I'm maintaining all next year, and the thing I'm looking forward to the most is the end of my braid getting thicker!
We'll support each other 8)
^Count me in! XD I think I'm at waist, maybe it's not solid(I guess I have a sort of U hemline ???), but my longest hairs are there :3 I'll be microtrimming and maintaining for all of next year, though I want to reach hip first.
Here's a photo: http://i777.photobucket.com/albums/yy54/amai_lucia/523A781B-CD19-462F-9B2D-CC4D61C5BA03_zpsdp5rzwwb.jpg (http://s777.photobucket.com/user/amai_lucia/media/523A781B-CD19-462F-9B2D-CC4D61C5BA03_zpsdp5rzwwb.jpg.html)

I don't have a proper camera so I haven't been taking length shots, but I took one with my camera phone and even though this is basically a "growing out dye" photo collage it includes a length shot so I'm going to post it here too. I'm still maybe 2 months from reaching BCL, but atleast my hair looks somewhat longer compared to the photo taken at the end of the year and I'm pretty much at the same point where I was when I chopped off 2 inches at christmas, only with a slightly better hemline.

Hehe thanks as well veryhairyfairy(hopefully i haven't written veryfairyhairy, I keep mixing it up :S). I'm also excited to start! I want to thicken my hemline a bit and get rid of some of the worst damage...but I don't want to get rid of the red ombre! I love it too much <3 Also, I second Johannah, your signature is just awesome! XD
rags - Thank you so much :) The black is my natural hair colour and the red is manic panic(over bleached-to orange ends). I wish my hair could be red without bleaching, but oh well..I'm content with only the ends being red sooo :D

My sister's hair is just about tailbone-length by now. Meanwhile, I'm still plugging along at trying to get hip-length waves.
That in itself doesn't irk me--it's that Mom bugs me WAY more than she bugs my sister about how my hair is too long and I should cut it shorter. Although it probably helps that my sister does a lot of French twists and keep her hair "hidden" as opposed to my preference for braids.

First notice-able growth in a while (funny how its only noticeable to the person and not the DH haha)
Hoping to graduate by the end of summer, although I'm in the TBL by Christmas 14 because I am all about attainable goals.
I love lurking and seeing everyone's hair that's a similar length and how their routines are changing to accommodate that. I will be trying LLL's scalp only washing technique soon!

Hi guys, I'm checking in!
I just reached waist! I posted the picture already in my 2nd LHC anniversary topic.. but. here it is:
http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/nn291/scythegirl/hairwaist.jpg
Growing my hair has been awesome... Some days I wanted to cut it, but I'm happy I decided to stick to my goals
I've been changing my hair routine quite often, and tried several things. Like, CO, SLS free shampoo, stretching washes, oiling, deep treatments, henna.
So far, the best things I've done to my hair were: henna, using hair ties without metal & stretching washes.
Basically... kind of 'neglecting' my hair, not pampering too much (aside froman occasional oil treatment) have been the best thing.
I started to get my first split end between APL and BSL or so. And now, I have a lot more! :( I never had split ends before, but then, my hair was chin length so obviously there was no time to develop split ends. The ends would be cut anyway.
I don't mind them because they are not really noticeable, but I hope it won't get extremely bad in the future. I'm going to do a S&D session I think. I did one before, but now I'm really going to take time for it :)
I'm so excited to see what my hair will be like at tailbone!!
I think the awkward growing stages are over... The fun part begins :) Waist was my first goal, let's see how long my hair can get.
Good luck, ladies!

That's me here! :D
I'm hovering somewhere around waist right now. Tailbone was my goal when i first signed up here, now it's classic. I need to get to tailbone first though, to see if i want it any longer.
Right now i stopped trimming and started hennaing my hair, hoping to thicken it so that i won't need trims. I wanna see some improvement in length for goodness' sake :(

Welcome to all the newcomers!
This is such an exciting thread, because we enter it at waist, which is really what I consider the beginning of out-of-the-ordinary length hair. By the time we graduate from this thread, we definitely have super-length hair. It's really fun to watch everyone's progress from having long hair to have LONG :rockerdud hair.

Oooh, pretty! I love braid and bunwaves because they are so uniform and smooth, but then I have that feeling "but it's so much longer than it looks right now!" (I imagine that's what wavies and wurlies and curlies feel on a daily basis!)

I love this thread, because it takes longer to graduate and when you do you have this loooo~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ng hair and it's just fabulous. I had fun giving the family pets long red hair today by draping my hair over their heads! :rollin:
Only the doggies would sit still long enough for us all to laugh at them, the kitties just got freaked by the attention and had to mosey. I also draped my hair over my brother's head and that was hilarious! (I just realized I should've taken pics of the doggies, darn it!)

