I read somewhere that hair slows down growth in the winter, ugh.. hibernation? I hope not! :patrol:

Anyways, here's to sharing our  while we wait out this cold, rainy, wet, dismal, snowy, cold, frizz-inducing-- ugh winter. :) Not to worry LauraLongLocks! We have plenty of !! Do you like microwaved or stove top??? Add some parmesean cheese to the top and it gets some pizazz!

Stove top, definitely stove top. Popped in coconut oil and topped with butter and plain salt is good. The powdered dried parmesan cheese tastes like dirty socks, so keep that to yourself. I don't want any of that sprinkled on my popcorn. I would take the real deal though. Love real parmesan cheese.

I don't know if winter hair grows slower, though I have heard that. There is no scientific basis for it, as far as I have been able to read. My growth was slowest in the spring this year. A few months I only got 1/4" each time. I felt like I wasn't getting anywhere. In fact, I spent a lot of 2014 discouraged about my hair growth, or lack thereof. 2015 will be different because I will be checking less often. This should make it possible to have some discernible growth. I have also picked a good sweater to use to track my growth because it has nice wide horizontal stripes of different colors on it. I loved my red dress, but sometimes it was hard to see my hair against it because the floral pattern was backed with black and it blended so well with my hair color and the shadows from the sunlight. Here is my measurement record:

2013

September 28th - 28.5"
October 27th - 29.25"
November 27th - 30"
December 5th - trimmed .5" (or so I thought)

2014

January 1st - inconsistent measurement of 29.5" to 30"
February 1st - consistent measurement of 30"
March 1st - a dismal 30.25"
April 1st - 31"
May 1st - 31.25" (only a quarter inch? Really?)
Jun 1st - 31.5" (Again, only a quarter inch?) ... measurement actually taken a day early, but that's close enough
July 1st - Jul 1st - 32" or 82 cm, trimmed 1 cm, remeasured and hair is now 81 cm, just a teeny bit past 31.5"
Aug 1st - 82 cm, or 32.25" (after measuring, I trimmed 5 mm)
Sept 1st - 83 cm (after measuring, I trimmed 5 mm)
Oct 1st - 32.6" or 83 cm (after measuring, I trimmed 5 mm)
Nov 1st - 84 cm (after measuring, I trimmed racers only)
Dec 1st - 85 cm or 33.5" (after measuring I did not trim at all)

Thanks for the encouragement, LongCurlyTress. Trimming is always a traumatic experience, however necessary it may be. Good to hear some reassurance that it was the right thing to do!

^ I'm still afraid to attempt my first ever self trim, heh.

I don't think I'll try it for a while. My hemline is adequate, though a bit crooked, so I'll survive for a few more months. In the meantime, I am so excited for my Jan. 1st measurement. It will be near my 1st anniversary of joining and I'll most likely get to call hip. I'm pretty confident that I'm there right now, I just want to be 100% sure.

I've noticed lately that my nails are definitely growing more slowly than they do in summer, so I wouldn't be surprised if my hair was doing the same. That combined with my very first noticeable autumn shed got me a bit worried for a while there! I'll definitely be needing a lot of  to tide me over to next summer.

My length goal is getting more and more vague as time goes on. I'm now trimming random amounts bimonthly and maintaining somewhere between waist and hip. I don't want to cut back to above waist, but I'm not really dead set on growing to hip or past it either. So basically, I'm never leaving this thread!

Just imagine, ten years from now people will come in all excited about reaching waist and I'll still be here .. :couch:

^ Well on the bright side, you will be the ultimate expert in waist-length hair styles, hair care, etc.! I'm sure that will be a tremendous blessing to some poor newbie. Besides, waist is a beautiful length. :)

@Aurum: Just take your time with trimming until you feel comfortable doing it. =)

I'm late sorry but I forgot about this thread over the winter swap *cowers in corner of shame*

My hair grew 1cm what makes 81cm in total.
On the right side you can see the layers pretty good. I have them on both sides and grow them out for about 8 months.

I haven't trimmed in almost 8 months, and normally this time of year I'm itching to trim. I've got a few splits here and there, but I did some S&D last week.

I've been doing mostly benign neglect and keeping it up, though I have been doing LOC after showering.

