I hit waist not too long ago so I'm finally joining you. :)
Here's my hair so far:

The hemline looks a little wonky on this picture because my hair was in bunwaves and a little unruly.
I'm blessed with a short torso and long legs, which means I got to my other milestones quicker, but I think this one will take a while. ^^°
I also told myself to maintain for some time once I get to hip so I'll get rid of at least some of the bleach damage before growing further.

Come on baby, we're almost to BCL, you can do it, I believe in you, sweetie... :p
At BCL stretched, less than an inch on 6th/7th day hair, and 2.5" when my hair is all wurly. I wanna update my siggy so bad and call BCL, but I feel a moral obligation not to until I'm BCL pre-wash day. At full wurlies.... It's so hard to get an accurate measurement, so I'm not going to wait that long :p
So come on hair! grow Grow, GROW! :patrol:

You're trimming out layers aren't you? That two inches may have saved you time in getting them out.
I agree. I will be glad to get rid of these terrible layers once and for all. Its just discouraging because I have been around waist for forever and now I'm slightly above waist. It was also a surprise since I was at the George Michael salon and they're known for being careful about cutting and she said she would only do an inch. She did at least two inches, which I didn't expect. It will grow back, but I'm switching up my microtrimming schedule some to compensate for it.
Thanks Johanna and LLL -- I'll be okay with it, but I doubt I'll chance any salon visits (George Michael or otherwise) again before my wedding. I want to have long hair for it!

Little update from me... I have been trimming 1 inch a month since about August, trying to speed up the process of removing my layers and old damage. So far it seems like my hair isn't getting any shorter, so I think my growth rate must be higher than the average 1/2 inch per month!
I wore my hair down for the first time all year on New Years' eve and I felt very conscious of it all night. Partly in a good way, but mostly feeling uncomfortable. I think I have just become so unaccustomed to having my hair down that I don't know how to handle it anymore. I can only hope that once the damage is gone I'll be less self-conscious about it becoming a poof-ball and will be able to enjoy wearing it down.
This is my December length picture, with French braid waves. :)

Thank you all for your sweet comments, it makes me very happy to read :grouphug:
I see no damage. I see luscious, thick waves that I envy... but no damage, miss.
The waves do a good job of hiding it, I admit. But from about BSL down it has been dyed, tortured with daily flat ironing, teasing, hairspray, rough brushing, the lot. Plus the top layer from about BSl down has been bleached. So there is definitely damage, even if I'm lucky enough that it doesn't always show!
oh wow! seriously, your mane is GORGEOUS!
by the way i love your hair colour, it's the same rich brown as my best friend.
Thank you so much :flower: My hair is doing that blonette thing where it can look anywhere from dark brown to medium blonde. The lighting of my length shots does tend to bring out darker colours in it though! I kind of wish it looked like this all the time!

I'm just about to hit waist (just barely hitting waist) with my hair stretched out. It's mid-back length when left wavy/curly.
I started growing my hair after losing it all in a chemical accident in a salon that no longer exists. After the scalp burns were treated and healed, I wanted to grow hair back. Any hair. I prayed.
My hair did grow back. It was pixie length in 2008 when I decided to grow it long, and discovered (and joined) LHC.
It grows very slooooooowly due to my having Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (my body doesn't manufacture collagen like normal healthy people's bodies do). So in 6 years, it's grown about 26 or 27 inches. (I haven't bothered to measure it in a couple of years now.) That's slow growth! I don't know if my age (mid-fifties) or being post-menapausal has anything to do with it. But it is what it is.
I'd like to grow it to tailbone length, to see if I can handle it… given my physical mobility disabilities, thanks to the Ehler's-Danlos syndrome and a broken spine with chronic nerve pain. I'd like to see how long I can actually grow it before it won't grow any more. But I seem to have hit the length beyond which it will not grow any further. My husband helps me with my hair - combing out tangles, braiding it for me, etc. Without his aid, I couldn't even keep it this long!
I use the GM system and products, and I go to the Manhattan GM Madora Long Hair Heaven salon. I braid it for sleep each and every night. (so the cats can't play with or in it and tangle it all up) I braid it each morning, or else I put it up in a bun or something. I never go out with my hair down. It's always contained. And, since I refuse to wash it sooner than 2 weeks (because wash day is such a chore for me and I end up in intolerable pain), as soon as it's quite oily, I also put a cap on over it, so that lint (or cat hair) doesn't get into it; that's what makes terrible tangles! So I actually use either an old-fashioned cotton mob cap or a lace-and-net cap designed to go over curlers over my braided and bunted or just bunted hair, after the first 4 or 5 days after wash days. I use a GM wide-toothed detangling comb. I use a BBB and bend at my waist while sitting. I use little else - other than GM products - on my hair these days.

