child. Not only would I not be doing such activities for his pleasure due to his treatment of me of late, but in all practical aspects, even when things were good for us, his premature over-excitement made it quite distasteful for me (pun intended), so I never did it. Sorry for the TMI. I'm just really angry at him right now for many reasons and don't mind telling a few strangers on the internet about his dysfunction.

Whatever makes you feel better. Kudos for you for letting go of someone who doesn't treat you right, I know after having kids and a marriage it's hard for people to make the decision to split and to change and unsettle themselves. I hope you find someone who will treat you right (that lovely mane should help you catch a man) <3 OR that you enjoy some nice alone\family time with your kids without him around. Thank you all for the thoughts and prayers. I have been struggling most of this year. I think going to school the last year, and doing well gave me just enough self-confidence to wake up and realize that I haven't been happy for a very long time. The relationship is emotionally abusive and controlling. I've been on a roller coaster with my feelings. Sometimes there are moments that the man that I fell in love with shines through and I feel love for him, and other times I feel hurt and used, and sometimes I feel absolutely nothing at all. Twenty years, 12 kids together. If I think back there were many times I wanted to leave but didn't because I felt trapped and didn't think I could make it on my own. So, I never entertained the thought seriously, until recently.

The decision to divorce is a mutual one. We are going to do a birdnest arrangement so that our kids don't have to schlep back and forth between parents. We, the parents, will take turns living in the house. We have a guesthouse in our backyard and will trade time living in it or the house, for now. Eventually, I hope to remarry, and we've talked about alternate plans and arrangements when/if either party gets married again. We are going to spend the upcoming holiday season together, as a married couple, and file for divorce early next year. Right now we are being mostly amicable. I was really angry at him for not respecting my sexual boundaries when I posted that comment, and I regret it somewhat. His over-excitement is personal and private and I shouldn't have embarrassed him, even to people who will never meet him. Besides, I can't help that I'm so damned beautiful that his reaction is so overwhelming. :run:

Anyway, thanks for the support. I can't tell you how much I appreciate it.

Well, if I wanted to show specifically the length I'd probably put on a long shirt and tuck it under a pair of pants (sweatpants, pyjamas, whatever) that I could set the waistband at bcl. Though, I'm sure none of us are gonna argue too much if you just post a picture and say "I hit BCL" if it's in the right area.

I just either take a picture and say, hey I hit this milestone, like the picture I took recently because my hair just hit the top of my hips on the side. Or I try to put my hand at the milestone, I have trouble holding my phone steady for that though. You don't have to get naked or anything. We believe you I promise.

LLL I'm so sorry to hear you have felt abused. You are such a sweet and helpful person on here and I hate to hear that anyone has treated you less than respectfully. I'm really glad you found your confidence though and I hope you can continue your schooling and have a better life without the burden of abuse. My mom was lucky enough to find true love and partnership with her second husband and I hope the same for you if you desire to remarry.

Hey, I actually took a photo of my hair. I should get a better one in the sun sometime. I'm not sure if you can tell how long it is since I don't have much of a waist due to baby bumb (due thurs :O). After not being able to wear my hair down all summer because of hormones making me hot and sweaty all the time, I was surprised one day while washing when I noticed it is almost to tailbone. Admittedly very damaged, but I'm loving having thinner hair like I always wanted.

Yes! That is exactly what they are. I love putting my hair in a bun at night and waking up to spirals. :) I'm thinking of doing 2 sections instead of 1 for tighter curls but don't want to use an elastic, so I'll have to figure that out.

Alex Lou there are many methods for doing sectioned buns without hai ties, but I made up something called the frame bun that works well for that. Take hair in your hand like a pony and then split it in two, using the index finger from the pony holding hand to sperate them. then take one half and twist it, then wrap it up and over your hand and then around the base in a circle until the end s run out. then stick a stick in the loop around your hand and secure it thru the bun. then take the second section and twist it then coil it around the bigger bun and pin. you could also braid it or rope braid it for tighter waves.