Help keep me motivated not to trim!

I'm starting to find my hair a little difficult. I have to wear it up or it just gets caught in everything and tangles dreadfully, while a couple of months ago it was still fine with occasional careless treatment.

Yes, I totally agree!!! Used to be able to leave it down quite often, but now that it's at 30" that turns into a nightmare! Huuge tangles, especially at the nape of my neck, that take around 20 mins to gently de-tangle. And it gets stuck in everyyything. Now, I almost always put it up, just so I don't have to deal with it! :agape:

Rushli
December 7th, 2014, 06:29 PM
My hair also got nape tangles/mats once it hit 30". Using poo bars has bought it back to it's non-tangly self. I do have to be consistent at detangling in the morning and at night when before I could just braid the tangles in and take care of them the next day.

I'm a-trimming this month. On the 23rd, if I can, since that's as close as the barber shop is open past the Solstice and new moon. It's been since March 2013 since my last. If I can get in with the barber I like, I'm gonna take an inch off. No layers, simple, subtle U hem. I think I will like it better than now.
Now, it's super tangly despite everything with blah hemline. That's not good for anybody. One inch should do the trick. I was very pleased with her last time and she was apalled to hear that some of us here ask for one inch off and get three or more.
I'm nearing up on hip, but I don't want to get there this way. I need a pit stop.

I'm right there with you Wildcat on the pit stop issue. The little voice in my head keeps saying "those ends are getting fuzzy, its been 9 months and you are warranted a minor trim now, your hem is suffering for the cause". I am thinking start the new year with a half inch trim and a detailed schedule of measurement on a monthly basis. I am looking to diet some weight off too but not sure how that will affect growth rate but it will be interesting to see. :o

Hello fellow waist to tailbone growers! I don't remember if I've posted in this thread before or not! I'm really close to tailbone right the moment but my ends are driving me crazy. They're getting so thin. I think I might wait until I reach TBL and then trim an inch or so. Hmm...

clea my thin ends also are driving me crazy! i allways cant make it to the tailbone length couse I dont have the patient and i cut them! but this time i will suck it up and let them grow! i actually kinda like them this way, but some hairdressers made me believe that thin ends= damaged hair!

I'm still having trouble with nautilus and lazy wrap because of my thickness, but the disc bun (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iViNkltTb9Y) (I think that's the right link) is a favourite of mine. It's easy-peasy and looks a little messy with my layers, but it holds much more solidly than nautilus or lazy wrap with my thick hair, so with thinner, longer hair you should have even better results.

Ahahahaha well girls I am also more of a braid type for two reasons! 1. when i try to make a bun actually stay in its place for the whole day, i feel like i damaging more my hair and 2. if i finally manage to make a right bun it will probably hurt my scalp after 2-3 hours =/ SO YAY FOR BRAIDS ahahahahah also clea i hope the same to you too!!!! The bottom end of your tailbone (where tailbone length should be measured) is gonna be closer to your #2 than the top of your butt crack unless you've got the world's tiniest bubble butt. You're almost definitely feeling part of your spine, look way down in the crack for more knobs/hard spots. When the hard spots stop altogether, that's the end of your tailbone. Here's a picture (http://www.basicspine.com/images/coccyx.jpg) to give you an idea of where to look.

That's great! I'm at least 12 months away from BCL, lol.

I feel like I could call TBL by the end of the year but I'm going to have a couple inches taken off in January so I don't think I will.
TBL by end of 2015 anyone?
Although by then I do hope to be half way to classic. Lol. I really really want to be classic or nearly so by the time I finally graduate in 2016 but I don't know if it's enough time. I'm holding out on any more length pics until after Christmas but I really need to get my behind in gear and do a YouTube video now I'm on holiday again.

It's hiding several pages back (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=34877), because the last post was a couple of weeks ago. :applause

Aaaah, I see! Thank you! I searched a few pages back, and did a google search, ana even though I remembered a thread like that I just couldn't find it.
I'm officially moving in there, since I'm actually well past TBL :) But I will lurk here ;)

I have about three inches to go until TBL, so I'll most likely make it by the end of next year. I can't estimate when, though. There seems to be no regularity to my hair growth at all, and I plan to trim anyway.