Welcome to the thread, StephanieB. I also had a pixie cut in 2008. Mine was due to lice (and my desperation in trying to figure out how to pick through it myself... I know better now... I can definitely get rid of lice without cutting off my hair, but I hope I never have to deal with lice again, ugh!). Prior to it, I had MBL hair for about a decade. Your dedication in handling your hair with your disability/illness is admirable. Your hair is lovely.

I think this where I am. I am new to site and new to the idea of wanting my hair long. I have never paid much attention to my hair or gave it any special care. I am 42now and had alot of hair loss last year and that made me pay more atention to my hair and decide to take better care of it. I used to wash every day sometimes twice a day. Now I have cut back to once maybe twice a week. I usually use Suave Professionals, Tresseme, or VO5, I'm cheap. It does seem to work really well on my hair. I have been paying attention to slowly combing it out with a wide comb. I used coconut oil for the first time yesterday, applied small amount to dry hair, due to wash friday, my 14 year old says it looks good today so I guess I didn't over do and it feels good. I also have been s&d'ing my hair which I never did either. Most of the splits seem to be very small only the very tips which I guess is good. I last had my hair cut and colored in February or maybe March of 14 to somewhere around shoulder to armpit length. I wanted a chin .length bob but she wouldn't cut it that short. I'm glad about that now. UI have a bad pic from MAy and a current length shot. looking forward to growing to the next level.http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk48/nevb1973/ac676061-4552-48a0-9e52-1c66223f0948_zps446de0b8.jpg (http://s277.photobucket.com/user/nevb1973/media/ac676061-4552-48a0-9e52-1c66223f0948_zps446de0b8.jpg.html)http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk48/nevb1973/Mobile%20Uploads/2014-12/f858b8c9-66f3-45a1-894c-bb421bfa2369_zps1394c51a.jpg (http://s277.photobucket.com/user/nevb1973/media/Mobile%20Uploads/2014-12/f858b8c9-66f3-45a1-894c-bb421bfa2369_zps1394c51a.jpg.html)

A few years ago, I would never have believed my baby fine hair would actually grow this long. It is nearly at TBL, but I'm thinking of getting a salon cut back up to where my purple top ends due to a botched self-trim. I want to avoid this kind of scenario: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1IL22sLF25s
I suppose I don't mind if they cut a little too much off since my ends are fairytailing quite a lot at any rate.

I can see a small trim on your hem if the shape isn't as you want it, but no need to take very much off. I wouldn't even go as short as where your purple shirt ends. I would go midway between that and where your hem is now. Just a teeny bit.

