I cut around 0,4" off a week ago at the bottom but it almost grew back already? Whut? I'm taking vitamins now, can that be the cause? Anyone?

It may looks dry but it's not. I slept with a braid and did a lazy wrap bun after that, this is the result. :o It's actually quite soft. :o

Thank you! And because I'm growing out layers, and I have fairytale ends, my bottom layer looked really thin and I hated that!! After trimming half an inch, it isn't thin anymore. :happydance:

I last cut in June and i plan on doing a no trim next year and cutting in Jan 2015 a good few inches so i have a really blunt hem that should still bring me to TBL/CL that would be my dream length with a very blunt hem, its a pain growing out layers i've been there i used to cut back to waist every 2 months did that for about a year.

I didn't intentionally do that but, thats what i did for the whole of 2012 and half of 2013  it is looking thicker the longer it goes now the thickness is definitely growing down.

I'm at waist... I guess. And I'd want to grow my hair a little more - either to hip or TBL. My first goal was BSL and it seemed sooo long from the perspective of chin. Will you find a place for a lost-in-goals soul? :)

So, I've reached tailbone, which was my original goal. Now I want classic, but I'm going to maintain here for about a year to grow out some of the bleach damage from 2 years ago and thicken the ends just a little bit. I did my first "maintain" micro trim today. I'll be lurking in this thread and the tailbone to classic thread now. :)

I'm super excited to be joining all the lovely head of hair on this thread. I just hit waist and I hoping to be tailbone by this time next year. Then I plan to maintain until all the bleach is all gone for another year. Then I'll see how I feel.

Here's my length shot.

I'm joining this thread, I need the encouragement to stop trimming. I'm a little OCD over having an even hemline and just trimmed probably 2 inches off in the last couple weeks. My hair is now 29 inches and waist length.

Thanks Amapola! It's funny, I used to think I'd never get my hair this long, and now that it is, I'm thinking, "well that was fast!" Classic used to be some faraway dream and now it could easily happen in less than a year, but I'm taking my time. My hair didn't start feeling long until around hip-length, and I don't want to be overwhelmed by it. This is a good place to maintain for a bit, get used to the length, and thicken it up some.

FireFromWithin, I love the blue!

I'm just about at waist... from the back anyway. When I sweep my hair to the front it looks shorter. I'm aiming for it to reach my hips when I wear it forward. So about 6 inches to go yet -_-

That sounds like where I am and where I want to be (although I wouldn't be surprised if I decide to go longer eventually -- happens to the best of us!).

My wavies drive me nuts...my hair looked SO long the other day and today it looks like its only just grazing waist...grrr.

I have straight hair and I still have days where it feels longer than others... I'm having a short day today. I used to have a thick blunt hemline which made it feel a lot longer than it does now with my stupid layers that are taking forever to grow out!

Layers are the worst...although I do enjoy complaining about them ;) They do make my hair look shorter since you can only really see the length from the back. I'm trying to get rid of them when I start my microtrimming regime in January. I wonder what I'll complain about when they're gone?

So...I started microtrimming today. I got really grumpy about how thin the last ends of my hair were from the layers so I took off about 1/4 to 1/2 inch. I may dust a bit on December 1 and then continue with 1/4 inch trims for a while. I'd love to keep growing, but I want my hair to look and feel thicker. As a finey, I also think that more hair at the hemline will help protect it. My hair is fairly fragile.

I made the mistake of using a coney condishioner a few days ago thinking that maybe I'd over exaggerated the effect it had on my hair. Nope, my ends are horribly dry now but I've got a ridiculous exercise class tonight so I'll have to wash it again anyway. I feel like I might have to microtrim a bit as I'm finding more split ends but I'm only recently at waist and I'm desperate for more length! It feels so short still.

Hear, hear. I know what you mean........hair never does feel quite long enough! After I grew past shoulder length, I thought, 'Oh, my hair's long', then kept growing it, thinking, 'It'll be long once it's past my armpits', then growing some more, 'It'll be properly long at waist', and then joined LHC. Oh no. Waist is not long enough for me! :p

I think I might have to retire from this thread. I cut my hair again this weekend and I've been at waist for two years. I thought if I grew out my layers then I could grow to TBL because my hair would be thicker at the ends and I would be happier,...... but without layers my curls weigh out and I really don't like the way it looks. I need to think again about my desire to grow to TBL, but for now I think I'll stay at waist.