I really don't know how long would it be for me this time to grow back to my goal of FTL, as I have never really monitored my growth. That's why I've decided not to join any groups like "classic by Christmas " . I don't want to feel it's a race and be more stressed if I fail  My hair measured 88 cm on Oct. 17th this year, next measure is due in 4 months. I'm so excited about the journey :cheer:

I haven't even paid attention to my hair since August and my hair leapt from 34" to 35.5" pretty fast.
Still not a ton of taper yet, but I do plan on doing a blunt hemline sometime early next year, I think, since I like a thicker hemline.

If you do just about any kind of stick bun and hold it with a stick for the initial structure, then put three spin pins in like the sides of a triangle inside the bun/around the stick (the hidden-triangle is my #1 recommended way to fasten nearly any bun with spin pins) then the bun holds pretty solidly and without the danger of a stick slipping out in the middle of the night. I've also used a spin pin to secure each of the outer sections of a sectioned bun, for holding down heidi braids and a crown braid tail, I use them all over the place because one spin pin is as good as half a dozen bobby pins if your hair's thick enough to hide them.

I would not have thought to set up the bun with sticks and then switch to spin pins. Sounds like something I can do. I'm a spin pin addict.

I'm back :/

Got it trimmed back to BCL at the GM salon because it was basically trailing ends past there.

It looks so much better though, and I've got nice solid ends to grow, so that's a plus.

Missblueeyes congrats on hip!!! Growing out the dye takes awhile, but it's worth it and it only gets better with time. There are those envious of your dye growth progress with an inch at root... Ill bet the more brown color will really make your blue eyes pop :)

@Mimha: Thank you! That's true, I haven't been posting a lot but that's mostly because I've been experimenting with haircare and my hair looked horrendous for the past two months. I've gone back to what works this month. :)
@wilderwein: Aww, thanks! I know, right! It's crazy! But I guess that happens when your hair grows without cutting it, like the virgin growth does right now. The bottom demarcation line of virgin growth that starts at the back of my head must be at CBL by now. :) It looks really funny when I do braids.
@cat11: Thank you. :) It does take a while indeed. It's been almost 1 1/2 years for me now and I know what it's like to be jealous of those who are ahead - I used to be one of them. Well, I guess I still am when I look of people who've been growing out their natural colour for 2 or even 3 years. It does get better, though! I wish my hair was that dark in real life and not just in pictures. It's actually a verrrrrry dark blonde that looks darker against the bleached ends. :)

Probably even longer, somewhere between shoulder and armpit length! Next year you'll have exactly half of your hair to be virgin!!!

Whatever color it is I'm sure it's flattering. People look good in their natural color. I wish I could show you pics of how my dye has grown out but honestly its really hard to tell in most pics that there's even a line since I tried to match my roots before I started. But I have about 3-4 inches left to go. A year really does a lot of difference especially the more you trim. I agree with wilderwein you probably will have grown it out to apl next year.

Just in the past couple weeks I hit my 2 years without cutting anniversary. I decided to straighten my hair to see how the ends have grown. I am going with ‘not too uneven’ since I cant even get it to lay straight when straight! lol (I do have more layers on the left side of the photo because of the part in the front.)

I tried to guess last minute where TBL is for the photo, but after checking it out more throughly in the privacy of our bathroom later, I think my knuckles more accurately show my next goal.

I also am sure of where my measuring tape got put (I have a 2yo with grabby hands who likes to wander and set things down so you can never find them) but if I am growing a 1/2" a month, I should be at 37.25"

I just wanted to share some progress-- I had my last trim to just below BSL last February. I was coming out of a major shed following a medical event, but my breakage and shedding finally tapered off by mid summer and I'm back to my regular growth rate which is a bit on the high side. Hoorah! Made it to waist by mid-September, and already I'm brushing hip as of Nov 1. I sill can't find my cloth tape measure though, and I really don't trust my metal one I've been using, as it somehow has been getting the same 32.5" measurement for several months... very suspicious indeed.