I spent about a year being uncertain whether I'd really hit waist, and then but one day I look and see that I most certainly have :p
Now that I'm home for the winter break, I finally managed to get a more or less decent length shot, so I guess it's finally time to join this thread. The first line is at waist, the second at hip, and the third one is (how did that happen!) at tbl. It's really really fairytaled and tapered, and most of my thickness seems to be staying at around mbl, but I'm really not sure whether I should trim or not at the moment. I do s&d, so I don't have many splits, and it feels healthy all the way down. Also, I love the feeling of my hair suddenöy tickling my hips, so I would hate losing that if I trim. Then again, it does get a lot thinner at the bottom, which, I guess, would be sort of pro-trim. Then again, maybe the thickness would tracel down as it grows, and I could put off trimming till it feels lile the right thing to do for sure. Am I confused :)))

^^^@olivelover- In my opinion, if you're so unsure about trimming, I would wait a couple of weeks OR you could just cut off like an inch and see how you feel about it and if that helps make it look a big thicker. I think faireytale ends are pretty personally. And I'd say you are at hip length and just barely at TBL, but it's hard to see from the picture so I'm not sure. And congrats on the growth! Very pretty hair. :D

Olivelover, try trimming off an inch, like the previous poster said... Then maybe trim off half an inch per month until you are satisfied with the thickness all the way down!

At the risk of TMI, I felt it and wanted to tell someone, but there was no one home. Besides, I don't know if my family would understand my excitement of my hair brushing a landmark on my backside :p

So making some progress, at about 36 inches. Yes that's a flat iron on the counter, bangs only!!! Funny story, the other day I whipped up a deep treatment. It was coconut oil, olive oil, some aloe vera gel and some gelatin. Last time I used gelatin I couldn't tell it was in there so this time I used more. FYI- do not mix up 4 (yes four!!) pack of Knox gel into your hair and then let it set up. Lots of warm water and conditioner got it out. But my hair felt amazing after; so maybe not a total loss, really I'd prolly do it again....with slightly less gel and time left on....

LauraLongLocks, it certainly did grow! I was growing out my bangs as well but I missed them for some hair styles. I searched for clip on bangs but without spending a fortune, I couldn't find good quality and color I needed. I did end up cutting my bangs. They are long bangs so I can do a bit with them. Sideswept or curled under just slightly. Long enough so I can tuck them under hair band and get them off my face, if I choose to.
I think you look very good with bangs growing out. Do you ever miss bangs?

And to everyone else, thank you for the warm welcome! Also it's great to hear that I'm not the only one on the lower end on the waist to tailbone spectrum. When I first made the transition to BSL to Waist everyone had these gorgeous mid back length hair photos and people just centimeters away from hitting waist and I couldn't help but feel like my hair was soooooooooo short. :P Nice to see like it'll be slightly different here, hopefully :)

I am considering doing trims based on length reached instead of time passed since last trim... Since hair does not always grow at the same rate.. But its rate of growth does ussually mot deviate that much...
I think i would like it more this way...
On a side note, i cant wait for my hair to reach hip. I should be there by may of this year. I shall trim when i reach 31"
Considering maintaining for a few months at 31"
I am seeing quite a few more splits than ussuall, but they are close to hemline. So maintaining for some 5 months or so would be cool... But still considering it. Not quite keen on stalling my growth so much.

January 15th, 2015, 12:59 AM
I've been noticing more splits too, lately. Hopefully they're old ones that have just evaded me instead of fresh ones.
I've also noticed a lot of shorter hairs around jaw to collarbone length. Must be damaged hairs that have had a chance to grow finally. Should help my thickness, at least. One day they will catch up...

First it was waist, well, I got to about MBL and it was Hip, got to Hip, and it was "a few more inches" and now I'm growing out to classic and will probably end up keeping it somewhere in the realm of BCL-classic in the end. Now that I'm at BCL, my hair is finally starting too look and feel long to me, though I still think of it as "short"

Just popping in to lament the 1.5 inches I lost when I trimmed last weekend. I trim about every 6 months... and my last one was barley more than a mircro trim. So, the 1.5" really needed to go. I'm still solidly at hip, BUT, I had only recently discovered I could just barely do an orchid bun! My previous photo didn't show it very well, but basically one side was a gentle U and one was a sharp V...
After reading a recent thread where a member was really unhappy with her salon experience, I made absolutely sure to go to the one hairdresser I knew would do a great job and trim off the bare minimum. I'm so grateful to have a hairdresser like that! She salvaged more than I thought she could and I'm really happy with the result.