Oh well... I'm actually really enjoying hip length now and am thinking less about how long it could be in the future. I hope I get to classic someday, but it doesn't matter if it takes a few more years.

Can I ask a question? I am a little bit confused! Well I found in many diagramms that hip length hair are shorter than tailbone, but then in some others it presents it like is longer than tailbone.... So enlighten me please ladies, hip length is shorter or longer than tailbone length?

Tailbone is down in the butt crack, where the bone stops to make room for *ahem* biological processes. Hip is the top of the hip bones. So, tailbone is always longer than hip or buttcrack, and might be close to classic length for some people.

I wish! I will probably net about 3 inches growth next year, as I did this year. So, I'm thinking BCL is about as far as I will make it in 2015. I'm past hip now, at 33.5 inches, and BCL is 36 inches. TBL is 39 inches and there is no way I'll get 6 inches net growth. My max growth before trims is four inches.

Makes it so hard to trim when I need to trim because I know it will take me so long to regain that length. I guess that's just good motivation for babying my ends so they hopefully won't need to be cut off. S&D from now until March 1st, when I'll dust off 5 mm. I am really taking care of my ends and hope to see fewer and fewer splits.

Knowing that my growth rate is not phenomenal has been really influential in deciding how I need to care for my hair. Since even the tiniest trims equal a big setback for me in length progress, I know I must figure out a routine that will save my ends. Deep conditioning treatments used to happen once a month or less. Now that I know I have to work hard to preserve my ends, I'm doing a DC at least once a week, and have started pre-poo oiling. I also began brushing with a BBB and so far it is really helping my hair to feel soft and to shine like nothing else. I've heard conflicting advice on BBBing, so I hope I won't find that it's damaging my hair. I always detangle thoroughly before brushing.

Anyway, have fun making it to TBL. I'll still be here for two more years, and once I make it to TBL I plan to maintain about a year to give my bangs time to catch up some.

I wake up, do my usual little routine drink coffee etc, then peer in the mirror at my semi-ageing face depending on the light and I then set about undoing my side sleep braid. I hope not to find many tangles or splits and after gently detangling and carefully brushing I always feel around at my back to see where it is, it feels like it will never get to TBL and indeed sometimes it feels like it has shrunk. I feel I should get a trim to thicken my hem but that will put me firmly back prior to BCL....oh what to do !!? I think many of us know this territory and it is often a case of a watched pot never boils. Perhaps if I have a trim and thicken my hem then I will resign myself to not thinking about any length goals for a while and my hair will appear to grow faster because I will have walked away from watching the pot so to speak. A kind of defeatist attitude perhaps ? I don't know.

Hello, lovelies! Tell me, how do you wear your hair to sleep? I usually do a single braid down my back, but lately it has been bothering me. It gets stuck under my side or, if I lay on my back, underneath me, and it just isn't comfortable. I have thought about putting it in a bun on top of my head, but I'm not sure it would stay, as I toss and turn pretty badly. If you do a bun, how do you secure it and how well does it stay in place? Or, how do you manage your braid so that it doesn't hurt your back or (as sometimes happens) try to strangle you in your sleep?

I personally can't see the picture you attacked, but if the picture of your profile picture is what your hair looks in real life then I wouldnt be worried! Its probably a natural thing that your hair does while growing! As I personally can see, I believe that they are people who have this kind of thicknes that you have at your ends ON THEIR WHOLE HEAD-HAIR and they still manage to grow them! So dont worry! My hair does the same thing and I used to cut them all the time becouse of that but at some point I realised that if I'm gonna keep cutting them then they would never grow! So accept your natural fairytale ends (doesnt sound really great? hahahaha)

I can't sleep in a braid, it hurts. Braids also seem to make my hair "fuzzy" (I even sleep on a satin pillowcase, so I don't know why) I usually sleep with my hair in a pony on top of my head, with a silk scrunchie. It stays in, but by morning it is considerably looser, kind of falling out but contained. I mostly bun during the day so I like to try to give it a break on buns if I can.. The satin pillowcase has completely eliminated my night-time tangle-issues, though.

Lately I've been doing a cinnabun secured with four spin pins equally placed around it. I toss and turn all night, and even with my layers it's still secure in the morning.