I'm at can-I-call-this waist again after my trim, and I love several different buns. My top three are the cinnamon bun, lazy wrap, and the Nautilus. I still occasionally do the pencil bun - but when I'm being casual, and I just leave a "tail" hanging out. :)

I have been avoiding measuring and completely forgot about my obsession with making waist length. Well, I measured and I'm a half inch past waist!!! Yipee!! I'm back on my way to hip or BCL. :-) Oh how I've missed you hip length.

I feel like everyone here has this problem. "My goal seemed so long but now that I'm here it's just not long enough." Goodness. We may be a little loopy. :)
Also. How do people respond to multiple quotes in one post?
It seems pretty common after hanging out here a while. I know my hair hardly feels long, but when I see other people with hair the same length, I think it is so very long and pretty. (The same thing sometimes happens with people whose hair is actually shorter. It's disconcerting.)
About the multiple quotes: I've been wondering this for a while, too!

This one happens to others as well? It's like, "Hey, look at that beautiful long hair" only to realize it's lovely but significantly shorter than mine. I always feel a little like my perceptions are skewed concerning my own hair. I tend to forget how long it actually is, and remember it as waist-length-ish. A friend of mine has hair almost to tailbone that she keeps calling waist length, too. Odd.

Well all, since I reached TBL last Christmas and am now just 1.25" short of Classic, I guess I'm graduating to the "Tailbone to Classic" thread. I'll miss you all and hope to see you soon as I plan on maintaining for awhile once I reach Classic as I need to thicken up my hemline. :p. Happy growing all! :joy:

Some gorgeous photos on here of late. This thread seems to be moving fast (or maybe its that I have been super busy!) lately so my apologies for not commenting individually. But I love pictures and there's been so much eye candy on here of late!
I think my hair is flirting with hip right now. I find hip difficult to determine on myself so I'll post a photo in a few weeks when I'm feeling more confident. It definitely looks like its had a bit of a growth spirt with the warmer weather though!

Hey peeps. I guess I will lounge in here for a couple of years. After cutting my FTL hair back to waist...growing to hip and cutting back to waist again...I think I will grow again. At least to hip, maybe to TBL. I am not sure I can handle classic+ again. It was too much of a pain for me. Anyway, I cut all the old sun-in out of my hair and am growing virgin hair this time, which is a LOT thicker than my bleached hair was.
I have been off the boards for some time now. I am a full time college student during the school year and work full time summers but I will try to pop in here! I started out at this length clear back when I joined 5 years ago so it's like square one for me.
The problem I am having is that my thicker virgin hair won't stay in the same buns I could manage with thinner hair. I am just now able to do an L infinity bun. (30"). LWB has been my go-to but I can do a nautilus most of the time. Gibralter is really my go-to and if I secure it with a spin pin and hairspray, it will even stay all day! I use sticks. I do have a fork but my hair doesn't seem quite right for it yet. I have long layers in my hair so that makes it trickier. Let me look for a pic...
Ok I was not yet at waist in this pic but this is right after I had the layers put in and cut back to wait to remove the last of the sun-in:
http://i393.photobucket.com/albums/pp17/Poetry4me75/DSC02840a_zps48fefcdf.jpg (http://s393.photobucket.com/user/Poetry4me75/media/DSC02840a_zps48fefcdf.jpg.html)
I have gained a whopping inch since then. My hair has grown very slowly the last year or so, maybe 1/4" a month which is super annoying. I used to get a solid 1/2" a month. Anyway, TBL is 38" on me. Hip is like 35". Either way I have awhile to go.

I JUST CUT MY HAIR :tmi:
I'm still a bit shaky!! I cut it back to waist. My ends were really thin and really dry/split ends and I still had some layers left. Now my hair is one length with a thicker hemline. It doesn't look like there's so much off because my ends were really wispy because of damage (I guess?). It feels so soft right now!! :happydance:

To be honest, it doesn't look much shorter at all!! I don't get it! I've trimmed with Feye's method, and I did it three times, 1 inch at a time (to be sure I did it right :p) So I thought my length would be 30", but I just measured and it's 31.5". :disco:
Edit: picture. My hands are at hip!

There's a new spa in town which is reportedly very good in terms of haircare and quality, so I dropped by yesterday and got a sample bottle of Ouidad Curl Quencher conditioner to try. It was marked down even FURTHER from 2.99 to 1.99, which I find helpful. Word shall come tomorrow on whether my hair shows any difference from Tresemme's Curl Hydration conditioner.