I feel like my hair is not growing at all. I've been practicing benign neglect for months now because life has gotten really crazy here. Still, it doesn't feel any longer, doesn't seem any longer, doesn't look any longer to me. I also feel like I need to trim it. I've gone 8 months since my last trim. It's looking a bit shaggy at the ends and splitty. I haven't had any time to devote to S&D or deep conditioning. Just go, go, go. I don't want to trim it until after I'm past BCL because I feel like I will NEVER reach BCL. I reached hip length in May 2014 and I still haven't made it to the next body marker. I feel like I'll never make it. Someone give me a pep talk, because my whole life is going to heck right now and I would at least like to think that my hair is awesome and I have at least one thing going for me. Thanks in advance, and sorry for the whining.

LauraLongLocks, I'm a new member here but I've been a LONG time LHC lurker (I'm talking years) so in that time not only have I learned so much about how to care for my hair properly for my type, but I've also followed the struggles and successes of many people here and silently taken inspiration from them and championed their successes. You're one of those people :)

You and I are pretty much hair twins, right down to the current length. Like you, I've been microtrimming my way to hem thickness while working on gaining length, and like you have experienced both satisfaction and frustration along the way. You would have no way of knowing this, but your tenacity in pursuing your hair goals has been a major inspiration to me, and every achievement you've made has made me feel happy for you, and helped reassure me that I can get there too :)

This hair thing is a long game for sure, and successes are incremental, which can make them hard to see when you're living them - but from the outside they are very visible! I think sometimes the hardest part of any journey is the one where you can see the destination but you can't touch it yet, and that's disheartening. But trust me, you're almost there, it's within not only sight but within grasp, even if it doesn't feel like it :)

For what it's worth, I recently decided, when I was within sight of my own goal of TBL, to cut back a larger amount for the sake of improvement in the ends. This was back in August, just before I joined LHC. I had been microtrimming a touch less than my monthly growth for close to 2 years, and was really feeling itchy to just be at goal already. However, even though I had reached BCL (36" on me), it didn't look like I had - thinnish ends and a U hem made it look hip-length, and I was finding that really demoralizing after such a long time already put in. It made me feel like I was still years away from where I wanted to be. So I decided to see if a blunter hemline would make me feel better - I chopped off 1-1/2", because I felt that 3 months' growth wasn't too big a setback. Even if I was disappointed in the result, 3 months isn't long to recover.

Am I ever glad I did! Not only did my ends behave considerably better, my hair actually looked NO shorter for having been cut, since the visual length previously had been somewhere below hip anyway. Since then I've just been barely dusting my ends each month, and I'm on course to regain my 36" by the end of the year. I still have about 2 years' worth of damaged/previously layered ends to grow out, but the 1-1/2 inches has made such a difference to the overall effect that I feel like I've regained the patience necessary to stay the course.

But actually I gained more than that - that little chop gave me a new strategy for my trims and my progress... I learned that the incremental improvements, for me, wear me down after a while, that I crave an occasional boost of immediate gratification along the way to keep me going. I learned that setting 3 month mini-goals for myself keeps me sane in a game that takes years. I even learned that TBL is NOT actually where I want to land - that BCL with a full blunt hemline is actually my happier length.

So my strategy has changed - going forward I'm dusting for 2 months, then trimming on the 3rd month - possibly as much as an inch. This is keeping me growing at the same rate, but giving me a more tangible feeling of success every time I chop that quarterly inch - I can see the success a bit more as if looking at it with outside eyes. It really helps me get through the times when it feels the journey will never end.

And these little lessons I've learned that have helped make this journey enjoyable again for me have in large part come from you, from watching you weigh your decisions of growth vs hem thickness, tracking your progress as you've ticked off the milestones, sharing your successes and disappointments as you go, and witnessing your support of so many others here who have worked through their own struggles.