[EDIT] I should add that any bunning done at night should be pretty loose from your scalp, especially if you toss and turn. I secure my nighttime buns with the spin pins without picking up scalp hair, so the bun as a whole separates from the scalp some and moves around but the hair stays in it, locked in by the spin pins.

I do an upside down braid for sleeping. So, just a normal english braid but done with the braid tail going up over my head. It looks AWFUL, but keeps my hair from being caught under me or causing my neck to sweat.

My SO complains it slaps him in the face occasionally in the night though.

Well hello there fellas!

Now i know i dont post a whole lot, but today i found a great, awesome reason to post..

I have grwon to 28.5 inches! Yay! Horray!

Not a lot, know. Its not like i am saying my hair is at hip now or anything. I am still at waist. But i am at waist in my hairs everyday state! Unstretched!...... Sorta.... Well notmin its natural natural curly state, but in its bun wave state whichnis what is present 90% of the time. So this condition is what i value.... Well watevs. You get my point.

So i feel like a have reached a sorta milestone within my brain.. My hair hast taken the first step into apearing long for me. Half an inch before this point my hair felt short.. It does not feel long right now. But i cant call it short.

Its in a state of "i have just begun" you know what i mean? Well i am happy and over the moon! Ever since i cut it to bra strap length in may, it has traveled pretty fast. It should still take at least 6 more months to get back to hip+ like it was before i cut it. But the last time it was 28' inches long, the ends where thined out from layers and a bit damaged from wear and tear. Now they are nice and thick and blunt! I do hope they dont thin out on their way to my hips. But oh well.

Nothing can dampen my celebratory mood today. Also... My neon green bangs have reached collarbone length now.. Time for a trim.... Miny trim... Those i will be maintaining at armpit length or so... Depends on the condition of my hair. Since they are bleached to witeness.. For the purpose of true neonness... Well... They glow in black light. Its a worthwhile trade to have a bit of glowing hair somewhere..... Maybe somewhere in my dreams i can get these bangs to waist? Dunno..

Best luck with your grown gals and pals! I'll be reading!

joining this thread, i will be here for a while as i plan to maintain once i reach BCL (current hair goal lenght is tailbone, may change though) :) I am currently at 36 inches (stretched) which is hip area on me (i am 177 cm tall). debating on whether to chop back to waist (so as to get rid of damage and even out layers) or carry on with micro trimming (improvement seem slow though)

I sleep with my hair in a sleep cap -- I think it really helps to protect my hair, its so easy to do, and its so comfortable. I've yet to introduce my boyfriend to the sleep cap, however, so when he's about I usually make a bun with spin pins at the top of my head.

LLL -- how do you like the BBB? I use mine occasionally. I detangle with my fingers, then a wide-tooth comb, and then gently use the BBB. It makes my updos smoother and I think it distributes oil well (which is what its supposed to do, along with stimulating your scalp). I think that its okay so long as you detangle carefully before using. I had bad experiences with TT, unfortunately.

Since a few people have posted their projections about how long they'll be on this thread, I'll share my predictions: I'll be here until probably late 2016 or 2017. I'll probably be stuck at waist until this summer due to my aggressive microtrimming. Its a bummer, but my hemline is looking so much thicker and I love that!

I am a BBB convert! I used to shed 25-30 hairs a day prior to using the BBB, but since starting to use it every day twice a day I have gone to about 10-15 hairs shed a day. This morning I detangled, brushed, washed, detangled again, and styled my hair and only lost 3 hairs. Yes, THREE hairs!!! Amazing, right? I'm sticking with it.

How do you know if it is due to the brush or just a change in season? Does the BBB brush make follicles stronger? I'm curious!

I shed at a constant rate of 25-30 hairs a day this time last year, and I was keeping track every day for about 3 months. Throughout the entire year my hair fall seems to have remained fairly steady, though I wasn't counting every single day. I only did spot-checks for shed hair counts throughout the year. Then two weeks ago I started brushing and my hairfall has dropped significantly since I started.

... and the last part... I don't know if it makes your follicles 'stronger' per se, but it does stimulate blood flow to the scalp and blood flow nourishes the follicles.