Good luck to all of you on your hair growing journey.

kitschy; Your hair is GORGEOUS! I love how it looks and I think it would look fabulous at TBL as well. I'm curious as to how long it is stretched? :p You could always let t grow and then if you didn't like it, you could cut it back to waist? Just my $.02. ;)

Thanks Hairitic. My hair is about 1/2" from BCL when I stretch it. It was at tailbone stretched in July. I cut 5 or 6" off on July 17th, and brought it up to waist, then I cut layers this weekend. With all the cutting, I am back to, if not shorter, than I was at this time last year. It is kind of discouraging since I wanted to be TBL unstretched. I've come to realize that might just be something that takes many years for me.

You know, Some days I swear the longest bits of my hair are just grazing BCL, and some days it looks and feels like I've somehow*lost* length and it's not even reaching my pants' waistband anymore. Anyone else having hair dysmorphia issues like this at these lengths?

I'm assuming it's caused by my hair fluctuating between its 1a days and it's 1c days, added to the problem I have of looking at my hair too much. ;p

Wohoo I reached waist! Hello everyone!

As my hair was drying the other day I curiously reached down my back and it felt so long.. So I figured I had to take a pic and what do you know.. I'm actually even a bit past waist!
Goal 1 achieved: waist length!
Next up goal 2: healthy hair at waist length..
...then I might continue to goal 3: hip length hair!

Since I'm probably gonna be around waist for a while I thought I might as well join this thread and have somewhere to hang out while I trim and maintain here (and then keep growing!) :D

Thanks, good to hear!

If I look at my hair against something light, there is a clear demarcation line where it's visible when I started to care for my hair (or rather, I quit doing bad things to it). It's much thicker above it, so it surely is growing out healthier.
If I had the guts I would just chop off all the damaged bits but.. I like this length! From now on I will trim back to waist every month this winter. :)

nebulae: welcome, your hair and colour is really pretty ^^

I still cant afford myself a silk pillowcase so I put my silk scarf I bought on second hand long time ago on my pillow, it actually stays pretty good ^^ it is pretty with realistic painted ducks on :)

I found some hairvitamins in my kitchen I had forgotten about, so now I am using those up hoping for a spurt :P.

else it is not much here, keeping my hair warm always under my winterhat (it is big and loose so a bun/braids do fit) but winter has not yet arrived with snow but it is cold and my hair feel dryer so I use more of nightbloomings hairsalve. S&D a lot still so I guess that is why I find it standing still, but I think it is ok because I do feel like my hair is long and I enjoy it, I am past waist and the longest is not super-far from hip so I dont mind :).

will you buy christmas gifts for your hair this year?

I wont (I recetly bought new mini-clawclips) but I am considering buying myself a pretty horn or carved wood comb for my birthday 29 of december, I turn 25 so I want to prioritate myself a present :P

Welcome to all the new people since I was last perusing this thread! And all of the new pictures are so gorgeous! :thud:

I've been trying to keep myself from hair obsessing too much, thankfully finals are coming up in two weeks so I have a distraction!

It's getting down to about 6 weeks until I take the first of my three length photos of the year, and I'm getting very impatient to check my progress. I haven't even looked at it down in the mirror (from the back) in over a month, I want to continue that so I get a b-day surprise in mid-January.

Does anybody else dictate to themselves when they're 'allowed' to check length? Do you find you get impatient toward the end of the waiting period?

I colored my hair for the last time on 25 October and started taking Biotin on the 28th. I have severe roots going on now, with plenty of greys in there, but the growth has been amazing. My roots are at 7/8 to 1 inch at this point. My hair is an inch or two from TBL, depending on the day. My daughter has consented :D to taking a picture of my hair and helping me post it once I am able to. I plan on staying at TB for a while to micro trim and thicken my ends. I have two layers in my hair (the second is about 6 inches shorter than the longest one) and I would like to spend 2014 trimming to even them out. Once that happens it's on to Classic!