So I want to say thank you for being that inspiration, and let you know that I won't be silent in toasting your success when - not if - when you get there. You will get there! :D

It has most definitely grown! And yes it's so hard to see your own growth that you live with all the time, but trust me the outside world sees it and admires it.

The thing I forgot to say in that treatise I wrote is while you may be still shy of where you want to be, where you are is spectacular. You have a most impressive head of hair exactly as it is. It's just a matter of time before you reach your length goal, and you're really very close indeed. And in the meantime your hair is amazing already because of all the energy and care you've poured into it along the way :)

I made it to hip! I have pictures but I have no idea how to post pictures... Otherwise though I'm feeling a little surprised, my hair has been recovering from this that or the other as far as growth/breakage/ setbacks for so long. I think I'm finally ramped up to my healthy growth rate, and its showing. I was at waist mid September. Before that I lingered at BSL for over a year because of the aforementioned sheds and breakage issues.

I was wondering the same when I joined. Waist to TBL is way too many milestones in one thread
On the other hand there is classic to knee. Wich it also may get frustating, couse it takes at least in the best case, about two years to get there.

I took an almost mid quarter length check pic today. Its right before I washed it so it has that wird stretched out I have been in buns for a week look. Hip is where my shirt ends and tb is about where the pic cuts off. My goal is to make tailbone by the end of 2016. I think i can do it...

http://i64.tinypic.com/15oz8t5.jpg

Quietly reached hip. Pictures eventually. :couch:

PS: LLL, your hair is amazing and I learned how to do a LWB and disc bun because of your awesome tutorials!

Laura, don't despair! You'll get there, I'm sure. If not now, then in a few months' time. But there is still about a month to go, and maybe you'll get a growth spurt. Wouldn't that be great to reach that goal this year!

Thanks, everyone!

I really hope to make it to BCL by Christmas, Lapushka. That is my most important hair goal this year.

The only trim I had was in March, and I lost an inch at that time, so it's not like I've been trim-happy. Next time I wash I should blow it dry so that it'll be more like 1a/b instead of 1c and then I should pull out the measuring tape and see if it grew since the last time I measured.

Seems like I reached my original hair length goal of waist a little while ago without really noticing. I don't often look at my hair from behind. It doesn't seem long to me at all so I think I'm moving on to join you all here in growing to tailbone. I'm not sure how long it will take me to get there since I think I'll stick around in this range for a bit while my layers grow out a bit more. Or do you think I should just keep growing it with minimal trims? Here's a photo taken earlier today. My most recent trim was last week and I took about 2-3cm off the length. My hand is resting on my hip bone.

I was wondering the same when I joined. Waist to TBL is way too many milestones in one thread
On the other hand there is classic to knee. Wich it also may get frustating, couse it takes at least in the best case, about two years to get there.

That's right, I feel like I've passed waist and hip ages ago, but I've been in this in-between place for way too long

First of all I'd like to say I've been on the forums for a while now and I really like the community, everyone is so positive and helpful and a HUGE inspiration for me so I decided to start growing my hair. :D Shouldn't be that hard since I like the length my hair is at now, but why not go all the way while I can? xD So for now I'd say my goal is classic length, then I'll see what I'll do, whether I'll let it grow even longer, maintain or cut it.

But for now, my first stop needs to be waist to tailbone thread as I'm waist length now (or so I thought before looking at the picture, it seems my hair is about an inch or so longer o.o). Sorry for the blurry photo :(

I'm definitely going for tailbone though... for now. I might feel like I want it even longer, so I'd rather not decide on a final goal yet. :D

Hmmm, I guess I'm about 4 inches away from tailbone. I estimate it's +/- 7 months of growth.

On me, TBL is half way between BCL and CL. Now I'm about an inch from BCL and 8" from CL. I estimated the position of tailbone, I can't really feel it.