Larki, before you do a trim, try pre-poo oiling and then a deep conditioner after you wash the oil out. Your ends look a bit dry, but not awful. I think they can be salvaged. As for your body marker, congratulations on being so close to TBL. I think your photo with your hands raised up somehow shortens the perception of your hair length. I would love to see one with hands at your sides to get a more accurate illustration of your length.

LLL, I do pre-poo oiling twice a week and deep conditioning once a week, so if my hair still needs moisture after all that, I don't know what to tell it. :p I'll give it a shot though and see how I feel. Unfortunately, I don't have anyone to take a picture for me, so I'll see if I can get a picture with my arms to the side like my avatar.

Adding my projection!! I found LHC in January 2013, went to a GM salon, and measured in at 24". I'm at 30" and past waist now. So in 2 years, I gained 6" of healthy growth ... but I have also trimmed a ton of damage from the ends, I would guess around 4 inches. Hoping to be at hip (33" on me) by the summer of 2015, and BCL (which i think is around 37") by the end of 2016. TBL ... probably 2017. So far away!

THEREFORE, in addition to popcorn, I vote for :cookie::cookie: to sustain us on our TBL journey !! :)

Noooooo dont give up! Have you tried specific vitamins for hair? But dont take them for 6 months or so, try to take them for at least two years! I trully believe that the tailbone isnt your terminal length! We will be together in this journal ok? we will reach tailbone and then try for classic length! if you cant do that then i'll probably wont too! She didn't have cancer per se I think (or atleast didn't lose hair in the usual chemo way), but instead went through various health problems and had heavy sheddings many times. But what you said applies to that aswell. She's also a member here on LHC. :)

Yes, you are right. It also depends on how I am holding my head. If I could balance a book on my head like some people on this forum can, then I would know for sure I am holding it the same each time, but I'm not coordinated enough to balance a book on my head. Haha!

I have reached TBL so am leaving all you lovelies to move on to the TBL to classic thread! Hope you join me soon:)

That's a wonderful Christmas gift, Sarah. Congratulations. It'll be two more years until I reach TBL, so you'll probably be long gone before I make it to that thread!

I know! I feel like it's going to be so far for me, too! My hair is not even close to any part of my butt area, and I have mucho buh-dunka-dunk in my trunk. It's a huge amount of real estate. :D

In other news, I trimmed an inch of fairy taleage. You can't really tell any difference. Well, I didn't trim it, my barber lady did. Took her seven minutes. I had to tell her to sloooooooooowwwww way down with that comb going through my oiled, repeatedly tangle teezed that morning yet still tangly hair. Had to ask her to part on the side for cutting, and remember that yes, a year and a half ago when she trimmed me, she did that for me then as an exception to the middle part rule. All in all not a bad deal though.

I think I am going to stop detangling except with fingers and in shower. It's super pointless, does nothing. In five minutes or less, it's tangled again, so why bother?

ExcitEment!!!! My hair's all brushed out and thus fairly straight, and in pure LHC fashion I have been seeing where it ends... And my longest 100 hairs or so are at tailbone!!!

Although I'll be hanging out here for a couple more months so it is a bit more solid.

Geeee excited!!

I'm now officially claiming TBL, although I'll be sticking in this thread for a bit because I intend to be maintaining a bit after a year of not trimming. :) Wow, this was a long pit stop. It was in May 2012 that I reached waist. 2 ½ years!

Congratulatiooons!!! May I ask how are your ends are? I am going to non trim for 2015 and I am really nervous that they may be a mess at the end of the 2015 (I will also be probably TBL and if I'm lucky a little bit longer)

Thank you! My ends are doing ok even though I am growing out old dye damage and extreme layers from 3 years ago. So next year I will be maintaining, but my ends took it better than I thought. They are dry, because they are damaged, but they are hanging in there. I've tried being good and done some deep treatments now and then, but nothing extreme. I've also S&D'd less than I planned, but then again I don't usually find many splits and if I do, they are usually tiny. So I'd say try it but if you get too desperate and your ends don't like it, do a dusting. Plans can change. Good luck! :)

OK!! Waist to Tailbone! You win!! This is taking forever! In mid November, I cut from 1-1 1/2 inches from the pointy tip of my 31 inch hemline to even it off to 30 inches as of Dec. 1st. The hemline seems thicker, or at least it did for a couple of weeks, but now I am seeing another layer growing out and making my braid tassel thinner again although definitely not as thin as before my trim in November. No, I am not going to trim off this new section, but I have a feeling that waist to tbl is the hardest since the layers start to thin out the hemline and tangles start to get harder to detangle in the shower especially for us curly 3b girls!