Sorry I haven't posted much... Been so busy preparing to move! I'm still contemplating a biggish trim, but I think I'm almost at tailbone, so I might see where I'm at when I have time for a length shot first.
WaitingSoLong- I love your natural color- it has highlights! Thicker hair is a great problem to have. :) Those were mostly the buns I could do at your length. Do you like French braiding to start buns? That can distribute the weight better, and give the braid end more taper so that it's easier to bun. I wish I had practiced it more when I was at waist. Now that my hair is longer, the ends try to braid themselves and tangle, and it takes forever.
Johannah- Your new ends look beautiful, like the rest of your hair. :D I just love U hemlines. You're definitely still close to hip!

Hi everyone!
I just cut off a lot of my hair- about a good four to five inches (which is actually tragic, I was only looking for a two inch cut at most)! It's back to just a little bit over WL for the tip, where it was roughly, looking at my old photos about two years ago... Five inches might not be a lot for some of you, but I am a damnably slow grower!
After a mini breakdown (I'm actually a bit ashamed of that), I'm here and more determined to regrow my hair back to TBL (my dream length!), which I had just about reached with the tip of my hair at my old length.
This time around though.... I want a lot less splits, which was actually the main reason I found myself in the hairdresser's seat today. I'm hoping for about halfway to TBL by the end of this year, considering the rate my hair grows at. This was of course, when I was blowing it dry every night- so now I'm going to try and reduce the heat. Does argan oil help with hair growth as well?
Also just wanted to say that everyone's hair looks so beautiful on here!
Johannah
May 17th, 2014, 09:37 AM
Crimson.threads, you don't need to be ashamed! Argan oil is great for hair, it definitely will keep it healthy. You can try other oils as well (coconut oil, olive oil, jojoba oil, avocado oil, almond oil, ...) or SMT (4 parts conditioner without silicons, 1 part honey and 1 part aloe vera gel).

Well, I suppose I belong here: 32.5" which is right around hip for me!
It is a deep U hemline with fairytale ends. The longest I've ever gotten was BCL with fairytale ends, and I hope to make it to TB this time and maintain until my hemline thickens up a bit. So glad to have some support this time around! :)

So being lazy (and unable to sleep), I took a late-night shower at 10 and tried out my Ouidad Curl Quencher sample.
It's very thick and creamy, and smells lovely. After rinsing it out, my hair felt RIDICULOUSLY heavy and thick. Coming from someone with a nearly four-inch ponytail of coarse hair, that's not as good as it seems.
My hair feels and smells great, although it's still pretty damn heavy. I combed almond oil into it very easily, put it in my post-shower braids, and currently it feels smooth and buttery. Time to sleep and see the difference between my normal braid waves and my impending ones.

Argan oil costs a lot of money if you compare with other oils. Most people use it as a leave in (a couple of drops after you washed your hair or just daily). You can try to do a heavy oiling (with argan or another oil). Some people do this twice a week, others twice a year, it depends on your hair. Try different things to find out what your hair needs ;)

Welcome new members and welcome back, WSL! :flower:
It's been a super busy and stressful week (finals and family cr@p), but I had some wonderfully nice interactions because of my hair!
I wore it down (while I was not accompanied by my SO) for the first time in like 7 months for my finals, and the feedback made me so warm and fuzzy and grateful! :o
There was a ton of the inevitable "it's so long" comments from friendly acquaintances, but I managed to make it not-awkward by joking about how I have to hide my hair because it's like my hippie/freak flag and I want to seem normal. ;)
I think the best one, though, was a friend in my Biology class who was talking to me normally, and then happened to see that my hair was slightly pooled my lap; he went off an a super loud and flabbergasted tangent about how long it was! (and compared me to Merida from Brave, that was a huge compliment -even if my hair is pretty straight, and I could only dream of those curls...-)
On the one hand, it was so lovely to have something unique and attention grabbing, but on the other hand, I'm glad that I can (and do) wear it up all the time so that I can remain mostly anonymous.

I'm slowly inching my way back towards hip!
Took the picture in my signature a few days ago. I seem to have been able to maintain the thickness most of the way back down towards hip, as my go-to buns at this length aren't quite working exactly as they did before.

My hair has more tangles when I braid it, I noticed. Now I use an anti-klit spray with argan oil. It makes my hair soft and SO easy to detangle, I love it!

I'm trying to go from waist to tailbone length... I find that my hair stays untangled in a braid because my hair is so fine, if I leave it down, it gets really tangled. I love argan oil as well, Johannah, it really helps to keep my hair untangled when I do have it down!

I actually find that all my hair's thickness made my hair look SHORTER. It doesn't help that I'm short, and so I find that fairy-tale ends and a u-hem break show the length much better than a blunt and straight hem.

Lots of lovely hair since I last posted. This thread is really moving along. In my last post a few pages back I had posted wavy hair length which is the maximum I can manage without flat ironing and today I am posting maximum curl shrinkage and showing it stretched. The bottom of my shirt is brushing bcl. This is how I like to wear my hair down as it is all compacted. Since I see a lot of angst regarding shrinkage, I thought I'd post a positive post. Because i still have a few inches i'm thinking so my ends stay nice i should micro trim every 2-3 months otherwise i only grow inches worth and end up having to cut it because of the white dots .
WOW! I love how thick and soft your ends look, I can almost feel them!
I'll tell ya, going no-trim you might not have even been growing more than you would with trims added in, because of breakage and S&D. That's something I've been looking out for on my own hair, too. And if you were/are seeing white dots and splits appearing so quickly I bet it's going to be a lot more manageable now. :)

Thanks!! I was wondering that because it grew but seemed to stay around the same length, I've now decided to micro trim but every three months about 1/2 so I still see growth.

Wow, bunzfan, your hair is getting gorgeous by the day! It really is stunning, love the colour, the shine, the waves, the length, everything about it. Though you trimmed it hasn't shortened the length one bit. Maybe you are having a growth spurt after the trim :D
Btw, do you still apply on a regular basis?

Bunzfan, it looks perfect. So much thicker and healthier at the ends, and surprisingly, it even looks longer since the trim. Maybe the thinness was making it appear shorter somehow.
December 5th was my last trim. No plans to trim until January 1st. Seeing this is making me want to give it a trim, even though I know I don't need to trim it! I need to stop looking at this now, not trying to be rude. Just got to think self-preservation. Ha ha!
But seriously, my regular oiling with coconut and shea butter every night really is making my ends divine. I have been doing S&D and finding fewer and fewer splits. I have to be careful to only trim ACTUAL splits rather than just cutting anything that looks funky. My last S&D session I found 33, whereas a few months ago I was finding hundreds. Most of them are in my last bits of layers near the hemline. I am eager to take off an inch in January and hopefully get some very smooth ends (and maybe get rid of that last hemline layer while I'm at it).

I'm finding lots of split ends near my hemline. I'm needing to do S+D almost weekly and I've got newish scissors (bought last month) and it's driving me crazy. I did a sulphate wash today to clarify a bit in the hope of improving the ends since they were feeling a bit sticky today. I just can't find an oil/ dryness balance that works for me. It's frustrating and although my hair looks healthy I'm being drawn to cut an inch or so to get rid of more bleach but I don't want to lose the length. It touches my jeans now! I've put a coney conditioner in to see if that helps. Although it'll probably just make my hair too slippery to put up tomorrow.

Try putting a leave-in in your hair instead of oil, or just leave the ends as is after a clarifying wash. Maybe that will help?

Holy crap! When did my hair get long? I mean, it's not looooooooooonnnnnnnnnggggggg, but it's practically at hip! I still have virtually no splits (after the big cut last August that removed over 4" of old damage) and no taper. I wash every 3-4 days, and wear it up about 80% of the time. I use Herbal Essences (sulfates and cones are my friends) and sometimes a coney serum.
I just wanted to share the pic - I got excited.

Been away for a bit due to travel and a house guest. Lots of beautiful photos of late!
I wore my hair down the other day for the first time in ages. I got some nice compliments. I also wondered about my hair habits. I tend to wear it up all the time, which I'm not sure is my best look. I'm pondering if I should do something different...
Otherwise, I'm microtrimming often and enjoying feeling my hair get thicker while still growing a bit. The thickness and health of my hair seems to be most important to me right now and I'm okay with that!

I know this is a super common thing to suggest: have you noticed an increase in splits since you started using the new scissors? Even new ones can be dull enough to cause problems.
It definitely sounds like buildup. I get a sticky dry feeling when I have either product or hard water buildup on my ends, so to cover all my bases I try to chelate right after (or during) a clarifying session:
One or two tablespoons (whoops, I see you're in the UK; 15-30mL) of lemon juice, or ACV, or white vinegar, or other very acidic thing, either added to your shampoo mix while you clarify, or added to your conditioner and left on for a bit. Works a treat and is not drying like a clarifying treatment can be.
Hope you find a non-cut solution!

(bolding mine) :)
I had similar thoughts after being complimented out of the blue so many times when I wore my hair down (having NEVER been complimented while wearing my hair up). It started me thinking about my personal pros and cons of wearing updos 99.99% of the time.
In the end, I decided that there are many more 'pros' than cons (like the fact that I really like my anonymity in classes), but I have started wearing it down more when I'm with my SO so that I can feel prettier sometimes. Mechanical (detangling) damage be darned, I want to feel like a princess!
It has been kind of strange getting used to having it get in my way, because the last time I wore it down regularly I was just barely at waist, but it's good to get more used to it since it'll be this length and longer for a long, long time. :D

Let's straighten out these quote tags that have carried over for a few posts now... :p
I hope TBL feels properly long! I'm not sure how much longer I'll be able to grow and still have a hemline I like. And I did just that when I had to maintain at hip for a while - unchanging hair became boring and I cut some face-framers from cheekbone all the way to BSL. Mostly, I'm happy with them, except for the increase in braid shred.
Your hair is looking really nice! You can really see the length gain over the last five months in your signature pictures. :)

Thank you, I have seen noticeable growth in the last 5-6 months. I hope my next length photo is even better. I've been snipping splits, so I hope I didn't thin my hemline too much with it. Most of my splits are in the face-framing parts and the last hemline layer which is 1-2" above my hemline. In other words, the hair that hasn't had a trim in a long time.
Yes, I hope TBL feels properly long, too! It's easy to become bored without any new hair goals/plans on the horizon. The reason I want my face framing bits gone is the braid shred. I liked my bangs for a long time, too. I still like them, but don't want to always have them, if that makes any sense. I decided clip-ins will be my friend when I want the look of bangs. Variety is the spice of life. Hair boredom can set in if we aren't learning new styles or making new goals.

I think it grew back in stages because it seemed like every few months I would notice lots of new short hairs (I was actually worried I was just shedding out the new growth over and over, so I kept putting off the measuring). I am TB when wet! Another inch or so til i get there dry. Had a huge shed last year due to 2 surgeries and long recovery time. All kinds of 4 inch and 6 inch whispies around my ears and neck. Trying to decide if staying at TB a while and trimming to stay there is a better idea than getting to classic in a hurry. So far microtrimming doesn't seem to be thickening up my ends significantly.
I am another who thinks that at classic I may finally feel my hair is long, even tho it is 41 inches right now!

I sympathize with growing out sheds at a long length, I'm there myself right now (lost at least half an inch over several months). As for maintaining for hemline thickening, you might notice some improvement if you do that now, but you may also want to wait until the regrowth is closer to the hem... it could be seriously frustrating to not grow AND not thicken the ends.
Thought I would post a couple of progress pics: My hands are at waist and at hip level. I am feeling quite pleased. My hair is beginning to feel satisfyingly long in the shower now - I find myself wondering how it ever got to be all the way down there - lol. I bet it will get even more exciting as it gets even longer! 12 inches to go till my final goal!

Wow, gorgeous hair Sharysa!
I've pretty much given up on trying to get much growth these days. I'm feeling a bit obsessive about thickening up my ends and making my hair super-healthy. Right now that means micro-trimming so I'm focusing on that at the moment. I'm a bit jealous that others are growing, but the more I focus on getting my hair happy, the better I feel about my hair. I think its the right decision for me now.

Wow, Sharysa and Sarahlabyrinth, what wonderful shiny hair you both have!
I'm joining Crumpet's maintaining club. I'm going to be in this thread forever and ever, religiously trimming back to just a tiny bit past waist length. Because that will help thicken up my hemline and magically make my hair better in every way, right?
Seriously speaking, my plan for the summer includes making a Dutch braid or a braided vortex bun, sticking in a few spin pins and forgetting all about my hair. I cut off just under an inch last week, and plan to not to check my length again until I'm due for another trim in August.

I'll tell ya, now that I have the knowledge that it's thicker, I can feel a difference from how it has felt/handled basically my whole life! I don't think it's ever been this thick before! :o And the difference between its thinnest (about 3") to now (a little over 4", but inconsistent about how much) is kind of crazy in so short a time. I DID recently (months and months ago) start eating much more protein than I had been... :hmm:

You can rest easy in the knowledge that when you do start growing again, you'll have a super healthy mane that will be super impressive at long lengths.
The grass is always greener; I know I can't wait to maintain (for YEARS) and watch some of my length peeps move on to classic and beyond, but there's going to be that underlying knowledge that I could be X length by now, ya know?

Hehe! Actually, it is a bit exciting, although a bit more difficult to measure than length. I've become much more zen about my hair journey than I was when I started. I was SO impatient when I first joined. Now, I'm enjoying the process much more. I was a bit sad when I realized I had already internally decided to focus on health and thickness over length, but it feels right so I'm going with it.
Thanks for the support!

I just found out something. When I joined LHC (on 16 february I think, not sure) I measured my hair and it was 82 cm. Then I started using a new tape (that hardly measured 82 cm). For the last almost 4 months I've been worried cuz it seemed like my hair is not growing. It's only 83 cm when I use the new tape. (And wow 1 cm for 4 months?!) Today I decided to try the old tape and it measures 86 cm. So it means I actually got 4 cm for 4 months! Yey! I think I'll use this the old tape from now on. :D And yey, I can finally say my hair is 33 inches and not 32.

I think I will be in this thread forever. I was creeping past BCL at 37.5 inches, but this weekend I just had to cut off some ends. They were so fried - I trimmed off about 3.5 inches, putting me back at about hip length with 34 inches. The good news is that I believe that was the last of my dreadful, heat-damaged pre-LHC hair, and my taper is now hugely diminished. It feels and looks a lot better. But it still hurts to go so far backwards. :(

It probably feels a lot nicer now, and decreased taper is awesome; just think how thick the ends of your braids will be!

I think my hair is about tailbone now..... When i sit down to drive etc my hair, if down, hits my legs and the other day when I washed it and stretched it out {in shower} I think it hit tailbone. Hard to tell with the near constant braid waves. Actually my hair is in braids now and the tails just brush my thighs when sitting down so I can only assume I am very close. However I believe I need to trim off about 3" {cries} and am wondering what to do about summertime hair care. I might even start a thread on topic. My youngest is a big swimming pool fan and since I did not sign her up for camp this year have been thinking of going to pool with her. I am not sure how to care for my hair with the sun and chlorine. Am debating cutting off damage before the little breaks spread up but am scared I will need to trim again after swimming a lot this year.
note: I have been trimming my hair once a year with the request that they remove only the bare minimum needed for health... that has been a half to a full inch/yr trimmed every year for past 3 so I might be thinking the ends are worse than they are.... I always think they are going to cut off 3-4 inches. Normally I would trim my hair in mid to late August when I take my girls in for their beginning of school year cuts. Right now I believe I am only an inch away from a solid tailbone length .... next year I am hoping to be working on Classic instead of tailbone. My annual pictures are in my profile.

Q I consider tailbone that little end of back spine almost at classic... how do others define it? I get so confused by halfway between waist and classic because I am beyond that but if I reach down to to my tailbone it is basically just under my seat so for my hair to be that long I will be sitting on it....

I consider tailbone the end of back spine, but for me it's far away from classic! For me hip and tailbone are close to each other, but classic is milestones away. I think that it definitely depends on the shape of each body.

Well, I can feel the end of my tailbone because I am seriously lacking in cushion on the back end. So, it is the very end of my tailbone, the final bone in my spinal column. I don't know if I would be sitting on it, though. Not that you really want to know about my anatomy this much, but for me, it's BCL + 4" = TBL = Classic - 4". Also, Hip + 5" = BCL.

I assume you are referring to my hair. Lol. It's not bun waves. I went to bed with wet hair down and spread out behind me on my pillow and woke up with it like that! I've never had it happen before but I brushed it out pretty soon after since I needed to bun my hair. I've been debating if I like the curliness or not but I don't think it loses me too much length so I'm going with yes. Hehe.

I posted the picture on the curly thread to see what they thought. I'm planning to clarify next week so I'll do another typing picture after that. Was thinking maybe it was the extended drying time? Usually I comb it as it dries if I'm awake, at the very least running my fingers through it but I'd always assumed that if my hair was supposed to be curly it would go frizzy when straight but it doesn't. Seems to depend rather a lot on drying methods.
Lizzie_Bennet
June 5th, 2014, 08:06 AM
FireFromWithin, that recently happened to me too! The past two washes, I have let my hair air dry without touching it and when it dried, it looked almost exactly like yours. I think like lapushka said, I'm going to do a hairtyping picture soon. I know what you mean about deciding if you like it; I came to the same conclusion, since it doesn't affect the length much, I think I like it! I see you changed your type to 1c already, so if you don't mind my asking, what did you have it as before?
FireFromWithin
June 5th, 2014, 09:16 AM
Lizzie_Bennet I don't remember, but it was straighter. I've always had straight hair but then I've always combed it out while drying. I'd always thought I needed to damp bun to get that kind of curl but apparently not! Although my hair has always held a curl really well, maybe that was a sign. But since going no cones I've had more waves even with combing my hair which is why I changed it, occasionally I get the odd ringlet. I need to double check the guidelines I think.

Ingrid, that is really inspiring to see. You are improving in length and in thickness at the same time through microtrimming. Looks lovely. Your texture looks nice, too. How much are you taking off when you microtrim, and how often are you doing it?
I hope to do the same with mine, so I'll be here a while. I'm just barely at hip, and just did my first self microtrim on June 1st after going no trims since December 5th. I took off a teeny 5mm, and didn't really get into my hemline with it, but I'm afraid to take off more than that at a time since some months I only gain .25". I could do every other month, and take of 1 cm, but it just feels like so much more to me mentally, even though it's the same. Anyway, I'm hoping for fresher and nicer feeling ends every month, and can't wait to get rid of my last layer about 2" above my hemline and my face-framing bits (which are at the bottom of my brastrap right now).

Well I have also jumped on the self trimming bandwagon as last time the stylist had so little to do and I paid a lot for 5 min of her time! I will go back for professional trim when I feel my hair is out of shape or maybe for my 50th birthday or when I want bangs or if I feel I am causing splits with my mid-grade scissors (I barely have any so can monitor for this I think)--lots of possibilties--until then chop off tiny bits carefully so as not to disrupt the curls.
Ingrid
June 5th, 2014, 08:43 PM
LauraLongLocks and TrapperCreekD, thanks so much for the welcome! It's really exciting to finally see progress in the condition of my hair. A couple of years ago I had a very bad incidence of inadevertently pulling out my hair because of a stressful time and also went through a huge shed because of the shampoo/conditioner I was using to wash. Not to mention all the hair dyeing which completely fried my hair and the layers... I was pretty devastated.
Microtrimming is a must for me because most of my hair is so damaged. I stopped dyeing 16 months ago when my hair was APL after a reasonably big chop, and didn't trim at all since then until April this year which meant even though I was keeping my hair up pretty much all the time, the ends were in pretty bad condition. I did a little S&D but I found that wasn't really enough for me so I asked my mum to trim off about 1,5cm in April. In May, she trimmed about 0,5 cm for me and same for the start of June (this month). So in total I think I've lost only about 2,5cm in length so far, but it has made a big difference (at least to me). I plan on continuing trimming 0,5cm or slightly less every month until the damage is gone.
So yes, LauraLongLocks, I feel your pain about growing out layers. I have lots of them because I had a layered cut a couple of years ago, because of S&D, my ex-fringe which is now about BSL, and also baby hairs (most of which are about 15cm long now) growing out in places where I had bald patches. I think if you have generally healthy hair which isn't dye-damaged then you could probably get away with trimming even less than 0,5cm every month.
LauraLongLocks
June 5th, 2014, 08:55 PM
I had totally virgin hair before I started using henna on it this year. So, it's not dye damaged. I think if I didn't have to S&D the remaining layer (and not getting rid of splits is not acceptable to me, so I have to S&D since the splits aren't at my longest length), then my hemline would stay thick enough I could microtrim less, but I want to make some progress on this quickly. My last monthly photo was a bit disappointing. I saw some thinning in the middle and one side is growing faster than the other side. I want it to be even and not thinned or fairytailed at the ends.
FireFromWithin
June 6th, 2014, 12:31 AM
I tend to take off half a centimetre to a centimetre every so often, usually looking at the thickness of the tail of a single English braid to judge. I find that S and Ding for ages without trims can leave my ends looking slightly uneven. But I don't get enough growth to feel like I want to microtrim regularly before reaching goal length. Maybe I just need to be more patient!

It's not unusual for hair to grow at different rates, so please don't feel disappointed :) A little trimming straight across every now and then can go a long way! Maybe be a bit less vigorous with S&D, I know I certainly can get carried away with it sometimes. Splits don't really tend to travel quickly all the way along the hair shaft if you're keeping your hair protected and out of the way, so sometimes it's alright to go longer between S&D sessions.

My S&D sessions are never very thorough, so I have reasoned with myself that since I never have more than 15 minutes to do it, it's okay to do it often. I'm trying to only do it once or twice a month now. When I see someone else with severely split hair, I then realize just how very nice mine is. It's very healthy, even if the middle is a bit thin and one side is a bit longer than the other side. I wanted more length before microtrimming, too, but I also really like having an even, split-free hem. My hair is long-ish, so I decided I can creep a little slower towards my next milestone and it won't be the end of the world.

Oh, have a good summer! And I can't wait to see your August length shots. It will be really exciting to see how much you've progressed during that time!

Hey peeps, I just wanted to let you all know that I'll be going to MT on Tuesday the 10th, and there's almost no internet access where I live out there. I might be able to do a quick check-in at the pizza place with WiFi, but for the most part I'll be gone from the boards until the very end of August.
I can't wait to come back and post my August length shots, I may even be TBL by then!!! :D
have a wonderful summer!

My hair is the same way, one side a little longer than the other, but since I wear it up all the time I thought I'll try waiting a little longer before starting microtrimming, but it's hard not to trim after seeing all the wonderful even hemlines here. My last trim was 4/2013 and I was hoping not to trim til 2015 :o

[QUOTE=Sarahlabyrinth;2730645]Thought I would post a couple of progress pics: My hands are at waist and at hip level. I am feeling quite pleased. My hair is beginning to feel satisfyingly long in the shower now - I find myself wondering how it ever got to be all the way down there - lol. I bet it will get even more exciting as it gets even longer! 12 inches to go till my final goal!
As always, your hair looks beautiful. :) Thanking you Komao, nice to see you back again :)!

Oh my, your hair is gorgeous, welcome to the thread! :)
In the second picture, is that natural texture or waves from a bun or braid? (it's really lovely, I'm hoping I can recreate it!)
You're definitely at least an inch (2.5cm) past hip, and that's when it's wurly so you probably are well on your way to BCL! It looks wonderful and thick and voluminous! :D
Thank you very much! :flower: Have a good summer!

I'll still be lurking around for a few days while I finish my packing, but I probably won't be able to post much. I'm so excited to come back with a new length(pic)! :D
I hope you all have a wonderful summer both hair and life wise, and I'll be 'seeing' you all at the end of August! :waving:

Hello!
I've recently passed waist and am on my way to discover terminal :D It has yet to slow down or thin, so it looks like I could make it past tailbone even.
This was march, but I don't have a new pic. Where is hip exactly? I feel like I'm getting close in the front, but from behind I cant tell where that line is.

I would say hip on you is pretty much where your thumb is.

personally I think hip is the widest part of your bottom half but I believe the LHC official how long is your hair thread says when you reach the top of your hip bone in front~~usually a few inches below waist

I'd say an inch above your thumb, where the "carcass" of your hips begins.

I agree with Lapushka, if you're judging from the back - right where your hips widen out.
I'm FINALLY back at waist,2 1/2 months after the evil hairdresser. I'll have to get a length shot soon.

Hello! I just took new pictures of my hair and wanted to show you all. It's just past waist and there's still a loooong way to go till it reaches tailbone. The ends are thin, but for now I think I'll stick to trimming only a couple times a year.
I was just experimenting with sheabutter and my hair got so incredibly soft and nice and non-fluffy:

I usually never wear it braided anymore because of the taper, but for future reference:

Nanna, I don't think your taper is bad at all. You've got a nice gradient down the hair. It will likely gradually thicken up when you get to the length you wish to maintain.
Has anyone else had their hair become curlier? If I go to bed with wet hair, even after combing it I get much more pronounced waves than I used to and more than a few large ringlets through the length. I tried plopping the other day but have up as I can't not lean on my hair while its down for the entire drying time. I may see what happens with a diffuser but for now it's quite nice that some of the ringlets actually survive brushing when dry so it almost looks like I've had it bunned!
Still finding hip frustrating though as it just touches the swell of my hips and the part of my back that starts o curve out wards towards my bottom so it feels so close! The longer it's at hip the shorter hip feels!

Nana, your hair is beautiful! I also don't think your taper is bad at alll. I love the colour of it!

Nanna -- you have lovely hair! My hair also tends towards fluff so I know what you mean! I agree -- I don't think your taper is bad at all. If you want blunt ends you could microtrim, but that's just a preference and it sounds like you want to grow. Keep going!!

http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=11328&d=1402395148 If you stick to trimming 3-4 times a year, the thickness will eventually travel down and you'll have less taper. It is certainly not the worst taper I've seen, though. Looks very nice. You have pretty hair.

Oh, thanks you all! :) Yes, I want to grow it, but I really can't decide whether to trim more or just go as long as I want and then maintain. I'm glad that it doesn't look horrible (in the pictures it actually looks okay, though most days I just don't see it in the mirror). I'll keep growing then and hope it doesn't get any thinner at the ends.
Dessi, I love your haircolour! So elegant.

Hi ya'll! I want to join. I'm 32" WL but just cut in long layers to give some volume to my lifeless hair after a major postpartum shed (plus the last of highlighting damaged ends got whacked off so that's awesome, now I have very few splits or white dot ends anywhere and I can enjoy HEALTHY hair). What I'd like to do is enjoy the regrowth hair catching up with the rest of my hair throughout the rest of this year and next year, and enjoy the thickness increase while slowly inching down to tailbone. Or at least to hip. I've never really been past hip, ever, and rarely go past waist, I always get a bee in my bonnet to big chop for some silly whim or another. Now I'd like to go longer while trimming maybe a quarter inch off every six weeks off my ends just to keep those ends thick and healthy.
Here I am now, I'll try to keep everything the same for future progress pics.https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BqHWeMxIIAAGZWn.jpg:small
