I just had baby number three and we struggled with breastfeeding until just a few days ago. My supply had been dwindling for awhile, and I was finally ready to let go. (I have had a lot of support and info, just biologically I don't make enough. We went through months of crabbiness and weightless, but now everyone is happy) I know BFing is not such a chore for everyone, but I can not imagine giving that much of myself for so long! We have talked about 2 more to bring us up to 5 but now that I am able to relax a little and am seeing my oldest (4) starting to be more independent, in makes me feel content with my boys. The small section of the baby's closet with girl clothes just waiting to be used in it begs to differ thou.
I could go for no more periods, but not too thrilled with the other things that come along with it.
Btw, your hair in your sig looks so lovely! It is hard to imagine it is just over 2 inches/5.5cm longer than mine. It looks so much longer! It must just be my layers. I hear the undesirable aspects of menopause calm down after a while and it's not so bad after that. As to the hair length, maybe you are taller than me? Or have a longer torso than me? I'm 5'4" tall. Waist was 29" and hip was a blink after that... I think about 30.5". 83 cm is equal to 32.6" so my profile is a bit behind the times.
Well said.
I'll bring some Belgian chocolate. Wooo hooo!
I'll double the Belgian chocolate. At least we don't have to think about adding more chocolate (we can always use more, though). You ladies know how to succor Americans! All we get is crap chocolate here unless we spend a lot of money for the good chocolate.
And I will triple it! It's a long journey! I hear some Target stores carry Ritter Sport chocolate, and sometimes you can find some decent Lindt chocolate at the grocery stores, next to the checkout.
Now this... Is my kind is party! It's every lady's kind of party, right? ;)
Everybody is invited! :chocolate::chocolate::chocolate:
Thanks, I'll take one of those off your hands. :chocolate: Oh, wait, not there yet. <hands back chocolate in shame> :chocolate:

This is really what I would call the climax or the turning point thread in this entire forum. We come in here with waist length hair, a length that is respectably long, but not super-length yet. We graduate with TBL hair, the shortest of the super-lengths (in my opinion). This is the place where we grow from long hair wannabes to real longhairs. Some of us might take more time here than others. We might trim back to get a thicker, healthier hem. Or we might breeze right through this thread with a fast growth rate and awesome ends. In any case, this is the happening place on the LHC. This is where all the real action is. So pull up a chair, grab some popcorn, and enjoy the journey.
Where's the 'like' button - you've summed it up perfectly!

This forum really does need a like button. It can be done with this type of forum. I'm on another forum that is also hosted by V-bulletin and they have like buttons. Why we do not have like buttons, I do not understand.
Anyway, thank you. I'm having a great time hanging out here with my hip+ hair, waiting for my chocolate reward at TBL. Hope there's some left for me since I don't grow as fast as you, Trappercreek. Save some for the slowpokes, okay ladies?

It must be the height thing. I am 5'10" and waist was 30" and hip (based on top of my hip bone the sticks out) is a ways down.
Mmmmm. All this chocolate talk. I have been "training" DH to buy good chocolate but he likes Hershey's dark chocolate.

I'm not even sure I want to go to tailbone since I wear my hair down most of the time & I hear it's impractical much past waist. I don't have a problem with tangles at waist or at hip but maybe tailbone would be too inconvenient and tangly.
Saw a tailbone + mama pushing a stroller with her hair loose in the wind today. Very pretty. Maybe I'll be like her!

Six more inches of height is nothing to blink at. But when yours gets to hip, it will be much longer and more stunning than mine at hip.

I have little people, too, so that's why I like to keep it up. When I got to school this morning with my hair in a very wet bun, I did take it down to let it air dry during class (no little people there!). It was a bit drier after my one-hour class. Throughout the day if I found a safe moment to take it down and dry it, I did. The rest of the time it was in a LWB.