Anyways, I just wanted to vent some frustrations and hang out on this thread for awhile since I have a sneaky feeling I will be here for at least a year or more. :( Just wanted to commiserate with anyone else who is frustrated with getting through this abyss to tbl. :) :taz::alcoholic::knitfrog::justy::brickwall:face: There, I think I got all the emoticons that I am feeling right now! :/

Oh great! I trust you, I also grow out bleached hair and layers so if you were ok with that then I feel better! I am doing over night oiling every time I wash my hair so hopefully I'll get the same result, dusting sounds good tho in the worst case (if i cant handle the ends for some reason). Thanks a lot ^-^

This is without a doubt the most trying of lengths. Every time I've hit waist since I was a teenager I have given up and chopped. I'm at waist now and hope that it won't happen to me again. Or worse, that waist is terminal for me. Will post up a picture tomorrow for you guys, getting late here!

I'm with you, LongCurlyTress (ha ha, I actually wrote your real name and then went back and put your screen name here, lol). I hit waist on January 1st this year, and I have only netted 3.5" growth the entire year. I grew a total of about 4.25"- 4.5" and trimmed off 1" - 1.25" this year. I will be in this thread for about two more years. So, from waist to TBL will end up being a 3 year journey for me. From pixie to hip was 6 years, so I guess this is par for the course for me. It still doesn't make it easier when I watch other people with phenomenal hair growth whizzing right past me. I watched, green with envy, as others here were several inches shorter than me at the start of the year and have now passed me by several inches. It's discouraging.

I was told that my hair growth wasn't slow, that it was my perception, but no, it really is slow. It's not all in my head. Mine is slower than average, by a long-shot. It's so hard to decide to trim because it takes me so long to regrow anything that I trim off. Prior to being here at LHC I never measured my hair so I didn't know how slow my growth was.

Before the pixie of 2008 (stupid lice... never again! I now know how to get rid of lice and KEEP my hair so I'll never cut a pixie again!), I had MBL hair. Dutifully, I would go to a beauty school (because I'm cheap and don't like to pay full price for haircuts) every 2-3 months and get a trim. I could never understand why my hair didn't grow past BSL-MBL. I didn't realize they were cutting off all my growth, and then some, every time I came in. I should have been measuring all along, and should have known about how to define a trim in terms that both the stylist and I could agree upon. When I grew out my pixie, I learned how to communicate a "dusting" to the stylist and never had any bad haircuts while I grew to waist. Now I trim it myself so I don't have to worry about a bad haircut from someone else.

Anyway, I can relate to how you are feeling. A thin hemline is more delicate and apt to get damaged than one that has its full thickness because there are fewer hairs to protect one another. No more layering or cutting of bangs for me. I have learned my lesson.

When I finally reach TBL, I plan to stay there a year before growing longer to get my ends thickened up and give my bangs a little time to catch up. So I will be in the abyss a long, long time.

At least we'll have each other for company. :blossom: :flower:

FrostedLoki, welcome to LHC and to the waist to tailbone abyss! I, too, have felt that this is a length that I don't seem to be growing at all. Maybe it is because the hair doesn't actually touch the lumbar spine area of the back when standing erect, so we can't tell how long it truly is. Anyway, feel free to grab some popcorn and hang around with us while you wait for your hair to grow.

Yes, you are right. It also depends on how I am holding my head. If I could balance a book on my head like some people on this forum can, then I would know for sure I am holding it the same each time, but I'm not coordinated enough to balance a book on my head. Haha!