This is why I struggle so much with trimming vs growing. I'm just barely at a length that I am starting to have an easy time doing so many styles. I don't want to lose the ability to do any of them by trimming too much. I know I need to trim more than I do because I haven't had a really proper trim for a long time. I'm just hoping my ends aren't too horrible.

So I've been feeling like a got so much more taper lately, but I know it hasn't thinned out down there, well I finally figured out it's 'cause I got a crop of new growth that has gotten long enough that it's thickening up the top of my braid so my taper looks more extreme. My ponytail is now up to 4.5" from 4.25" So I'm feeling a lot better that all these longer flyaways were in fact new growth and not breakage :joy:

Arete wow that seems sooo far away. Where's waist on you?
Aw rags I'm sorry. 2 inches is a lot. Although, if it was that thin, then it's really for the best. I'm sorry for your shedding problems, and I totally understand the feeling of "my hair has gotten so short" after a trim, no matter how small it may be.
Big hugs and best of luck to you in your future growth!

I got 2 more inches trimmed off today. I'm barely at waist now, but it at least looks a little thicker. Sigh. I'm not cutting anymore! I shall maintain here and see if this shed can be waited out or if I'll lost too much and have to chop. :( (Just for reference - the two inches? You could literally not SEE the bits on the floor. afterward It is THAT thin.)
I'm glad you didn't chop! Also, keep in mind with super-fine hair, its hard to see the hair anyway so don't beat yourself up. I'm sure you have that finey spider-web experience of having a hair on you somewhere but you just can't see it. Drives me insane! Don't worry about the floor bits. Your hair is still lovely.

Arete, hurray for new growth!
FallingDarkness, I think BCL is 36/37” range. It is 3 or 4” shorter than TBL (40”), but I cant recall exactly how much. I am 5’10”. I am pretty sure I will make it to BCL by Christmas. Originally I though it would only be stretched, but I had a bit of extra growth these last 2 months and think I might even make it unstretched!
Rags, You are still above waist! Hope the shed stops soon and you get to have a fluffy crown full of regrowth!
I dont think I have shared my length shot recently. I actually think the photo cuts off right at or right below TBL.
Cross post from quarterly length project.

To me too! It's actually a 1-2" inches difference =| so when I will make it at bcl(37") 4 months later I'll be at tailbone length if not sooner! I thought I had a strange butt, but as i read it's probably normal

Your tailbone can't be above your bum crack. Your tailbone will be at least 1-2 inches (or more) down IN your bum crack, I promise. It's the end of the bone right above your #2. Keep searching! (Well, not in public, though...)

Also to everyone else how many inches is BCL on you? Mine is right at 35 and IDK if that's normal for you peoplez. :/

hey Arete after wondering about torsos last night i had to google them up. It seems women with longer legs than the norm usually have short torsos and vice versa (according to the pictures), then there are normal ones. I took a good look at mine, i do have long legs but my torso does seem normal as you said, i am definitely not short waisted. so i guess i am just normal.

I dont plan on staying at FTL for too long. Currently with having young kids, I keep my hair up 98% of the time. I figure this is the perfect time to see if I can get that long. If I dont cut anything and grown average length, I can be at FTL in less than 3 years and since we still plan on having at least 1 more kid, I could probably even try going to knee before my kids get to the point where I feel like wearing my hair down more. Plus if if my hair grows like last time I had pregnancy hormones cruising though me, it would allow me to still chop 4" off to see what shorter layers feels like without sacrificing another 8 months to it. I love my layers and will likely always have some. I had to add the likely because I do like to experiment.
I am migraine prone too, but so far my hair as not effected it. Things can change though, and I will just go with it. My first goal when I got here was TBL, so I hope that will be an easy length for me in the long run in both caring for it, leaving it down, and no migraines! This is where I probably will cut back to after whatever length I get to grow to.

Well, just for fun I grabbed a tape measure to get some new measurements. In the past I only measured down to hip, because hey, I was at APL when i took those, and hip was far enough away to worry about! My goal length is around BCL or TBL, but I measured classic and FTL too, just for kicks...or maybe for inspiration! All lengths are in inches.
BSL 28
Waist 30
Hip 31.5
BCL 37.5
TBL 39
Classic 42
FTL 48 or so (that's really hard to measure on yourself!)
For the record, I am 5'7". I'm finding it really fun to see everyone's measurements relative to their height - our bodies come in all shapes and sizes!
But based on those measurements I only have about 5.5 - 7 inches to go before I hit my goal! I'm at 32" right now, so maybe I'll reach it by the end of the year!

Just did the same although I'm sure they're not 100% accurate!
Waist: 70cm / 27.5in
Hip: 80cm / 31in
BCL: 87cm / 34.5in
TBL: 94cm / 37in
Classic: 100cm / 39in
I'm 158cm / 5"2 :)
This showed me that I have about 10 inches to go until I reach my goal. Not too bad!

i'm excited to witness your journey to FT Rushli but i do understand how you feel about it :) I am the type of person who needs to be enjoying everything i invest my energy into, it's one of my main principles in life and that includes my hair. I am not sure i could deal with super long lengths (mid thigh plus) because i like to wear my hair down at least once or twice a week so it wouldn't work well for me. i love pampering my hair etc but if it became more of a chore/burden than a pleasure i would cut it back to a shorter length without much hesitation.

i shop most of mine online (found a couple on ebay), i also have an acquaintance who can make them to measure for a good price, very handy :D I don't know what it's like where you are but many of our high street/mainstream shops here sell clothes in short/average/tall sizes so you basically can chose what fits you best, i think it's great they take height and every size into consideration, shows you times have changed for the better! I also have similar issues with waist/hips and it's very hard to find jeans that fit my waist and hips properly, if they fit the waist they are too small on my hips and vice versa. My waist is very narrow compared to my hips. I usually end up with baggy jeans on my waist that fit my hips properly and i hate wearing belts hahaha

Ambrielle, great principle! I often wonder if I would be able to keep that mind set if I was growing out from really short locks, but thankfully I dont have to find out. I always referred to my pregnant growth as growing like a weed too, I only know 2 months of postpartum growth measurements, so it would be awesome to find out how past a ‘weed’ really grows this time.

when my waves are brushed out it feels like i am very close to bcl (an inch or less) but in reality and with my natural shrinkage i am still 3 inches away give or take. My ends feel dry lately no matter what i do with them, i am planning on trimming in March ( last trim was in November). I was going to go for 0,5 but it might not make much difference unless i take a whole inch? Thinking i won't make it to tailbone this year with all the trims and shrinkage, i am only claiming unstretched. oh well :(

thanks for the kind words and encouragement lapushka, minaa and wilderwein :flower: it is very close to bcl when it's been brushed and on days 3-4 (after being kept in a bun most of the time) but when i wash it, apply products and then leave it alone it shrinks back up to solid hip -_- it seems the healthier my hair is the more shrinkage i am getting from my waves but at the same time they also seem to be stretching with the weight if that makes sense. i don't understand my bipolar hair anymore

Growth is back on track, as my longest locks of hair are a little past waist now! I took this pic for length check in, kitties, and also to see the difference between cones vs. no cones (my most recent conditioner that I fell in love with is coney... and I am not yet ready to call it that my hair loves cones).

You have such a refined way of discussing butt shapes. If i described mine as well as this, i think i might like it. haha :toast: I think my rear end is just fine... does the job of giving me a place to sit, haha! So why be down on it? It's the only butt I'll ever have!
LLL, thanks for adding the inches. I was mobile when i saw it and was not about to start googling it. I finally pulled my computer out and found you saved me time :)
I agree with JadedByEntropy, great way to talk about the back side, LLL!
ETA: Post 1000!!!!
i was thinking the same :D
Hey, we got to love our hind ends... Our butts possess more muscle than any other place in our bodies, and do more work than we give them credit for. I love my hip/pelvis structure. It has brought 12 awesome kids into this world. It can't be all that bad!
I do feel that it will literally be forever before I make another milestone though, even if I do like my butt.

Same here. It's not really noticeable on my last picture, as I used a hair dryer instead of my usual air drying, but I have a feeling the longer my hair gets, the more it shrinks from my waves. Your shrinkage seems much greater than mine, though :)

OK, I did a length pic and the tip of my V is below waist, about an inch, I think. (I don't measure these things; just estimating visually). If I can't genetically get to tailbone, I'd at least like to get to BCL. So, I want to join the thread officially.
Oh, and in the picture I noticed my butt is smaller now that I lost those 4 inches off my hips. I have no idea what shape it is, though, and I don't love it or hate it. It's just...there.

Gorgeous hair Minaa. I love the golden-reddish tone to it (if the color is accurate). You also have amazing smoothness and hemline!
I think I'm terrible at calling body markers...I think I may be back at waist again after my surprise chop at the George Michael/Madora salon four weeks ago. Its always hard to tell what's going on because of my waves. At least I'm super-close to being done with my layers so I'm content (not happy!) with my hemline for the first time since the haircut of doom nearly two years ago.

Thanks everyone for your kind words. Have some cheese ^^ :cheese:
Laisik, I usually trim twice a year, but I had to get a trim earlier this month to get rid of some damaged ends. I might start doing microtrims, but I want to get better scissors first (my S&D scissors have only ever cut hair, but were never very well cared for).
Crumpet, the color is fairly accurate, but there is hair color in there somewhere. In order to prep for a really red color, my stylist put in a redder tone (but still the same color level) as my hair. ... But that was well over a year ago! It *should* be fairly grown out now. It's more noticeable when I put up my buns.

I haven't posted anything in this thread for a while but I took a February photo a little bit early :) I think microtrimming has worked very well for me. Ends are still quite thin but overall my hair looks a lot thicker than 6 months ago. (I had to add some brightness to the pic because I didn't want to use flash because it makes my hair look a lot redder than it really is).

Here's an updated length shot from me. Nothing's really going on with my hair right now... my growth slows down a little in the winter, and I can kind of tell it's been hibernating. I'm not really happy with my ends here. I micro-dust monthly but it looks like I need to start getting a little more aggressive. I think they look flippy because they've been in a bun for like 3 days straight though. Meh.

I took a length pic a couple of weeks ago but only just sat down to sort through all my pics, redo my signature, and everything. It seems silly, but I couldn't help but be struck by how much two one-inch trims thickened up my hemline.
October:
http://i58.tinypic.com/sgqq03.jpg
January:
http://i57.tinypic.com/23wjjfl.jpg
I mean, I could have just drawn a line two inches from the bottom, but it seems more "real" seeing the pictures, I guess. If it weren't for braid shred, I'd consider going back to trimming an inch twice a year. Since I still can't get my shortest layers into braids at all though... Nah, I'm too curious what it's like to have a blunt hemline now that I've tasted a little bit of what it's like to have really long hair.
Also, looking through all my length pics (sporadic as they are from last year, oops!) made me realize that my hair has a really bad habit of shrinking more on the right side. The left side always looks at least 1-2 inches longer. Hopefully it'll be less obvious once my layers are grown out but it's making me really self-conscious about the idea of wearing my hair down. Darn waves, making it look like my hair was cut by a total novice. (Well, it was, I did it, but that's not why it looks that way!)

your hemline looks great Nique1202, so how much have you been trimming on average? I too am growing out layers and would prefer a blunter hemline on me, i don't like the bits sticking out in my braid ( i have 4 different lengths ugh), not as noticeable when i do a lose braid but tighter braids show it well. i have scheduled trims for every 3-4 months, anything from 0,5 to an inch each time depending on how my hair feels like.

Right now, I'm trimming all my growth (1 inch every 6 weeks at the bottom) until I'm happy with my hemline. That could be 2-3 more trims, or it might not be until all my layers are grown out in another 14-16 months, but probably closer to the latter. Once I'm happy with whatever shape my hemline ends up, I plan to stop trimming altogether and just S&D indefinitely, unless my ends thin out to the point that I'm unhappy with them again. I'm gonna be so impatient after sitting at waist-hip for so long, I'll probably want to keep all my growth, and S&D won't be a hassle when all my hair is one length.

Does your hair grow really fast? I grow 1/2" a month (though had a random spurt this past christmas) and 1" every 6 weeks would shorten me up quite a bit.
I like my layers, though do want to try shorter amounts of them eventually. My latest plans bounce between growing to CL then chop 4" and grow to FTL and just waiting until I hit FT to cut 4" off. It will really depend on if my hair is looking alright, like I am meant to have layers, not some weird/odd growth that does not hang well. Either way, I dont think I could ever really trim to maintain length. I am way too lazy... I like hair cuts being every 6 months or so :)
TrapperCreekD, as usual, your hair looks fantastic!

Beautiful, ladies!
I cut my hair yesterday. shudder: I measured before and after and I ended up only taking off a centimeter. I went from 87 cm to 86 cm. I was going to wait until my next scheduled trim/photo day on February 28th, but I made the mistake of checking my ends when my mom came to visit and asked me to cut her hair. I cut hers as she asked, then we checked mine, and Mom pointed out that I had a lot of different lengths. It gnawed on me for a day, and so the next day I trimmed off a centimeter. I'm happier with it since now my hem is more even, but a bit disappointed in myself for not having patience to wait another month. I haven't had a trim of more than a centimeter at any one time for over two years now, and I am really missing the feeling of fresh ends.
My last (5mm) trim was October 1st, and on November 1st I cut off the racers and didn't cut into my hem at all. So, I went 4 months if you don't count my heading back my racers on November 1st. I hope I can make it to June 1st, which is another 4 months. I am getting eager for reaching a length where I want to maintain a while, because I really want fresh, thick-as-can-be ends. I miss that.
I would share pictures, but my computer isn't recognizing when I insert my SD card from my camera. I'm going to try to upload my photos next week from a computer at school.

Looking thick and healthy! You're right that it's such a dramatic difference for only a few months - from full-on layers to almost all the same length! I'm sure it will be no time at all before that last cheeky little bit will fit in the braid :D
I took a length pic a couple of weeks ago but only just sat down to sort through all my pics, redo my signature, and everything. It seems silly, but I couldn't help but be struck by how much two one-inch trims thickened up my hemline.

Amazing curls! :thudpile: I would love to have that naturally!
Looking good, everyone! :cheer:
Here's my hair after taking another inch off a couple days ago. Much happier with my work-in-progress hemline! :cheese: Looks like the thickness s l o w l y traveling down.

Hmm, looks to me like you might already be at hip? Whatever the case is, it looks gorgeous! I love the subtle colour gradient you have.
this is my picture of today,
past waist, heading to hip!

Does your hair grow really fast? I grow 1/2" a month (though had a random spurt this past christmas) and 1" every 6 weeks would shorten me up quite a bit.
I like my layers, though do want to try shorter amounts of them eventually.
My hair grows about 3/4 inch every month, you'd get the same effect if you cut 1 inch every 2 months. But, if you like your layers, then that's the difference: I don't like mine anymore. I liked them until I got to waist and then I was long enough for braids and buns, but the layers weren't. Your hair should be what makes you happy, and if that's layers, then that's what your hair should do!
My layers are also at literally every length from hip to chin-nearly-shoulder now. I cut them using a ponytail above my head, which gives layers based on how far away from the ponytail the hair is on your scalp. So, my layers are pretty evenly distributed, only millimeter differences from one hair to the next, but with shorter ones to the front and longer ones to the back. So, anything I do with my hair, from buns to braids, has ends sticking out all over the place right now, and it bothers me. If I hadn't been extremely silly last summer, I'd only have apl-to-hip layers and I'd probably be a lot happier, but here we are, and here in this thread I'll stay for another two years or so, as long as I have the patience.

I'm gonna be so impatient after sitting at waist-hip for so long, I'll probably want to keep all my growth, and S&D won't be a hassle when all my hair is one length.
i understand, it's important to be happy with our hair and hemline, there isn't much point in length if we can't enjoy our hair. It has crossed my mind lately to chop mine all the way back to mid back/just above waist which is where the longest layers are hanging above my hemline. It would make such a huge difference tapper wise but i am 5'10 which means it would take me a long time to grow back to where i am now ( less than an inch away from BCL stretched). I need patience to keep on trimming slowly this year, i probably won't gain much length but at least i will gain a hemline i enjoy more and get rid of some of these layers :)

Laura, i can relate so well right now because i *almost* did the same thing last night to mine except i would have taken 4 inches off :lipssealed:. I keep contemplating choping it back to waist to get rid of my longest layers at least but it feels like such a waste at the same time and unnecessary. At least you feel better about your ends now, right? Focus on that and keep growing <3

I had a couple months of 3/4” growth. It was nice! I agree about doing what makes you happy, so sorry if my question or sharing what I was doing with my hair made you feel like I thought you should do it my way!

So many gorgeous pics here!!! Nique1202, schnibbles, badslipper1981, and TrapperCreekD: each and every one of you is looking amazing! It's wonderful how unique everyone's hair is here!
Well, here are my evidence pics. I can't believe that I've finally made it to waist! It still looks so short to me, even though when I see others at this length (or shorter!) their hair looks so long. Oh well!

I'm glad I'm not alone. Thanks for the empathy. Four inches! So much length! It would take me about a year to regrow 4 inches. I would love to be able to take about 2 inches off and have really fresh ends, but I'm going to ignore that thought until my hair gets a little longer. I forgot to take my SD card with me to school today, so no pics yet.
I was so sure I would grow to TBL then maintain a while, but sometimes I think I'll grow to classic before I maintain. Then I think to myself, why not wait to maintain until fingertip? And then I think about how I want fresh, even ends at every length. That requires regular trimming, so I guess I just need to do my quarterly trims of 1 cm each and go with that for now. I can't decide which I want more, length or a thick hem. Sometimes I think the length isn't going to be possible without keeping the hem thick. Maybe thicker ends protect one another more? I don't know if there's anything to that theory, but I do know that I love a thick hem on long, straight hair like mine. Oh what does it matter right now? I am not even BCL yet. I am definitely not at a length where I would like to maintain, so I should just stick to my quarterly 1 cm trims and call it good, right?
Yeah, sorry for all the rambling.
EDIT: I think what I am wanting is a shaped hem. I'm not sure if my self-trimming is giving me what I want. I want a very soft U shape, with a slight undercut so that it tends to naturally curl under at the ends instead of flipping outward. I know that in order to get the hem I want, I will have to visit a salon and be prepared to lose inches of hair and I'm just not ready to part with inches right now because I want length. Self-trimming for a blunt hem (sorry, Feye's u-shape looks way too complicated and I'm afraid of losing too much hair or ending up with too deep a U-shape) will have to do for now until I reach a length where I am ready to maintain, or even lose a few inches. At what length will I feel ready to lose inches of hair??? That sounds absurd! I don't think I'll be ready to lose inches of hair ever again in my life!

Wow! Everyone's hair looks so great!! Every time I go away from the forums for any length of time, I always find myself amazed again at everyone's beautiful hair!
Well, last time I was here was in early June, I was at 31 inches and my ends were just around hip length. After months of benign neglect, I'm at 35 inches and my ends are just past BCL! The very ends don't look the best, but they seem about the same as they did in June, which is good enough for me right now. It's amazing how much it grows when you just don't pay attention! lol
I'll see if I can get DH to take a picture tomorrow.