I feel like my hair has just had a growth spurt, which of course it hasn't, I've just been noticing it's length lately. I'm starting to feel like an actual long-hair, instead of just someone who has "long" hair. I'm *just* at 36", below hip for sure, but not at bcl yet. I've got about 3 more inches (maybe 6 months) to go before I hit that milestone. I should definitely hit tailbone by next christmas, for sure. So long as nothing tragic happens, I'll be on track. One of these days, I'll take the time to figure out how to post photos and show you all my hair, but until then, I guess just imagine it! Lol!

I have this benefit of having all my strategic markers quite short and regular distance from each other. In my album is a photo illustrating the point ;) but again, my growth is not
fast at all :(

Thanks Ingrid, laura, and Calypso. It's actually kinda damaged from white dots and the occasional crazy split end.

I do like the UU shape. Add much as I love the blunt hem, which emphasizes the thickness, I think U is better for tucking into buns and things. To me is not a dramatic difference as long as everything is neat.

I've been very lax in my length pictures this year, mostly because whenever I get the urge to I'm always wearing dark clothes and I'm too lazy to change into something light just so my hair will show up in the mirror. :wigtongue

Ahahahahahah I have the exact opposite problem. I usually wear white clothes, when the urge comes and my hair is pretty much invisible with light clothing.

From chin/nape to shoulder, shoulder to APL, APL to midback/BSL, BSL to waist, you're not usually looking at more than 4 inches from one to the next, or if you do then you've probably got shorter milestones elsewhere to make up for it. Waist to tailbone you're passing hip and BCL before you get there. Even on my short torso it's an 8 inch difference, and my torso is almost unnaturally short.

tl;dr this was a very poorly thought out category/split between milestones. XD

I'm at waist+, and agree that this is a loooong stretch of time.

It seemed like I was BSL, forever too. The markers on my face, growing from a pixie went fairly quickly; and it isn't far from chin to shoulder, shoulder to APL, and APL to BSL. BSL to waist on me is farther. Waist to TBL is a long way, and I'm going to have to trim sometimes to keep my hemline nice and remove a few splits. :)

ETA: My current siggy hemline looks pretty scraggly, but it isn't that bad. Really! --It's hard to take a pic of your own back!-- :)

waist to tailbone is a long way. thats why im going to hip, first, then tailbone. There are milestones in between. From waist to hip is like 4 inches on me. Then another 2-3 for tail bone. Im really hoping to be at tailbone at the end of 2016.... that would be amazing.

I am half an inch from tailbone right now. Maybe.... I might actually be jus on tailbone. Well hair is long enough to get caught on pants waist. And a bit past bcl... But i have not measured yet.

Does not matter. I will be maintaining at tailbone for some time. About to have a baby this december. So i am anticipating post partum shed. Will probably just wear my hair up for the first six months or so, then trim to tailbone. Then depending on how thin it got i might maintain and let longer hairs catch up. Or i might head on to classic. Either way... I will be at the exit door for this thread for a bit longer.

I have layers though so maybe i should measure my hair from the hairline at the neck and not from forehead?

If you're measuring for the longest parts in the back, the most consistent way is and always will be from the front hairline, no matter if you have layers or curls or anything else going on in your hair. You can't see the back of your neck easily to place the tape measure, the same way you can't always guarantee you'll pull the exact same strand of hair from atop your head to measure, and going by feel isn't always accurate. That's why someone (and bless whoever that was) figured out measuring from the front hairline, because you can look in a mirror and center the measuring tape against your nose (or widow's peak, or a freckle or scar or whatever) and be absolutely sure that as long as your hairline isn't receding, you're measuring the same length from the same spot every time you measure.

Why would it be cheating anyway? Your longest section is still how long your hair looks. :blossom: Besides, even layered hair doesn't mean that every strand is the same length.

bunneh.
November 19th, 2015, 06:42 AM
That's true, it would probably be hard to find the longest hair and measure it from root to the end lol...