Thats a good idea. i'm doing that now to measure. would help hold the tape too ;)

Thank you so much LauraLongLocks and definitely grabbing myself some popcorn. *munches* I figured once I hit tailbone I'll need to even out all the layers in my hair before I start heading to classic but at the moment I can't bring myself to even it out just yet as then my hair just wouldn't be considered long at all. this photo was taken yesterday, co washed hair overnight, braided and lightly oiled. I think i am at hip (unstretched)? I am tall with a fairly long torso, there seems to be quite a distance between my hips and tailbone but the distance between tailbone and classic is shorter for me. sorry about the red lines, i was marking damaged layers.

I wanted to maintain when I got to waist, but I decided to skip it and continue downwards. I probably should maintain at this point, but I feel like hip is an awkward place to take a break. I think this year I'll microtrim a bit to let my layers and U hemline catch up, yet keep growing to BCL. Then I'll maintain there for a while. :-)

About 100 hairs hit tailbone but since I haven't trimmed in one year and a half, part of me feels like I just trim a little, or maintain a little (despite saying I wouldn't trim 2015)...
The other part of me just wants to go as long as I can and just S&D as needed (although I have definitely fairytailed a lot). Somehow, now I've hit TBL, I don't want to go back, but I'm worried that with my thin ends I won't get to classic because they will get weathered out...

Anyway, I'm actually really grateful this is the worse "problem"/"decision" I have right now...

Johannah, I'm sort of in the same predicament. I had the U-shape but then started trimming a blunt hemline.
I'm pretty sure I'm going for the U-shape again as I think it's prettier and more natural looking on me.
I've heard others say the U-shape is very flattering for those of us with wavy hair. I'm still deciding as there are pros and cons to both hemlines for me? Your hair is lovely. :)

I am currently going thru a growth spurt right now. Getting about 1.25 inch a month compared to my normal .80 inch a month. It quite the growth spurt.

On the down side, it appears that this growth spurt is uneven since i checked my hemline yesterday and it was really slanting to the left.

But i trimmed it even and kept it at 28.5... It had gotten to 29 inches already when i just checked in at 28.5 around the midle of december. Ao that was about half an inch in a bit less than half a month. Thats crazy. I just noticed it now. Shame its uneven.

Still, i dont microtrim again for 4 months.. Lets see where i am at in 4 months time.

I think your hair looks beautiful and the ends don't look too thin to me, they look well looked after in my opinion :)

the ends will thicken up a bit more once you start maintaining for a few months (5 to 6 months in my personal experience). I trimmed between 4 to 5 inches this year to get rid of damage, i still managed to grow 3 inches give or take but i am much happier with my hemline now. i will be trimming again next year to even out layers (0,5 inch every 3-4 months at least).

Nice growth spurt! Even your normal rate is enviable, lol. Way to go!

Good to hear, because my hair is wavy when I washed it/day after I washed it!

Also, I've been growing out layers for AGES and there is some damage left because they haven't had an actual big trim like the rest of my hair. If I maintain with a U-shaped hemline, those sides got cut as well and I'll be damage free faster ;)

Yes, and THIS is why I'm going to maintain! I don't feel happy with my hemline right now and I want to change it! I'm going to maintain for 6 months at least. I do like this length right now and I'm sure if my hemline becomes thicker, it will look longer as well.

Thank you, this post was really motivating :)

Thanks, Johannah. Wow, your hair is getting lovelier and lovelier! All the former layers have blended in. Your thickness at the hemline has increased significantly. It's so much longer, too! Looking great! You've done well this year. Congratulations!

Thank you so much Laura, I feel waaaay better now. I really do. We'll both get where we want to be, 2015 will be great! ;)

I'm new to buns apart from using a hair donut so any advice on buns good for this hair length and video tutorials to go with them? Any help would be great. It's getting super cold where I'm at and I'm trying to keep my hair in protective styles when outside.

Sort of a French braid. I put my hair up in a midhigh ponytail and French braided it looseish like a horse tail taking the strands from the back of the ponytail than took out the hair tie to give the loose look. I was trying to Elsa's braid from frozen. I braided maybe four inches down the pony and then braided the rest in a regular braid. Then I just tugged on the elbows until it got the big soft look.

You got to fiddle with it and try it a few times. looping the ends over the stick helps clean it up.