I had a really strong urge to measure about a week ago, as it had been about a month since I upped my protein intake and started doing heavy oilings, but I managed to resist whipping out measuring tape. I'm going to try to make it to my birthday (third week in Jan) without measuring. I guess this is a situation where shrinkage works in my favor - I can glance in the mirror and not see any change!

Can't remember if I posted this here already or not. If so, sorry for the spam! Not a totally accurate depiction of the length, my mom was behind the camera and I realized way too late that I'd forgotten to tell her to crouch down a little.

your hair is really pretty :)! my solution for this cold weather is always tyck my hair into my knitted (wool? the yarn you get from sheep) winterhat that is warm but breath at the same time. bigger holes on the outside and a smaller knitted inside (like a double hat) :). I bought it on ebay years ago and still love it, it is big and poofy inside to hold any braid or bun and it gets tighter lowest down so it gets to be a nice warm bag for my hair. even if it is not "that cold" I wear it, sins I know it is super dry outside, my hands are fast to tell me that

and I am guilty too for messuring my hair often, as you say, you never know ;). but now, I am trying to grow my natural hair out and I see it everytime in the mirror, but It still is hard not to messure just in case haha

This is a comparison pic with my last real length shot, on 25/03 this year, where I actually bothered to measure out and scale down my makers. I won't lie, most of the pictures I take of the back of my head are just to check if my 'do is straight! But I made the effort this time, so here we go!

Sooooo... Took a picture today and put it next to a photo from the end of September, just before I started to take care of my hair back again.
In the first picture I had braid waves, so my hair looks a bit shorter than it actually was. The second was taken today, after washing, airdrying and brushing it.

I think there's a huge difference in health, lol. I actually was a bit shocked by it.

P.s. Based on the second picture, I'm a 1c, right? or a 1b?

A month ago I posted a photo (page 372) and I was very sad with my hair as it looked very dry and brittle. Two days later I switched to cone-free/sulphate free, my hair is a lot softer and it does look healthier too. :) There's still dryness on the ends, but they had a billion of Feria box dyes + bleach, I doubt I can make them look better.

Also, VERY close to hips!! I count my back dimples as hips as it's pretty much at the same level.

It is very appreciated! I have quite a bit of taper at the ends, but my hair is so floofy right now that it doesn't show. :p
Valkyriejae, it is two coats of Lush henna over two or three layers of conventional hair color, mostly Feria in dark reds, that faded to orange. My real haircolour is light greyish brown. I actually have plans to do a new round of henna tomorrow, I have at least 1.5 inches of roots now.

A good way to tell is whether or not your hair touches the seat when you sit up straight. If it does, it's tailbone. :)

TheHowlingWolf; I have the same problem. I'm not quite sure where, exactly, TBL is on me . Oh boy, I know! I quess it applies to hair that have some body, but my straight not-overly-thick hair just looks like I've had a huge shed or that my head had been picked by birds and once the layers grow a bit they become so uneven. My layers looked ok I guess when my hair was shoulder to APL length and the layers were freshened up every few months, but why did I let them cut them higher and higher I have no idea...

Hey Ladies & Gentlemen; I had been thinking that I would barely make TBL by Christmas/2013. However, Sunday when I washed my hair, I checked my length in the mirror instead of just sitting on a chair and seeing how close to the seat my hair was. Well, It's only 2" from Classic! So, I'm calling it TBL now! I'll try to get a pic up soon. I'm so thrilled, even though it desperately needs a good trim, which I will be doing in Jan. So, I'm celebrating double this week! :cheer:

I will join! My hair is at hip length now. I'm hoping to get to tailbone sometime in 2014. My ultimate goal is fingertip, but tailbone is getting closer on the horizon.

:cheer:

Here's the pic:

The bottom of my sweater is just about Classic length level on me!

What a wonderful surprise. Congratulations! Beautiful, shiny hair!

Hello, Everyone! I'd like to join. I think I hit waist about a month ago, but finding my waist is a little difficult since I had a baby last year. So I waited a month to be sure. Here is me today. It's 32.25" long. I think I'd like to go to BCL, which I estimate to be 5ish inches away.

Unfortunately, I think I need to do a little more trimming than I've done the last few months because the ends are getting velcro-y, so maybe I'll make it in a year?

I had such a busy autumn that I didn't have time to monitor my length. Well, turns out benign neglect has led me to tailbone or perhaps even a bit past it! Yay!

Here's the length shot I just took (sorry for terrible webcam quality! and I have braid waves too, but I usually always do, so...):

http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g31/darthsnoo/hair/lengthshot112014forlhc_zpsd4c8f267.png

If my hair looks tailbone even with braid waves, I guess I'm ready to migrate onwards from this thread! :O

And for comparison, here's a length shot from a year ago (also with braid waves, and the same shirt too, hehe):

http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g31/darthsnoo/hair/january2013lengthshot-lhc_zpsd47c2971.jpg[/URL]

I'm really pleased with the growth I've had, and will continue to grow till my hair starts annoying me. :D I think I'll eventually settle somewhere between hip and tailbone though, since it seems to be the most comfortable length for me. But for now, I'll still keep growing. My ends look a bit thin but I dunno if I can be bothered to trim yet...

Happy growing, people! :)

My mom chopped off 2 inches (or about 4.5 cm) of my hair at Christmas. My ends needed it even though I had been micro-trimming a lot this past year already. I got rid of a bunch of layers and now my ends actually look somewhat decent. My hair is soft all the way down now, but it feels so short. Not much hair came off as the ends were so wispy and see through. I think it was worth it and maybe in 4-5 months I'll be back to the length I had but with a better hemline! I don't plan to trim in the next 6 months unless something awful happens to my hair. Here's a bad quality picture of The Now.

I'm finally on board! Just had my New Year's trim, lost about 2-2½ inches of weird ends and I'm solid waist aiming for a healthy hemline and TBL. I'm hoping to reach my goal by the end of next year. Se incredibly excited about this! Never thought I'd be able to do it *sheds tear*

Hey, I'm new here and want to join in. My hair length ranges from waist to TBL, but merely looks like between BSL and Hip because of the curls/waves. My original goal is hip while curly, but as I inch toward it, I start to wonder whether to stop there and grow in, look how long it gets or even take a bit of length off to get more of my curls back.
I might post some pics when I found out how (or have enough posts for it).

Your hair looks lovely! I don't measure because I know I could get really obsessive about it (its just in my nature :p). I just check out how it looks. As a result, I don't even really know my growth rate, but I think its about average. I think all of this makes me more zen about the growing process. Maybe do some microtrimming to get rid of your layers slowly? In the meantime, enjoy the beauty of your hair. Its fab!

Thank you, all. It's a thrift-store special on the dress. I measured a lot and looked at my length a lot through December, because I got a trim on the 5th, started taking biotin on the 9th, did my hair up in curls and took a length shot for my anniversary on the 17th, and measured and took a length shot on the 24th to see if I could call waist. So, now that I'm on the monthly length photo project, I'm going to just measure and take length shots on the first of every month. I'm sure that will drive me a lot less crazy.

I've been microtrimming about 3-4 times a year, and the layers are slowly making their way to the hemline. For 2014, I really want to try to make TBL, even if my hemline isn't perfect. So I'm not going to trim at all until 2015. Just S&D sessions. Once I reach TBL, I might go back to my 3-4x a year microtrimming schedule until the last of the layers reach the hemline. I'm not sure yet.

Anyway, I measured at about 29.5" to 29.75" today, which is a full 1/4th to 1/2 inch shorter than I measured a week ago.

ETA: I cross-posted with a few others. Thank you, as well. I didn't mean to exclude anyone by not quoting them.

Thank you. Today, looking at that picture, I guess it does look like waist, and long. Ha! I'm so fickle! I guess it just feels short sometimes. It feels especially short when I see other waist-length hair when I'm out, and it doesn't look particularly long to me. I feel like my hair is long and then I see others with hair my length, and it isn't anything spectacular, so then I feel like mine is short. I suppose I'm just entering the phase where I will have hair that is a remarkable length now, so I need to learn some patience. At least I'm not at a pixie anymore (I still regret the pixie of May 2008!... I had nearly waist length hair before I hacked it on a whim... lice... oh, I wish I had attempted to pick my own head even with the long hair... I didn't even TRY... I just cut it to a very short pixie and used the nit comb every day until I was sure I had every last little critter out of my head... oh if I ever have lice again... I will pick my own head several times a day, and even pay someone to help me... live and learn, I guess...). Sorry for the mini-lice-rant. I hate lice, needless to say.

No measuring or even gazing at my length until February 1st. Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised with my length shot and measurement. Ah, but it is time to trim my bangs. They have grown about 1/2 inch since they were last trimmed on December 5th, and now they are below my eyebrows, driving me nuts. If the bangs have grown, that means the length must have grown, too, right? ;) I think I'll do that semi-permanent pink streak in my bangs I've been thinking about, too. That will be fun.

When I joined just two months ago, I was at MBL, and knew I wanted at least TBL to classic, but was toying with the idea of longer hair. Now my goal is just a bit past knee, at 60". If it looks good there, and I'm still enjoying it, I may go longer. At this point, I'm loving each new half-inch every month, and it doesn't feel long at waist. I know for sure I want hair long enough to be WOW when I wear it down on occasion, and it's not long enough for that yet. ;) This growing of hair seems to easily become addictive.

I guess that all depends on how long you want to stay in this thread. With waves/curls it takes a longer time to reach each new length without stretching. Pull up a chair and have a drink. Would you like some popcorn?

I do know I'll already be in this thread for a year, probably even 2. I'm a little tempted to cut again because I want to eventually get rid of my layers, but if I remind myself that my hair is technically at waist (and is therefore finally starting to get long) I won't want to cut it. My hair might naturally lie farther down if I had taken the picture on a wash day; it tends to shrink up the longer it's gone without a wash.

Your hair looks amazing, as always but the growth is just great. I'm shooting for TBL by Xmas 2014 but if I don't quite make it at least I won't have long to reach that goal. :D

Thanks Hairitic and Komau! Hairitic, your hair is wonderfully glossy and such an amazing length,am so looking forward to my hair being that long, that is thudworthy-length!

Komau, yes, I do enjoy looking at the put your hair photos here thread too, and isn't it wonderful to see all the differing hair types in all their beauty here on the LHC. All the variations in hair and all of them beautiful!

Hi everyone, I am just quietly lurking here and hoping to be here "officially" in the next few months I still have a couple of inches to go before I reach waist but I'm just limbering up for the next sprint of waist to tail bone. Once I reach waist length my hair will then be longer than it has ever been before!

Would love to reach tail bone by the end of the year but it may be more like hip. Anyway, hello all of you!

I am also quietly lurking, and enjoying all the photos of lovely longer than waist hair! Hello!! :waving: I have less than 1 inch until waist. I'll post again in a month or two with a triumphant length photo. Thanks for letting me crash the party!

Hi everyone! It says I replied to this thread at some point, but I couldn't find where. Now that I have my tippy-tips at hip I feel ready for this thread. I am super excited about getting my shorter layers to hip, and getting the ends to TBL. Can't wait to reach it so I can fricken whack off some of my bleach fried ends. Currently babying my hair though. I have my hair in two plastic bagged pig tails, deep treatment in (shea moisture, olive oil, egg white, peanut butter, honey, fish oil from capsules). Fiancé says I look like trashy Lea :) Anyway just wanted to say that everyone's hair here looks super gorgeous, and I hope my hair looks as nice some day.

Hello, waist to tailbone crew! It's been awhile! (I had no internet for over a month)

I just read through the last ten pages, and I just wanted to blanket welcome and congratulate all newcomers and graduates! There have been some seriously thudworthy heads of hair posted since I've been away!

Some of you may have seen my 1 year anniversary thread, but I wanted to post my progress shot here, too.
I'm about 2-3" from BCL right now, and I think I saw that a couple of you guys are right here with me, it's exciting to grow together! :)

Without further ado, my January length shot: (combed straight, hand at BCL, back slightly arched which is probably giving me an extra inch in length)
http://i1004.photobucket.com/albums/af164/veryhairyfairy/length1-12-142282x500_zpsa6f12d57.jpg (http://s1004.photobucket.com/user/veryhairyfairy/media/length1-12-142282x500_zpsa6f12d57.jpg.html)

I won't be taking another picture until April or May, but I'm going to be having an inch trimmed every 3-4 months now, so growth is going to be visually halted for some time. (I took an especially unflattering picture of my hair this week, and I'm going to start trimming more aggressively and growing more slowly until the thinning at the ends is better)

I'm so happy to be able to see all of your progress and pictures again!

I'm dithering about whether I belong in this thread or not. My hair, when blow dried, reaches past my waist, but with thin, sad ends. When left natural, it hits the top of my waist.

My goal (currently) is tailbone length, unstretched, which on me is longer than BCL. I'm going to spend 2014 without trimming and see what happens. If my ends still look like crap by the end of it, I may just trim them back to thicken the ends and stay here.

sigh.

Decisions, decisions!

I've been 'almost at tailbone' for a while now because I keep trimming :D One of these days … but I'll probably just continue trimming because at this length, my hair decided that split ends are a good idea :D

Maybe try some microtrimming for a while to thicken up? The rest of the hair needs to join the party at your new length. ;)

I have this same issue, because the rest of my hair that is trying to catch up is the hair that fell out a few years ago when I got very anemic.

I don't think I can be bothered to micro trim (and I'd need to invest in some good shears to do it) so I'll just trim back a few inches once I get to TBL probably.

veryhairyfairy
January 25th, 2014, 01:56 PM
I also notice thinning past waist, but I have damage from BSL down that I need to grow out, so I'm not the best example.
Some hairs grow slower or are more fragile and break at shorter lengths, so it might just take time for things to travel down. I second microtrimming, trimming more frequently, or even maintaining for awhile to thicken ends...
But, I actually think natural taper is really beautiful and almost mimics layers in the way the hair moves and hangs, and I can't wait to grow out this damage and let my hair develop fairytale ends. :)

It must be contagious...

I knew I wanted to get to classic or longer, but didn't know, and still don't know if I will like it that long. I am guessing I will love it, so I'll probably keep growing it. Maybe I will stop at knee, or maybe go a few more inches to make it an even 60", or maybe I'll make it to my ankles... I am loving my hair more and more the longer it gets.

I originally just wanted Hip (in my mind that was called waist, way back when), and then before I hit actual waist length I was already eyeing TBL... now I'm trying to gather the will to maintain when I hit TBL so I don't sprint all the way to knees!!!

I remember seeing your thread about the chop and I'm glad you're at peace with it. I think most of us have experienced a similar length 'setback', and it's definitely frustrating... but now you get to grow out super fresh, thick, healthy ends, and that's pretty nice! :)

There's just so much damage and damage related thinning from BSL down... I know that it's only going to get worse if I just keep growing, but I really don't like the idea of maintaining or even slowly growing! I told myself I'd maintain at TBL, and I'm really going to try! I'd love advice on how to stay strong, especially because it's going to take at least a year and a half...
If any of you have ever maintained, how did you stay strong?

Welcome back! How long did it take to go from waist to TBL before you cut back to waist?

Thank you! Hmm, I'm not sure, I would say a year, maybe a year and a half? Maybe longer? Keep in mind that I had some larger than normal trims because of winter weather damaging my ends and I just didn't know how to deal with it. I also had an initial goal of hip and then it kinda grew to tailbone without me realizing it. So I've been maintaining at tailbone for a few years now without much conscious effort of keeping it at this marker, if that makes any sense at all.

Thank you! My ends feel great now, but, it was a big cut for me and I haven't been at waist for about four years now. My hair is still straightened from the blowout at the salon so it may be even shorter once I wash it and wear it wavy. I still find comfort in the fact that it is actually still long and probably no one will mourn the lost length except for me.