If you guys are bringing Belgian chocolate, I guess I can bring salty liquorice (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salty_liquorice)! Huh? No? Well how about some nice goopy malted rye (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M%C3%A4mmi)? Still a no? :p
I'm not entirely sure I'll ever get to play in the Big Leagues in terms of hair length. I did another trim, so I'm back at a bit past waist and likely to stay here for a while yet. I tried to take a picture of my hair but let's just say it did NOT look as good as leilani's and leave it at that.
I have to admit that after MBL I've started wearing my hair up a lot more, partly because I'm hanging out at the LHC a lot more than I used to and partly because longer hair does get in the way. Apparently I'm now very committed to keeping it up, as I accidentally left a spin pin in it when I went to be last night so it was in a lopsided cinnabun the entire night! ;)

I just wanted to say that I'm not sure I'll ever make it to TB either, though it's my goal. It used to be terminal on me (though possibly a false one since I wore my baby fine hair mostly down ). Since I'm older and my health is now bad, I'm not sure what I'll be able to make it to with a hemline I can stand.

These look like goats to me. But in any case, they are absolutely adorable!
I have never had my hair longer than it is right now. I hope I can make it to TBL and beyond with a nice hem. Will definitely hang out at TBL until I'm happy enough with my hem to let it grow longer. Keeping a thick hem has always been very important to me my entire grow-out.

The bottom of the next dark stripe is 4.25" away for me, and is almost BCL. The bottom of the wide stripe just below the dark stripe is TBL. I think BCL might be attainable in a year if I don't trim too much away. TBL is probably too lofty a goal for December 2015, but I could be pleasantly surprised.

My hands are at my hip bones.(the hand on the right is accurate.) I wore my hair down all night so it would dry in time for me to wear my new 60th fork from LooLee today, so this is my bed head. I plan on washing again tonight and braiding in a paranda so that when I take it out on sat morning, I stand a chance at it being mostly dry so I can have amazing braid curls for my sister's baby shower and totally freak my grandma out with the color. She LOVES when my hair is long and curly, so I might have a chance at winning her over. She has not seen my hair down in probably close to a couple years, so that will surprise her as well.

Hello everyone :D
I would like to join this thread as my hair recently crossed waist. Here is a picture of my current length:
https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3933/15481369432_13f9826365_z.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/pA34LC)
Waist is at 76 cm and my next goal is hip which is 86 cm. About 2 months ago I nearly had my hair cut to collarbone length and I'm so happy I didn't :D
The reason is that half of my hair is still damaged from flat iron and bleach.
I thought I would never manage my hair to become healthy and shiny but since finding out about what my hair needs, it has improved so much and I love it. <3
I wash my hair every second day with Sante or Desert Essence shampoo and do SMT before every wash.
Apart from that I don't need much care - only a self-made leave-in when my ends feel dry.

What a gorgeous hair, all of you - Rushli, Winter Fox, nuvola, DreamSheep, Arete!
I'm dangerously close to TBL again when I stretch my hair (I have maybe an inch to go), and it drives me crazy at moments (I already wrote about the reasons why I just can't feel comfortable with hair longer than TBL right now), so these days I was thinking about the cut (which always brings me to the scissor-happy point)... And I had a dream last night that I went to APL, which I regretted immediately. Luckily, the dream was feeling so real that I'm not going to touch my scissors for some time, and I'm certainly not going for anything shorter than waist, that's for sure! :D
Anyway, I will cut it back a little bit eventually, and maybe for the first time in my life I'm quite happy about this playing with lengths in the same time maintaining some WL-TBL safe zone. It's just nice seeing your hair improving its condition on its own (I can't wait for the day when I won't have much splits left.. I hope it will come!).
I just wanted to share all of this with you. :)

I still belong here!
Here are two photos - one before and the other after the trim. My wavy hair is combed out and without any products in both of the pictures (personally I don't like it that way, but it's the easiest for trimming) so it will shrink a bit more when I wash it as usual. It's so soft now! I think I trimmed about two inches or perhaps a bit more - I don't know since I was doing it gradually, half by half an inch until it felt ok.

Nymphea, your hem looks so nice and thick. :D
Here are my braid waves from this morning. It was early morning and trees shaded the area so it still does not show the color off really well. Oh well. I braided it in the paranda two nights ago at 2:30am and it took me ten tries to get it. I did not get the top as nice as before, but the ends were lovely!

They look ok when i sleep with bendy foam rollers wet (they were still damp when I removed them in the morning, that's why it's wavy and not curly) but my natural 1c is horrendous with any cut /hemline. Not straight enough to be chic, not wavy enough to be, well, textured and nice like that. Even like that I think the hemline is so piddly and see through! I want more heft!

I am the opposite. My hip is just right above BC and then 2-3 more inches to TB. My measurements use to be in my sig and silly me deleted them without writing them down else where. I am going to have to re measure, but i think hip is 6" from my waist. maybe 5? lol

I'm at TB, but I'm not sure whether to "graduate" to another thread, due to the fact that I'm semi-maintaining here while my layers finish growing out. I've been trimming about an inch seasonally, so I am getting to keep some of the growth, but I don't know if I'll just suck it up and trim to the shortest layer at some point, which is, I believe, a little longer than waist. Once the layers are all gone, maybe then I'll graduate to the tailbone to classic thread. :)

I have approximately 2,5" from waist to hip, then something like 4" from hip to BCL and then 2" to the actual tip of my tailbone and another 2" to classic. I always feel these measurements are so weird compared to others... But I suspect a lot of people count TB as about mid-butt, and I have a superflat underweight backside with the eternal hip area.
Nymphea
October 18th, 2014, 02:50 PM
For me, waist, hip and TBL are very close - just a couple of inches away from each other. Especially hip and TBL are very close, so I'm often going up-and-down from hip to TBL and all over again.
On the contrary, BSL and waist are very far away on my body, and TBL and classic are miles away, which is the reason I've never had enough patience to grow to classic (except when I was a kid). :)

Thinking about letting my hair grow another 3ish inches (would get me to BCL) and trimming to a U or blunt hemline. Even though my hair is long and there is no taper, I think the shorter layers near the top make it look a bit like I do. Thoughts?

I'm having major boredom issues with my length..... I even snipped an inch off my half-ponytail -on -the -forehead to get my layers in front more swingy. Which worked but now I'm having a hard time resisting the urge to go up to a bit above waist to make the layers more drastic yet the hemline blunt cut up to be thick....I'm almost hip at the moment... I know it's not what I really want but a fresh haircut is sometimes so irresistible when you want a "look" to hair worn down. I'm not an everyday updo person.
Any encouragement?

Well, it's your hair. You can do with it what you want. If everyday updos aren't for you, then make your hair what you love when it is down. There are no hard and fast rules about how you MUST have your hair. I think sometimes on LHC we feel that longer is always better, but for some people, that isn't the case. Long, but not super-length might be what you love. If that's what you love, then go ahead and do your layering and trim it shorter.
If your goal is to make it to super lengths, then trimming it shorter (when unnecessary for the health of the hair) is not going to get you where you want to go. However, I am a firm believer in LOVING your hair at every length. If you need a change, then do it.
If you truly want to make super lengths, then press on, focus on something else, and remember that this is a very long-term commitment. I would say 'wear it up and forget about it' but clearly that approach won't make you happy, since you said you aren't an everyday updo person. Maybe a deep conditioning treatment, or some other form of hair pampering is in order for you right now.
Whatever you decide is fine. There are no wrong answers in your hair journey. If you choose to cut and later regret it, write about it (ETA: and take a lot of photos!) and save it for inspiration the next time you get antsy about cutting your hair.
Cheers! I'm pressing on in my long-term goal of knee length for the time being. ((((Leilani))))

Awww thanks LLL! I appreciate the time you took to think of me and my hair boredom angst. I am definitely not aiming for anything past BCL (or TBL at the absolute longest),so it's not like I have more than 6" to go in terms of growing up do, which isn't hard for me to have in under a year without trims. But I don't think I can not trim unless I really think the hemline and the ends of my layers (aka the hemline when I flip my hair upside down and cinch a forehead ponytail) are nice and impressive.
I've also had waist (give or take) forever and ever and i want to try something new. Buuuut I hate this henna color so I half want to aggressively trim until it's out & sacrifice length in favor of ridding rusty henna glow....and half want to imagine it as a future pretty henna ombre on tbl hair.... Ooooof I don't know. I want my thin-medium bangs grown to be able to tuck behind ears but also look like side swept curtain bangs. the only reason I have them is to mask postpartum shed anyways which sticks up like horns if I don't have them... My grown out super thick blunt bangs I had cut in spring are at that tuckable length and will soon be a great face frame. My front layers are swishy and swingy and make the bangy situation blend better to my length...
Ahhh I'm obsessing, sorry to ramble!!

You're welcome. That's what we are all here for, right?
What I hear you saying is that your layered ends have to be awesome (I get that!) in order for you to not trim. I also hear you saying that you are tired of being at waist, since you have been at waist for a long time. At the same time, you hate the henna color and wonder if a TBL henna ombre would be more to your liking. Also, you are unsure what you want with your bangs. You want to try a curtain side-swept look, but on the other hand, you got the bangs originally to help mask your postpartum shed and don't really want them anymore. Your thicker set of blunt bangs are almost long enough to become a face-frame layer look, and would go nicely with your existing shorter layers. Did I get all that right?
Well, no one can decide for you what to do, but you have a lot of options open to you right now. It's hard when there are so many options to choose from, and all of them sound appealing in one way or another. Maybe by reading my summary/interpretation of what you have said, it might help you to clarify what you want most.
You said your long-term goal is BCL-TBL, and that it's within a year of growth for you right now. How you get there is your choice. If trimming up the layers and shortening the length right now would help you achieve your long-term length goal, then that is what you should do. Trimming a bit off the bottom and freshening your layers will not rid you of your henna right away, unfortunately. That is just going to take time, no matter if you trim as you go, or not. If bangs make you happy, you should keep them. If you want the option of bangs some of the time and being able to keep them back the rest of the time, maybe clip-ins are a possible option for you.
There are no easy answers and no wrong answers here. It's entirely your preference. Sorry I can't be more helpful to you. No one can choose what is best for you, except you.

Did I get all that right?
.
Yup, you did!
I guess I just need to power through this boredom . I want to try a new length and I've made big progress with my hemline over the past six months trimming out bleach damage a bit, and less damaged hair moving down and thickening up my ends at both my hemline and my layered canopy' shortest ends at APL.
I think i should stick tight until November 1st and then take another length assessment and decide whether I trim at all or not. I am not really wanting to trim, I'm itching to have my hair be different so taking 1+" off my ends would achieve a noticeable difference in my hemline thickness and would be exciting...but so would taking a couple months off of trimming and seeing how it looks in the new year and perhaps 3 months growth (in other words being over an inch and a half longer than now) will cure my boredom. I wouldn't even be thinking about not trimming except I can't find white dots or splits. I've checked in every light! So maybe I put off trimming until I see some damage. And to gain length faster and get solidly to hip or hip+ and see if I'm cured of my boredom that way. By valentine's day my bangs and grown out bangs will look the way I want them to, as well....then I can think about whether I want to go longer or hack a more drastically layered cut to blend the growing bangs in to my overall shape and take 3" or so off the hemline to make sure it's thick. I have iii thickness so should be possible to have swishy layers plus a non see through hemline if the layers are not spread out from eyebrow to hip (that's a bit too much to ask without FTE). Ear to just above waist could look really good and thick all the way down.
But first I think I wait for my bangs and postpartum shed regrowth tufts to grow into a contributing part of my hairstyle, grow out more of this nice, healthier, less bleach damage hair, and reassess when I've actually left waist firmly behind and am past hip. Maybe I'll just continue to TBL and be happy to finally reach a new milestone for the first time in my life! Or maybe I'll hack. Either way I think I should wait until 2015 to decide. It's only ten weeks or so away....

I guess I belong here? Based on the picture I took for my intro post (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=126652) I thought I was at waist, but I took another one today to post on this thread and it looks more like hip to me! Tells you how much I'm stressing about my length, right? (I'm not that carefree to be honest, just plain clueless) I think this time around my waves were looser, and I made sure to look straight forwards (sorry for the bad quality):

I'm planning on maintain once I hit TBL to get a blunt hemline, I might want to grow longer than that in the future but for now that's what I'm aiming for, so I think I'll be around for quite a while!

You look about BCL (butt crack length) to me in this picture but in the other you definitely look to be in the hip area! Waist is the smallest/curviest part of your abdomen and then hip is kind of wherever on your hip bones that you personally decide to call hip length. Some users go by the widest area under their waist or they'll find their hipbones in the front and trace along the iliac crest to find the top of their hip bones in the back, which puts it within a few inches of the waist for most users that I've noticed.
Just now I leaned far to the side to find my hip bones and they're only like 2 or 3 inches below my waist in the mirror so imho, hip is kind of a stupid measuring point since it's such an arbitrarily decided marker. I may not even ever call hip myself since I'm not sure where I want to call it lol. My hair, when stretched, is about an inch above the top of my jeans so I'd rather just wait to call my next milestone at JTL since that is clearly visible and is pretty much always the same spot (where my hip bones peak out on the front of my body).
Soo basically, you're somewhere in between waist and BCL. You could be waist dry/unstretched and BCL when wet/stretched, that's the trouble with wavy and curly textures: they change on a day-to-day basis.

Oooh, I see! I figured the hip marker began on the widest part of the hip, and that anything before that counted as waist. I just washed my hair and the longest strands barely get to BCL when wet. I still have a lot to learn I see, both about my wavy texture and length measuring in general :)

Ugh, I think I called waist too early. I called it a few months ago and now I'm feeling really impatient for hip. When wet I'm at "can-I-maybe-start-possibly-thinking-about-considering-this-almost-hip?" and when dry I'm the annoying child on road trips who is constantly asking if we're there yet. Nope. We weren't there 5 minutes ago, we aren't there now.
To extend that analogy, I've just gotta keep trucking along towards hip. Someday I'll get there! :)

I guess in a way, all the methods of "finding" hip land you in the same area but it may be slightly higher or lower depending on if a person is taller/shorter/thinner/thicker than the next person. Plus, if you call it by the front part of your hipbones vs the height they reach in the back then that's a pretty big discrepancy, at least on my body (they're approx. 1-2 inches apart). Then on top of that, some days my hair is longer than others depending on how much my hair decided to curl that day before or after I bun or braid it so it may look waist today and hip tomorrow or vice-versa, it's moody

Well I just had my 6 month trim at the hairdresser today - she took off about 2cm and I am now back at 79cm or 31 inches. I am happy though because my ends feel lovely. :)

I love that feeling too! I'm about the same length as you, maybe 80cm and I'm 5'7"(170cm) so it's waist or waist+ for me. I much prefer waist with lovely fresh ends than longer with ends in need of a trim so I understand you! I'm *almost * sad my ends are in good shape from frequently trimming the past half a year because now I can't really justify a trim anymore! The ends aren't too see-through and I can't find damage, so I'm not going to cut for cuttings sake.... Doh! It's so boring to do nothing but wait.
I did a very pretty half up today, braiding from my side part in front down behind the ear on both sides and joining in back, very elfin like I think. Lovely to have hair off my face and on my back out of thy way, without the pain of an updo, and enjoying having it mostly down (meaning the look of long hair )!

This sounds lovely! I wish I was better with braiding but I pretty much suck at it!
It's weird about the urge to trim thing - at about the six month point (I don't S & D or micro-trim at all in-between though) I just physically feel I MUST trim! It really is like an urge! I don't think I had a lot of splits (and hairdresser confirmed this) but a 2cm cut makes such a difference to the overall feel of my hair. And it's nice to feel like I have kind of a clean slate for future growth.
But with micro-trimming you clearly don't need to cut - I felt somehow that I did! I wish I could trim my own hair but I know I would be bad at it and am scared at the thought of myself armed with scissors! ;) Luckily I have a great hairstylist that listens to what I want and doesn't cut more than I ask her to. :)

Welcome to the newcomers, it's always great to have fresh peeps to wai(s)t with! ;)
This Saturday I'll be trimming again to keep myself at just-above-TBL, and I'm kind of excited! As much as I would love to grow longer, I know that I need to maintain. (Plus, I told myself I couldn't buy any hairtoys this year unless I maintained at TBL)
PLUS, now that I think my goal is changing to be longer (due to super flexibility in the shower... I want to feel my ends at mid-thigh for real now!), it's even more important that I have healthy hair at this length before I move on.

Anyone want to have a TBL party when we get there? I'll bring the protein shakes. :)
This is so true! :) Put me down for the party!
A month and a half ago I was sooo obsessed over my length and how slowly it seemed to be growing. I took a break and thought about other things, and ignored my hair atrociously. I ended up leaving it in the same braid for 5 to 7 days most weeks and only taking it out to wash it. It was pretty bad of me, but I never leave the house anyway so it didn't really matter.
In spite of my not-so-benign neglect, I measured today and find that suddenly I am at 36"! :cheese: This puts me just 2.5" away from tailbone, so hooray! I'll maintain here this month, and then sometime in November I'll let it grow as it wishes until it finally hits TBL. :)

I noticed when I did my hairstyle today that my JamieLeigh wraps around a lot farther than it used to. When I learned how to do it a year ago I could barely get the tassel tucked in where the bottom of the stick is before running out of hair. Now I can make it all the way around and my braid ends at the top where the stick is inserted. The tassel goes another two inches or so. It's progress! I'm noticing the same thing with my lazy wrap bun. I now have to wrap it around almost 3 times, whereas I used to wrap it only twice barely. It's fun to notice things like this.
This post probably belongs in the mini-milestone thread. Sorry.

And, the last time I checked, my hair reaches TBL when I lean back in the shower. When I say TBL I mean where I feel my tailbone at the bottom of my spine though. I wanted to clarify since I know some use "TBL" to refer to BCL or the halfway point to classic. OMG! I just leaned back and pulled my hair straight and it almost reaches classic! I can't wait to know what it feels like to be that length, it was my very first goal!! Thank you very much! :flowers: Rope braids aren't difficult though if you want to learn :) Just be careful when detangling after wearing them all day because my hair tends to stay twisted when I undo the braids, although that happens to me with cinnabuns sometimes too so it may just be me.
Very pretty! :D And congrats on TBL.
I wish I was there </3 lol but thanks anyways! Everyone was talking about flexibility in the shower so I wanted to chime in on where my hair reaches when leaning back. Unless you meant that because my hair reaches even lower/longer than it did just a few weeks ago that it must be to the next milestone? Last night it did reach down to the top of my pants when pulled straight but I do need to wash my hair so it may currently be flatter than usual :hmm: I really need a length picture too so maybe I'll get a pic before/after I wash my hair today or tomorrow and we'll see where the ends decide to lie on my back.

Your ends looked amazing to me, Johannah. You should see my scraggly 2b ends!
I'm trying to hold out as long as possible before I trim, because it seems like the ends get scraggly again a week later, just at a shorter length.
Thank you for saying that, but things has changed last months. Thank god I'm so busy with school I can't pay attention to it.

If I really stretch, I'm a little past 36" but I did trim about .75" over the past few weeks. I was evening up a little bit of fairy tale ends. I can really feel my hair thickening. It's a pretty uniform thickness down to about APL now.... But I still have a big taper problem! Below is a quick test of a Rose bun but my length wasn't long enough or thick enough to fill in the gap nicely... It barely made one loop! Upper portion is monsterously thick tho :) You can see how quickly it thins out at about "3 o'clock" on the upward curve.

One and a half inches to go until I reach tailbone! (Will call it at BCL,- stretched- which is the top end of tailbone, rather than the lower end of tailbone). Will I get there by the end of the year?.....:)

Hello everyone! Now that I'm approaching hip length, I'm curious to know where exactly people usually call it. Is it on your hipbone, or the widest part of your hips? I was never able to figure that out :0
Crumpet
October 31st, 2014, 10:46 AM
Kittenface -- upthread there's a good description of it -- it seems that many of us agree its a hard one to figure out. For me, its the widest part on my hips, but I'm not very curvy and I have wavy hair so its a really tough one for me to call when I get close.
I just did another microtrim (approx. 1cm). It feels wonderful to be slowly thickening up my hemline, but it looks like I'll be stuck at waist-ish length for about another year, unless I'm growing faster than I realize!

Kittenface - I think most people call it at the top of the iliac crest. For some of us (me) it is only an inch or two below waist. And then it takes forEVER to make it to the next milestone. I guess that is why we coined it the mid-arse abyss.

I think I'll call hip when it hits my underwear line. I know that's extremely arbitrary because people wear their underwear and pants high/low/anywhere in between, but it's a reasonable location for me and it's easier to find than the fabled "hip." At least it generally stays in the same spot.

Thanks for replying, guys! I think it makes sense to call it at the top of the iliac crest, which incidentally I always misread as "lilac crest". Anyway. Even if that definition of hip might be very close to waist for someone and really far away from others, I guess that's true for most body markers, and it does still work. On me I think there's about 5 inches between my waist and the top of my iliac crest, which means I'm halfway there!
Tailbone feels sooo far away.

This hair shrinking needs to be abolished! Curse the trolls! Sorry, ladies.
It's shampoo/measure/photo/trim day. Just waiting for the sun to come up and for my hair to get dry so I can get a good outdoor photo. Then I will measure and trim 5 mm (if there has been any growth).
Last month I was 83 cm pre-trim, so if I am at least 83 cm this time, it means I grew 5 mm, lol! I'll check in later when I have my photo to post.

I've been measuring every other month (so I would measure October 1st and December 1st) but I gave in and measured today. I'm at 32 inches, which is way longer than I thought it would be. I was supposedly at "a bit under 31" last month, so I'm thinking my helper didn't measure right last time or I had a huge growth spurt. I'd like to think it's the latter. :o
Also, LLL, your hair looks soooo long, much longer than mine feels, yet I'm only an inch behind you. Are you sure you're measuring from your hairline over your head? Or are you measuring from nape?

I'm measuring from my hairline in front, over my head, and down my length. It doesn't feel super long to me at all. In fact, it doesn't seem like it has grown at all in the last year, even though I know it has.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89x4IuUZWyg That was a freaky commercial, but that's how a lot of old advertisements strike me. Yes, I'll trade hair with you, but only for a day. I do like my own hair. I just want to know what it is like to have a different texture.
I never really thought about the silkiness of straight hair as being something enviable. Mostly I have wanted more volume, more body in my hair. It is easy to get the appearance of seaweed stuck to a rock when your hair is fine and straight. Yup, seaweed on a rock. The rock being your head. Nice image, right?
It has become less and less of a priority the longer my hair gets to create volume. I now enjoy the silkiness that I didn't realize was so awesome in my younger years. :)

So I just washed my hair, and it seems that my longest strands (belonging to that tatty underlayer that deeeeefinitely needs trimming) grazes the upper part of the aptly name milestone of "bum crack length"! Of course, as they dry, they do get a little bit wavy so they aren't really there yet, but it has been an exciting discovery.
Also noticed my hair looks "diamond" shaped, due to a deep V from shoulders to... bum crack... and the peak on my head.
Anyway, exciting! Maybe in a few months I will have reached BCL more solidly (or will have trimmed and be more solidly at some other milestone), and who knows, maybe these racer strands will reach TBL, but I don't think it counts. :p
Anyway, boring my-hair-did-something cool chat over - and that is one creepy old advert which I found hilarious, and will be sure to share with my SO :p

Don't feel bad, LLL. I got to hip last March and the hairdresser chopped me back off to just past BSL and I'm not quite back to hip yet! I did take a new length shot a few days ago, and yes I know my ends are dry and my hemline is tattered. It's from the meds which are also causing my shed. Bleh. Whining warning: How come I feel like my hair isn't growing at all? I mean, shouldn't I be getting closer to some new milestone by now? I reached hip in MAY and it is now NOVEMBER and no new milestones. Surely, I should have reached BCL, right? Nope. Not me. I think it will be the end of next year before I make it to BCL.
The curse of a proportionately long torso and a slower than fast growth speed, I feel for ya! (without having experienced it, obviously, with my short everything)
One thing to be happy about is that I'm sure your hair is healthy and soft and lovely to feel! I'm at TBL, but half my hair is in a state that makes it tough for me to be happy with my hair at all, so you've got health and shine where I've got length, and I'd trade! :)

Recently joined the forum and am now officially at the waist length. However, the hair tends to compact so much that it looks more like shoulder length in a bun. Wonder if it will get better with increasing length. The ends are fairy-tailing something awful, but trying not to trim until at least hip length is achieved. Didn't cut for 2,5 years and barely any split ends (knock on wood). When I was younger, I had quite a long hair, probably at the hips, but then for a number of years it's been cut shorter and shorter until I had a bob one day and regretted it two days later. Probably will need about 6-7 years to reach my terminal length. Since I often lose about 100 hairs a day, and my hair growth is average, I think my terminal length is probably at the hips anyway. I am just curious what it is. For now, hip length is going to be my next goal. Since I am really tall, it would probably take at least another two years to grow into it.

Welcome ukrworld!
Length shot I just had to share (also put it in TBL by Christmas thread but I'm over excited) TBL is just so close! I can feel it's just creeping past BCL when wet but it feels like hip still dry. I don't really know what it looks like but I can now, proudly, do JJJ's pretzel bun with two wraps before the pull through!

Sorry it's sideways. Don't know how to fix that. My top finishes as just about TBL as far as I can tell from finding my TB and trying to arrange my top to sit there!

Ugh, I understand this completely. I hit waist in June-ish and I'm still pretty far from hip. It'll probably be at least February before I hit hip dry, and even then, it'll be a while for my hemline to catch up.
Ukrworld, I doubt your terminal length is hip length. You'd be surprised at how long hair can grow. Most people can make it to at least classic if they really work hard. :)

Wonderful hair everybody! :applause I can't wait to see LLL's monthly length shot!
You must have missed it. Here it is:
My hair appears to have shrunk, but my husband measured it at 84 cm. I measured it at 83 cm last month. I hereby banish the trolls! I only trimmed the racers this month so I don't lose too much ground with my length progress.

Don't feel bad, Laura! Just take a look at my hair on the wavies thread and you will see why you should be perfectly delighted with your hair - I know I would be! I love my hair, I just feel like it doesn't grow fast enough for me, ha ha!
Thanks, LLL. :flower:
You're welcome.

We can whine together. It grows soooo slowly! Anytime you are waiting for something to happen it seems to take longer.

Some gorgeous hair on this thread!
Rags -- I know you've had a rough hair time of late with your meds. I think your hair looks incredible and I wouldn't have guessed you've had any problems. I adore your hair.

In response to LLL: Yes, I was wondering if I had missed it or if you had been busy when I wrote that. Your hair always looks so long and sleek though! We've been roughly in the same length area for a good while so I really don't think your growth rate is as slow as you make it sound :o I tried the helix bun but I couldn't get it to look nearly as good as yours and it didn't really want to stay up but I'll blame the hair stick I was using for being too heavy :p

So long and shiny! You're pretty close to TBL too! Is that your natural hair color? :)

I never really think about it being sleek though. I'm always worried about the ends looking tattered and thin. Crazy, I know, because it actually looks thick and healthy at the ends (though not quite as thick as I want yet... the bottom 3-4" are a teeny bit see-through in good lighting and have a notable taper in my braids). I know it probably isn't growing as slow as it seems to me. It's just waiting for it to grow... makes it seem like it is taking a long, long time, lol. Keep trying on that helix bun. It's a very pretty bun.

Oh I'd definitely trade unhealthy TBL for healthy hip! It only took me about a year to get from hip to TBL, but all my damage will take three years of growth to rid myself of it. (Woe!)
I grow the exact average of 1/2"/month, I know I would be very frustrated if it grew any shorter, so I applaud your patience!

It will take a year and a half for me to make it from hip to BCL, and probably about two years from hip to TBL. <sigh> It's a long time. Even though my growth rate appears to be slightly lower than average, I also have a very low shed rate. Because my shed rate is low (about 26 hairs a day) I think it could be possible for me to make it to super lengths, even with my slower-than-average rate of growth. I grow at about 1 cm, or slightly under, each month.

Rags and Laura - gorgeous hair!
I'm ignoring mine, I refuse to look at it til winter solstice when I plan to trim. In the meantime it is braided at night and put into a sleep cap, and in the day it is safely tucked away in some form of bun with a beak clip or claw. I am fighting the urge to measure.....puts tape measure away.

Thanks alisaxmarie, :) my hair is color treated but I try to keep it healthy as possible. I don't blow dry and barely ever use heat. I color only the new growth about every 2 months. Naturally Im dishwater blonde/light brown. Right now this is the longest it's ever been naturally. I use to wear extensions.