Last check in before the new year. Correcting my last interpretation on Nov 9, I was meandering just past waist when I posted that photo, and now I'm solidly two+ inches below waist with some real filling out. :D (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=5483&page=581&p=2868662#post2868662 here's the post to compare. Trimmed back to BCL from only-just-TBL - so I'll be hanging out here for a little bit longer :)

I see you're a iii. TBL is absolutely better than waist from that perspective, as you can do more updos at that length. At waist I was just starting to be able to get at a decent length for updos.

BCL is at the very top of your *ahem* crack. TBL is about midway down your butt at the end of your coccyx vertebrae

Johanna and LLL - it felt like I cut a lot (2 inches or more maybe? I didn't measure) - but it was my bottom layer that is probably as thin as a cable, so visually, it actually looks quite similar if not the same (like a V with a somewhat blunter end if I splay the hairs out). I may dust or thoroughly S&D again in mid-January when I'm reunited with my sharper pair of scissors in case my mother's scissors, which are actually pretty dull, have caused any damage or splits.

When it is in a ponytail, there is less of a point at the end, but I like how it looks more - and I can still do my nautilus/nauthickus bun thing, so that's fine. :)
I took a picture in a braid with the last bit of trim, and perhaps I'll get that picture up, it actually shows the braid taper quite nicely, and where the layers are.

Ah. Then I am at BCL and growing toward TBL with classic as my end goal. My ends are getting wispy though, some splits here and there. Last trim was early august and my sis took off a quarter inch and put in layers. I like a face frame that starts at the chin as an alternative to bangs, but it grows out so wispy. I am toying with the idea of taking another half inch to an inch off. Should I cut?

My goal is definitely tailbone since my bf doesn't *think* he'd like it any longer and my only preference is "long". I'm staying in this thread, although a recent GM salon visit unexpectedly resulted in losing at least two inches. I should be back at waist next month. Still, its discouraging that I've been parked at waist for about 14 or more months. Sighs....

Oh no, I'm sorry so much was cut off. This makes me sad for you. I will go see if you posted more about it in the GM visit thread you made.

My hair is longer than it has ever been now, I think. If not, it is certainly very close!
I'm almost at hip, which is very exciting.

This is so pretty - the colour and waves look so mermaid-like!

Little update from me... I have been trimming 1 inch a month since about August, trying to speed up the process of removing my layers and old damage. So far it seems like my hair isn't getting any shorter, so I think my growth rate must be higher than the average 1/2 inch per month!
I wore my hair down for the first time all year on New Years' eve and I felt very conscious of it all night. Partly in a good way, but mostly feeling uncomfortable. I think I have just become so unaccustomed to having my hair down that I don't know how to handle it anymore. I can only hope that once the damage is gone I'll be less self-conscious about it becoming a poof-ball and will be able to enjoy wearing it down.
This is my December length picture, with French braid waves. :)

You're trimming out layers aren't you? That two inches may have saved you time in getting them out.

I see no damage. I see luscious, thick waves that I envy... but no damage, miss.

i'll be taking photos of mine in Spring so i can compare with the december shots, not in a rush though... in the meantime i am enjoying seeing everyone's beautiful manes  :o.

My friend checked my length yesterday, i am 3 inches away from BCL (unstretched) and 1- 1,5 inches away stretched, darn waves & height
i think i will be by BCL in May/June with a small trim in between. Tailbone is 5 inches away, i may make it to christmas 2015 if i don't get too scissor happy about evening out layers and trimming old damage.

Whoa, I leave for a week and a bunch of beautiful pictures get posted! I can't comment on each one, but my mouth was agape looking at all of the gorgeous manes on this thread! WOW! :thud:

I just posted my two year anniversary thread (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=128784&p=2911432#post2911432), and I think that since I'm almost always a bit past TBL at this point, I'm going to mosey on over to the TBL-Classic thread.

I'll still be lurking for the pictures and conversation, though! :smooch:

Come on baby, we're almost to BCL, you can do it, I believe in you, sweetie... :p
At BCL stretched, less than an inch on 6th/7th day hair, and 2.5" when my hair is all wurly. I wanna update my siggy so bad and call BCL, but I feel a moral obligation not to until I'm BCL pre-wash day. At full wurlies.... It's so hard to get an accurate measurement, so I'm not going to wait that long :p
So come on hair! grow Grow, GROW! :patrol:
